But just as things were settling down, fate had other plans for her. One night, she crossed paths with her second chance mate, someone she hadn't known existed. His name was Devin, and from the start, he distrusted her. Devin's life had been marked by tragedy-his family was killed by his mother's relatives, which led him down a dark path in the world of crime and the black market. Because of his past, Devin harbored a deep hatred for werewolves, and when he met Angela, he assumed she was dangerous and untrustworthy. Despite their anger and pain, Angela and Devin realized they had something in common: a shared history of loss and betrayal. Slowly and reluctantly, they began working together, each driven by different goals. Angela longed for healing and a chance to be loved and protected. Devin wanted revenge and justice for his family's death. Together, they became a powerful team, capable of changing the course of the ongoing war between werewolves, vampires, and other supernatural beings. As Angela and Devin navigated the dangerous underworld, they discovered hidden secrets, new alliances, and deadly enemies. But with every step, they found themselves closer to the truth, and to each other. And with the forces of vengeance and war growing around them, they had to decide if they could trust one another-or if they were destined to fall apart once more.

Chapter 1 But to perish

Angela's Point Of View

It only takes but a single second to shatter someone's entire world. One moment, I was so happy, living myself to the fullest, my heart light and my smile always on my face. Then, in the blink of an eye, all that happiness slipped through my fingers, leaving me alone in a darkness so heavy I could hardly breathe. Sadness wrapped itself around me, filling every part of me with endless tears and silent cries I couldn't hold back.

I stood there, staring at the house, my heart breaking as tears streamed down my face. That place had been my world, and in just moments, everything inside me had changed.

"Mom, where did you put the board? I can't find it," I called out as I searched the storage room, hoping for an answer. But the silence stretched on, and an uneasy feeling crept over me.

"Mom!" I called louder, straining to hear any response, but there was only silence. I turned my head, trying to pick up any sound, any clue. Something didn't feel right.

Then, like a whisper across my mind, I heard her voice. "Don't come out of the storage," she warned the words echoing in my head.

"What? Why?" I asked, confused and worried.

"Stay put. I'll be there soon," she said, her voice tight. My chest tightened too as confusion swirled into fear. I took a deep breath, catching a faint scent that made my heart race. The blocking powder we used on hunts to hide our scent was already in the air.

Then, the storage door creaked open, and there she was, my mom, standing there with eyes wide, her breath coming fast and uneven. She looked as if she'd seen something terrible, something haunting.

"What's happening, Mom?" I tried to ask, my voice barely steady, but before I could finish, she raised a finger to her lips, silencing me.

"Not now," she whispered.

"Baby girl, you have to do me a favor, okay? You have to stay here, quiet. Quiet! Without saying any word out, okay?" She said in a rush, constantly looking out the door.

"What's going on? At least just let me in on what's happening, the atmosphere is tense and why is the powder used in the house? Do we have uninvited guests?" I asked non stop.

"My love, this isn't the right time to be inquisitive. Keep your curiosity to yourself or you will end where you don't wish to be," she said to me.

"What's wrong with wanting to know what's wrong?" I asked her, trying to hide my anger.

"I'm sorry but I can't let you know anything," she said in a rush. She looked back again and turned to look at me with urgency.

"Use this on yourself to hide your scent, I have to go back before they start looking for me. I don't want them to discover you," she said looking outside as she pushed the little tube into my hands and rushed out, securing the door.

Who are they? I walked quietly towards the door but before getting to the door, it opened suddenly. I gasped but sighed immediately I noticed my mom.

"I told you to stay put, didn't I?" She said angrily.

"I was just worried about you, I don't..." I tried explaining to her but she suddenly grabbed the tube in my hand and poured the contents of the tube on me.

"Don't worry about me, worry about yourself," she said lightly, caressing my face calmly. She pushed me lightly into the corner.

"Sit here and be calm, wait for me or make yourself safe," she said to me before kissing me on the head and hugging me tightly.

"Be safe and alive," she said before walking out of the room the second time, shutting the door close behind her back.

I sat in silence while sniffing the air and trying to tune in on my parents. There were different scents in the air mixed with the powder and blood and tears and sweat. Were there dad and mom or the maids or our guards? They were struggling with their conversation with whosoever was terrifying them.

I crawled out of my corner and moved to the door, slightly pushed the door a little bit. Instant regret filled me, my mom was mercilessly being held at the neck by a hefty thug, her legs dangling in the air.

I could count five people, the one holding my Mother by the neck, three others standing around someone who I couldn't see well. Where is dad? I gasped when I recognized him, he was kneeling at the feet of a man who was seated on his favorite seat.

I caught a scent coming towards me and looking forward, I saw a huge reddish brown wolf walking towards my direction, it had blood smudged around its mouth.

I quickly shut the door quietly and crawled back to my space using a costume bear outfit to cover myself and waited for a while till the coast was clear before crawling out again.

They were still talking indistinctly among themselves, with Mother and Dad pleading. Then suddenly the man seated held Dad by the neck, extracting his nails into his neck.

I gasped and quickly held my mouth, sobbing into my palm. Mother briefly looked at my direction, our eyes caught each other, stayed for a while before turning away quietly.

"...love you so much, sorry... sorry I failed you... but you mustn't fail yourself," I caught his message faintly before he slumped to the ground, dead and wide open. He was staring at me dead in the eyes.

"Please..." I heard Mother 's voice.

"...I got blood on myself..." the voice breeze by my ear. That voice!

Thud! Without realizing it, Mother 's body also slumped to the ground, there was blood all over her face. I shivered in fear as I watched my Mother struggle with death.

"We are sorry, baby! We are, and we love you. I love you, I am sorry our time together is cut short. You have to live, you must survive and escape this, you are the only one left. But please try and get this image out of your head, I am sorry..." she pleaded as I screamed internally.

I placed my hand on the doorknob and was about to run to my lifeless parents who were sleeping in a massive pool of their blood when the man stood up suddenly and looked me in the eyes. Oh shit!

I remembered Mother's words, 'Be safe and alive, you have to live, you must survive and escape this, you are the only one left, we love you.' I must survive!

"Go get her!" I heard him say it loud and clear.

Chapter 2 Survive!

Devin's Point Of View

Distance noise kept making me uncomfortable in my bed as I kept tossing around. Why can't I have a peaceful sleep for once? I tried blocking out the noise from me so I could sleep but I hadn't perfected my senses, so I wasn't getting the technique.

I will disturb Mom once I am fully awake to teach me how to block sounds and noise from myself so I can have what I want.

I will try to be more attentive when learning because I can see that I need it. But now, the noise was becoming unusual and I was forced to get up from my sleeping conscious state.

"You can't go out," James said to me.

"Why?" I questioned him.

"It's dangerous! Your mom's kind are here!" He explained.

"Werewolves?" I asked, super excited. This was my moment to see other werewolves, and still, mom refused to take me to her colony, I could see them here.

"Yes!" He replied simply.

"Then I need to go," I said to James.

"You can't go, like I said it's dangerous. Your mum's kinds are here and your kids aren't appreciated among them," he explained to me but I was confused by what he said.

"Do you mean my kind?" I asked him.

"Well, you are a two-in-one creature unlike them and they are bittered about it," he explained but I didn't believe him.

"Well, that's arrant nonsense! Do you think I will believe that?" I asked him, looking up at him. "Well, I don't. So find something else to use as an excuse," I said to him.

"My prince, you have to believe me, outside your room is dangerous and I have been instructed by my Lord and my Lady not to let you out of your room," he said, trying to convince me to stay in my room.

"Wow, they said that?" I asked him.

"Yes, they did. They... they... ouch!" He cried out, staring at me deadly.

"Then let me out," I yelled glaring at him.

"No! Even that and more won't let me release you," he said confidently.

"Really?" So my mystic power of ceasing one's vocal cord isn't going to stop him then let's see about that.

"I don't need to answer that. Go... ouch! Ahhh... haaa... you... can't... can't... please..." he struggled as he cried out but it wasn't working the way I wanted it to make him feel.

"This is nonsense," I yelled, hitting the wall with my weak leg as I released him.

"Thanks for listening to me," he said after wiping off the little sweat that broke out.

"I wasn't listening to you and I have no intention of listening to you," I said as I paced around, thinking of what to do to get out of this bedroom prison.

"Don't do that please, just sit on your bed and read your spell books," James said but my mind was far gone. The noise from outside was still on but it has become some kind of game, where it reduces for a while and then intensifies the next minute in a repeated pattern.

"What if the danger comes to meet us here? We are dead then, but isn't it better to meet this danger halfway or better still before it starts its journey towards us?" I said to James.

"Other guards are guiding this floor so if anything is to happen we will know," he said.

"And escape through where?" I asked.

"Oh please, don't start! We will cross the bridge when we get there," he answered.

"At the expense of your own life?" I asked him but he kept quiet.

"You will cross the bridge at your death? Well, that's on you and not on me! I will cross my own bridge now and avoid my death," I said to him and before he could guess anything or utter a statement, I jumped out of my window.

It was a nice flight, I landed on my feet and quickly ducked behind some plants. I looked up to my window and saw James yelling at me but I couldn't make out what he was saying because of our distance. I waved him goodbye and proceeded to the front of the building.

Some guards were lying lifelessly on the ground in their pool of blood. I saw some guards, parading the compound and front yard of the building who I couldn't identify as ours because their royal crests were different from ours but they were dressed alike.

James wasn't lying when he said there was danger looming around. I surveyed my environment and sneakily made my way to the entrance, I entered the building and quickly ducked behind a table. There were several more of those guards I saw outside parading the hallway.

Where is everyone? I questioned myself, none of our staff or guards were in sight, or were they all killed like the lifeless guards outside?

I could distinctly hear some things, some voices coming from one of the rooms in the hallway. Mother and dad's voice was distinct from all the other noise coming from the other rooms. Were they hitting something or breaking something?

"If this isn't about the prophecy then what is it about?" I could hear Dad say.

"Like I said, it isn't about the prophecy but that doesn't mean the prophecy isn't contributed, it is," a man's voice said.

"Please, we have nothing to do with your colony and there hasn't been a problem for years," that was mom, she sounded so scared and angry.

"You should have thought of that when you decided to marry into this colony," the man said to her harshly.

"But I am not the first and I won't be the last," she uttered.

"Well, I will decide on that," he said before laughing fully, like some maniac.

Mary, the youngest cook, ran suddenly out of one of the rooms into the hands of one of the unsmiling guards, immediately she got to their midst, one of them hit her on the head with a thick baton, like he was waiting for her to arrive and they accompanied her fall with laughter.

One of them kept smashing her head with the baton while the others kept laughing.

Another laughter caught my attention, it came from the room Mother and Dad's voices came from. I couldn't pick up what was being said but I knew something was about to hit them.

After a while, it was quiet in the whole building and two figures came out of the room smiling widely, a father and his son, who should be around nine or ten.

He was my age mate.

Chapter 3 One must first live

Angela's Point Of View

"Mother !" I kept yelling repeatedly.

"Hey!" Someone kept shaking me till I was fully conscious of my surroundings and who was holding me.

"Hey! It's me, you are safe! You are safe! He can't get you here, they can't," she said as she pulled me up from the bed and pulled me into a hug. Holding me tightly to her chest.

"It's fine, baby girl! You have me and I am here for you like always," she said consoling me. "You can cry all you want but I am here," she added. As I continued sobbing into her shoulder.

"He smirked harder than before," I said to her amidst my tears.

"Her face was fully black from the burnt," I added.

"He couldn't lift a finger after what was done to him," I continued ranting and sobbing.

"Why can't I get over it? It was more vivid like it happened two days ago," I said to her.

"It's okay, it is fine. This is the norm, you will only be shaken but you will be fine, like always, you know?" She said, patting me on the back.

"They don't look fine," I said to her, remembering the scene like it just happened.

"You know they are, they are fine. Resting in perfect peace and looking down proudly at you, at how far you have come. They are guarding you from their abode," she whispered into my ear.

"Are you sure?" I asked.

"Ok course, I am! I am very sure, don't mind what you saw but they are fine," she reassured me.

"You don't have to explain what you saw but it is fine and it is far off. You are safe," she said immediately as she released me from the hug and made me look at her.

"He was smirking harder than before and smiling like what he did was something to be proud of. He looked so happy while I felt my heart tearing and shattering at the loss I caused myself at the expense of my happiness. Am I happy now? No, I am not and will never be," I sobbed the more as the pictures came running through my mind.

"Come on, don't say that! Don't blame yourself, she told you not to," she said to me, cupping my tears-filled face in her hands.

"I will be guilty for life," I admitted.

"Please, get a hold of yourself, have you forgotten?" She asked me.

"I wish I could, but I can't. It won't let me forget," I informed her.

"He isn't worth all these tears so please stop crying and try to put this all behind you, you have to get a hold of yourself and please forget that shit. I know it's hard but you have to do it, for your good, please," she pleaded with me.

"Must you always cuss in all situations? Must you?" I asked her, I was beginning to calm down, I was shaken to my core.

"Yes, I have to. Where is the humor?" She asked with a shrug.

"But realistically speaking you need to shut him whenever he comes trying to disorient you." She added.

"I will try my best," I answered her.

"Now, try going back to bed. You need it, you are going to have a long day tomorrow from your gigs." She said as she coerced me into sleep.

*****

Devin's Point Of View

I tossed on the bed, back and forth, sweating profusely. After so much tossing, I sat up immediately panting heavily. I had been running, running fast and far to keep myself safe.

I flew out of bed into the bathroom, turned on the shower and I let the water wash down my fears, my anger, my sorrow, my suffering away. My head was banging terribly, it ached badly as a cold sensation ran through my hot body.

I was on fire and the water wasn't working its trick in calming me down like before instead, it was doing the opposite. I switched the shower off and walked back to my closet, grabbed a short and a long satin coat.

I went into the kitchen and took some nerve-calming pill to calm myself down but it felt stuck in my throat even though it wasn't.

"Are you okay, sir?" Miss Donna asked me.

"Yeah! I am," I answered her, she was startled by my hoarse voice.

I walked out of the kitchen still sweating and went into the living area to get a drink when Jordan and two others came running to me.

"Sir, we caught them. They are locked in," he informed me.

"Good," I said to him, dismissing him.

My inside turned into excitement for some miserable creatures in my trap. I went back inside my room and changed into something more appropriate then proceeded to the judgment quarter.

They were chained and placed into big bowls of extremely cold water but I wasn't satisfied as I imagined his face on them.

"Add more ice to the bowl," I ordered as the stupid werewolves mumbled in protest.

"For how long have they been in there?" I asked Jordan.

"An hour plus," he said.

"Why didn't you inform me on time?" I yelled at him.

"You were sleeping, we can't disturb you," he replied.

"Damn it!" I yelled, I turned to look at them as two of my guys were adding the ice and I noticed they were still in their clothes.

"Why are they still in their clothes?" I yelled as I threw a hammer in no direction. "Why?" Lunging at Jordan.

"Because there is a lady among them," he said fearfully.

I looked at the creatures then back to Jordan, "and so? Do you want to take her place?" I asked him hoarsely.

"No!" He cried out immediately.

"Then do a good job and strip them naked into that bath," I ordered.

There was a lot of mumbling and protesting or begging, I don't know. I don't care. My phone rang and I just had to pick up because of the caller.

"Are you okay?" He asked immediately as I picked up his call.

"What?" My voice was still hoarse.

"I ought to be there but I had an emergency, should I still come?" He asked.

"No!" I answered immediately.

"I know it's been two days and it's worse but it's fine," he said.

"I don't think so!"

"Then I need to come," he said again.

"Don't! I'm going out for a drink!"
