Chapter 1 One

The sound of a kiss was heard from the room at early dawn. The tall and handsome man kissed his sleeping wife good morning. He was obviously in a good mood that morning. He picked up a brown shirt on the floor and wore it. Looking again at the floor, he observed that his wife's lingerie was on the floor. He remembered the events of last night and realized she was still naked. He picked the lingerie and placed it beside her on the bed. How he loved to see his wife naked!

His hands reached slowly to grab her breasts under the blanket. She was fast asleep and she did not react to his touch. He kissed her forehead and proceeded to the bathroom. The tall man noticed his brown hair was looking untrimmed as he looked at the mirror. He washed his face quickly and rinsed his hands with water, walked back to the room to pick his wristwatch which was on top of the drawer, wore it and tiptoed to the door.

The maid had not resumed duty that morning, so everywhere was still pretty quiet. Carrying his muscular body gracefully he descended the stairs and walked into the kitchen soundlessly. The dark was gradually transforming into light as it was a bright morning.

He wore an apron and picked up a frying pan to make some omelettes. His special menu for his wife which she liked so much and could kill for. He smiled at the thought of that and he picked eggs from the fridge. He couldn't imagine that as the young billionaire he was, he would cook breakfast for his wife. But he loved her so dearly. And if this was one of the ways to show her how much he loved her, he would do it over and over again.

He whisked the eggs and poured it in the frying pan. Walking to the right end of the kitchen, he switched on the toast machine to make sandwiches. Looking at his wristwatch, he knew is wife might be up soon. He quickly made coffee and assembled everything on a clean wooden tray. The wooden tray had a sparkling white cloth laid on it before the plates of sandwiches, scotched eggs and coffee was placed on it. He looked at the arranged tray and beat his chest with a smile on his face.

"You're a f*cking good cook, man!" He muttered to himself as he was excited at the outcome of his hidden cooking skills.

The naked woman stretched her hand across the bed and discovered her husband wasn't there. She opened her eyes and scanned the room but she couldn't find him around. She turned to look for her red lingerie on the floor but she found it close to her on the bed. She quickly put it on and rushed to the bathroom.

'Her husband left for work without saying good morning', she thought to herself. That was really crazy! She felt like a baby whose mother did not bid goodbye nor give her candy before going to work. Her eyes felt heavy that morning but she didn't want to look awkward by wearing her glasses and lens. She realized she had really strained her eyes last night. She had helped her husband prepare a written proposal which was sent to a company in New York. Immediately they put the last full stop on the document, his hot lips landed on hers as she tried to shut down the system.

She smiled like a baby and found herself chuckling at her thoughts. She came out of the bathroom and found her husband on the bed with a wooden tray placed beside him. She stopped in her tracks as she stared at him surprised. He made her breakfast? That was so sweet of him! she questioned and exclaimed in her thoughts.

"Hi, Mrs. Pierce," He said as he waved his hands at her playfully.

"Oh baby! What would I have done without you?" She exclaimed as she put her hands over her mouth.

"Absolutely nothing, my love!" He said with a smile as he signaled at her to sit on the bed.

She walked up to him and placed a light kiss on his lips before sitting down by his side. He put the napkin around her neck and removed the cover on the food, brought out his phone and took pictures of the meal. She opened her mouth in awe as she was surprised at her husband's cooking skills and how he arranged every plate to create a simple but wonderful normalcy. She felt really happy as she stole glances at her husband while she ate slowly.

"Sweetheart, you need anything else?" He asked as he rose from the bed and stood beside her.

"Mr. Michael Pierce, I see how much you're trying to spoil your wife," The lady teased him.

"And Mrs. Amanda Pierce should maintain table manners so she doesn't choke. Let me get you water, baby," Michael said as he walked out of the room, closing the door gently.

She picked up her phone and opened her personal social media page and realized her husband uploaded a video of her and pictures of the breakfast he made for her. He tagged her and his 'Anything for the love of my life!" caption was boldly written beneath the post with other hashtags. She still couldn't believe she was Michael's wife.

Chapter 2 Two

The Pierces were really popular in California. They were known for their empire which was into real estate, construction of houses and factories, to name but a few of their subsidiaries. Amanda had been married to Michael for five months and she felt she couldn't do without him.

While she supervised her tea shop, she helped her husband supervise their co-owned furniture mart. Nonetheless, Amanda knew money wasn't the basis of their love. She was from a wealthy and influential family too. Andy Philips, the renowned owner of a furniture empire was her father and she was his only child.

Michael who had returned with a bottle of water and a glass of juice brought her back from her reverie. He smiled as he entered the room.

"Hey, baby!" He whispered into her ears as he dropped the water and juice on top of the bedside drawer.

"I love you, Michael. I really love you for everything you do. You always find a way to captivate my heart over and over again," Amanda said as she looked at him with excitement all over her face.

"See who is getting excited. Remember we took a vow on the altar and when I did that, I knew I had to commit myself to do everything to make sure I don't fail any of those promises. I'm happy we are doing those things ourselves," Michael replied.

"But I love you more, Amanda. I love you more than you can ever think. And I will be here, always. To stand by you and shower you love immeasurably!" He said with a loving smile.

Amanda tried to hold the tears from falling down as her eyes were filled with tears. Her husband was the best ever! He was like this when they dated for eight months but this was more than she expected. From random gifts, to dates, to visiting new places and going on vacation, she never got tired of his love. Everyone had said her marriage to Michael was too sudden and she should take her time. But then, she had gotten what she wanted in a man, why let him slip out of her hands because of some myth that two lovers must not rush into marriage?

She didn't care about all that anymore. She focused on her home and her relationship with her husband's family. Michael's mother loved her and they both shared opinions on various issues. Michael was the only son of the Pierces, he had a sister, Melissa, who was still in college.

Her best friend must have seen her husband's post on social media. She tried to imagine the look on his face on looking at the post. She still cannot place a valid reason as to why Daniel doesn't like her husband. From the days she met him to the day they got married, he never liked Michael.

She understood he was looking out for her so she doesn't get heartbroken, like the other guys she had met in the past before Michael did to me. She sighed as she remembered how vulnerable she was and how her ex-boyfriends used her and dumped her. Rather, how she dumped some because of their infidelity.

Why didn't Dan love this sweet man? A man of his words and a man of dignity. Her mind raced to the unfinished conversation she had with Daniel the night before her wedding. He had tried to talk to her about something, but every time he tried, there was somebody who interrupted. She knew it was about her husband, but she didn't care. She was married to him and she was his alone.

She had finished her breakfast and Michael removed the napkin from her neck. He cleaned the corners of her mouth and stretched to lick her lips. She enjoyed the fact that they shared breakfast together. He stood up to carry the tray back to the kitchen.

"Oh no, babe! Let Annie do this! You really don't have to," Amanda said as she held his hand to persuade him from carrying the tray and plates downstairs.

"Come on, sweetheart! I don't really have to call her in here, I would just drop it in the kitchen and return here," Michael replied.

"No, I insist, babe. It doesn't sit well with me. Just stay with me," Amanda said as she faked a sullen face.

"See who wants to be really pampered. Besides, Annie isn't here now. It's weekend, so we have all the time together!" Michael said.

Chapter 3 Three

Amanda sat in her office pensively, she kept on expecting the phone to ring, expecting the door to be pushed open and her husband would walk right in. It was evening already and her husband had not dropped by. He promised to pick her up after work. He had refused to let her drive to work until he got a driver for her. So, he dropped her at work and picked her afterwards in the evening.

All her workers were busy as they were trying to round up their work and balance their accounts for the day and prepare to close for the day. Amanda decided to stretch her legs and stroll round the showroom when she suddenly saw a familiar face walk past her furniture mart. She walked briskly to the door to see if it was really the person she expected it was, but it wasn't him. A heavy sigh left her as she waked slowly to stand in front of the mart. She thought she had seen Logan whom she dated before she met Michael. A small smile crossed her face as her mind raced to what had happened fourteen months ago.

*******

Fourteen months ago.

"I feel so bad you left him out there in the cold. He is shivering already. Don't you think you need to forgive him?" Daniel asked as he looked out of the window.

"You could go out there to meet him if you're that concerned and out to pity every Tom, Dick and Harry who messes with your best friend." Amanda said as she poured wine into a cup. She looked distraught in her blue flannel trousers and her white chiffon blouse.

"Come on, Mandy! I know he has done so many wrong things but tell the poor guy to go home. It's quite late and it's not advisable to leave him out there. People would keep on staring at him and soon those who know about him would want to hear him out too." Daniel said in a pleading voice as he peeped to stare at Logan who had wrapped himself with his brown jacket.

"I don't blame you, Dan. Ain't your fault. I blame myself for being so busy and blind to all that fool did. He was even blunt to tell me he forgot. Who does that?" Amanda snapped as she gulped the wine she had poured in the cup.

"I know how you feel. But just tell him to go home or you would call the cops on him. His eyes are fixed on our window and it's getting annoying. Or you want to give me the permission to brush him up so he could leave?" Daniel retorted as he walked to the table to pick the wine which Amanda had opened.

"I know you're happy about this. You never liked Logan from the start and with all he has done, all you suspected about him is now clear to me." Amanda replied as she bit her nails.

"He is still a human being, Amanda. And I did the normal thing a brother would have done." Daniel said pulling her into a hug. She buried her head in his shoulders and sighed heavily.

"Why didn't I suspect that the fool was out of love for me? He had an affair with a girl I could pay her net worth yet I forgave him. Now, he can't even remember things I tell him. No, That's crazy! I'm done being nice!" Amanda yelled as she released herself from Daniel's arms.

"More reason why you should go out there and say it to his face that it's over." Daniel replied calmly.

"I sent him a message. Guess that's why he is here." she said as she lowered her head.

Amanda scratched her hair and tampered with the wavy curls of her long hair as she walked to the window to look at Logan. She looked out of the window and suddenly her eyes were filled up with tears. She just called it off with Logan whom she dated for a year. It was the best twelve months of her life and Logan was all lovey dovey around her. It was the first time she had someone do almost everything for her. She thought it was because he was unemployed and quite unable to pay his bills. So she made sure she wired money into his account at the end of the month.

She was close to Logan's sister and acquainted herself with his mother. She also wired money to them frequently and paid for their health insurance bills. She was happy with Logan and never regretted accepting to date him because he gave her the life she had always wanted. The love life she had longed and sought for. He was her type of man. Logan was two years older than her unlike all her ex boyfriends who were all younger and she had considered herself lucky when she started dating Logan.

He was muscular and had spent time developing his muscles at the gym. He always had his hair trimmed and wore shorts everytime revealing his heavy built thighs. She never minded the fact that he was always calm and never troubled her despite her serious attitude towards work.

As she stared at the figure peering at the window downstairs, she could only remember the bad things he did to her and how he ruined the time they spent together. Her thoughts were muddled as tears flowed down her face. The first time they met had seemed like yesterday but she had slowly erased the sweet memory from her mind as she looked at him with hatred. She hated him because he lied to her. She hated him because she felt he dated her for his selfish reasons. She turned to look at Daniel who was on the phone instructing the security guys to ask Logan to leave the premises. She was supposed to stop him from sending such instructions to deal with her lover harshly but she stood there motionlessly looking at him. Her mind went back to the last straw that broke the camel's back in their relationship.
