Chapter one Author's Pov

" Tina!! " A voice yelled out loud.

I grabbed my pillow groaning, while using it to block the noice. Who the fuck was that? I wouldn't help but ask inwardly, not bothering to open my eyes, as I was still sleepy.

" Mom! Tina cursed me, she's refusing to wake up. " The voice said again, making my eyes shot up, as I immediately sat up.

I opened my eyes briefly, before shutting them again trying to get it adjusted to the light in the room.

I stares at my cousin sister who leaned again my door with a smug expression on her face.

Darn! I thought. Now am really in for it.

Not long after my thought, my aunt barge into my room, holding a wooden spoon in her hands, she match towards me, making me gather my sheet in my hands, as I flee for my life.

" Am sorry aunt, I slept late, am sorry. " I immediately said, whike trying to dodge the wooden spoon in her hands. But not long after she caught, smashing the spoon against my back, while I scream in horror.

I heard the sound of chuckle coming from the door, making me look towards it, seeing my two cousins laughing their asses out by the door of my room.

" You ungrateful brat, if you really have all the time in world and nothing to do, then you might as well make yourself useful and go do some work. " My aunt screamed at me.

" Am sorry " I said softly, so as not to get hit again.

It was like a usual routine for me in this house. Since I had started living with my aunt after my mom got married and chased me out, as her new husband wasn't willing to take care of me, not a single day had passed by without my aunty yelling or beating me.

" Go downstairs and get the mail for, you rotten York. " She yelled before turning her back to make her way out of my room.

" Yes ma, let me quickly brush my..... " I stop halfway through my sentence, as she turned back at me giving me a death glare.

I immediately shifted back scared of getting beaten again.

" I will go right way. " I said quickly getting to my feet and running out the door.

I stood in front of the door to the house, looking at my appearance from the mirror outside the door.

" Wow! " I exclaimed at my own appearance, I was looking like a rebellious homeless child.

" Ohh God please don't let Rico see me like this. " I prayed while joining my hands together, looking both ways before making my way to the mail box at the side of the road to pick up the mail and package that's as there.

I was about to make it back, when Rita screamed Rico's name from the window upstairs, waving at him, making me freeze in my steps.

" Hey Tina. " He called out.

I stood there motionless for some seconds, before recovering myself and making my way back into the house not willing to turn back to greet him.

I swore under my breath once I was inside the house. I knew Rita had down that to tease me, after all she knew what happened between me and Rico.

Ever since I had found out about Rico and my cousin brother Alex placing a bet on me just for fun, I have ever since been avoiding Rico.

Yes even though I still have a crush on him, my crush wasn't enough to ever make me see him the same.

One of the things I hated the most, is toying with a living thing, as if it was some kind of object. I really hated people who think they had the right to place a bet on an human like they were some kind of object.

This was why my mother, never really liked me, as I was a result of the bet my father had placed on her. She was willing to abandoned me if not for my grandfather, who was still the only one who liked me in this family.

He was the one asked my aunt to take me in, after my mother had explained that I had to go, in other for her to start are new life over again with her husband.

A year slipped down my cheeks making me come back to reality, as I quickly use the back of my palm to wipe the tears away.

The last thing I needed right now was for my cousins to see me crying and mock me.

I quickly took the mail to my aunt who was in her room, knocking the door slightly before opening after getting a response to enter.

Dropping the mail on the table, I immediately turn my back to leave, but stop at my track as something had caught my attention, from the mail dropped on the table. I turned back quickly picking up the mail that had caught my attention.

That was it, it really was, I thought.

It was my admission letter from Regina highschool, I squeal, getting the attention of my aunt.

" What's it. " She yelled at, but not minding I looked up at her with joy before responding.

" It's my admission letter aunty, take a look see. " I shouted matching towards her with joyful steps.

My aunty eyes widen as she looks at me.

" So! " She yelled, making me stop on my track as I looked at her.

" Do you think I have the money to send you that school. " She continued.

Wasn't she the one who asked me to apply for this school, after my grandfather had persuaded her, into getting me into a school.

" But aunt you said I should write the exam. " I said, frustration evident in my voice, as I couldn't believe the dream of me going back to school was about to crash.

Tears were slowly forming in my eyes, as the thought of all my sleepless night and hard work flash between my eyes.

Have been kept in this house since I came here, because I couldn't get a transfer letter from my fromer school, so I wasn't able to transfer into a new one, making me wait until my aunt was able to give me money to take a new entrance exam.

" And so, I already discussed with your grandfather. I told him I have a lot of responsibility and can't add yours to mine. " She yelled.

" Look don't give me headache, get out of my room, leave quickly. " She said shoving me out, with tears rolling down my eyes.

I stood in front of her door, with my back against the door, staring at the admission letter in my hand.

" What's making this crybaby cry this time around? " My cousin Alex taunted me.

" Oh brother you don't know, news flash she saw Rico downstairs. " Rita joined him.

I look up at the two of them between shoving out out of my way, running into my room.

" What the hell, I heard Rita scream as I locked my room door and threw myself into my bed, crying myself to sleep.

I woke up to a banging noise. Sitting up on my bed I look around my room, wondering what was making the noise, i look towards the door when a bang came again from it.

Getting up I opened the door, but a palm came against my cheeks, immediately I opened it.

I touched my cheeks opening my eyes, to look at my furious aunt standing by door.

" How dare you ahh? " She yelled asking.

" I took you under my wings, give you shelter, clothing and food, and what do you repay me with, locking yourself inside your room, crying like a little child, while my children work for you, is that it? " she asked looking at me.

My eyes immediately widen as I looked around me noticing it was probably noon already, I must have over slept due to stress and the tears I shade.

" Am sorry aunty it won't happen again, I just lost control over my emotions. " I said, immediately pleading with her to calm her down.

" Sorry you said, well I hope you are willing to eat that sorry for the entire day. " She said before turning her back to leave, making me swear under my breath, well I guess be food today.

" Oh and i hope because of the little act you put on, you don't think am still going to put you in thay school? " She questioned looking at me with her eyebrows raised up.

" What school. " A old voice called, making my lips lift up in a smile on their own.

" Grandpa!! " I yelled, rushing towards him to hug him.

" How are you doing my little strawberry. " He asked kissing my forehead.

" Am fine grandpa, I missed you. " I said kissing his cheeks, and nuzzling my face into his chest.

" There, there. " He chuckled.

" Where's Rita and Alex? " He asked my aunty.

" They went out for extra lessons father. " My aunt answered.

" Good now, back to my main topic, what school are you talking about? " My grandfather asked again, making me look down immediately, so as not to get in trouble with my aunt.

" Answer me Lynn " my grandpa yelled, glaring at my aunt.

Chapter Two

Author's Pov

I threw myself against my bed, signing, the smile on my lips refusing to leave anytime soon. I was resume school back tomorrow and was I was really excited.

After the chat with my grandpa and aunt, my grandfather decided to sponsor me through my school, after my aunt kept insisting she doesn't have the money.

I knew she just doesn't like the idea of me being in the same school as her child, that was all, as she had offered to take me to a less expensive and local highschool in the community.

It makes me really wonder what she was excepting when she had asked me to take the entrance exam. Probably she thought I won't pass, as I had been away from school for quite sometimes now.

Pushing away those thoughts, I later in my bed with my chest,looking through the window at the stars in the sky.

I couldn't help me wonder what my father would have looked like if he was still alive. My mother had told me that, even though he had refused to get involved in our lives again, he had still kept sending her an amount of money to take care of me.

But she had suddenly stop hearing from him after some while, and after she had ask about she came to find out he was down with some disease and not long after he was announced dead on the news.

I was Eight at the time of his death, I vividly remember, my mother shouting about how useless I was to her right now, she had called me a burden to her, pushing me out of the house for hours.

I sobbed and cried for her to let me in, but in her drunk state she heard nothing, not even the thousand of plead and tears I had shaded.

My mother loves me deep down, I know, it was just circumstances getting in the way of the live she has for me. That's why am trying my best to make it in life, so we both can leave our life together away from all the circumstances around us, just me, her and Grandpa.

I fell asleep looking at the stars, wondering which one of them was my dad and praying that he guides me through my school life.

I woke up quite early due the excitement, flowing through my spine, quickly doing the house chores before taking my bath. I was eager to start school.

I heard a knock on my door after I had, finish putting on the dress grandpa had gotten for me for school, along with some other few clothes and school stuff I might need.

I quickly opened the door, not willing to offend or get beaten this morning.

" Grandpa is waiting for you downstairs, be quick. " Alex said glaring at me, before turning his back and leaving immediately.

I quickly picked my brand new bag and made my way downstairs.

" Grandpa! " I yelled hugging.

" Well look whose excited for school. " He chuckled, pinching my cheeks.

" Grandpa, I can't believe you are really going to put her in the same school as us. She going to disgrace me grandpa. " Rita whined at grandpa.

" Rita! " Grandpa scolded her.

" Why would you say something like that to your sister. "

" She not my blood sister, so who cares. " Rita completed, before taking her dior bag and making her way out of the house.

" Don't mind her baby girl. " Grandpa said to me, making me nod my head smiling.

Surely I wasn't going to let anybody spoil this day for me, not even my cousins or the devil, I thought with a smile on my lips.

" Fast let's go grandpa. " I said dragging him out of the house.

We made our way into my aunt car, as I joined Rita and Alex at the back, while grandpa sat in the front with my aunt.

Immediately we arrived the schools Rita and Alex left after saying goodbye to their mom and Grandpa, while I waited outside the car as grandpa and aunt converse.

" Okay let's go baby girl " grandpa called out, getting down the car.

" Sure " I said, as I locked my hand with his.

We made our way into the school, after all the arrangements were made I waited out the principal's office to be assigned were to go.

My aunt go out of the principal's office looking at me dejectedly.

" I don't know why grandpa is wasting his life saving and hard earn money of you, but if you mess up in this school, I swear to God that am going to skin you alive. " My aunt threatened, but the only thing that had entered my head was the fact my grandpa was using his life saving on me.

" Life savings? " I asked, looking at my aunt for an explanation on what she meant.

" Yes, surely you don't think grandpa, as money fo you. He is retired for God sake and his suppose to be spending his pension on his self not on some unwanted thing. " She snared at me before making her way out of the school, with her kneels clicking against the expensive Carmel wooden floor.

I sat there with my heart swelling with thanks, and tears in my eyeballs.

" Princess are you ready? " My grandfather asked coming out with the principal.

" What's wrong? " He asked once he saw the expression on my face.

I immediately stood up, rushing to hug him.

" Well I will give you both a moment. " The principal, said smiling while excusing himself back to his office.

" What's wrong princess? " My grandfather asked again, but no words came out of my mouth, as I was sobbing.

" Did your aunt say something hurtful to you again? " He asked, I shake my head in response, trying to calm myself down.

" Grandpa is it true, that you are using your retirement money on me? " I asked after calming down a bit

" Ohh dear is that why you are crying, common wipe your tears, or the others are going to make fun of you in class. " He said wiping my tears.

" Beside child my retirement money is to take care of myself and family, or are you not my family again? " He asked.

" I am. " I said chocking on my sob a little.

" Exactly so you see am using it for good, moreover am sure you are going to make me proud in the future or ain't you? " He asks again.

" I am, I promise grandpa that I will. " I said placing both of my palm on his cheeks.

" Yes that's my girl, so wipe to tears okay. " He said smiling.

I nodded my head wiping away the tears from my cheeks, while my grandfather stood up and knocked on the principal office again.

The man came back out smiling.

" Hello dear my name is Marcus, am a good friend to this old man, so if you need anything, feel free to come ask me okay? " The principal said smiling.

I nodded my head before responding with a yes sir.

After biding farewell to my grandfather, I made my way to my class, where Mr Marcus introduced me before the class, before asking me to find a seat.

I stared at the teacher, but my mind was far away, thinking of how to stay focus in school, I had someone who was sacrificing his everything for me, and I wanted to make him proud.

Right there I made a vows to stay clear off anything that could distract me from school and focus only my books, not knowing that the one devil who was going to turn my life up side down was waiting for me in that same school.

After the bell rang I took my books, placing them inside my bag and making my way to my locker. Placing my books inside I closed it and went to the lunch hall.

I stood in the middle wondering were to seat, I don't really want much attraction or friends, as they were just distraction.

Amidst making my mind I felt someone tap me from behind. Turning to look at the person, my eyes went wide as they came in contact with Rico's own.

" Damn " I swore under my breath, how could I forget he was going to the same school with Rita and Alex.

Deciding that ignoring him was going to be the best, I smiled at him slightly before turning my back to make my way to a table.

" Tina wait. " He said grabbing my arm.

I looked at his hand on my arm, before looking right back at him raising my eyebrows.

He stood there looking at me not saying a word, making me irritated, and just as I was about to ask him to leave, a voice spoke up behind him.

" If you guys are done, get out of the way. " The voice said, starling Rico a bit as he immediately move for the other guy to passed.

I looked at him as he eyes me before passing, making me gasp at how hot he was looking.

" Wow you really are just like other girls right? " Rico said glaring at me, bring my attention back to his.

" Excuse me " I said glaring back at him, before snatching my arm away from his and making my way to a table.

Chapter Three

Author's Pov

I entered the hall searching for comfortable spot were I could relax and read my novel without any interruption.

My gaze swept around the hall slightly,before stop at a desk placed beside a tree, deciding that it was the perfect spot I made my way towards the desk, putting my head down to avoid any unwanted attention.

" Touch out. " Someone shouted making me raise my head up, to see a cute guys riding a skateboard heading my way. I dodged as quick as I could, making my books drop to the floor.

I bend down picking them one after the other, while swearing under my breath.

" Am so sorry. Are you okay ? " The guy asked while quickly bending down to help me get the remaining of my books.

" Yeah, yeah am fine, but you really need to watch were you are driving that thing. " I said in a polite tone, trying not to get myself any enemy around here.

" Yeah, sorry about that. " He replied chuckling nervously, while using his free hand to ruffle his hair a bit.

" My name his Ethan by the way. " He said stretching his hands towards me.

" Tina " I replied taking his hands, then turning immediately and leaving.

I really don't want any friends for now. I want first adapt to the system before associating myself with anybody.

I sat on the desk spreading my book, ready to read when I felt a presence by my side, turning I saw the guy from the other time.

" Pick somewhere else to sit. " He said rudely, then placing his headphone on his ear. I growled inwardly but gathered my books and made my way out of there.

" Ahhh, the audacity of rich kids. " I said under my breath.

I heard a chuckling sound coming from beside, making me turn to see the guy from before, the one with the skateboard.

I raised my eyebrows at him, wondering what was so funny.

" Looks like you had a rough encounter with Ryan. " He said, licking the ice cream in his hand.

" Who is this Ryan " I asked curious as to why he was acting all high and mighty. There's always a reason right.

" The popular rich guy. " Ethan answered before handing me a snack bag. I looked at he snack in his hand, before looking at him.

" No thanks. " I answered, turning around to leave.

" Hey you don't have to be mean you know, I get it you don't want to be my friend. Sorry I was just knew here and was looking for someone to talk to. " He said pouting before turning around to leave, making me feel guilty.

" Wait! " I called out.

" Am sorry, it's just that am trying to be careful and know my environment first. " I said looking at him with a pleading gaze.

" Ahhh, but at least it won't hurt knowing someone right. " He answered smiling.

" Yeah I guess. " I answered back.

" Okay let's start the introduction from being then. Am Ethan, same class as you, I resumed two days before you, and no I don't have any friends. What about you? " He said all that once, making me chuckle.

" Well am Tina, I also don't have friends as you know, am trying to read so I can pass with great grades, I have two cousins in this school, and... I think that's all. " I answered smiling.

" You have two cousins but no friends? " He asked.

" Yeah it's kinda complicated. " I answered smiling at him.

" Okay okay, so where you planning to read, now that Mr am popular sent you packing. " He asked

" I don't know really, maybe I should just use this recess to enjoy the view instead. " I replied smiling. Actually it's nice having someone to talk, I thought inwardly.

" Or we could go the library, it's quiet and nice, also good for sleeping. " He said, making me chuckle.

" Are you going there, because you want to sleep? " I asked.

" Well you caught me. Common let's go. " He said leading the way. "

He came out of the hall way to see her walking away with the guy from the other time. He stood and watch until she was out of sight.

" Caleb didn't you say you know that guy? " He asked his friend looking at him.

" Yeah why? " Caleb asked, raising his head up from his mobile phone, giving his friend his full attention.

" Find a lash for him already, he is getting annoying. " Ryan answered rolling his eyes.

" Why, what did he do? " Caleb asked, but got no response as Ryan only turned his back at him walking away.

" Let's sit in the back please " Ethan said pouting a bit so Tina would accept.

" You are adorable. " Tina said chuckling, making Ethan chuckle to.

" Yeah I know, that's my most useful superpower. " He said smugly, before picking a desk to sit.

" Are you just going to sleep. " Tina asked her new found friend, who rested his head on the desk immediately they got to the desk.

" Hmmm, am tired and beside books bore me, so am just going to sleep for a moment. " He answered closing his eyes.

Tina shook her head before opening back her book, picking up from where she left.

After school hours was over Tina and Ethan made their way to the packing lot to wait for their drivers.

" Hey looks like my ride is here. " Ethan said looking at Tina smiling.

" It was nice getting to know Tina, now I have a new friend. " Ethan said before rushing off, waving at her.

Tina chuckled at her new friend bubbly behavior shaking her head before making her way towards the spot, her and her cousin waits for her aunt.

" Hey man your cousin his here. " One of Alex friend called out, making everybody's attention turn to her.

She quickly out her head down and slowly made her way towards them, standing a good meters away from them.

" Doesn't she talk, she looks like a fool. " One of Rita's friend said.

" Probably because her mother abandoned her. " Another replied laughing, making Tina look up immediately, she couldn't believe her cousin sister would tell the world about her issues.

" What do you want to beat me? " Rita asked raising her eyebrows at her.

She quickly averted her gaze back down, not wanting to cause any trouble for herself.

" Hey! " A deep voice called out.

Deciding not to raise her head up, thinking whoever it might be wasn't referring to her, she kept her gaze to the floor.

" Am talking to you floor face. " Ryan said, trying to get her attention to him.

Tina immediately raised her head up to look at him, before looking around her, noticing that everyone attention was now on her.

" Me? " She asked.

" Is there any other person who finds the floor as interesting as you here? " He replied rolling his eyes.

" What do you want? " She asked, asking her possible best not to roll her eyes at his rude self.

" Here you left this on the desk. " He said, handing her biology note book.

Tina immediately collected it, thanking him before shoving it into her bag.

" Hey Ryan, am so sorry that my cousin sister disturbed you with her nonsense. " Rita said, while adjusting her clothes a little, making Tina give her a disgusted look, not believing she ready to expose her cleavage just to please some rude guy.

Tina averted her eyes, so as not to cause her any trouble, but she meet Ryan's own, which was already trained on hers.

She cough slightly, feeling uncomfortable from his stare, snapping out him of whatever la la land he was in.

Ryan turned and look at Rita, shoving her away from his arms, before giving her a disgusted look and leaving.

Rita looked at him in disbelief, before stomping her feet, then turning to look at Tina.

" Bitch what did you do? " She yelled at Tina.

" Nothing I was just sitting a desk in hall, and he told me to leave, but i forgot my book, that's all serious. " She said quickly, as she could clearly see that her cousin was interested in that guy.

" You better take your eyes off him, he's mine. " Rita yelled.

" Since when? " One of Rita's friend asked.

" Yeah the last thing I remember, was the fact the he slept and dumbed you. " Another one replied, making Alex friend wooo at the girls.

" Yeah Alex I think you should stop your sister and her friends before they fight. " One of Alex friend said.

" Ahhh no need my mom his here already. Bye guys " he said before matching towards the car.

" What's wrong sweetheart? " Aunt Lynn asked Rita immediately we entered the car.

" Asked that bitch mom, she's trying to take Ryan away from me. " Rita yelled, my aunt looked at me from the rear mirror saying nothing.

" I told you, we should put her in another school, now looks she ruining my future. " Rita continued crying.

I never felt this nervous in my life. My aunt was silent right now, but I could see the storm in her eyes. I was preparing myself for whatever might happen to me when we got off this car.

Immediately we reached the house and my aunt back the car, I slowly got off it and made my way inside, while thanking her.

" Stop right there. " My aunt yelled, making me stop in my track as I turned slowly to look at her.

" How dare you, you ungrateful child. What you want to competing with a guy with my daughter is it? " She asked making me shake my head quickly.

" You this spoilt brat, you are just like your mother, who couldn't keep her leg shut, burdening other with her scandalous behavior. " She yelled, matching towards me and using her bag to hit.

I tried to protect myself as much as I could but the next I knew was my leg slipping from the floor and my head making contact with the floor. After that everything blacked out.
