My Heartless Husband

It was their third anniversary and Gloria was preparing a sumptuous dinner for his husband happily.

David was out for work but he would be anytime home which was making her nervous.

She wanted everything perfect according to his taste.

That's why she made every dish and was arranging everything how David liked them.

Three years of marriage must not be a special thing for people, but for Gloria, it was a great achievement.

Only she knows how much effort she has given to keep this marriage stable.

She was surprised when David suddenly ask for her hand on the day of her twentieth birthday and they get married within a week.

She had always wanted David as his boyfriend since the time she was twelve but never could muster up the courage to ask him out.

Gloria never thought even in her distant dream that David would suddenly ask for her hand and she will become Mrs. Collin overnight.

But these three years were not a smooth journey for her.

Even though David was the one who proposed to her; over these three years, he has behaved coldly with her.

He didn't ever initiate conversation, and neither they have shared any romantic event.

If it was not for him making love to Gloria every night, she would have thought, he don't like her.

But after passing so many years with him Gloria thought this is how he normally behaved.

Though he was cold and distant he have always taken care of her, which kept Gloria content

But who would have thought her dream would break down today?

The sound of the car make Gloria conscious and she quickly go through everything when she found out everything was perfect as she wanted, her face lit up happily.

She looked at herself in the mirror and walk out to greet her husband, but David was already sitting in the living room with an emotionless face.

He was waiting for her and when she walked toward him he showed him some papers which were lying on the coffee table.

Gloria picked up the papers, and her eyes were wide open with shock.

"David... what is this? If this is some kind of joke, don't do it again, please." Gloria says keeping these papers back in their place and sat on the sofa as her knees were trembling with the shock David has arranged for her.

"This is not some joke," David replied in his usual cold tone Gloria get up startled but because of her sudden movement, she lost balance and was going to fall but steady herself catching the handrest of the sofa.

"David, you are scaring me. This is our third anniversary. What are you saying now? You want me to divorce? Can I know what happened suddenly?" Gloria walked toward him and kneel in front of him, looking into his eyes.

She was still hoping it was some joke and David would laugh out saying he tricked her though it was not in his behavior to joke.

But his face was stern, and it didn't look like he was joking.

"Gloria, don't act innocent. You know why I married you that time. Now I have solved all my problems and Lia is healthy. I can't stay with you anymore. So let's divorce." He said and get up from the sofa.

He walked toward the stairs, leaving Gloria in a total mess and confused state.

"Lia" This word come out of her mouth and she couldn't believe her ears.

Lia was Gloria's cousin. Their mother was sisters, and they grew up together because Gloria lost her father at an early age and her mother return to her grandparents.

Gloria didn't have an uncle and Lia's mom was handling the business of her grandparents since then.

Her mom never liked to involve herself in this business, and she was involved in social service.

Gloria and Lia used to be close but when they get onto college, Gloria noticed some change in her behavior but never cared as Lia used to act polite every time Gloria felt something amiss to cover up the situation.

Then three years back Gloria's mom get into an accident and since then she was in a vegetative form.

Her grandfather divided their property and Lia's mom and Lia moved to London where Gloria stayed back with her grandparents in New York.

Within a month, she got married to David, and they moved to this house.

She was so busy with the new life that she almost forgot about Lia.

But how David was related to her?

She couldn't find out an answer, so she decided to ask David.

But when she entered their room David was not there, and his pillow was missing from the bed.

She come out of the room and as she thought the light of her adjacent room was on.

During these three years, they never slept separately if David was not out on a business trip.

Even last night they were sleeping together, and David pulled her close to him after making love.

Then what happened in a day that made him hate her so much that not only he was proposing to divorce but he even went to sleep in a separate room?

She wanted to go and ask him, but she was so heartbroken and drained out of energy that she walk inside and close the door.

She has already lost her appetite, but she didn't want to starve David so she called a maid and ask her to send some food to his room.

But the maid informed David don't want to eat anything.

She dismissed her and walk toward the bed and lie down feeling exhausted.

But sleep was the last thing she got that night.

She loved David for almost ten years and tried her best to keep this marriage for the last three years.

How could she feel peace when he wanted to destroy everything like this?

He didn't even tell her why he wanted to divorce her, what is her fault?

He just threw some paper on her face and leave her to deal with her emotions.

But this marriage is not something she had on paper, it was her everything.

But this thought that only a sign was needed to break everything apart, along with her heart made her weak and helpless.

No, she can't let that happen.

She will surely talk with David the next day, with this thought Gloria could close her eyes when it was almost dawn.

The next morning when Gloria woke up David had already left for his office.

She couldn't sleep all night and it was almost five in the morning when she could close her eyes and even after sleeping for three hours, she couldn't talk with him.

But Gloria didn't want to waste any more time as she was on pins and needles.

If she couldn't find him in the house, she can talk with him in his office.

After all, she is one of the shareholders of his company.

But talking with him was necessary, and she wanted to make everything perfect again before things go out of her hand.

She needed to know what made him take this decision and fix this thing so that they could return to their normal life.

She went to dress up hurriedly and ordered the butler to keep her car ready.

When she got down, there was already a car ready for her and she gets on it wasting no time.

She told the driver her destination and lean back tiredly.

Last night was like a nightmare for her.

She couldn't find any reason why David wanted a divorce and if she wouldn't found those papers still sitting in the living room, she would have dismissed all this, thinking it a bad dream.

But those papers were proof of her failed marriage, and she will try her best to fix this.

"Mam, we are here?" Gloria heard the voice of the driver and get off the car sighing.

This was the company where Collin works.

His grandfather has a separate business but when they married Collin was in a critical situation so his grandfather bought some shares in her name and supported David.

But Gloria never came here for any business meetings, though she has visited this office as Mrs. Collin several times, David was the one who handled all the business even the huge number of shares too.

But today when she came here there was a nervous feeling in her heart.

She was worried that Collin only married her for these shares only.

Though she dismissed this idea as soon as it hit her heart this idea was constantly bugging her mind when she remembered the papers.

She took a deep breath and walk inside the building.

Everyone who knew her identity greeted her as Mrs. Collin and this was making her more uncomfortable.

When Gloria reach the floor where his office was, he found out David's assistant Noah.

He was doing some work but noticing her he walk over to greet her.

"Mrs. Collin, what brings you here?" he asked politely though he was looking nervous.

Though Gloria was sure Noah know about the divorce as David's every word is handled by him but she didn't want to give him a hard time.

"I want to meet David." She replied, and Noah has a conflicted face.

"Mam, Sir is busy in a meeting..." He was hesitating but Gloria didn't give him time.

"I will wait in his office," Gloria said and walk inside.

She was waiting for almost two hours, but David didn't return.

She wanted to ask how long the meeting will go on so she come out but when she noticed David who was entering the elevator with a lady.

She couldn't see their face but she can't miss that person with whom she has spent three years.

"Mam, Sir just left for some work." Noah ran toward her and inform her immediately.

"Did you inform him about me?" Gloria asked, her gaze still looking at the elevator where those two people just left.

"Yes... but..." Noah was hesitating.

"Go back to your work," Gloria said and leave from there.

She absentmindedly returned to her house, but when she entered and saw a pair of female slippers on her doorstep, her heart was clenching in pain.

Still, she walked upstairs and wanted to ask him the reason for proposing a divorce.

She was walking toward her room when she heard some indecent voice which make her halt in her step.

"David, it's your bedroom. We shouldn't do it here. What if Gloria comes back?" This voice was her cousin's, Lia's

"So what? I am divorcing her soon." He says and there was a moan coming from inside.

"But you are not divorced yet, and she is still the shareholder of your company. What about the papers I told you to take her sign?" She ask and Gloria was confused.

What papers she was talking about?

"Those were in my study. I will make her sign those too." He says while groaning and she heard Lia moaning alongside him.

She didn't need to think twice about what was happening inside her bedroom, which used to be their marital bed two days back.

Gloria turned around and walk toward his study.

She is well known in this place as she has taken care of every room of this house for the last three years.

She opened the locker where David keep his important documents and there were some legal papers she wanted to see.

It was a transfer paper of Gloria's share.

If she signs them, David will become the sole owner of those shares which comprises almost fifty percent shares of his company.

Yes, Gloria had this much money invested in him, and don't mention the time and effort she has invested in this marriage.

Before marrying him, Gloria was doing an internship in her favorite fashion design company.

It was one of the best companies in New York and there was a saying whoever can work in that company can become a celebrity in the fashion world after coming out.

But she left all her dreams because she wanted to give all her time to this marriage.

She was on the moon hearing his proposal and nothing else mattered at that time.

But after seeing all this happening here everything felt like a stupid mistake.

Gloria didn't care why Lia was here instead of her or why David wanted to divorce her.

After seeing them do all this, Gloria just wanted to leave this place as it was suffocating for her.

She took those papers along with her and leave the house with a broken heart.

Gloria wanted to go to her grandma and cry her heart out as she was the only one who could understand her pain.

But she was afraid her grandpa would hurt David if he know the truth.

Though David didn't give a fuck about this relationship she cared for him and loved him.

She didn't want him to get hurt, though he was an asshole.

She was roaming around the town when her cell phone rang.

It was her doctor who was calling her.

She composed her distorted mind and receive the call.

"Hello, miss Hill." She asks trying to act calm and composed.

"Gloria, you did some tests last week. I have your report in my hand. Can you please come to collect them?" She asks.

I was so disturbed these few days I almost forgot about this report.

"Miss Hill, can you send them to me, please? I am busy slightly." Gloria said as she didn't want to go there for the time being.

"Actually, I wanted to talk with you." She said hesitating and Gloria sighed.

"Ok, I will be there in half an hour." She replied.

"Ok, I will keep my schedule free." Dr. Hill replied and cut the call.

Gloria told the driver to turn the car toward the Health Life hospital and leaned back tiredly.

She didn't realize when she fall asleep but she woke up when the driver call her to get off.

She told him to wait. Meanwhile, she went to meet the doctor inside.

Health Life hospital was one of the subsidiaries of White's, the company of his grandpa.

When she went to reception, she get to know the doctor was waiting for her and she entered her office with no delay.

Dr hill was in her early thirties but she was renowned in the medical field.

Gloria and her family were regular here because of her mother's health and she was close to Dr. Hill.

"Hi, Gloria. I was waiting for you." She said and gestured for her to sit and Gloria sat there worriedly.

"Is there any problem with my report?" She asked and the doctor shook her head and a smile formed on her face.

"Actually, you are pregnant." Dr. Hill informed, and her world collapsed suddenly hearing those words.

Gloria was recently trying to conceive as once she saw David playing with some child.

There was an image in her mind that he would like their child, too.

But at this moment when their relationship was collapsing, she didn't know how to react after hearing this news.

Dr. Hill talked with her about her pregnancy and Gloria leave her room after some time.

But this news put her unstable mind in another turmoil, and she walked toward the park outside the hospital and sat there with a sad mind.

She was happy because there was a life living inside her, and she would soon be a mother.

But she was worried about its future.

Would David accept it?

Would he cancel this divorce because of this child?

A lot of thoughts were surrounding her, making her heart clench in pain.

But suddenly a sweet giggle attracted her and she looked at the source.

There was a pair of twin playing in the park.

"Jenny, don't run. I will tell mom you make me run." The cute little boy said, running after her sister.

"Don't be a coward." The girl said and show him her tongue and run somewhere out of her sight.

But the cute bundle of joy brought a smile to her face, and a determination built inside her too.

It doesn't matter would David would accept this child or not.

This is her child, and she will protect them.

With this determination, she walked out of the park while calling his driver.

She needed to confront David, why he was doing all this to her.

Gloria walked inside her house and without wasting any time barged inside her bedroom.

Lia was still laying on the bed while David was sitting on the couch and working on his laptop.

With the sound of the opening of the door, they looked at her and Lia got up startled.

She was pulling the sheet over her to hide her nakedness.

"Gloria, nothing happened as you are thinking." Lia tried to say, but Gloria raised her hand to stop her.

"I am not here to talk to you. But I would surely like to talk with my husband. Can you come out?" Gloria asked, looking at David.

"You can talk here," David replied, but Gloria was not comfortable staying there.

"This room is dirty and I would like some privacy," Gloria says and left the room giving them any chance to retort.

Gloria was sitting in the living room when David come down after dressing up.

"What do you want to talk about? I have nothing to say. Just sign those papers and we can go on our way." David said, but Gloria was silent.

She looked at the papers and when she remember the test report; she wanted to give him a chance for the sake of their child.

"Can I know the reason for your decision?" She asked and David sit on the sofa.

"Wasn't it clear? I love Lia." He said and Gloria closed her eyes to stop the tears that were threatening to spill out and prove her weakness.

But she was adamant to stop them anyhow.

"What if I say I am pregnant?" Gloria asked lastly though her heart was crying.

"I don't believe there is any chance that the child is mine. We have always used protection." David said, and that made the girl shocked like hell.

Was he trying to say this child was not his?

How could he question her chastity?

This accusation was unacceptable.

Gloria can forgive him for hooking up with Lia.

But She could never forgive him for calling their child a bastard

"Then it is best that we divorce," Gloria said and pull out a pen from her bag.

She signed the documents with no hesitation and hand them to him.

"I wish Mr. Collin a happy life ahead and..." She pulled out the papers of share transfer from her bag and sign those papers too.

"This is my gift for your wedding," Gloria said and keep those papers beside the divorce papers.

She didn't even wait to see their expression and leave the house.

If she would have known, it was not her marriage that failed.

It was someone's wicked mind that played games to break this marriage.
