The night was deadly quiet that one could hear a pin drop a mile away. There were occasional chirps from small insects and birds, adding a touch of nature under the shadows of the moon.
"Bang!"
Suddenly, a gunshot echoed from the mountain. Hundreds of birds fluttered from their branches, twisting their wings from the sound. Before long, one large bang came one after the other, and the calm night was soon replaced with cold utter chaos.
Zac Rong clutched his injured right arm as he raced through the woods, dodging the swinging vines. He could only see the shadowy figures of those behind him, with the moon and a certain glow being his only light sources. Despite this, he glanced at his arm, noticing how his white sleeve was growing bloodier by the second.
As he had expected, the warm glow belonged to the lights of a temple. Given that the city was a hundred miles away, this was the only spot he could hide in. Without any hesitation, he snuck towards the gates and stood by the front door.
His left fist knocked against the woody surface, and he gritted his teeth. Unexpectedly, at his first knock, the door opened with a creak. It seemed that the door wasn't closed. Knowing that his own disaster was imminent, he didn't bother to call out as he slipped into the crack and ran straight into the temple.
Due to the flickering faint light, he could barely make out the little details of the building. The surrounding columns were wide, and the ceilings were high. His gaze fell onto the center, where people placed their incense sticks to pray to the gods.
The closest hiding place near the gate was through the main hall of the temple, so he had no other choice. Halfway down the corridor, the gunshots reverberated around the hall, its bullets soaring through the censer. It hit through the surfaces with a loud bang.
Zac Rong quickly hid himself by the side, leaning against the censer and dodging the bullets one after the other. He placed a hand over his racing heart and tried his best to calm his shaky grip. The moment the gunshots had stopped, he jumped up and shot towards the direction where the bullets had come from.
Of course, one vs. four was never a fair duel. Before he could react, another bullet shot through his arm, and he gritted his teeth. Blood trailed down and dribbled into the censer.
Before his opponents could attack, the censer emitted a faint light. Slowly, the glow became stronger and stronger that it almost blinded him entirely. Wisps of green smoke waved over the corners of the censer and surrounded them completely.
Everyone lowered their weapons as their gazes were locked onto the shining light. Suddenly, a fresh fragrance flew across them, entering their nostrils before they could react. Before long, they collapsed one by one.
The smoke rose from the censer and descended beside Zac Rong, who had also fallen unconscious. As the smoke grazed across the pavements, a womanly figure stepped out from the colors. Her dress and arms were as white as snow. The only contrast she had was her long inky hair. A breeze blew, and the edges of her fabric rustled from the wind.
Although pale, her face was beautiful. She looked like a queen or a goddess who had fallen onto the earth's land.
Dressed in white, her image flickered from the soft light, as if she could disappear at any moment.
Anita Su stared at the unconscious man on the ground, and the white light surrounding her figure dissipated with a wave of her hand. When she saw that the person who had saved her was a man, she immediately stepped back, and her eyes flashed.
She didn't bend over until she saw the blood dribbling down his wounds. With a sigh, she stretched out her fingertips, and a white glow spun around his injuries.
When the light force retreated, her face had grown paler.
Her ability was only limited, so the best she could do was to remove the foreign matter and to stop the bleeding. However, her body had grown translucent from the act.
As she only saw the man's profile, she couldn't help herself leaning in closer--tempted to see the face of her savior.
But when she stood up, a man in black rushed through the door of the temple. He had a gun in his hands, and he pointed it every column he passed, as if readying himself for an attack.
When the man in black entered, the vigilant woman straightened her back and stared at the newcomer.
Her hand glowed once again. Although she was weak, she had more than enough power to deal with these mortals.
"Zac!" the man choked out as he gazed at their numerous enemies. When his gaze fell on Zac Rong, he let out a snuffled cry as he rushed towards the censer.
Seeing as the man looked friendly towards her benefactor, she slowly withdrew her mana.
No one could see her due to her transparency. But even so, she continued to watch as the strange man trudged closer to her savior. When his hands grazed over the unconscious man's wounds, she stiffened and stared as the man helped Zac Rong up.
Her face grew paler and paler as she circulated the mana inside her system, in hopes of protecting him. As her vision blurred, she quickly transformed into a bright twinkle of light and hid in her savior's ring.
Soon enough, the peace returned to the forest as the pair limped away. It was as if nothing had happened up the mountains.
The hospital, however, was nowhere near peaceful. A burst of rapid footsteps reverberated across the hallway as the unconscious Zac Rong was carried onto the stretcher.
There were so many people crowding over his body that the ring had fallen down due to a series of varied movements. The metal toppled onto the tiles.
Everyone was too worried over the young man's life that they didn't even notice the ring.
Meanwhile, Anita Su, who had been hiding in the ring this entire time, appeared from the impact. Given that she had used most of her power back in the temple, her figure was almost transparent, making her blend over the wall perfectly.
She turned her head, noticing how her benefactor was being hurried into the resuscitation room. Different people surrounded his limp body. Some of them even pressed their hands over his chest, trying to get him to keep breathing.
The moment the door closed behind them, a loud crackle came from the clouds above. Anita Su trembled from the sound, and she jumped up. Her wide eyes stared at the large windows, curious as to what was happening.
Then, lightning flashed, and thunder boomed from the clouds above.
They were getting louder and louder, as if the skies above were trying to reach her.
Her hands trembled, feeling as if the thunder was growing closer and closer. The lightning flashed in her eyes, and she found herself running the other way.
"Don't catch me!" she whispered anxiously. "Please don't catch me."
Obviously, she wasn't the only one causing a ruckus inside the hospital, but no one could hear her. No one could even see her in this state.
Before she knew it, another stretcher was pushed down the corridors hurriedly. A group of nurses and doctors followed the bed, as a middle-aged woman caught up with them. "Please save my daughter," she begged shakily, staring at the limp body with so much devastation in her eyes that Anita Su almost flinched.
The group of people passed through her body and headed straight to the resuscitation room.
Anita Su wrinkled her nose in disbelief. She glanced at those people again, making out the sound of their voices. Suddenly, the woman lying on the stretcher shakily whispered out, "Zac."
Although the woman's voice was soft, she could still make out what she was saying.
However, that wasn't what she was worried about. What she was more concerned of was how they passed through her body without them noticing!
Lowering her head, she glanced over at her pale hands and dainty dress, frowning when she could still make out her figure. If that was so, what the hell was that about?
Before she could think any further, the lightning struck the sky again, causing her to jump up in severe panic. She found herself sprinting into the resuscitation room before the door could close.
As she entered the room, she could make out the same pale woman that had passed through her body in the hallway. Anita watched.
The woman looked incredibly calm, as if she had already known the path she was about to take. However, there was something about her open eyes that made Anita quiver. The pale woman was staring right at her direction, as if she could actually see her.
The corners of the woman's lips raised, and Anita furrowed her eyebrows.
Could this woman see her?
Just as the idea came into her mind, the woman gradually closed her eyes, and a wave of silence fell into the room.
The doctor straightened his back and sighed. Wiping the sweat beading down his forehead, he pushed the door open and greeted the people outside, "We've tried our best." He bowed. "I'm sorry."
A cry ripped out the silence.
One of the nurses announced as she held the clipboard tightly to her chest, "Bella Pei died at one fifty a.m. on April 15, 2017."
The moment the door opened, a flash of lighting hit the large tree outside the emergency room. Bright flames sparked across the dark skies.
Anita froze. The lightning was so close to her, as if it was serving as her warning.
She gazed at her translucent body. She couldn't face them, not now at least. There needed to be someplace else where she could hide.
Suddenly, an idea flashed through her mind. The pale body of Bella Pei attracted her attention.
The woman was already dead. Given that the woman's name was not on the book of life and death in Yama's hand, it meant that the woman had already ascended.
Therefore, the woman's body was hers for the taking.
With a flick of her wrists, she transformed into the bright light once again and entered the woman's body without any hesitation.
Bella Pei, who was being pushed out, was covered with a thick layer of white cloth. Before anyone could push her into the morgue, her family quickly crowded around her, screaming her name, "Bella, Bella! Open your eyes, sweetie. Look at Mom!" The woman ripped off the white cloth and shook Bella Pei's shoulders. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she repeatedly gripped the woman's frail bones.
As each moment passed, she was growing even more desperate.
Before the nurses could push her way, Bella Pei finally opened her eyes. A considerable weight lied on the bottom half on her waist, and when she tilted her head, she could see that a woman was lying on her.
The woman's face brightened with joy. "Bella! I know you wouldn't leave me."
Her quick recovery had surprised all of the medical staff. Those who were crying earlier froze at the miraculous sight.
Mrs. Pei, Bella's mother, was afraid of pressing down on her too hard that she quickly scrambled back up. However, when the young girl also sat up from the stretcher, even the ecstatic woman was left surprised.
Anita was about to leave when the doctors quickly rushed her back into the examination room to quickly run through some diagnostic.
However, what they didn't expect was for her to jump from the stretcher and sprint out of the room before anyone could find out.
After all, the woman had just been declared dead. Her heartbeat had flatlined a few minutes ago. No one in their right mind would expect that such a woman could also be quick and agile. When they turn around to complete the diagnostics, they found that the stretcher was already empty.
Anita had used her mana to escape. She leaned against the wall, glancing around at the completely strange sight. She wasn't used to this – the quick environment and the unknown technology. Her eyebrows furrowed, trying to take in the unfamiliar sight.
The only person she knew of was the man who had saved her, but now, she found that she could no longer find him.
On the other side of the wall, Zac had been pushed into the ward. The doctor glanced at the nurses around the bedpost and raised an eyebrow. "Have the wounds been treated?"
"No. What's wrong?" The man in black furrowed his eyebrows.
"There aren't any bullets. The wounds have just stopped bleeding when you sent him in here, so they must've been treated." Otherwise, how could there have been no bullets?
Hearing the doctor's words, the man remembered how the wounds had stopped bleeding when he saved Zac from the temple. He could simply shrug in reply.
"He's fine," the doctor announced after doing a full-body examination.
At his words, everyone in the ward breathed a sigh in relief as they stared at the unconscious man. For a moment, it seemed that everything had calmed down and returned to its once peaceful state.
As time passed, the inky sky began to change into various colors of orange and yellow. Slowly, the sun rose from a distance, its bright rays coursing through the window frame.
Anita, who hadn't seen the sun rise in years, stretched out her hand to block the dazzling light. She had been exhausted from walking around the hospital and quickly slouched by the lounge chair in the outer corridor. Even then, her eyes were still squinted as they looked for her savior.
She still needed to pay him back for saving her. After that, she could leave.
Anita peered through the side and squinted her eyes at the squiggly words on the columns. After being locked up for more five hundred years, she was unfamiliar with everything, let alone the directions. Her finger twitched, prying the fabric sticking into her skin like glue.
Just then, Zac shot up, wide awake. The first thing he did was stand by the window and observe the wounds that had punctured his arm. Seeing that everything seemed good, he rolled down his sleeves and appreciated the scenery in front of him.
The yellow stream of light reflected on Zac's face. Its warm rays was large contrast to his arrogant expression and cold eyes.
He stared aimlessly at the people passing by the stairs. It wasn't until he saw Bella that he froze almost completely. His eyes widened by a fraction, and he quickly straightened his back. His supposed indifferent eyes flashed.
Thinking that the woman was nothing more than an illusion, he turned to Hearst Zhan, who had just walked in. "Is that Bella?"
Hearst Zhan also turned his gaze to the woman at the ground floor. At that time, he could make out Bella's small figure amongst the crowd. Although he felt a bit strange about what had happened last night, he still told Zac, "Last night, when Miss Bella found that you've been in an accident, her condition had gotten so bad that she was rushed into the resuscitation room. In fact, she had been announced as dead and was ready to be pushed into the morgue. Her mother had shaken her so hard that she opened her eyes. When the doctor was about to do an examination, she just disappeared. Right now, the Pei Family is still looking for her."
Given the woman's presence right below them, it seemed that they still hadn't found her.
The two of them had been staring at the strange woman this entire time. After glancing around, she finally raised her head and met the eyes of the men standing by the window.
They were probably meters apart, but being a mythical creature, Anita had sharper vision than many mortals. She could make out Zac's face at a glance, and when she did, she froze.
Suddenly, all of the memories that had been concealed in her for the last five hundred years came rushing back like a tidal wave.
The pavilions, terraces, and towers in a remote mountain shot in her mind. There was a lake that was partially hidden within a ring of peach blossoms. Its gurgling water sent a hint of vitality within such a calm scenery.
It should've been the perfect place to meet her lover. However, her fancy was replaced with a lethal betrayal, which led to her demise.
"You're wrong! I cheated on you to use the Taoist's magic spell, and it's all my idea."
"No. That's impossible!" Her regal face grew pale from the revelation. Although she had already found herself in such a predicament by being chained by the Taoist's magic spell, Anita still didn't want to believe that the man she had loved would betray her like this!
"Anita, you're a demon, and I'm a human," he said, spatting the remaining words as if they were poison. "We were never meant to be."
"What about your promises? Huh? You said that you would marry me! I even have your baby now!" Anita watched him as he picked up a bow and arrow and aimed it at her bare stomach. Without even a moment's hesitation, the arrow pierced through her skin, and she screamed in pain.
The blood freely flowed down the hem of her dress, and there was no trace of pity in his eyes. She flinched at the sight. "You're dead to me," he stated.
Anita didn't feel any pain from the gaping wound. Nothing could hurt more than the searing pain that had latched onto her heart. "I will make you die the most miserable death!" she snarled as her memory went blank.
"Excuse me, please!" A hurried voice sounded, bringing Anita back to reality.
She stepped aside and stared at Zac who was still standing by the window.
Anita would never forget the face her entire life. That was the man who had brought her to destruction, and he was going to pay the price.
Without hesitation, Anita rushed into his room. Within seconds, Zac saw that the woman he had been staring at this entire time was already in his room.
Standing by the door, she stared at the two men who had been gazing at her. Her eyes were as sharp as blades. If looks could kill, the man would've already been twelve feet under.
Zac and Hearst Zhan could only stare at the woman in surprise. They had just been looking at her not too long ago. How could she just show up here all of a sudden? Although the second floor was not as high up, she wouldn't be able to get here that fast using an elevator.
However, at this point, both of them had no time to even think about it. All they could do is stare at her aggressive figure. She definitely wasn't as lively and lovely as she had been before the incident.
Zac could even see the hatred glinting under the depths of her manic gaze, as if she wanted to tear him apart right on the spot. His eyes widened by a fraction.
He had never thought that he would saw such strong hatred from this innocent woman.
However, just as she walked towards him aggressively, she found that she couldn't use any of her mana. No matter how much she tried, her hands still didn't emit any glowing light, as if she had been drained just by the mere thought of murdering him. At this moment, it seemed that she was no different from any of the mortals.
Could it be that she couldn't use her mana because she was in this human's body? She pursed her lips. No. It obviously worked just now.
It seemed that the only explanation she had was most likely due to her mana declining over such a long period of time.
Otherwise, there was no other way to explain this phenomenon.
Glancing up at the two men in front of her, Anita winced. She knew fully well that at this point, she was no match against two of them right now. Her fingernails dug into her palm. There were still many chances to kill him, after all. Taking a deep breath, she held back her boiling anger. With a turn of her head, she was about to leave.
However, before she could take another two steps, the old lady had rushed in. "Bella!" she cried out in relief. "Where have you been?"
From the look of her bloodshot eyes, it seemed that the woman had been crying. "Are you okay? Did you–"
Anita winced at how tightly she had been holding her. She didn't want to talk to the woman at first, but after seeing how anxious she was, she quickly patted her shoulders. "I'm fine," she murmured.
A doctor dressed in a white coat came in. From the moment he had arrived by the door of the ward, he didn't take one look away from Anita, as if he had been observing her every movement.
It wasn't until then did he stop and say, "Mrs. Rong, come with me. You must take your physical examination."
After a short pause, Anita stilled. There were only two women in the ward, she and Bella's mother. Since the doctor had said 'Mrs. Rong', the young woman could only assume that he was speaking to her mother.
However, when no movement occurred from any of them, she furrowed her eyebrows.
Was this body someone else's wife?
Seeing that she wasn't willing to get checked, Mrs. Pei reached out to grab her daughter's hand. "Come, Bella, let's examine you first, okay?"
Instinctively, Anita withdrew her hand from the strange touch and staggered backwards.
"Bella, come on. Let's go get you checked," Mrs. Pei persuaded.
"No!" Anita grabbed the ends of the sickbed, not wanting to let go.
Mrs. Pei tried her best to pull Anita's hand away, but she failed. Even the nurses rushed in to help the older woman, but they still couldn't get her to release her hold.
Seeing this, the doctor sighed. "Mrs. Pei, I think she might not be comfortable in getting examined right now. How about I prescribe some medicine for you to take home? If something comes up, you can give her these medications. If something is wrong, then you can come to the hospital again." After saying that, he turned to Zac–who had been standing by the window this entire time, observing the scene as if he was some sort of spectator. "Mr. Rong, are you okay with this?"
"I'm okay with this," he stated, removing his gaze from the woman.
Judging from the situation she was in right now, the doctor was hard to tell what kind of examination she should undergo. As for Mrs. Pei, she couldn't care less whatever examination. Her daughter was here alive. The miraculous recovery was all she cared about.
Due to this, she readily agreed with the doctor's advice.
Her daughter's good condition was only good news to her.
Although Bella's recovery was a strange phenomenon, everyone could only point that to a miracle.
Since she didn't like any medical examination, she could leave whenever she wanted, as the doctor was afraid that it might only worsen her anxiety levels even further.
After a more detailed discussion of medications and the like, the Rong and Pei families finally agreed for her to leave the hospital and go home.
Once the doctor went ahead through all the discharge formalities, the crowd finally quieted down. Mrs. Pei took this opportunity to glance at his son-in-law. "Zac, how is your injury?"
"It's fine now," he replied indifferently. He twisted and turned his injured arm, furrowing his eyebrows.
Why wasn't he feeling any pain?
Hearing Mrs. Pei's words, Anita turned her gaze to Zac once again. Just then, she could make out the ring on his finger, the object where she had hidden in when she was rescued from the censer.
It was only then when she realized that he was none other than her benefactor.
It seemed that her enemy five hundred years ago, was her savior five hundred years after. Was God really fascinated with ironies? Or was He giving her a chance to take revenge on her lost years?
Seeing at the way she had been staring at the ring on his finger, Zac couldn't help but furrow his eyebrows. That was their wedding ring. She even picked it out herself. She would never stare at it with such a vile expression.
He stiffened when her gaze turned cold.
It was impossible to think that she was close to her deathbed that night.
Plus, there were his wounds. Something about today just didn't make any sense.
As if someone could read his thoughts, another doctor came in and addressed him, "Mr. Rong, according to our examination, your wounds had been treated before you were sent here, so everything's fine now. All you need to do is take your medications, and you can leave the hospital."
Zac nodded, without even bothering to give the doctor a response. He didn't feel any pain on his arm, so he agreed with leaving the hospital. No matter how many times Hearst persuaded him against it, his soft pleas didn't work. Zac shrugged his shoulders. At this point, there was no need in staying here.
The doctor turned to Anita as a faint smile graced his lips. "Mr. and Mrs. Rong, congratulations on your quick recovery." He bowed his head.
"Mr. and Mrs. Rong?" Anita, who had been staring at Zac this entire time, didn't bother to look at the doctor. She only turned to him when he said his congratulations.
She might have been separated from the world for more than half a century, but her brain functioned just fine. From what the doctor had just said, it seemed that the man who had saved her was none other than her husband in this world.
"Bella? Are you okay?" At the sound of her muffled cry, Mrs. Pei quickly reached the young woman's side and held her by the shoulders. Her calm face contorted with worry for her daughter.
Although she had taken possession of Bella's body, Anita had no idea how this woman behaved or acted in usual. She didn't know how to react to the old lady's words, afraid of giving herself away. As a result, she could only ignore Mrs. Pei's unwavering concern.
"Mrs. Rong might be having some difficulty in acting like herself. Given her near-death experience, it would take some time before her neural cells could keep up." What Anita didn't expect was for the doctor to explain for her.
No one doubted the doctor's explanation. After all, all of this had just happened in one day. Who would've thought that such a disaster would wreck their wedding? Bella had just been sent to the hospital halfway through their wedding.
After everything had been done, both families had compromised that they would go home together. Anita was willing to do whatever they wanted, only because she believed that this opportunity would be good for her. Sharing the same house with him would give her more opportunities for her to end him.
If she had known that she would marry him five hundred years ago, she would've jumped in ecstasy and sang the happiest tunes that could ever grace the earth's soil. However now, she only had one thing in mind, and that was to end his life the way he had done to her.
"Zac, your mother stated that you're safe and well. We'll be having dinner together tomorrow night. Will you be attending?" Bella's mother peered at Zac on the front seat.
He nodded in response.
Having his permission, Hearst was the one driving them straight to Rong Mansion. The ride was steady and slowly. After all, there were two 'patients' in the car. If he drove any faster, it might have an effect on their recovery.
About half an hour later, the car finally arrived at the gates of the solemn villa. The wide iron gates opened for them, and the car drove in.
Anita couldn't help but stare at the mansion in front of her. From the looks of it, the villa had around three floors, with each floor having its own unique interior design. Once they had entered the pathway, the three of them slowly got out of the car and Hearst drove the vehicle into the garage.
The soles of her feet tapped against the cobblestone path as Anita took in the waving ginkgo trees from both sides. At the end of the path, she could see a clear outdoor swimming pool, its bright blue shade rippling from the gentle breeze. On the opposite side of the swimming pool was the three-story villa. Beside the gate, there were hundreds of flowers and trees, making it seem as if they were living beside their own enchanted forest. The smell of pollen and nature made her lips curve.
As soon as they entered the villa, they saw two stairways forming an arch around the walkway, framing the small elegant fountain in the middle. The crystal chandelier shadowed the centerpiece as its jewels glinted from the natural light.
As soon as Anita stepped into the household, a lady quickly came to greet her. The woman was about to ask something else, but upon seeing the exhaustion on her face, she decided to say nothing else. "Can I be taken to my room?" Anita whispered wearily.
Mrs. Pei didn't bother to hesitate as she quickly led her daughter up to her room and helped her onto the bed. Once she wrapped her around the quilt, she touched her face. "Sleep well, okay?" she reminded. "If you feel uncomfortable, don't hesitate to call out."
It wasn't until she saw her daughter closed her eyes that Mrs. Pei finally stood up. The middle-aged woman was about to watch over her when Zac pushed the door open. Mrs. Pei stopped herself. As an elder, it wouldn't be right for her to disrupt any time between the couple. Seeing this, she said her goodbyes and walked out of the room, making sure to close the door behind her.
Once Bella's mother had left, Zac stopped and stood at the end of the bed, staring at her peaceful face. With a sigh, he turned and walked towards the balcony.
He didn't know that Anita was actually awake and staring at his back.
At that time, he was standing by the window and staring at the grounds below him. He must've been deep in thought from the way his eyes glazed over repeatedly the scenery in front of him.
Anita got out of bed cautiously, only to see him turn to face her. Although it had already been five hundred years, his face still remained the same. He still had the same ruthless eyes that had stared her down when he sealed her.
Now that they were the only ones in the room, she could take her revenge. Anita took one step towards him, but his expression remained the same.
Just as she was about to make a move, the past flashed through her mind. His heartless laugh and greedy eyes. She would never forget the way he had pierced his betrayal into her heart, and the way he had stabbed her so mercilessly as if her love meant nothing to him. Her hands curled into fists.
She was about to cast her mana, only to remember that she wouldn't be able to use it now. Anita winced at her stupidity. Being locked up for half a century must've taken a toll on her magical core.
Without her mana, she could only think of another way.
Zac looked out of the window once again, as if he couldn't care less about her. Anita smirked, thinking that God had given her many chances to kill him now.
She briskly walked to his side and stared at the grounds below him. They were on the third floor, so the pavements below them was definitely far ahead. If he fell down on his head, he would definitely die on her hands.
The scene flashed in her mind. His head would smashed against one of the sharp corners of the rock, and blood would spurt out from his injuries. Her lips twitched, imagining his downfall.
At the thought, she slowly moved towards him. However, before she could even touch him, he turned towards her.
There was something in his eyes that seemed to ask her, "What are you up to?"
At this moment, Anita looked like a deer caught in headlights. She slowly lowered her arms, seeming at a loss of what to do. After all, her mana was lost, and she was nothing but a mortal for now. If he knew of her plan, then she wouldn't be any match for him.
She slowly turned around, about to leave him when he grabbed her wrist. Before giving her a chance to react, he pulled her against his chest, not taking into account that she had just been declared dead a few hours ago.
"What were you doing just now, Bella?" he asked softly.
Feeling disgusted by his grip, Anita wanted nothing more than to break free from his hold, but she felt powerless under his hand. Seeing as there was no point of struggling, a charming smile slipped into her lips. She raised her another hand and stroked the side of his cold cheek. "This."
Her eyes glinted. There was something about her that made Zac lose his mind. Everyone had stated how much she had changed after her recovery, but he never really took in the extent until now.
She had never done such a thing like this before.
Just then, before he could say anything, the door was quickly opened and closed immediately, as if the newcomer might've thought it inappropriate to interrupt such an intimate time. It was only because of this that Zac finally came to his senses and let go of her hand.
As expected, the charming smile on Anita's lips disappeared the moment he let go of her hand. And her eyes reflected a cool indifference.
A phone call rang out, causing him to leave.
Staring at his receding figure, Anita crossed her arms over her chest. Seeing as they were husband and wife, she would be given many chances to kill him. As of now, she wasn't in a rush.
