My Ex's Powerful Uncle Is My True Mate

Author: Bao Fu Ya Ya
Genre: Werewolf
At my engagement party, my fiancé's mistress smiled sweetly before deliberately shoving me backward into the freezing lake. My fiancé, Julian, dove into the water without a second thought. But instead of saving me, his betrothed, he swam right past my drowning body to rescue the woman who had just pushed me. "My god, he went for Miss Cohen first instead of Lady Seraphina!" The cruel whispers of the noble guests reached me through the water, identical to the ones from my past life. In that previous life, I flailed and screamed, surviving only to be framed by them, stripped of my dignity, and driven to a pathetic death while Julian and his mistress lived happily ever after. His powerful family watched me suffer, blaming me for ruining their pristine reputation while turning a blind eye to his blatant betrayal. I never understood why my years of absolute devotion were repaid with such vicious cruelty, or why I had to be the sacrificial lamb for their disgusting love story. But reborn, I didn't panic or fight the freezing water. As the icy darkness swallowed me, a dark shape sliced through the murky depths, and a powerful arm yanked me to the surface. It wasn't my fiancé, but Gideon Carlisle-Julian's terrifying, untouchable uncle and the Commander of the kingdom's deadliest guard. Wrapped in his heavy coat under the shocked gaze of the crowd, I smiled. This time, I wouldn't just break the engagement, I would tear Julian's pride to shreds.

Chapter 1

Seraphina POV:

For three years of my past life, Julian Carlisle-the future heir to the pack and the man meant to be my Alpha mate-had treated me worse than a stray dog.

After our political marriage, he banished me to the draftiest corner of the manor. He paraded his low-born Omega mistress, Angele Cohen, in my dresses and jewels. And when Angele finally decided she wanted the title of Luna for herself, she poisoned the Matriarch's tea and framed me for the treason.

Julian didn't even investigate. He threw me into the dungeon. And then, he initiated The Rejection.

In our wolf society, an Alpha forcefully severing a recognized mate-bond is a physical violence against a lower-ranking Omega. When Julian spoke the ancient words of rejection, it felt as though my very ribs were being pried open. My heart was crushed by an invisible, burning fist.

I collapsed on the stone floor, coughing up mouthfuls of black blood, my wolf spirit whimpering in terminal, suffocating agony as our soul-tie was violently ripped apart.

I was paralyzed, bleeding out from the inside. That was when Angele stepped into my cell.

Julian stood safely behind the iron bars, his eyes filled with revulsion for his "treacherous" wife. Angele wore a sweet, triumphant smile as she knelt beside my broken body. She didn't just bring poison; she poured the burning wolfsbane down my throat under the guise of "mercy," watching with glee as it melted my insides.

I died listening to their footsteps walking away together.

My vision faded into a suffocating, endless black. The burning agony in my chest finally stopped, replaced by a cold, heavy void. I thought it was the absolute end.

But out of the darkness, a blinding light suddenly pierced my consciousness.

I gasped violently, my lungs desperately pulling in crisp, sweet air instead of dungeon rot. My eyes flew open.

I wasn't in the dungeon. I was standing in the bright, manicured gardens of Carlisle Manor, holding a crystal champagne flute.

It was our engagement party-the grand event meant to cement the political alliance between the Lancaster and Carlisle packs. The exact day my nightmare had begun.

My hands trembled uncontrollably as I stared at my reflection in the champagne glass. I saw my eighteen-year-old face. No scars, no hollowed cheeks, no blood on my lips.

I was alive. I had returned to the past.

The Moon Goddess had actually dragged my soul back through time, granting me a second chance. As the sheer shock washed over me, my initial panic quickly evaporated, replaced by a burning, undeniable hatred.

I couldn't just walk away. An Omega breaking a royal betrothal without cause would be hunted down as a rogue. If I wanted to survive, I had to force the Carlisle pack to discard the betrothal themselves. I had to ruin Julian's reputation so thoroughly, make him so repulsive to the public, that the pack elders would beg to sever the tie to save their own honor.

That was my plan. And my first opportunity was walking right toward me.

Angele Cohen approached, her smile as practiced and flawless as a court painter's masterpiece.

"Seraphina, darling," she murmured, her voice dripping with fake concern. "You look a little pale. Is the engagement proving too much for you?"

In my past life, this was when she "accidentally" stumbled forward, shoving me into the freezing lake while making it look like I had clumsily tripped.

Not this time.

As Angele lunged forward to shove my shoulders, I didn't freeze. I let out a terrified, theatrical gasp. Instead of stepping back, I held my ground just long enough for her hands to plant firmly against my chest. Then, I deliberately threw my weight backward over the stone edge.

To ensure there was no doubt about who the aggressor was, my fingers shot up and grabbed Angele's wrists, tangling her hands in my own heavy, multi-layered pearl necklace-a gift from the Carlisle Matriarch herself.

As I pulled Angele down with me, the violent motion caused the silk thread of my necklace to snap against her wrists.

"Ahhh!" Angele shrieked in genuine terror. The priceless pearls scattered like hail across the stone patio right where she had been standing, while we both plunged into the dark water.

The frigid lake swallowed us. The shock of it was a brutal baptism, washing away the last remnants of the naive, tragic girl I used to be.

I surfaced, shivering and gasping for air. A chorus of horrified gasps erupted from the shore.

"My heavens! Miss Cohen shoved Lady Seraphina! She ripped the Matriarch's pearls right off her neck!" a noblewoman cried out, pointing at the scattered pearls on the edge.

Because Angele's hands had been caught on my necklace when we fell, it looked exactly as I intended: an unprovoked, vicious assault by a jealous mistress.

Then, I saw him. Julian Carlisle. A flash of gold hair and righteous fury, rushing to the water's edge.

"Julian! Help me!" Angele thrashed in the water, coughing pathetically.

Without a moment's hesitation, Julian dove in. He swam right past me, his own fiancée. His entire being was focused on reaching the woman who had just ostensibly tried to drown me. He gathered Angele into his arms, pulling her close, leaving me to tread water in my heavy, suffocating gown.

The murmurs from the guests grew louder, filled with absolute disgust.

"By the Goddess, he went for Miss Cohen first!"

"He abandoned his own intended Luna to save her attacker!"

My plan was working flawlessly. The first nail in the coffin of his public reputation had been driven.

Just as my waterlogged dress threatened to drag me under, a hush fell over the chaotic shoreline. It wasn't a gradual quiet, but an instant, terrified silence. The temperature in the air seemed to drop ten degrees.

I heard a trembling whisper from a nearby lord. "Is that... the Living Death? Commander Gideon?"

A dark shape sliced through the water with terrifying speed.

Before I could react, a powerful hand gripped the collar of my gown. With a brutal, effortless heave, I was yanked from the lake. I was tossed onto the stone bank, coughing up water, my teeth chattering uncontrollably.

I looked up, water blurring my vision, and met a pair of ice-blue eyes.

Gideon Carlisle. Julian's uncle. But unlike my foolish fiancé, Gideon was a dominant Alpha-the Alpha King's most feared weapon and the Commander of the Direwolf Guard. His sheer combat prowess and ruthless nature made him an anomaly; he answered to no one, not even his own mother, the Matriarch of the pack.

His presence commanded an oppressive, suffocating aura that made every other wolf in the garden instinctively lower their heads in submission.

He was the man I would soon have to call "Uncle," yet looking at his imposing figure now, I saw the only piece on the chessboard powerful enough to destroy Julian.

He stood towering over me, his black uniform completely dry, having merely reached down from the bank to haul me out. He didn't offer a hand to help me up. His expression was a mask of cold, unyielding granite.

He unclasped his heavy, black Direwolf coat and tossed it down. It landed over my shivering shoulders, blocking the prying eyes of the crowd. The thick wool smelled of cedar and the sharp, clean bite of winter.

"Take her to the west wing," Gideon commanded, his voice a low, rough growl that vibrated through my very bones. He didn't even look at me as he spoke to a terrified maid. "Do not let her die on Carlisle grounds."

He turned and walked away, his heavy boots echoing against the stone, leaving behind a crowd too terrified to even breathe.

I wrapped his warm coat tighter around myself; my face was a mask of shock and cold, yet beneath the surface, my mind was racing with how to use this pawn.

Chapter 2

A trembling maid, terrified of angering the Commander, practically dragged me through the corridors toward the west wing-Gideon's private territory.

As the hot water of the bathing chamber finally chased the deep chill from my bones, my mind shifted from the chaos at the lake to the immediate threat ahead.

The first step of my plan had worked perfectly: Julian choosing to save his mistress from the freezing lake while leaving his intended Luna to drown had driven a massive wedge into his reputation.

But this drama is far from over. I know Eleonora Carlisle-the matriarch of the pack. In her eyes, family honor and political alliances far outweigh any personal humiliation. Without a doubt, she will attempt to cover up today's "accident" and force the marriage through.

To win the upcoming judgment in her parlor, I needed a shield. I needed leverage.

Stepping out of the bath, I wrapped myself in a simple, borrowed tunic. I glanced at the mirror. My violet eyes held a cold, ancient exhaustion that didn't belong on an eighteen-year-old face.

"My Lady, are you alright?"

My personal maid, Willow, rushed into the room, holding a soft towel. Her eyes were red, brimming with genuine, unshed tears of worry.

"I am fine, Willow," I said smoothly, reaching out to gently squeeze her trembling hand.

In my past life, I had been frail and sickly, constantly at the mercy of others. I had failed to protect myself, and I had failed to protect the few who were truly loyal to me, like Willow, who had been brutally beaten by the Matriarch's guards for trying to sneak me food when I was locked in the dungeon.

Gazing at her tear-streaked face, a chilling realization settled over me. I was completely defenseless. The enemies in this manor ran deep. I was surrounded by vipers-Julian, Angele, the Matriarch-and playing the helpless, fragile Omega would eventually get me and my loyal servants killed all over again. I needed real power.

The betrayals ran deeper than Julian and Angele. I was sleeping with vipers in my own nest.

I masked my inner turmoil instantly, my face a placid mask. "Thank you, Willow. You may wait outside. Do not cry for me."

Once the door clicked shut, I took a deep breath to steady my racing heart. I was surrounded by enemies, and my own father was too far away to protect me. My eyes landed on the heavy oak door leading to Gideon's private study.

Gideon Carlisle.

He was the anomaly of this pack. A dominant Alpha who commanded the Kingdom's most lethal army. He didn't bow to the Matriarch. If I wanted to survive and eventually break this betrothal, I needed him on my side.

But a ruthless military commander like Gideon didn't offer his protection out of pity. He despised weakness. He valued strength, utility, and absolute competence. If I wanted to use him, I had to prove I wasn't just another fragile, weeping Omega. I had to prove my worth.

I dressed quickly and stepped into his study. It was a massive room, lined with bookshelves and smelling of old parchment, ink, and that intoxicating scent of winter cedar.

Gideon wasn't there. But on his massive oak desk lay a chaotic pile of ancient scrolls, written on brittle sheepskin.

I walked over, my eyes scanning the faded script. Silvermoon Dynasty. Legal codices regarding territorial disputes.

I recognized the text immediately. In my past life, desperate to earn Julian's approval and prove I was worthy of being his Luna, I had spent years agonizingly studying ancient wolf history, heraldry, and the forgotten tongues of the Third Age. Julian had never cared; he had mocked me for being a boring bookworm.

But Julian was a fool. I was now standing in the private sanctuary of the Direwolf Commander. Although Gideon and I had barely spoken in my past life, his reputation was known to everyone in the kingdom: a tactical genius, a man who demanded absolute order and efficiency.

The fact that these ancient, notoriously difficult-to-translate scrolls were left in a messy pile on his desk meant they were a frustrating obstacle he hadn't yet solved. He hadn't bothered to lock them away because, to ninety-nine percent of the kingdom, they were just unreadable, useless sheepskin. He would never suspect a coddled noble Omega could decipher a single word.

I looked at the messy pile, a calculated plan forming in my mind. This was my opening. I didn't need him to like me, and I certainly didn't expect his pity. I just needed him to see that I was useful. This was how I would force the Commander to truly look at me.

Without a second thought, I sat at his desk, unrolled the first brittle scroll, and began to organize them.

Chapter 3

Seraphina POV:

I lost myself in the task, my hands moving with a fluid confidence. I sorted the scrolls into categories: War Records, Pack Laws, and Moon Goddess Rites. It was a puzzle that calmed my racing heart.

I was just unrolling a brittle scroll detailing the ancient Blood Moon Pact when the heavy oak door clicked shut.

Not slammed. Clicked. The sheer, silent stealth of it was terrifying.

I turned. Gideon stood inside the room. He didn't say a word, but the oppressive, suffocating aura of a dominant Alpha instantly filled the space, thick as a physical weight. His ice-blue eyes narrowed as he took in the sight of me sitting at his desk, handling his ancient military archives.

"What are you doing?" His voice sounded unnaturally calm, like a ribbon slowly winding itself around my throat.

I stood up, forcing my spine straight, refusing to cower before his Gamma pressure. "Waiting for you, Commander. And making myself useful. These scrolls were in disarray."

He didn't yell. Instead, he closed the distance between us with a slow, predatory grace. He stopped only when the tips of his heavy black boots were mere inches from my bare toes. He was so tall I had to tilt my head entirely back to meet his gaze.

The scent of him-sharp winter wind and rich cedar-crashed over me, completely swallowing the faint scent of my own Omega nature.

He glanced down at the perfectly organized piles on the desk, then back at me. A flicker of genuine shock briefly cracked his stony facade.

"You can read the Old Tongue?" he demanded, his tone dropping an octave.

"To be the future Luna of a high noble house requires a thorough education," I lied smoothly, keeping my voice steady despite the frantic beating of my heart. "I am quite familiar with the vernacular of the Third Age. I noticed these were uncatalogued."

Gideon stared at me. It was a penetrating, invasive look, as if he were peeling back my skin to read the secrets inscribed on my bones. I held my breath. I had thrown the bait; now I just had to see if he would bite.

His gaze slowly dragged from my eyes, down to my neck-exposed by the slightly oversized collar of the borrowed tunic-before snapping back up to my face. The air between us suddenly felt entirely too thin.

"Silas," Gideon called out, his voice sharp, breaking the suffocating silence.

His scarred lieutenant appeared instantly at the doorway, keeping his eyes firmly on the floor. "Commander?"

"Tea," Gideon ordered curtly.

Silas vanished and returned a moment later with a steaming mug on a silver tray. He set it on a side table and immediately left, closing the door behind him. We were alone again.

Gideon picked up the mug. He turned back to me, but he didn't hand it over immediately. He held it suspended in the space between us, forcing me to reach for it.

I raised my hands, wrapping my fingers around the warm porcelain.

But Gideon didn't let go.

For a long, agonizing second, we were both holding the cup. His massive, calloused hand dwarfed mine. I could feel the blistering heat radiating from his knuckles, just millimeters away from my own skin.

I looked up in surprise. His ice-blue eyes were darkened, swirling with an intense, suffocating heat that violently contradicted his cold exterior. We were standing so close I could see the slight pulse ticking at the base of his strong jaw.

He was a dominant Alpha; I was the Omega intended for his nephew. The taboo of our proximity hung heavy and electric in the cedar-scented air.

He wanted to touch me. I could see it in the rigid tension of his shoulders, in the way his gaze dropped once more to my lips.

Then, as if burned, his jaw clenched hard. The iron control of the Direwolf Commander slammed back into place.

He abruptly released his grip, his calloused fingertips brushing agonizingly slow against the sensitive skin of my knuckles as he pulled away. A jolt of electricity, sharp and startling, shot up my arm, making my breath hitch.

Gideon took a deliberate step back, putting a safe, professional distance between us.

"Drink," he commanded, his voice a fraction rougher, huskier than before. "The Matriarch is waiting. It is time for your judgment."

I brought the tea to my lips, the porcelain clinking faintly against my teeth because my hands were trembling. The real battle with the Matriarch was about to begin, but as I looked at the imposing Commander staring into the fireplace, I realized I had just initiated a much more dangerous game.
