Chapter 1 Bad Mommy

Lucille's POV

I was finally let out of the hospital, ready to reunite with my family. I glanced down at the cake on my lap, and my lips curled into a smile.

The cake was for my son, he was five years old today. I had missed moments with him because of my illness, but I wasn't going to miss this one.

My son and husband would be so surprised to see me. I pictured their expressions, and I chuckled softly.

"We are here, Ma'am," the cab driver said, pulling me from my thoughts.

The cab came to a halt, and I fished some cash from my bag before stepping out of the car. I paid the driver and glanced at my house. It looked so familiar and warm. It hadn't changed one bit.

With a warm smile, I walked to the gate and once I passed through, I approached my house excitedly, but the sight that greeted me upon entering made me cold.

I saw my son and my husband standing close to a cake, with someone I hadn't expected.

Vanessa. My ex-best friend.

She wasn't my friend anymore because of what she did to me. This woman had been attempting to ruin my life for twenty years now. Why was she here again? Why did my family look so happy around her?

My heart sank as their birthday song echoed in my ears. They hadn't even noticed me.

"Happy birthday, Liam," Vanessa cooed, feeding my son his cake.

I felt so upset. That should be me.

"Thank you," Liam giggled as she kissed his cheeks.

The cake trembled in my hands as I saw the affection my son showed her. But the worst part was when she straightened herself to kiss my husband, Brandon.

"Vanessa!" I yelled, and she pulled away.

"How dare you?!" I snapped, storming towards them.

I placed the cake on the table and shoved her away from Brandon.

"Get away from him!" I yelled, glaring at her. "What the hell are you doing here? Didn't I warn you never to get close to me or my family again?"

"Lucille, relax, I just came to fill the void of your absence and help your family cope," She said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"By kissing my husband?" I shouted, my frail body trembling with rage. "You're completely insane, Vanessa!"

"Lucille, stop this, you're frightening the poor child," She faked concern, pulling my son close to her.

"Haven't you done enough? Stealing two of my husbands hasn't sufficed?" I yelled, my voice shaking and my heart quivering.

Over the years, Vanessa had seduced my former husbands, leading them to divorce me. She hadn't spared one.

"Lucille, you need to calm down, you're ruining your son's birthday," She said calmly, as if she wasn't the one trying to take my family away from me.

"Let go of my son," I sneered and attempted to pull my child from her, but Liam pushed my hand off.

"Mommy, I don't want her," He cried, wrapping his hand around Vanessa's waist.

An intense pain rippled through my heart. Did my son just call her...Mommy? What the hell was happening?

"Baby..." I called softly, but he clung to her. "I'm your Mommy," I said, tears pooling in my eyes.

"Lucille, stop all this. You're creating a scene," Brandon said, grabbing my arm and pulling me back.

"Let go of me!" I cried, yanking my arm out of his grip.

"Brandon, how could you do this to me? You know how much time..."

I swallowed hard, unable to finish my sentence. I didn't have much time left. I had a terminal disease that had taken so much from me. I just wanted to spend my remaining days with my family.

"Why are you doing this to me?" I asked, my tears spilling. "Is this why you haven't been visiting?!" My voice hitched, my frail body shaking.

"You don't look good. You should go back to the hospital, where you belong," He uttered, his voice cold, void of remorse.

Gasps left my lips at his words, and tears streamed down my face uncontrollably.

"I thought you were different."

When I met Brandon, he was great to me, and when I married him, he was even better. I told him about my ordeal with Vanessa and my previous husbands and he treated me so good, just to make me trust him. Our marriage for five years had been exceptional unlike my previous marriages where I only spent one year each.

But then, Vanessa appeared.

"You should have stayed in the hospital," He added, dismissing my feelings.

I couldn't even recognize him anymore.

I turned to my son again, but he glared at me.

"Brandon, you know I'm your mother, not this woman. Vanessa is bad-"

"Liar!" He interrupted with a yell.

I flinched, surprised by the hatred that laced his voice.

"You're the bad one here. You're a bad mommy, always in the hospital to escape your duties!"

His words felt so painful because I hadn't spent my time in the hospital by choice. I just wanted to live longer for him.

"Baby, I know you're upset with me, but Mommy can explain," I sobbed. I reached for the cake and brought it close to him.

"I came today, and I'm not leaving again...I promise..."

"You're just a liar. Go away!" He snapped.

"Brandon, she's still your mommy. Don't speak so harshly to her," Vanessa intervened, pretending to be good.

"No, she's no longer my mommy. You're my mommy now," He smiled, hugging her.

My eyes tightened as tears rushed from them. I could feel my heart-shattering. She must have fed him with so many lies against me. My son used to be so eager to have me back. She had turned him against me.

I fluttered my eyes and pressed forward angrily, "Get away from him!"

I shoved her away from him, but the next thing that happened shocked me.

My son suddenly pushed me with a surprising force, and because of my frail weight due to my illness, I fell hard to the floor.

"Ow!" I whimpered as I landed with a thud, the cake smashing to pieces beside me.

I glanced at my son in complete shock.

"Don't hurt my mommy," He pouted and went to hold her again.

My body trembled as I burst into tears, devastated.

"Grab on," I suddenly heard, and looked up to see Vanessa stretching a hand to me.

She slowly leaned in close, and whispered with a devilish smile, "Remember? I said I was going to take everything from you."

My body froze and I let out a gasp. This bitch was crazy and she was really after my life.

"You dare! You evil bitch!" I screamed as I grabbed onto her shoulders and was about to draw her down when Brandon quickly saved her from me.

"Oh stop it!" Brandon snapped. He put Vanessa behind him quickly.

"You're jealous and it's pathetic. I've finally realized how worthless you are. I would choose her any day over an evil and awful woman like you."

I gasped at his comment. How was I evil? What was he talking about?

"Evil? How?" I questioned, my voice breaking in shock. "Did she tell you more lies? Brandon, we've been married for five years. I understand why Liam as a child might believe her, but you-"

"Why wouldn't I believe her?" He interrupted. "You killed your own mother. How do I know you wouldn't do worse to us?"

His words stung me so deeply, dragging out buried and painful memories within me.

Tears welled up in my eyes as I recalled my mother. She was an awesome woman, smart and wealthy. But she was also sick like me. That fateful day, I was with this same devil called Vanessa when I gave my mom her medicine.

I didn't know how it happened, all of a sudden, my mom started to convulse and she died as a result of an overdose. Everything happened like a blur but one thing I remembered was that Vanessa was with me that night. This woman had caused me so much harm. I regretted the day I met her.

"How could you be so wicked to end your mother's life for her money?" Brandon said, staring at me in irritation.

I never told Brandon the true reason for my mother's death, so Vanessa must have told him lies.

"I don't even trust you now, and I never will," Brandon said coldly. "I do not want someone so dangerous around myself or my son."

"Brandon, that's not what happened...I..."

Before I could finish, a sharp cry filled the air. My heart stopped as I turned to see Liam clutching his stomach and collapsing on the floor.

"Liam," I cried, dropping me to my knees and pulling him into my arms. "What's wrong, baby?"

"It hurts," He sobbed, his small hand clutching his stomach. " My stomach hurts."

"Son, what is it?" Brandon came to my side. "Why does your stomach hurt?"

"Mommy's cake is poisoned," He sobbed, squirming in my arms.

Chapter 2 My Wedding Day

Lucille's POV

My eyes widened as I looked up at Vanessa. Her face paled slightly, but she quickly recovered.

"Which mommy?" Brandon asked.

"Do you really need to ask?" I yelled, glaring at Vanessa. "She must have poisoned him. She's nothing but bad news."

"Liam, which mommy?" He persisted.

Liam pointed at me, and my heart dropped.

"I ate some of Mommy's cake while you were...fighting," He whimpered.

"There's no poison in the cake," I protested, panic gripping me. "I made it myself at the hospital's bakery. There's nothing he's allergic to in the cake!"

"What did you add into the cake?" Vanessa spat, her tone accusing. "Did you want to hurt him, so he could join you at the hospital?"

"Of course not!" I spat, desperation choking my words. "I would never do anything to hurt my child."

But Brandon wasn't listening.

"Give him to me!" Brandon snarled, pulling him away from my hands.

"If anything happens to my son," He sneered. "I'll make sure you spend the rest of your miserable life behind bars!"

As he rushed out of the mansion with Liam cradled in his arms, Vanessa tried to follow. But I grabbed her wrist, stopping her in her tracks.

She fed him a cake, what if that cake was poisoned. I would die if anything happened to my child.

"What did you do to my son?" I demanded, angrily.

With a smirk, she faced me, "We can never tell, Lucille. Maybe you will end up killing your son like you did to your mother."

"What did you just say?" I gasped, my eyes widening in shock.

"You heard me right," She scoffed, yanking her hand out of my grip.

"Did you..." I trailed off as realization hit me like a ton of bricks.

Vanessa was there with me the day my mother died. I could have sworn that I gave her the right dose, but the autopsy results made me think otherwise.

"You killed her?"

She burst into a sick laugh. Fresh tears filled my eyes as her laughter sent chills down my spine.

"It took you so long to figure it out," She chuckled darkly.

Anger surged through me, my blood boiling over. Without thinking, I slammed my fist into her face.

"You bitch!" I yelled, my breathing heavy and ragged. "You killed my mother! How could you!"

I struck her again, venting all my years of guilt and anger. For so long, I had felt guilty about my mother's death, believing it was my fault.

"You are so evil, " I screamed, my voice cracking. "You deserve to rot in hell. I'm not going to let-"

Before I could finish, I felt a brutal and sudden shove. My body flew backward and crashed into the glass table. Pain rippled through me as shards of glass pierced into my body and head.

I landed on the cold floor, helplessly. Blood trickled from my head, and my body refused to move and tears slipped out of my eyes as realization of my helplessness hit me.

"You're the one who's meant to rot in hell, not me," She said, her voice dripping with hate.

She knelt beside me, her face twisted with spite. I tried to call for help, to move, to do something, but my body wouldn't respond.

"But before you die, let me tell you how I killed your mother," She sneered, leaning closer. "When you gave her that first dose, all I had to do was get close and inject her with something else. I watched her die with a smile on my face."

Her words sent a million daggers into my heart.

"I just hated your perfect relationship with her. I didn't even have a mother to call my own," She spat, her voice laced with bitterness.

"I loved watching you drift away from your family. Why would someone like you, a worthless wretch, get so much love?" She hissed, grabbing my chin.

"And now, I'm going after that little brat of yours. I'm going to kill Liam, and there's nothing you can do about it," She laughed evilly.

My son. My precious Liam. I couldn't let her hurt him. But what could I do? I had already lost so much to her. From when I was ten till now I was thirty, she had been like a shadow that stole everything from me.

Now, I couldn't even my protect my own child.

"Just die, Lucille." She said coldly, pressing her hand against my nose.

The little air I had was cut off. I felt the cold grip of death tightening around me. I began wishing for a second chance. A chance to protect everything I had left. A chance for revenge.

__

My eyes suddenly snapped open, widening in shock as Brandon's lips moved closer to mine.

Irritated, I stepped back aprubtly. I glanced around confusedly and realized I was in a church.

How was I here? The last thing I remembered was lying in my own pool of blood. I was dying...wasn't I?

"Baby, what's wrong?" Brandon's voice pulled me out of my thoughts.

I looked at Brandon and noticed he was in a familiar wedding suit. I shifted my gaze around, and there was Brandon's parents and other guests, sitting in the exact positions they were on our wedding day.

"Lucille," The priest called softly. "Please kiss the groom."

Groom? My heart raced. What was going on?

I looked down at myself and froze. I was in a white wedding dress, holding a bouquet.

This was my wedding day.

Chapter 3 I Want A Divorce

Lucille's POV

A scream tore from my throat as I threw the bouquet on the floor and ran down the aisle.

I heard whispers and voices calling my name, but I couldn't stop. Panic gripped me and tears filled my eyes.

"What is happening?" I whispered to myself, shaking uncontrollably. "I was dead."

My escape ended abruptly as I bumped into something hard. I whimpered, stumbling back before looking up and freezing.

Before me was Martin, my first husband, one of the wealthiest CEOs in the country.

"My, my...look who's running from her own wedding," I heard a familiar voice, and turned to see Kent, my second husband, an ambitious real estate mogul.

They were both staring at me with an unsettling intensity.

"Why are you..."

"You're looking hotter than ever," Martin whispered, trailing his fingertips on my bare shoulder.

I felt chills through my body, and stepped back, clearly uncomfortable.

They were at my wedding before, because they were invited by Brandon's rich parents who didn't know about my past marriages. This seemed like a cruel repetition. Everything was the same. Was this a second like? Was I twenty-five again?

Well, everything pointed to that.

"Why are you out here alone?" Kent demanded, suddenly pulling me to himself. "Were you so eager to see us?"

"Let me go!" I ripped his hand off my waist stepping back.

They weren't like this in my past wedding, why were they doing this?

"You aren't even with a bouquet. Don't tell me you ran away from your third husband?" Martin chuckled, his voice dark and charming as ever.

"None of your business!" I spat, glaring at him.

"Hmm... that means something is going on, isn't it?" He snarled, running his fingers on my skin again.

"Stop it!" I smacked his hand, but he simply flashed a smirk at me.

Kent was doing the same. What was going on with both of them?

"Lucille!!!" I heard my mother-in-law's yell.

I turned to see her and Brandon, along with my father-in-law, rushing out of the church.

"Why did you run out like that?" She questioned, her voice tinged with anger.

"Baby, what's wrong?" Brandon asked, reaching out to me.

I quickly stepped away, disgusted by him. He had abandoned me in my past life when I needed him the most. I wasn't going to fall for his tricks again. I was going to make him and Vanessa pay.

"Lucille, why are you acting-"

"I want a divorce," I spat, sharply interrupting him.

"What did you just say?" Brandon gasped, his eyes widening in shock.

"I want a divorce," I said, my tone biting.

"What are you saying? We just got married," He said, his voice laced with confusion.

"That doesn't matter," I shrugged my shoulders nonchalantly. "I made a mistake, and I want to correct it. Let's end this charade."

I hated the fact that I had to have a second life as his wife. Why couldn't I be reborn at the point my mother was still alive? I would have protected her better.

"How can you call our marriage a mistake? We did so much to get to this point," He spat, anger creeping onto his voice. "Why are you trying to ruin our efforts? What is wrong with you?"

"There is nothing wrong with me," I argued. "I want a divorce, and that's final. Nothing you say will change my mind."

"We accepted you despite your forgotten status!" His mother spat, rebuking me like she always did. "How dare you disgrace us in this manner?"

"Well, you don't have to stoop low to my forgotten status anymore." I added, glaring at them. "I would rather die than spend another second with all of you."

"You're crazy," Brandon sneered.

"No, I'm not!" I snapped, irritation in my voice.

I was insane when I allowed myself to be fooled by him. Not again.

"You'll hear from my lawyer soon," I muttered, and began walking away from there.

As Brandon attempted to follow me, I began running.

"Lucille, where are you going?" Brandon yelled, chasing after me. "Come back here, we are not done talking."

I could hear his loud footsteps, but I didn't stop. I ran faster and faster until I looked back, and didn't see him behind.

I slowed down, trying to catch my breath.

I glanced around for somewhere to sit, and I spotted a bench underneath a tree.

I released my dress, and walked exhaustedly to it. As I sat, the memories of the past suddenly flooded my mind.

"Liam..." I muttered, fresh tears welling in my eyes.

My little baby wasn't in this life, and I wouldn't have him again. I wouldn't be able to see my lovely boy.

I suddenly wish that I had this chance when he was born. I just wanted to hold him again and hear him call me, Mommy.

"My baby," I sobbed, my chest tightening in pain. He was the only one I wanted to see so badly and tell him how much I loved him.

"God." I cried, my voice faltering with emotions. "How am I going to move on from here?"

"My family wants nothing to do with me," I choked out through a sob. "They hate me. I have no one to turn to. have nothing to truly call my own."

At this time, I was dependent on Brandon for almost everything. I trusted him like a complete fool.

"Damn him!" I spat.

"Look who's here?" I heard a familiar voice, taunting and sharper than ever.

I turned to it's direction and saw Vanessa approaching me. She had on the same white gown she wore in my past life. She was always trying to steal attention from me.

"Aren't you ashamed of yourself for sitting here in the open after running out of the church like a little brat?" She mocked.

Her voice made my skin crawl, every part of me urged to rip her to shreds. The memories of how she killed me made me angrier with each word that escaped her lips.

"You should go hide in shame for your behavior-"

"Shut up!" I snapped, cutting her off. "I'm happy that the wedding isn't holding. I don't have to sleep with that bastard. You can have him to yourself like you've had the others...my leftovers."

My words stung her. Her face paled, and she grew angry.

"Leftovers?" She gasped.

I should kill her, but I had to remain calm and plan my revenge. Just as she ruined my life, I would make her life miserable bit by bit.

"Isn't that what you're always after?" I affronted, letting out a mocking laugh.

I wiped away my tears, and stood up to her. She looked taken aback because I had hardly challenged her before.

"All you do is pick up the dirt in my life, and that dirt called Brandon, you can have him to yourself," I spat, my voice dripping with venom. "You're so pathetic...always the second choice."

I saw her fists clench and her teeth grit.

"Shut up," She said, her voice trembling.

"You're always the other choice...no...you're never a choice, but somehow you use your disgusting body to get what you want," I insulted, looking at her with disgust in my eyes.

"That's all they want you for. This is all you can offer -"

She raised her hand to slap me, but my words made her hand freeze in the air.

"Touch me, and I'll make you regret it," I said, hatefully. "I'll be back to destroy you, piece of trash."

"Vanessa, I'll give your life a purpose..." I paused. "...called misery. You'll pay for everything you did to me."

Unable to stand her face any longer, I walked away. She was going to pay dearly for killing my poor mother, Liam and taking everything important to me. She would regret it.

Tears streamed down my face as I vowed deep in my heart to make her pay dearly for every one of her crimes.

"Where should I go now?" I suddenly asked myself, glancing at the other side of the road. "Maybe I should just sit in that library..."

As I attempted crossing the road, I heard the loud screeching of a car. Darting my gaze at the speeding car, I beheld Vanessa inside with a wicked grin.

Before I could get away and save myself, the cold metal of the car slammed into my body.
