Chapter 1 Sophia.

SOPHIA'S POV.

I heaved a heavy sigh as I stood rooted outside in front of the tall building that contains a lot of stories.

People buzzed past me in numbers, but I paid no attention to them as my eyes were fixed on the huge sign above that reads 'REVVED AUTOMOTIVE' in bold letters.

I held back a shriek as I realized that I would be an employee of this illustrious company, also known as the best of the best, starting today.

Of course, this is more than luck for me, it's a blessing.

I c lapse my hand together and closed my eyes smiling brightly, "father above, I thank you for giving me this opportunity. I pray that nothing but good luck follows me around today. Amen." and I made the sign of the cross.

Yup, I am deeply religious. I grew up in a catholic orphanage, so it was no surprise that I turned out this way.

As a poor orphan who had no one, I decided to make Jesus my best friend, and so far that has turned out great for me.

With one last encouraging sigh, I marched towards the polished glass doors which serve as the entry to the building. I was more than ready to start the day.

I got the job through my determination , and I sure hope that determination is going to win me more good luck.

Stepping into the company floors was like stepping into a whole new world. A better word for it is heaven.

The reception area was extremely clean and uncluttered. I could even see a blurry image of my reflection on the marble floor. It was like walking on glass and for a moment, I considered being careful on my feet, by walking very slow and carefully, but that would only make me look foolish, so I banished the idea.

The big banner glued to the wall right above the receptionist counter quickly caught my eyes. It was a picture of Lucas Sullivan; the president of Revved Automotive. He looks extremely hot in a black leather jacket and his silk black hair styled like those high school bad boys we see in movies.

He was leaning against sleek black spot car to match his outfit of black leather jacket, skinny jeans and boots, all black. Below was written the company's motto 'Next Level Automotive Excellence'

I blushed involuntarily at the sight of the banner. I'll admit that I have had a big crush on Lucas Sullivan ever since I came across his photos on the internet, and he is one of the reasons I fought tooth and nails to get a job at Revved Automotive.

Just a glimpse of his face everyday was enough for me to have a good night sleep.

With some effort, I tore my face away from the banner and approached the receptionist counter. The blond haired lady behind the counter stared at me with curious eyes.

"Can I help you?" She asked in a professional tone.

A bit intimidated, I cleared my throat before answering, "My name is Sophia Johnson. I passed your online interview a few weeks ago and I was told to report for work today."

"Oh yes, Sophia Johnson!" she comprehended. "You're almost twenty minutes early." she pulled out a medium size piece of paper "This is a map of the company's layout. Just find the GAM department. That's your office."

"Thank you." I gratefully took the map and went on my way after casting one more longing glance at the banner of Lucas Sullivan.

I wonder if I'll get to see him today.

Following the directions of the map, I easily found the GAM department, which was located on the second floor of the building.

A tall dark skinned man welcomed me, and I came to realize that he is the manager of the department. He was super nice and he even commended me on my punctuality. I instantly knew that I had nothing to worry about.

I was giving the company's ID and also shown to my desk which was beside an Asian looking guy who had his hair dyed a bright blue and the girl in front of my desk was a red haired with nerd glasses and super nice, but the Asian dude was annoying and quite commanding.

For the past minutes, all he did was talk my head off and I honestly felt like snapping his neck. (Forgive me Jesus).

"Say, new girl," he began after a second of keeping his mouth shut, "Why don't you get us all some coffee. Since you are new, it officially makes you the youngest."

He grinned at me and I forced a smile, "sure." I stood up quickly, taking it as an opportunity not to see his annoying face again, even for a second. So far, he is the only bad news about my job and I think he is honestly not worth feeling bad about taking the job.

I got six coffees for the six people in my department including myself of course, and I headed back to the department only to bump into someone on my way there.

The force of the bumping caused the very hot coffee to pour on my hand a little, and I dropped them all at the pain with a slight 'ouch'.

I lifted up my head and for a moment, I completely lost my breath.

The person standing before me was none other than Lucas Sullivan. His intense grey eyes also stared straight at me. I had to force myself to say something, an apology at least, but I could barely even breath properly.

His grey gaze fell on my burnt hand and to my shock, he gently took them in his.

"I think the coffee was too hot. It gave you a bruise." He stared at me again, "do you have anything to put on it?"

I was speechless, staring at him stupefied and he was also staring at me, waiting for an answer. That was the moment I came back to my senses.

"I-I-I am fine. I-I-It doesn't even hurt." I quickly pulled my hand away from his hold, chuckling awkwardly at my nervous stupidity.

I could still feel the pressure of his hand on mine and it left butterflies in my stomach.

With a low sigh, he said "I am sorry. It is actually my fault for not paying attention to where I am going. Please try to get it treated so it won't get infected." He glance behind him at the receptionist and said, "Miss Santiago, can you please get someone to clean this up?"

"Right away sir," she replied and without missing a beat, pulled out her telephone.

Lucas turned to me and smiled politely, "sorry again." He gave me a formal nod and walked away.

My heart was still beating rapidly as I stared after him with heart eyes. I can't believe he is even more of an angel in person. Most boss do not even apologize or know the mane of a mere receptionist.

Oh Lucas Sullivan!

I just fell in love with him all over again.

Chapter 2 Lucas.

LUCAS POV.

My mind was elsewhere even as the meeting in front of me was going on. The brown haired beauty who I bumped into at the reception floor was unfamiliar to me. It was the first time I am ever seeing such a unique face.

Although her pink blouse was old and plain, and her long flare skirt wrinkled and unattractive, with her brown hair in a messy bun, she would still stand out among millions of other girls.

She stared at me with those captivating big brown eyes of hers, and it made something in my chest grow warm.

"Boss, are you even listening?" Oliver, my secretary asked with raised brows.

I came back to my senses and stared at him. All the important men in suits stared at me like I was some kind of alien.

I cleared my throat and adjusted on my seat. "Of course I am listening." They didn't make a move to continue the conversation and so I asked unsure, "what were we saying again?"

Oliver rolled his eyes at me, and I know it's unusual for a secretary to be that way to his boss, but Oliver and I are good friends.

"Yet you said you were listening." He faced the men in suit, "I'm sorry gentlemen. I think it's best we postpone the meeting for today."

The men nodded and packed up their things before leaving. Oliver faced me squarely, his dark brown gaze squinting and suspicious "alright spit it out man. In case you didn't notice, you were sighing and smiling through the meeting, and it was making the men uncomfortable.

"I did that?" I asked without care, "I didn't even notice."

"Leave that!" he said brushing off the topic with a wave of his hand. "What's really the problem? Why are you in such deep thoughts with smiles and sighs?"

I thought about the pretty girl at the receptionist floor and I smiled again. "I met someone I like today. I haven't been able to get her out of my mind since then."

Oliver nodded slowly with a teasing smile, "so your day dreaming is because of a woman?" It was both a question and a statement at the same time.

I shrugged, "I won't deny it."

"So who is she?" He asked in excitement. I knew why he was so excited. It's because I rarely had interest in women. I have only dated two women in my life even though a lot of them throw themselves at me. To me I've not yet found 'the one'.

I sighed in disappointment, "I was in a hurry to get to the meeting, so I didn't really get a name, but she was holding some coffee cups. I think she also had the company's ID. That must mean she is a new employee.

"It Won't be hard to find her then. But if it turns out that she is not an employee, then that's hard luck for you man. You should have asked for her name."

"I told you I was in a hurry for the meeting."

"And you didn't even pay attention in the meeting." He tsked at me. "High chances are, she's a new employee, and I'm going to help you find her"

"Please do," I encouraged "I really want to see her again."

I have no doubt that, even in my dreams, those cute innocent brown eyes would surely haunt me.

****

Thankfully, we did find my love at first sight. Her name is Sophia Johnson and she recently got employed after an online interview to the GAM department.

Sophia.

Even her name sounds sweet to my ears.

Oliver had advised me to go find her at her at her department today, and I was unsure of how to go about it.

Should I just go without a reason? She would surely want to know why I came to see her.

Moreover, I don't usually visit the department in the company. My employees would wonder why I did.

A light bulb clicked in my head, and I realized a way out.

Yesterday, I had accidentally poured hot coffee on her hand. Not me precisely but I was the cause. The hot coffee gave her a bruise. I'll use my concern as an excuse to see her again.

With one last encouragement from Oliver, I left for the GAM department.

As expected, the employees there were shocked to see me. Even the manager had to run out of his office in fear. "S-Sir is there a problem? It's unusual for you to come here yourself"

"Ah yes," I answered, looking around for the brown haired lady. All the employees had stood up in shock and respect at the sight of me, but she wasn't among them. "Where is Miss Sophia?"

Their eyes widened, and for a moment, no one said anything. Then I heard and Asian looking guy say, "she just started working here and it seems like she got herself in trouble already."

I totally ignored that and waited for an answer from the manager.

"She went to get us coffee sir."

"Why didn't you send someone else to get the coffee? Miss Sophia has a burn on her hand. She shouldn't be getting you guys coffee for the time being." The words just flowed freely from my mouth and it left the employees speechless.

The manager was flustered, "Sir, I-I didn't know she had a burn. She didn't complain nor refuse when we asked her to..."

The door opened and the topic of our conversation walked in, instantly catching my eyes.

Today she was wearing a plain black skirt that came all the way to her ankle. Her white blouse was similar to the one she wore yesterday, old and plain, and her hair was in the same messy bun.

Her eyes widen at the sight of me. I wasn't even thinking when I walked towards her and snatched the cups from her. I placed them on a random desk and took her hands in mine. I studied her burnt hand with concentration, seeing that the burn was now turning blue.

"Why did you stress your hands after yesterday? someone else should have gotten the coffee."

No one said a word. Everyone just stood there staring at me with wide eyes. Our position was one to talk. There I stood with Sophia's hand in mine, studying it with concern and care. "I told you to apply something on it but you didn't listen."

Sophia who was starting to recover from her shock tried to pull her hand away, but I held on tightly to it. "I-I actually forgot," she said.

I sighed and moved my attention to her manager, "from now on, someone else should get you guys coffee. It mustn't be her."

"But I don't mind..."

"Come with me." I cut her off and pulled her along with me out of the department.

We took the elevator and eventually got to my office. Thankfully, there was a balm in one of my drawers. I sat her down on the office sofa and gently applied it.

"Next time, be careful with yourself and you should think about your health too. How could you forget to apply something on the burn? It could have gotten infected."

All was silent and I stared at her in wonder only to find her watching me with a smile. Her beautiful smile turned my brain to mush.

"You are nicer than I expected." she began in a shy tone, "I mean, you only met me yesterday and you care this much about my health. Not everyone is like that."

It was a relief that she didn't think I was weird or anything like that. I thought about telling her that I liked her, but it would be too soon. Let me wait a bit."

"Well, it's kind of my fault that you got hurt in the first place," I said as an explanation.

"It's not really your fault, but it's sweet that you think so." She pulled her small hand out of my hold and stood up. "Thank you sir, for your care and concern, but I think I have to return to work now. I don't want anyone thinking that I am getting special treatment." she smiled at me and made her way out of the office.

My eyes followed her all the while until she was out of my office entirely.

Of course I am giving her special treatment because she is special to me. Who cares what everyone else thinks?

Chapter 3 Sophia.

SOPHIA'S POV.

It didn't take long for me to become the talk of the company. My red-haired desk mate, Lisa, told me that the Asian dude; whose name I still don't know, has a habit of gossiping, and now everyone point and stared at me wherever I go in the company.

The ladies even gave me nasty looks. Not that it offends me, it just makes me feel uncomfortable.

However, three days passed without a word from Lucas and the buzz was finally dying down. It made me relieved and sad at the same time. Relived because everyone's attention was no longer on me, and sad because I secretly hoped that Lucas might have developed some kind of interest in me.

I looked down at my 'nun' skirt and plain white blouse, and I scoffed at myself.

Who would develop interest in someone as ugly and unattractive as me? Certainly not Lucas Sullivan.

Even as I said that, a sleek black SUV stopped right in front of me, and the tinted windows rolled themselves down to reveal the object of my thoughts. Lucas Sullivan in all his handsome glory.

"Let me give you a ride home Sophia," he offered.

My eyes widen involuntarily and I was lost for words. Some of the other employees were also leaving in that moment and they were paying attention to us.

This would only stir up more hatred towards me.

"I-It's fine sir. I'll just take a taxi."

"Save your money and get in Sophia. I insist." I hesitated, glancing at some of the employees who had stopped to stare. They were whispering to themselves. "I'm waiting," Lucas reminded gently, but there was a bit of impatience in his tone.

Timidly, I climbed unto the passenger side of the car, and Lucas leaned towards me to help me fix my seat belt. My heart was beating painfully in my chest as I caught a whiff of his expensive cologne.

It was nice, but strawberry is my favorite scent.

After adjusting my seat belt to his satisfaction, he settled oh his seat and smiled at me, "so, what's your home address?"

Without missing a beat, I ratted it out to him and he punch it into the GPS before zooming off.

For a second, there was an awkward silence in the car, but Lucas broke it. "So Sophia, how do you like your job so far?"

I gulped down my nerves, "it's great. I'm actually enjoying myself."

He gave me a sideways glance, "are you sure? There is no discomfort in any direction I suppose?"

I thought about the annoying Asian dude, but decided that he was not worth mentioning to Lucas. "No, there is no area that makes me uncomfortable."

Silence fell again, and neither of us seem to know what to do to fill the silence. Lucas was the one who spoke again, "how is your hand?" He asked in concern, "I have been so busy that I couldn't find time to come check up on you."

I stared down at the fading bruise, "It's fine. You shouldn't worry about it anymore, though I really appreciate your kindness and concern."

He nodded at me, and soon we arrived at my place. I instantly felt ashamed at the old and worn apartment building that seem to be falling apart.

The paints were peeling off with most part broken, but it was the cheapest I could find in New York. I already have plans to move after getting my first paycheck anyway.

I got down from the car and thanked my boss, "thank you so much sir. I really appreciate your help."

He didn't reply and just kept staring fixedly at me, and it made me a bit self conscious.

Was he judging me?

As I turned to go, he spoke quickly, "aren't you going to invite me in for some coffee or tea Sophia?"

My heart leaped at the informal way he always says my name. "D-do you want to come in?" I couldn't help asking. Someone like him wouldn't want to come into a place like this.

He shrugged, "well, I won't mind if you invite me in."

I rubbed the back of my neck shyly. I have never invited a man into my house, but this is Lucas Sullivan we are talking about.

"If you don't mind, then you are invited to come in sir."

He smiled, and I swear, he looks a million times more handsome than usual.

He got down from his car and I had to admit, he looks mighty fine in his all black suit. I figured that maybe black is his favorite color.

"Lead the way Sophia."

I blushed shyly, a bit ashamed at my thoughts about him. "S-sure sir." I walked ahead of him, heading for the entry.

Lucas followed behind me and it made me nervous.

I wonder what he must be thinking. Was he disgusted at me for living in a place like this? I quickly shook away the thought. Lucas isn't like that.

The inside of the apartment building was even worst than the outside. The lobby at the first floor was extremely dirty, and there were disgusting stains on the wall, because most of the occupants couldn't make it outside to throw their refuse in the trash can, so they use the lobby as a refuse dump.

Lucas and I had to walk carefully to avoid stepping on dirt. Sometimes I do clean up the place myself, but it's very tiring, so I rarely do it.

"I'm sorry about this sir," I apologized feeling very embarrassed at the state of the place.

Lucas shook his head, "it's fine Sophia."

The elevator in the building was broken, so we had no choice but to take the stairs to the fifth floor. I kept apologizing because I knew Lucas was uncomfortable in his surrounding even though he tries to hide it.

Eventually, we arrived at my room. My neighbor was a loud mouthed drunk, and I was glad he wasn't home today.

I took out my key and unlocked the door to my apartment. I walked in and held it open for Lucas to come in as well. He walked in past me, looking around as I shut the door behind him.

My room was a simple self contain with a bedroom, a kitchen on the side and a bathroom on the other side. There was a small book shelve beside my bed with neatly arranged books, and my bed was dressed in neat pink sheets.

Thank God I took time to clean up today before going to work.

"Nice place," Lucas commented and walked deeper into the room. He casually took a seat on my bed, because there was no seat in my room.

"Thanks." I walked closer to my bed and pulled off my bag, placing it on the bed far from where Lucas sat. "I'll just make you some coffee really quick."

"What's the hurry? I want us to talk a little." He patted the space beside him, silently asking me to sit down. Timidly, I sat, "do you live alone?" He asked gently, but my eyes remained glued to the floor and my hands fidgeting.

"Y-Yes sir. I am an orphan. I grew up in an orphanage. I don't have any relatives or friends."

He hesitated for a moment, and I wondered what he was thinking. Then he asked again, "What about a boyfriend?"

The question got me giggling, "I'm sorry sir, but your question was a bit funny to me. Who would want to date someone plain and ugly like me?"

"Don't call yourself ugly Sophia. You are anything but ugly." I lifted my head and stared into his intense grey eyes that were also staring back at me. They look so sincere. "You are beautiful" he added softly. My heart pounded in my chest, butterflies danced in my stomach and I suddenly found it difficult to breath.

I looked away from him bashfully, but he grabbed my jaw gently and tilted my head to stare at him again.

"I like you Sophia. I want to be your boyfriend, if you'll let me."

My heart exploded in my chest.

What the hell?! Lucas Sullivan just told me that he likes me, and it's just my fifth day of working in the company.

Is this a dream? Jesus please tell me its not.

"I'll give you tonight to think about it. Tell me your answer tomorrow." With that, he leaned forward and kissed me gently on the lips.

It was a short and simple kiss, a peck even, but it was my first kiss and it still left my heart throwing somersaults in his chest.

That night, alone in my room, I thought about it. He likes me and I like him a lot too. So what's there to think about?
