Violet's POV
My eyes pleaded with my stepfather as I struggled to breathe. "Please, Father, the antidote. I need it. I don't want to die." My voice was barely a whisper, and my body was trembling with each cough.
His gaze remained fixed on his painting, his brushstrokes steady and calm. "I don't care if you die now, Violet. It won't affect my pack." His words were cold as usual.
My hand clutched my chest, and my coughing was growing more intense. I felt my strength fading. I was in this condition because of my stepsister, Jackie, who was suffering from unbearable pain.
I had the power to absorb and heal others' pain, but each time I used my power, it weakened me because my wolf wasn't out fully. This time I had tried to heal her, but I got infected instead.
The healer had made an antidote, but my stepfather refused to give it to me. He didn't care that I was suffering or that my life force was dwindling, as long as his daughter was okay.
"I'll do anything, Father-anything," I begged, my tears dropping nonstop. "Just please, give me the antidote."
"Anything?" he repeated, his voice low and menacing. "Anything at all." I nodded, my coughing subsiding into weak gasps, knowing fully well that his demands could be crazy.
He liked it when I begged and when I acknowledged his power over my life. The room was silent; my stepfather's eyes never left mine as he smirked, his gaze piercing and cruel.
Then he picked up his phone and made a phone call. It wasn't even up to two minutes before a man walked into the room and handed him a box and a file. "Here's the antidote, once you accept my condition."
"What do you want me to do?" I whispered, getting weaker with every passing minute. "You'd have to serve at the Alpha's gathering tonight without any mistakes." He said, walking to me with the antidote.
I had done all manner of jobs in this pack after the death of my mother, the Luna of the Moonlight Pack, and my twin sister, whom they told me, died without even getting to see her body for the last time.
This couldn't be the only thing he wanted me to do. I knew there was something more to it. "Is that it?" I asked, trembling as he stood over me.
"No, darling, my friend and business partner would be present at the Alpha's gathering. We have a contract to sign, so you'd be sent to his room as a gift and to make sure he signs this contract without reading it."
"And if he doesn't enjoy you enough to sign the contract, consider yourself in great trouble," he muttered. I was shocked to the core. How can this man do such a horrible thing to me?
He was sending me to his friend, who was twice my age, just for a contract. "And what if he refuses to sign the documents afterward?" My voice trembled. He scoffed, then smiled, raising his hands and cupping my pale cheeks with them.
"One single slip from you, Violet; trust me, I'd make sure I sell you to the ruthless Alpha of the Blood Moon pack; after all, you're useless in this pack anyway."
Those were his last words as he threw the antidote at me before storming out of the room with his shoulders high and a confident smile on his face. I wondered what was in that document and why he sent me to make his friend sign it.
I pushed the thought aside and hurriedly grabbed the antidote, gulping it down like a hungry lion. I laid there, and after about 30 minutes, I felt better. I stood up and walked away slowly, heading to my room.
I went from being a princess to nothing but a mere slave begging for my own life. My mother had died, leaving me with my evil stepfather, who never seizes to toture me any chance he gets.
I was the heir to the throne, but my stepfather made sure he hid me till everyone forgot my mother had a child. To avoid my stepfather's wrath, I prepared myself for the Alpha's gathering.
I had met a uniform in my room already, so I quickly put it on. It was a simple black uniform, but a bit short and revealing. I wasn't really comfortable in the outfit, but I had no choice but to wear it.
As I entered the grand, dim hall, Madam Jess, the head maid, walked up to me with a cold tone. "Violet, you're assigned to serve the VIP area tonight." My heart skipped a beat as I processed what I just heard.
The VIP area was reserved for the most esteemed guests. Most of them knew how my stepfather treated me and also the fact that I was the heir to the throne, but they all turned a blind eye to everything.
I snapped back to reality as Madame Jess called out my name again, her voice stern. "Violet, are you listening? You'll be serving the VIPs tonight, according to Alpha's orders."
"Don't make any mistakes, got it?" I nodded, and with a deep breath, I forced a calm smile. As I entered, the hum of conversation and clinking glasses filled the air.
I blended into the background, my eyes cast down, trying to avoid unnecessary attention and calls. My heart raced each time I got close to them, fearing any mistake could lead to disaster.
I served until I was out of breath and my legs began aching. The Alphas and their entourages were oblivious to my presence, and I was glad because my dress alone could make them notice me. Just as I was about to walk back to fill my tray, I felt a wave of dizziness hit me.
The moment I stumbled, I felt someone hold me and drag me to the corner. "Are you okay, Violet?" Madame Jess whispered.
"I'm fine, just a little bit dizzy," I replied, my voice barely audible. I still haven't fully recovered from the infection, and I was still made to work.
"Be careful; Alpha Damian has his eyes on you. Any little mistake, and you're gone." Her words sent a shiver down my spine. I picked up the glass of water close to me and gulped it down trying to get myself.
Just when I was about to rest for a second, I heard the voices that made me stand up in a flash. "Wine, girl! Now!" They ordered. Seeing the faces of my mother's trusted allies broke my heart into a thousand pieces.
I hesitated, my instincts screaming warning, but I dared not disobey them. With a deep breath, I approached their table with the tray trembling in my hands.
Getting there, I started dropping off the wine in front of them when I suddenly felt one of the Alpha's hands caressing my lap, which made me flinch. My hands trembled, and the tray wobbled.
I tried to steady myself, but it was too late. The wine fell, shattering on the floor. Red liquid splashed everywhere, including another Alpha's lap beside me. The room fell silent, and I frozen, my heart pounding hard.
The man's eyes narrowed, his face darkening with rage. "You clumsy fool!" he yelled, his voice filled with anger. "You'll pay for this." I dropped to my knees, desperate to clean up the mess.
"Please, I'm sorry," I begged, my voice shaking as tears rolled down my cheeks. But then he shoved me as he rose from his seat, his towering frame exuding authority.
I knew I had messed up, and my stepfather's words echoed in my mind: One single slip from you, Violet; trust me, I'd make sure I sell you to the ruthless Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack.
I tried to apologise again, but my words were cut short when he held my chin. He pulled me closer, his face inches from mine. That was when my eyes met with the most handsome middle-aged man I had ever seen.
He had piercing ocean blue eyes and sleek blonde hair with a few black strands. He was a bit tall and had a fit body, which made him look more attractive.
I felt his hot breath on my skin, and my heart raced in terror. Suddenly, the scent of cinnamon and mint hit me like a bolt of lightning. What's that scent? Why does he smell so good? I wondered.
Looking up at him again, I knew what it was. His long fingers wrapped around my chin again, tilting my face upward. Our eyes locked, and my heart raced like a wild animal.
I felt my wolf stirring inside, and then it whispered a single word: "Mate!"
Violet's POV
This man standing in front of me was my mate. I never for once imagined I would be mated to a middle-aged man, but if that is all it takes to save me from the misery of life, I wouldn't care.
His hands on my skin made my heart race even more, but then I noticed the look on his face; he never said a word to me. Was he not feeling the mate bond?
Why hasn't he said anything to me? I asked myself, lost in my own thoughts. I had waited all these years to finally meet my mate. I just turned 19 and was scared that I wouldn't find him.
But now he was in front of me, completely mute. Was he ashamed of me? "What's going on here? What did you do to Alpha Ares?" I heard Jackie's voice as she shoved me to the side, attending to him.
"You incompetent fool! Why did you spill the wine on him? Can't you do something properly for once in your life?" She yelled.
"I didn't mean to. Someone tried to touch me." I didn't even complete my statement when I felt a heavy slap on my face. Jackie slapped me, and before I knew what was going on, I saw two men behind.
They held me and dragged me out of the hall with force. "Let go of me, please; you're hurting me!" I screamed. "I'm so sorry, Alpha Ares; she'd be punished severely for spilling wine on you."
Those were the last words I heard Jackie, my stepsister, say to my mate, who didn't recognize me. As I was dragged away, I couldn't shake off the feeling of Alpha Ares eyes on me.
My heart felt like it was tearing apart. I had finally found him, only to be ripped away without even a chance to talk to him. The mate bond was screaming at me, urging me to get back to him, but I was powerless.
The guards threw me into Alpha Damian's room, which was dark and the floor beneath my feet cold. I collapsed onto the cold floor, my body shaking uncontrollably. Tears streamed down my face, hot and relentless. I wrapped my arms around myself, feeling empty and lost.
"Alpha Ares..." I whispered, my voice cracking.
"Why didn't you recognise me? Why didn't you say anything?" I buried my face in my hands, sobbing. The image of his expressionless face haunted me.
Did he truly not feel the mate bond? Or was he just indifferent? Just then, Alpha Damien walked in with Madam Jess by his side. "You were supposed to serve without any mistake, Violet," he said in his usually menacing voice.
"I'm so sorry, father, but one of the Alpha's touched me inappropriately," I muttered, but received a heavy slap in return, which sent me back to the ground.
"And what if he touched you? What are you worth anyway?" His words pierced my heart like I was being stabbed. My body was shaking with tears I couldn't hold back.
"Please, Father, forgive me."
"You've already failed the number one task by pouring wine on our important guest, and you'd be punished for that; lock her up without food and water," he commanded.
I tumbled, my legs weak and trembling, but I barely had the strength to protest. "Father, please," I begged, my voice hoarse and desperate. I reached out, hoping for a flicker of compassion in his eyes, but he turned away, dismissing me with a wave of his hand.
The guard seized my arms again, dragging me into the darkness, his grips like iron shackles. As he threw me into the cell, the door slammed shut with a resounding thud, sealing my fate.
I sank to the cold floor, my heart racing as panic surged within me. The darkness enveloped me, and as the hours dragged on, my body cried out for food and water.
It was the next day already, and I could feel the day wearing off, but then the heavy door creaked open, and a sliver of light pierced the darkness. I squinted, my heart racing as I recognized the silhouette of Madam Jess.
"Come with me, Violet," she said, her tone firm yet strangely gentle. I pushed myself to my feet, each step a struggle against my weakened state. I followed Madame Jess through the dimly lit corridors, my heart pounding.
Madam Jess opened a door, revealing a room bathed in warm light, where Alpha Damian sat behind a grand desk, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
"I bet you've learnt your lesson," he said, his gaze piercing through her like a blade. I nodded, my gaze fixed on the floor. "Now we need to prepare for the other task," he said.
"Clean her up for the Alpha later," he signaled to Madam Jess, who nodded and walked towards me. I had totally forgotten about the second condition he gave me. How could I let another man take away my innocence after finding my mate?
Just maybe if he had recognized me, I wouldn't be in this situation. I cried my eyes out, knowing fully well that my misery was far from over. Madam Jess got me all cleaned up in one hour, which was tiring.
For the first time in years, I was bathed like a princess with the most expensive soap and perfume that was used to adorn my skin.
"You'd not be covering your hair today," Alpha Damian said to me the moment I stepped out of the bathroom naked.
He always made me cover my hair with a scarf because I was a natural blonde and was scared other pack members would recognized me as the only heir. "I'm here to pick your outfit if that's what you're wondering about," he said.
I gently covered my boobs with my hands, leaving the rest of my body exposed as he looked at me with lust. He kept saying no to all the outfits until he saw me wearing a white, transparent robe.
The robe revealed all parts of my body except my bum, which was covered with my pants. "This is perfect," he said as he stood up from his seat and handed the file to me.
"Don't fuck this up" were his last words before leaving the room. Madam Jess and I followed suit. We came to a stop in front of a golden door. These kinds of rooms were reserved for important visitors.
"Go in now," Madam Jess whispered, and with that, I knocked gently before entering the room, which was dark with dim lights.
The room exuded a dark aura as I quietly walked in, but suddenly the scent of cinnamon and mint filled the air, which made me stop in my tracks. The same scent was intoxicating me, and there was no doubt that it was my mate.
"Come closer," his deep, menacing voice said to me. My mate was the Alpha my stepfather wanted me to please. I didn't know if I should be happy or sad, because I was here to deceive him into signing a contract I knew nothing about.
As I got closer to him, I saw him sitting at the edge of the bed with a cigar in his hand. He stood up, placing his hands on my waist, pushing me closer to him as he inhaled my scent.
"Hmm, you smell so heavenly," he whispered in my ears, which sent jolts of electricity down my spine. I felt his hands trail down from my waist up to my neck as he planted a soft kiss on my neck.
And then he stared into my violet eyes, down to my lips, and before I knew what was happening, he took my lips in his. His lips were soft and sweet; he kept kissing me wildly like he couldn't get enough of it and slowly lifted me up, placing me on the bed.
This is the first time I was feeling this aroused and intense. "Fuck, you're so wet." He said as he slipped his hands in my thong, which only made me quiver more in gratifying pleasure.
But then I noticed he stopped. "Why did you stop?" I whispered, my voice trembling as he gently moved away from me. "It's nothing," he replied just immediately with a look of disgust.
"You can leave now," he said before standing up from the bed. How could I possibly leave when I hadn't even made him sign the documents?
"I can't leave."
"And why is that?" He turned to look at me, who was on the bed half naked. "Because Alpha Damian would kill me if you don't sign that document."
Violet's POV
Alpha Ares eyebrow shot up, his gaze fixed on me. "Sign the document?" He repeated his voice, laced with curiosity. "What do you mean?"
My eyes welled up with tears as I scrambled to cover myself with my robe, my hand shaking. I gently got down from the bed, my knees hitting the cold floor with a soft thud.
"Please, Alpha Ares," I begged. "My father will sell me if you don't sign it. Please, I'm begging you." My tears flowed freely now, dripping onto the cold floor.
He walked to the table where the file was. He opened the file, his eyes scanning the contents. My heart raced, and my breath was short and ragged. I knew I was doomed.
"Get out!" Alpha Ares's growl was low and menacing. I cowered, my eyes fixed on the floor. "Please," I whispered, wishing this time he would change his mind, but Alpha Ares's patience had worn thin.
"Get the fuck out now!!!" he yelled, his voice shaking the walls. I got up to my feet immediately, my legs trembling beneath me. I didn't dare to look at him, fearing what I might see in his eyes.
With a quiet sob, I turned and ran out of the room without a second thought. My sobs echoed through the hallway as I fled Alpha Ares's room, my feet pounding the cold floor.
But my escape was short-lived when Jackie stepped out of nowhere, her eyes gleaming with malice. "Wait, why are you coming out of Alpha Ares's room dressed half-naked?" Jackie said as she held my hand.
"What were you doing in there, huh, Violet?!?"
"And why do you care?" I fired back, my voice trembling. Before I knew what was happening, Jackie's hand flashed out, striking my cheek with a heavy slap. My head jerked back, my skin stinging.
I clenched my jaw, my eyes watering from the pain. I don't know why Jackie enjoys hitting me; Jackie and I were the same age, but she treated me like she was older. I felt like giving her a taste of her own medicine, but I didn't want an extra punishment.
"Don't you know I have my eyes on him?" Jackie sneered. "I've wanted him since I met him at the Alpha's gathering. You better stay away from him, or you'll face my wrath and my father's."
With that, she let go of me and walked away. My feet grew heavy as I dragged myself to my room. I knew what awaited me: my stepfather's anger and his punishment.
Entering my room, I slammed the door shut behind me, leaning against the door as my tears continued to flow. I aggressively took off the white robe from my body; I never wanted to see it again.
I felt helpless, alone, and scared, like every other day. Even my so-called mate couldn't save me from the hands of my stepfather.
What's the essence of having a soul mate, then? Someone who can't protect you? I asked myself, lost in thought, as I drifted off to sleep.
<<< >>>>
My eyes fluttered open hearing the harsh sound of banging on my door, echoing through my room like a death knell. Groggily, I realised I had spent the night on the cold floor naked.
My body was aching from the hardness. "I'm coming!" I called out, my voice husky from sleep. But the banging continued, growing louder and louder. My heart raced as I scrambled to my feet, my hands shaking.
I hastily threw on a simple gown because I couldn't let them in while I was naked, but before I could finish dressing, the door burst open. Two guards walked into the room and dragged me out.
My feet barely touched the ground as I was pulled with force towards the courtroom, where the affairs of that pack were handled. As I was dragged into the hall, they threw me to the floor.
I saw the elders gathered around the table, their faces stern and unforgiving. My stepfather stood at the head, his eyes blazing with anger. "Violet, where were you last night?" Alpha Damian shouted.
I had no idea what to say because he knew where I was. Clearly, he was the mastermind of everything. "My room," I said softly, trying not to expose him.
"So you've got the mind to lie to me, huh?" I was really confused right now, and I didn't even know what to say. "I saw you coming out of the Alpha Ares room half naked last night," Jackie said.
"That's not what happened," I replied, trying to defend myself, but then Alpha Damian interrupted me. "So you mean your princess is lying? What are you saying, Violet?"
"No, my lord, that's not what I mean," I said again as I watched them turn the tables around on me. He had sent me to Alpha Ares's room, but now they were accusing me of going to his room on my own accord.
"So after you stained Alpha Ares with wine, you decided to throw yourself at him after the party, right?" Jackie fired. I had no idea why they were doing this to me. What was their plan?
"You couldn't complete a simple task by serving without any mistakes, and you still went ahead to seduce my friend Alpha Ares, and you think you'd go scot-free? Never!!"
Suddenly, I watched how Alpha Damien ordered one of the guards; he walked up to me with a long whip, and the moment Apha Damien signalled him, the long whip landed on my back.
The pain was so unbearable, I could feel my back burning like it was on fire. At another signal, the whip landed on my legs, this time sending me flat on the ground.
My legs and back were hurting as blood dripped from my body. "Please, I'm sorry," I whispered, but my pleas fell on deaf ears.
I couldn't even look at the faces of the other members of the pack who watched as I was being humiliated. They all smiled with Alpha Damien, like I was some toy to play with.
I felt like ending it all because there was no reason to live anymore. I shut my eyes tight, ready to take in the next whip, when I heard a voice that made me freeze.
"What the hell is going on here?" Alpha Ares's voice echoed through the courtroom. "I repeat who had the guts to lay their filthy hands on my mate." The hall was filled with murmurs as they all looked at each other, confused.
I was even more surprised than they were. I raised my head to look at him, his presence dominating the entire room. Alpha Damian stood up from his chair and walked towards Ares.
"Friend, I know you might have had something with her last night, but that doesn't mean she's your mate," he said with a mischievous smile playing on his lips.
"I meant every single word I said, and I'll take her back to my pack today." Ares said, his voice stern. I wondered what had made him change his mind-did he finally feel the mate bond?
I think he did; that is the only reason why he's claiming me now. I felt a flicker of hope for the first time in years. Someone was going to save me.
"That's impossible," Damien yelled. "How so?" Alpha Ares fired back.
"Get up, Violet," Ares commanded. "Don't allow this piece of sh*t to get into our friendship we've had for years." But Alpha Ares didn't utter a word as he looked at me.
Now I was stuck between obeying Alpha Ares or Damien. "She is my slave," Alpha Damien yelled.
"And she is my mate," Ares retorted. My stepfather laughed aloud and then turned back to Ares. He only laughs like that when he knows he is going to gain something in return.
"Well, there's a way to end this," he growled. "Since you claim she's your mate and wish to take her back to your pack, you have to sign the fucking documents!!"
I knew Alpha Damien more than anything; he wouldn't let me go without taking something in return. I didn't know the content of the document, but from Alpha Ares's expression yesterday, it wasn't a minor contract.
"Fine, if that's what you want," Ares stated as he grabbed my hand, pulling me out of the room.
