My Ex Husband

Chapter One

"Can you get there within an hour?" I asked the driver as he drove me off from the airport.

This is a day that I cannot miss. I remember on my wedding day how my sister stood by me, so why should I miss her special day? I promised her that I would always be there for her.

Though, I was sure none of my family members were expecting me because when I told my parents I would be coming, they told me not to come, that I should enjoy my trip because it's a trip I have been longing to go.

Even my husband thought I would be coming back in the next two months but I had to show up surprisingly at my sister's wedding ceremony.

I bought a golden watch for my sister as a surprise wedding gift. My sister had always loved a gold watch and this one I got for her is the most expensive I have ever purchased.

I decided to keep my arrival a secret from my sister, wanting to surprise her myself. I didn't want anyone else to tell her that I was there before she saw me, so I kept a low profile. I put on a cap and a nose mask

"We are there" The driver said when we got to the hall.

As I exited the car, I tried to keep my presence discreet, I made my way to the hall, careful not to draw attention to myself.

I sighted the bride, and I moved closer to her, everyone's eyes were on me then. As I wanted to hug her, I sighted the groom.

"Huh, Ryan?" I said as I removed my nose mask and cap

Ryan Anderson is my husband. We got married five years ago.

A year ago, Ryan's father stated that whosoever would inherit his company must have a son before the next two years. Meanwhile Ryan has two brothers, he is the eldest son.

My husband and I have tried everything we could do so I could get pregnant, but we only got a solution, which is to have a child through surrogacy.

Before I get married, I have been working to provide food for the family. I sponsored my sister to school.

I met Ryan when I was working at his father's company.

I have worked in the company for two years. The first time I met Ryan was when I went to his father's office to ask for an advance payment so I could pay my sister's school fee.

It was love at first sight. The moment I entered the office, I could not say a word, Ryan and I were only staring at each other. It was his father's voice that broke the silence in the office.

I told him what I came for, and he granted it.

I went to continue my work, and after some minutes, I saw Ryan, he came to ask for my number and I gave him.

That is where our love started. He always calls me, tells me his plans and we used to imagine how our future would be, having a son and a daughter has been our wish. A son that would look like him, as the first born, and a daughter that would look like me as the second born.

I introduced him to my parents and he introduced me to his parents. We got married legally.

It was as if my world was falling apart when I saw Ryan, as the groom.

The trip I went to was the first trip I have ever gone to in all my life. My plan was to go the following year, but my husband said he would be busy at work and he might not be coming home for a week or two weeks, so he insisted that I go on a trip for like three weeks, which I agreed to.

"Tell me this is not true, Ryan, what are you doing here?" I screamed.

"How did she get here? The security should do their work" Ryan said and that was how I was pushed out of the hall.

I stood out of the hall and tears were dropping on my cheeks.

I waited until the celebration had ended and I watched people start to take their leave, some were looking at me with concern and sympathy as they departed.

I waited till all the guests left and I entered the hall. I met my family and my husband

"Please, tell me what I have done to deserve this? Why did you all decide to betray me ...." Tears were falling down my cheeks.

"Rachel, we had waited enough, we had waited for you to get pregnant but you didn't, we can't watch your husband lose something like that, he's the rightful owner of his father's property, we can't watch his brother take it from him" my mother uttered.

"And moreover, I am pregnant" My sister, Ariana said.

"Preg... pregnant? Ariana, why did you decide to do this to me? Why? Ryan? Daddy, talk, you are not talking, why have you all decided to do this to me? What have I done to deserve this?"

"You need to accept your fate, sometimes things doesn't go as planned, your sister is pregnant and I want you to be happy with that, it is what you have been wishing to have, move on my lovely daughter Rachel"

"I do not think this is important, my wife and I need to enjoy our honeymoon without any disturbance, Rachel, meet my lawyer tomorrow and sign the divorce paper" Ryan said, he held Ariana's hand and they left the hall.

"You have to move on, life continues" My mother said and she left the hall with my father.

"My daughter in-law, Rachel, I was told that you agreed to this and that's the reason I am present here, I never knew Ryan was deceiving me, I know I caused all these by telling him to give birth first before he could inherit my property, I am sorry Rachel, but trust me, I have a better plan for you"

Chapter Two

As I stepped out of the hall, I tried to make sense of what was happening.

I walked down to a bar, probably I could sit and get what's happening, it's beyond my imagination, I have never heard it happen, I just watched it on movies or read it on books, and why is it happening to me?

I got to the bar and ordered for alcohol, I ordered more and more.

I stretched myself as I woke up.

"What? Where am I? Who is this?" I said as I found a man at the bed.

Oh! I remembered I drank alcohol and what happened next? Yeah, I know the bar is attached to a hotel and what am I doing at the hotel with just a singlet and a short trouser I was putting on under my long gown?

"Who are you?" The Man faced me, after I asked.

"Thanks to you Rachel, I enjoyed my night"

"Your night as how? What did I do?"

"We had a one night stand"

I checked my body and I confirmed what he just say

"Oooh! No, no, please"

"I am Nathsn Taylor, the CEO of creamies company"

Of course, I know the company, Creamiss,it's one of the top three businesses in the country, alongside Ryan's father's company, FL company.

"You are Mrs. Anderson, oh! I am sorry, I forgot that you are going to sign a divorce paper this morning, sorry about that"

"What? Who are you? How did you know so much about me?"

"Well, it's bad seeing you face those challenges, but why are some people heartless, even your family betrayed you"

"Can you tell me who you are?"

"Do you know there's still more to the conditions given to the three brothers"

"Why are you telling me all these? Having a one night stand with me when I was drunk isn't enough for you?"

*Another condition given is to give whoever make the company run to number 1 in the next competition is the one who will get the property"

"Why are you telling me this? I need to know what your motives are, I can't just accept everything you are saying"

"Do you want to take revenge on Ryan? He has betrayed you by getting married to your sister, now is the chance for you to revenge, he married your sister but you shouldn't allow him inherit the company"

"I leave them to do whatever they want, Mr. Nathan, I am not interested"

"Okay, this is my business card" he threw the card on the bed and left.

As I was about dressing up, my phone rang. When I checked, it was Ryan's lawyer calling.

"Hello"

"Good Morning Ma'am, I am expecting you at the office"

"Alright, I'll be there shortly" I said and I hung up.

There's nothing I could do, that shows they don't want me around them, and I can't force myself. I will show up as they want and sign the divorce paper.

With a heavy heart, I bathe and dress myself up. I knew there was nothing I could do to stop the wheels that were already in motion.

I took a cab and got there.

I saw Ryan and Ariana seated at the right side, I saw my parents seated at the left hand side.

I went to meet the lawyer "where's the divorce paper"

Everyone was shocked when they heard me say that, were they expecting me to keep begging?

"Babe, when are we going on the trip?" I heard my sister asked Ryan.

"Anytime you want darling, I will do anything for you, you are pregnant with my son, so ask anything you want"

I could hear them loudly, and I remembered what Mr. Nathan said, it seemed like I would be revenging.

I took the pen and signed the paper.

"Done" I handed the paper over to the lawyer and left.

I checked my bag and took the card Mr. Nathan gave me.

I took a cab, and I went directly to his company.

I met the receptionist, a young and beautiful lady.

"Hello, how can I be of help?" she asked.

"I need to see Mr. Nathan Taylor, tell him Rachel Anderson wants to see him"

"I can't just call him, do you have any appointments with him"

"No, but just tell him please"

The receptionist called him and she directed his office to me.

I followed the receptionist's directions and that led me to Nathan's office.

I knocked and he said I should enter.

"Your office is not bad" I said as I stepped into his office.

"But not to be compared to your ex-husband office?" He smiled.

"Ex-husband? Am I not Rachel Anderson again? Am I divorced ? Ooh! I just signed the divorce paper, why do I have to let my sister take away my husband?" Tears began to drop from my eyes.

"You don't need to cry Rachel, you did what was right, they don't want you, your family betrayed you and even your sister the one you cared for all your life did this to you, so you did what was right"

I breathe in and out deeply, "I did what was right? Let's skip that, now I am ready to take revenge, I am ready to do anything to stop him from inheriting the company ...."

"But how does that stop him from inheriting his father's property, okay if you take up the number one position, if he takes the number two, he's still going to inherit it"

"No, just do your part, and leave the rest to me"

"What's my part?"

"You have been living with him together for the past five years, you know what his strength is, who he relies on, you know his weakness and everything about him, don't you think we can get him through that?"

"Do you think if you get those information, he wouldn't be inheriting it"

"Yes, leave the rest to me, I wouldn't make him near it"

"Then I am ready to say everything"

Chapter Three

I told him everything he needed to hear. I was ready to exact my revenge upon him.

Nathan informed me of an upcoming presentation that would decide the company that would rank first in the country.

Even when I think the plan has nothing to do with Ryan inheriting the company, I just had to trust him.

I will make myself present at the presentation, I have to witness it and know what's next....

It was the presentation day, the one that would determine the one who would rank first in the country.

I sat in the back row, observing and then praying silently. The tension in the room was palpable as the representative of various companies stepped forward, each one vying for the coveted position.

I saw my sister, she was seated in the third row. I doubt if she sees me.

It was Ryan who presented first, while presenting we had eye contact and I smiled.

I couldn't tell if it was the eye contact that was the catalyst for his stammering, but it seemed that way. The crowd shifted uncomfortably in their seats as Ryan stumbled through his presentation. I, however, maintained my cool composure, a hint of a smile playing on my lips.

Just then, Edward Anderson walked to the podium, a confident grin on his face.

The audience was surprised as they leaned forward in their seats.

Edward's words were sharp, precise and he presented flawless. He spoke with passion and charisma that was impossible to resist, and before we knew it, everyone was impressed by his presentation.

I tried thinking about what caused Ryan's sudden stumble. Could it be that Nathan had used the information in some way to trip him up? But how? And why did it seem that Edward was in on the plan? The more I pondered, the more questions arose.

I can see the smile on Ryan's father's face, now I remembered what Natan told me, that whoever made the company rank first will be the one to inherit the company.

Well, they are still yet to announce.

The speaker came forward and everyone was eager to hear.

"i know we are all eager to know to know the country that will rank first, second and third, we all know the three companies have been doing excellently in our countries, in one aspect one is more good than the others, and another aspect, one is good than others, but regarding the presentation they have stated what they have told us what they would offer us in this new year, now we have the FL company as the first, we all know the first person who came to present, Ryan Anderson, was out of it, but the other, Edward Anderson said things that we couldn't look over, and we have Nathan Robinson as the second position..."

After he finished, someone raised his hand to ask a question.

"It was Edward Anderson that presented and he presented well, now, is he the one that would be handling the company or he says it on behalf of who would handles it"

Everywhere was silent and not long after, it ended.

Weeks later, I heard the news that Ryan was the one handling the company. I was devastated but I do not have a choice, I just have to accept my fate, but why does Nathan have to do this? Is there more to this? I kept wondering

I was vomiting and having symptoms of malaria, and I went to the hospital.

At the hospital, the doctor did a test.

"You are pregnant" I screamed joyfully when the doctor said that.

I was very happy. I dialed Nathan's number and told him the news. I can sense that he was happy too. He told me to come over to his house and he sent me the address.

"We need to plan, don't you think we should get married?" Nathan said.

"No, I don't think that's necessary, let's just live together like we are couple, and when we are sure we really understand each other, then we can marry"

"No problem, if that's what you want"

I was very happy. I do not want to marry him, all I want to do is to revenge on Ryan.

Months later, I gave birth to a baby boy and we named him Clinton.

I was in the kitchen preparing pasta for me and my husband when my phone rang.

"Hello, who am I speaking with?"

"Rachel, did you delete my number"

I deleted the number though, but I recognized the voice, it was my mother.

"Please, who am I speaking with, I am cooking for my husband, if you don't have what to say, please don't disturb me"

"Rachel, this is your mother talking, why have you decided to run away? Is it because of what happened? Sometimes you have to accept that you made a mistake, you made a mistake by marrying Ryan, and you shouldn't be angry. I heard you are married and now have a son, congratulations....." I hung up

"I don't know why I still haven't blocked them from calling me, how would one's mother say that to her daughter?" I said and stirred what I was preparing.

"Honey, what's that?" my husband said as he walked to the kitchen.

"My mother, she called me now"

"Do you still refer to her as your mother? I never expected you to...so what did she dismissed"

"She said, she heard that I have given birth and I now have husband"

"Is she expecting you to be barren forever? It wouldn't happen"

"Honey, do you hear Ryan talk of importing products?

"Yes, I know about that well"

"You will tell me what you know about it after eating"

"No problem"

"Why are you doing the dishes, you should have allowed the maid to"

"I just want to"

"And one more thing" he said.

"What's that darling, it seems like you want to ask something tangible with this your look"

"Well, I want you to be my personal assistant at work"

"Whoa! I love the idea and I really want to, but what about Clinton? And what about your personal assistant? I don't want be the reason someone will be sacked at work"

"I will deal with all that, I just want you as my personal assistant"

"No problem darling"
