Chapter 1 Beginning

Ryan

"You little pest, come here and I'll show you who the strongest is." I yelled at my twin brother.

He stuck his tongue out and made a mockery of my attempt to catch him. I jumped at him once more but he was quick to avoid me this making him laugh loudly at me. I scowled at him angrily, I was frustrated he kept outsmarting me.

"Easy there tiger, don't be upset you're too slow to catch me." He mocked.

I shook more head and became more determined to hit him, he was smart and detected my move. I ended on falling flat on my face and his mockery increased, I was pissed beyond words because he always won at this game. I stood still and suddenly jerked I could see worry stretch all over his handsome face. He quickly moved towards me and began to shake me violently.

"Ryan! What's wrong with you, please say something! Is anybody there?" He yelled frantically.

Seeing that he had let his guard down, I seized the opportunity and grabbed his arms catching him by surprise; I hauled him over and flipped him, his back hit the ground and I jumped on my feet. I pinned him to the ground before he got the opportunity to stand up and began to tackle him.

"Who's the strongest now?" I asked teasingly.

He licked his bottom lips and stared at me straight in the eye.

"Ewww." I spat out in disgust.

The snake took that as a cue and flipped me over and the next second, I was beneath him. We both burst into laughter as he tickled me and then I kicked him off me.

"Be careful with those kicks of yours." He warned jokingly.

"Be careful while dealing with the future alpha of this pack." I said in return.

We both laughed as he did a fake bow.

"Long live the Alpha." He said teasingly.

I puffed up my shoulders and walked majestically towards him, I tapped his shoulders gently and patted his head.

"Thank you dear Niel, you are a loyal and humble subject." I said proudly.

Niel chuckled and landed a light blow to my lower abdomen, I was about to return the gesture when I sensed someone's presence. I straightened up as I awaited the newcomer. I relax when I saw it was one of the guards, the guard did a little how as a sign of respect and I signalled to him to speak.

"Your father requests your presence." The guard announced.

I looked at Niel who was as clueless as I was. It was unusual to be summoned by my father or the both of us, I sighed and gestured for Niel to come with me.

"He requests the presence of the Alpha alone." The guard said.

Niel chuckled and I sighed, Father had the habit of excluding Niel from important discussions owing to the fact that Niel is mischievous and a troublemaker.

"Go ahead, the senior alpha awaits you." Niel teased.

I chuckled and threw him a light punch which he blocked.

"I'll be back to teach you exactly how to respect your alpha." I said frowning.

"I'll be awaiting your esteemed presence alpha." He mocked.

I shook my head and laughed lightly before leaving with the guard.

The guard led me to the garden and retreated, I inhaled sharply and went in. It was one of the favorite place my father had in the Alpha's fort as it housed memories of him and my Mother, though she was still alive they still hung out there to relax

I saw the exact replica of me but an older version, his back turned to me, the breeze blew his jet-black hair and he seemed to be lost in thoughts as he stared at the flowers, I cleared my throat and approached him.

"Father, you called for me." I said respectfully.

"Do you see those roses over there?" He asked, pointing at the roses just few frets away from us.

I stared at them and admired their beauty, it was mother's favorite flowers.

"Yes, it's beautiful." I said quietly.

He inhaled deeply and exhaled sharply and then turned to face me.

"Ryan, let me tell you a little story. Your mother and I met in this same garden when her father brought her on a tour around the packs, I met her here and we fell in love instantly, our love for roses brought us closer and till date we fight with our might to keep the roses safe, do you know why? Because though they grow amongst thorns they're beautiful and worth the pain one has to go through in acquiring them. Once, your mother craved for them and they had withered by then because I was busy attending to the packs issues and no one was there to tend to them but only few remained deeply buried in the thorns, no werewolf could dare retrieve them as poisonous vines had grown around it but I did it for her sake, though I fell ill for weeks yet the smile on her face kept me going." He said longingly.

I smiled, father loves mother and would die for her sake, I was used to hearing stories like this.

"Do you know why I'm telling you this story?" He suddenly asked.

I shook my head.

"It's because though I'd take days to plan an attack yet I'll do something stupid and dangerous without second thoughts for the sake of your mother, I knew if I died she'll keep the pack safe and it was better off that way, likewise the safety and future of your pack depends on your Luna, you must chose wisely." He said with all seriousness.

"Yes Father, I promise to chose a Luna just like Mother." I swore.

"Yes you will, which is why I have handpicked a mate for you, she's the daughter of Alpha Ephraim of the Red Moon Pack, she's skilled in swordsmanship and battle, she'll not only be a good mother but also a good Luna to the pack." Father announced.

Chapter 2 Unfolding

Helene

"There's no way I'll marry that man!" I yelled at my Father.

"Helene, he's not just a man." He said convincingly.

"I don't care!" I screamed.

"You have to care! What is wrong with you?" He asked angrily.

I scoffed as I looked away from my father. I had returned from a hunting spree and got dressed up ready to munch on my prey which had been garnished and cooked but my father called me aside saying he needed to discuss an important issue with me. I thought it was the pack's issue as usual but he ended up telling me I was getting married to some Alpha.

"Helene, you have to listen to me." He demanded.

"Father! Listen to yourself, you want to marry me off to some Alpha am I a burden to you? Have I done anything wrong to you?" I said emotionally.

"You'll have to leave sooner or later, you're a woman you can't stay with me forever Helene. Forget your bravado and prowess, all these will only be useful when you Lord over your own people." He reminded me.

I banged my hand loudly on my bedside table thereby shattering the inkstone and writing materials.

"I'm not intending to stay here forever and yes I'll get married I'm just staying I won't allow you to marry me off to someone I don't know! Someone years older than me!" I argued.

My Father sighed, he was getting frustrated, I was about to argue further when the door opened to reveal my mother. My Father rushed to meet her but I was faster, I took her hands and led her to sit beside me.

"Mother, will you please tell Father not to force me into getting married to a random stranger?" I begged.

"Lola, explain to your daughter that she can't stay with us forever, this is for her future!" My Father rebuffed.

"I'm not arguing that fact with him by I just want to get married to whomever I please." I insisted.

"There's no way that will happen! You'll marry who I ask you to!" Father retorted.

"And why is that?" I threw back at him.

"Because we've signed a marriage pact between both packs when you were born! How did you think we maintained peace all these years? We subdued them?" He said angrily.

A justified anger stirred within me.

"You're marrying me off because of a pact you made? I'm a peace treaty item now?" I asked in disbelief.

My Father shook his head slowly.

"Lola, make your daughter understand things please." He begged.

I turned to face my Mother. She smiled weakly at me and caressed my face, I cooked down a bit.

"Helene my dear, your father and I will never do anything to harm or hurt you, we're doing this for the sake of the pack. We've made a marriage pact and the future of the pack now rest on your shoulders." She explained.

I held her hands in mine and gave it a gentle squeeze.

"Mother, let's break off the pact, we have enough soldiers if war arises we can defend ourselves, I'll give up my life for this pack and you know that but please don't be in a bondage in the name of a peace treaty, break it off." I said convincingly.

My Father scoffed.

"A pact that had been made before you were born should be called off? You grew up fighting minute wars and winning them does that make you think you're safe? Helene, they were there when this pack needed them and now they're asking for their rights in return so you expect me to say no just because you don't feel like it?" Father questioned.

"I would fight for this pack with every blood in my vein." I said indignantly.

"You'll fight for a pack that they sacrificed their lives to keep safe? They had our back all these years now you're thinking of going to war just because they asked us to honor our words? I wonder Helene what kind of a leader does that." Father said, scoffed and left the room.

My face fell as I knew what he said was the truth but would I stay still while I'm being sold? No! All my life I dreamt of my mate. How he'd sweep me off my feet and show me with love, how we'll spend he test of our lives together, how we'll go to war and come home victorious, how we'll lead our pack peacefully. All of that would go down the drain if I get tied down to an alpha I don't know.

The rumors that the alpha is an old man who would probably die off soon and his sons are nowhere to be found, rumors even has it that one of his sons was a human which is an abomination. How could I marry into such family? It was unheard of.

"Helene." My mother called out softly.

"Mother please, I don't want to marry a old man." I pleaded.

"I'm sorry Helene but there's little I can do about this, your father is right I'm afraid, we have to go through with this." She said.

"What of my mate? Don't you dare if I found my mate or he found me?" I asked.

At that point I was desperate, it felt like a suicidal mission if I were to marry the alpha.

"Your father and I are not mates yet we live our lives to the fullest with love and harmony, I believe you'll do same, who knows? He might be your mate." She said with a twinkle in her eye.

"Mother, nothing you'll say will change my mind, there's no way I'll marry that alpha, who knows what he's up to? I hear he needs more soldiers which is why he remember the pact, what if he's in trouble and only needs our help hence this marriage? I won't agree to this." I insisted.

My mother chuckled and gave my palm a gentle squeeze.

"You're a smart girl Helene, I know you'll make the right choice and choose what's best for the pack." She said reassuringly and left the room.

Chapter 3 Love in the air

Niel

I giggled silently as I watched Ryan search for me without success, I've been hiding in the same spot for about five minutes now and he's worried sick just looking for me. I decided to tease him just a little bit but he begins to cry and ran off to get our parents. I came out of my hiding spot after he was gone and wandered farther into the forest.

At first the sky was bright and birds were chirping loudly. I love the sight of nature and delved deeper to see if I could find anything interesting, I soon saw some spiders making there webs and I caught few of hem and trapped them in my pouch. Ryan is scared of spiders so I intended to put them in his clothes as it would be funny to watch.

I heard a cackle and walked towards the direction it was coming from. I walked for few minutes only to arrive at a cave which was almost empty, I went in and found absolutely nothing save for some skulls and bones. I turned to leave and then the sky suddenly turned black, I screamed and ran but a strong arm caught me, before j could make sense of what was happening I had lost consciousness.

I woke up to discover I was being tied to a stake and my father head a torch in his hands.

"How dare you?" He said spitefully.

I was confused as I looked around but couldn't make sense of what was happening. The whole pack surrounded me and hauled stones and curses at me.

"Let me go!" I yelled but no one listened.

Suddenly, a Haggard woman appeared in front of me, her teeth were decayed and when she opened her mouth maggots flocked.out of it. I almost puked in disgust and turned my face away but she forced me to look at her.

"I curse you to never find love, you'll be lonely all of your life. Anyone who loves you will die a horrible death, anyone who tries to break this curse will never know peace, you will be an outcast among your own people, your best friend will betray you, your woman will seek your life and you will never be happy!" The woman shouted.

"No!" I yelled frantically.

I began to shake violently as I tried to free myself, the witch appeared beside my Father and everyone else began to chant the curse along with her. Ryan was brought before me and the witch began to stab him, I screamed and yelled but couldn't do a thing.

"Niel, help!" Ryan said desperately as blood seeped out of the corner of his mouth and he bled uncontrollably.

"Ryan!" I yelled.

A this is heard as I hit the ground, I opened my eyes to see that it was a dream and I had fallen down from my bed. I groaned and tried to sit upright but a pang of headache forced me to lie for another minute. I was covered in sweat so I forcefully stood up and downed a cup of water, I ran my fingers through my hair.

'That damned nightmare!' I cussed.

I knew I wouldn't get any more sleep that night so I put on a light layer of clothing and walked out of my chamber, I wanted to wolf out and run into the woods but I figured out that I'd scare the guards who were on patrol so I resorted to going to the garden to calm my nerves. My heart was still beating fast and my entire body shook.

Ryan

I threw a vase at the mirror and it shattered into pieces, I punched the wall until my hands began to bleed, J tried to stop me but I dismissed him. I hated people seeing me vulnerable and angry. At first I thought Father was joking about my marriage but when he insisted I get married before the next full moon I knew it was serious.

I tried to talk sense into his head but he would have none of it, apparently the girl in question was betrothed to me when she was born as a peace treaty between the two packs. I had no problem with the peace treaty but forcing me to marry a girl I don't know? That was extreme. I love the love between my parents.

The two were mates hence life was easier for them. I didn't want to marry a complete stranger, the girl was rumored to be arrogant, boastful and disrespectful. How could I marry such? But due to the fact that our rival pack had been making plans for a war my Father is on the edge and according to him I must have a Luna beside me to rule the pack together.

I wanted a woman I loved, someone I chose for myself not someone they chose for me but obviously it isn't working, I couldn't sleep hence I went to the garden to vent out my anger and frustration.

A familiar frame stood few meters away from me and I sighed in relief knowing it was my twin brother.

"Having trouble falling asleep?" I asked.

"What about you? Too excited you're getting married soon so your sleep is taken away?" He replied.

I laughed sadly and hit him playfully, he handed me a cup of wine and I gulped it down.

"What's wrong? Trouble in paradise?" He asked.

"He's forcing me to marry a girl I have no interest in." I replied.

"Perks of being an alpha."

I shrugged.

"I'll reject the offer. What about you? Your hormones are shot up?" I said lewdly.

"Gross, you're disgusting." He replied and we both burst into laughter.

Silence hung in the air and I felt all my worries disappear. Though he was known for his bad habits Niel is the best thing that has happened to me, I always feel relieved and safe with him, after all; he's my twin.

"The girl? Meet up with her and see if you both can break this pact." Niel suddenly suggested.

My face lit up.

"Of course! Why haven't I thought of that?" I exclaimed.

"Simple; you're dumb." He insulted and before I could get the change to hit him, he fled.
