Chapter one
What's going on?
Evelyn POV
The sound of my blaring alarm jolted me out of my deep slumber, and I groaned angrily, as I pulled the duvet over my face. For heaven's sake, can't I have a good sleep, even for once? I'm always working, waking up early, and those annoying things. Heaven knows that I would've quit this damn job, if not that I don't like staying at home, doing anything.
My alarm keeps blaring, and I yanked the duvet off my face, and sat up on my bed, before reaching out to it, after which I put it off, and rolled my eyes. I yawned tiredly, and stretched my hands above my head tiredly, before swinging my legs down the bed, after which I got on my feet, before dragging myself sluggishly towards the bathroom.
Stepping into the bathroom, I sighed tiredly, and crashed my back against the wall, while I continued yawning. For goodness sake, can't I lay on that bed, and spend some hours sleeping? I'm going to quit this job, on a serious note, I love my sleep so much, to think of sacrificing it for anything, not even for a job, earning me billions of dollars.
"Stop lying, Eve." My subconscious mind snapped at me, and I rolled my eyes, before I lazily turned on the shower, as I let the water touch my body. After a few minutes, I turned it off, and tied my towel around my chest, before walking back into my room. Stepping into my room, I walked over to my dresser, and sat down, before grabbing the blower, after which I turned it on and started drying my hair, and in a few minutes, I turned it off and dropped it down.
Tilting my head to check the time, I almost jumped out of my skin, as I was met with the shock of my life, it was already almost 8am, and the time I'm supposed to be at the office, is 7am. Oh damn! I'm so screwed up. I heard a new CEO is taking over the company, and he's going to be introduced today. I heard he's arrogant, pompous and a jerk, he shouldn't try messing with me, coz he won't like what will happen.
In almost an hour, I was all dressed up for work, and I glanced at my reflection in the mirror one more time, before storming out of my room, not after picking my car keys from the bed.
My name is Evelyn Jones, twenty-three years old working-class, lady. My parents reside in Paris for now, for some business project, and I'm here all alone with my nanny, madam Cleopatra. I'm used to it though, not that they ever care about me. All my life, I'm used to being alone, all they care about is their business, so I've accepted my fate long ago.
I work as an accountant in Turner enterprise, one of the biggest telecommunication companies in Oklahoma City. I have a boyfriend, his name is Raymond Jared, a young business tycoon, who has a passion for traveling around the world, for some business projects, we rarely talk, coz we both are always busy, but our love is strong.
Climbing down the grand staircase, the aroma coming from the kitchen, filled my nostrils, and I bet that I must have a taste of that delicious food, before going to work. If there's anything I don't joke with, it's food. I don't leave home without eating, I love food more than life itself.
"Good morning nanny Cleo." I greeted, her as I walked into the kitchen, where I met her stirring stew, with her apron on.
"Good morning dear, did you sleep well?" She glanced at me, and asked with a smile on her face, before turning her attention to what she was doing again.
"Yes I did, what are we having for breakfast please?" I asked, leaning against the counter, forgetting that I'm already late for work.
"I packed some food for you. You're already late for work, so you should take it with you." She said, as she reached out to the food flask, which is next to her, before holding it out to me.
"Awwwwn! Thank you, you're always the best." I squeaked excitedly, as I took the food flask from her, and pecked her hair, while she chuckled softly.
"Alright, see you later," I said, before storming out of the kitchen, and straight to the exit door, before storming out of the house, and soon, I'm already at the parking lot, and without wasting much time, I hopped in on one of my cars, and turned on the ignition, before driving out of the compound, and soon, I was already on my way to the company.
After driving for almost a few minutes, I almost screamed my lungs out, as I was welcomed by tons of cars in a queue. Damn it! There's a traffic jam.
"Oh not now," I whined angrily, as I glanced at my wristwatch, which keeps ticking.
Letting out a sigh, I honked loudly, but the voice from the car next to mine pulled my attention.
"Hey, miss can you please be calmed, huh? Don't blow off my eardrums please." He rolled his eyes at me.
"Damn you, man! You have no right, whatsoever to tell me that, so go to hell." I yelled at him and pressed the honk again.
"Can you move your cars out of the damn way? I'm running late for work!" I stuck out my neck through the window, and yelled, while they all stared at me from their cars like I'm acting a drama.
The traffic jam was finally resolved after a few minutes, as everyone drove away. I spent a few more minutes driving before I finally got to the company, and I drove in. Parking neatly at the garage, I alighted and cat-walked to the entrance door, not minding the fact that I'm late for work, and should be scared of getting sacked. Not that I care though.
Stepping into the building, my eyes almost popped out of their sockets, at the sight I behold. What the hell is going on here?
Chapter two
She looks familiar
Jayden POV
Stepping out of the bathroom, with a towel, hanging dangerously around my waist, my body dripping wet, I walked over to the dresser, and leaned in on the chair, as I stared at my good-looking reflection. What more can I possibly ask for? I mean, look at me, I have the most handsome face ever, the most perfect body shape, perfect voice, everything about me is so perfect, and I have many ladies on my lists, both young and old, tripping for me, but heck! I don't give a damn about them, I'm not a flirt, so I don't give them attention.
After I was done drooling at my image, I chuckled softly, before walking over to my cabinet, and picking out my office clothes, which are a set of black suits, and a pair of black shoes. An hour later, I was finally done dressing up, and by the time I glanced at the wall clock, I was wowed at the time, I'm already three hours late, not that I cared though.
Taking one last glance at my reflection, I finally stormed out of the room, not after picking up my briefcase.
My name is Jayden Turner, a twenty-seven years old young handsome business tycoon. Business is what I have a passion for, so I have many companies in my name, but not in Oklahoma. My dad resides here, and he lately willed his company here to me, since he's aging, so I had to come down here, to take over the company.
Stepping out of my room, I walked through the spacious hallway, till I got to the deck of the grand staircase, before descending it, and in the next seconds, I was already in the living room, where I met my old dad, sipping from the mug of hot coffee while watching the early morning news. The connection between dad and news is inseparable, he loves anything that has to do with news.
"Good morning dad." I smiled heartily at him.
"Good morning son, did you sleep well?" He returned the smile, as he glanced at me, and took his attention back to the TV almost immediately.
"Yes dad, I'm off to the company," I said while adjusting my tie with my left hand.
"I thought you aren't going to resume today, it's almost 10am." He said, giving me an unbelievable look.
"I had a hectic day yesterday, trying to set up some things, so I slept off quite late, and today, I woke up late, I'm off already dad, see you later," I said.
"Ok son, but you haven't had breakfast." He said.
"About that, I'll have breakfast when I get to the office, I have to be on my way now." I smiled at him.
"Alright son, take care of yourself, and enjoy your new company." He gave me an assuring smile, and with that, I smiled and stormed out of the house, and soon, I was at the parking lot, where fleets of cars were parked.
Hopping in on one of my cars, I dropped my briefcase on the seat beside the driver's seat, before igniting the car engine, after which I revised and drove out of the compound, and in split seconds, I was already on my way to the company.
After driving for what seemed like forever, I finally got to the big gate of the company, which rolled open after a few minutes, and I drove in.
Parking at the garage, I alighted and started walking off to the entrance door.
A middle-aged man, of about forty-five or fifty years of age, came rushing towards me, and once he got to me, he took my briefcase.
"Good morning sir." The young man greeted me, but I just hummed a yeah, while walking briskly to the elevator, and once I got in, he got in too, before it took off, and in the next minutes, the door rolled open, and he lead me to my supposed office.
Stepping into the spacious office, I couldn't hold back the 'wow', that escaped my lips. The interior design is really beautiful and eye-catching, whoever designed it, must really be a pro at this.
Walking over to the seat behind the desk, I kept admiring the portrait of my dad, hanging almost everywhere in the office, and I must say that it added to the beauty of the office.
"Sir, the staff are all waiting for you to come to address them." The young man said politely, pulling me back to reality.
"Oh! Alright, I'll be there." I replied, not taking a glance at him, as my gaze was fixated on the portrait of my dad, having a pic of when he was still a young man, I couldn't help the smile that crept its way to my face, I miss the young man, I miss him, being young.
"Ok sir, I'll be on my way now, please do call me if you need anything, I'm just outside your office." He said, before turning to go.
"Uhm what's your name?" I asked, as I finally turned to face him for the first time since we walked in.
"Liam Harper sir, I used to be your dad's secretary, but now your secretary." He said.
"Oh, I see." I nodded unbelievably. What the heck! This is crazy! The fact that he used to be my dad's secretary, doesn't mean he must be my secretary, right? I mean, how can I let an elderly man like him, work as my secretary? That's not possible.
He bowed slightly, before finally working out of my office.
Letting out a soft sigh, I finally turned and walked out of my office, and as soon as I got to my so-called old secretary's office, I met him sitting behind his desk, doing what I don't know on his computer. He better enjoys the rest of his days here, coz he's leaving soon, and when I say soon, I mean, his days here are numbered. I don't care if dad agrees to it, but he must leave.
"Oh you're here Sir, this way please." He said, as he stood up and gestured for me to come with him while heading to the door.
Walking my way to where the staffs were all gathered, waiting patiently for me, I was forced to stop on my track, as my eyes met with someone, she looks familiar...
Chapter three
What's the celebration?
Eve POV
Stepping into our large office, my eyes almost popped out of their sockets, as I was welcomed with a weird sight. My colleagues were all looking different, especially the ladies. They all dressed nice, smelt nice, and added weird makeup to their faces. Ok, what's the celebration today?
Letting out a scoff, I shook my head, before walking over to my seat, and sitting down.
"Good morning Eve." Marian, one of my colleagues, greeted me with a smile on her face. Marian is the only close person I have in the company, she sometimes comes over to my place to keep me company, and whenever I feel bored at home, I do go over to her house too.
"Hey Marian, how're you doing." I smiled, as I turned on my seat, and faced her, but almost cringed, as I saw her on makeup too. Ok, I'm getting curious already, what the heck is going on here?
"What's the celebration today? I mean, you all are wearing some weird makeup, and some nice clothes too, from the look of things, I could tell that there's something important, so what's it? I don't want to be left out please." I pouted my lips while whining at her.
"Oh please, Eve don't tell me you don't know what's going on here." She gave me an 'are you serious' look.
For heaven's sake, if I know what was going on, I wouldn't be asking her this. I shook my head anyways.
"The CEO is said to have willed the company to his son, who is coming over to the company today, and like every other person, I want to look good, who knows, he may just notice me, and make me his Cinderella." She said dreamily while smiling like the fool she is.
What the heck is this world turning into? Just when I thought I had seen it all, then new madness keeps surfacing.
"Oh, I see." I shook my head unbelievably, before turning to my computer, and turning it on. Geez! I can't believe even she will join this silly competition or whatever they're doing.
The atmosphere suddenly tensed up, as I heard some funny sounds, filling the entire office, and I was forced to raise my head to check out where exactly the sounds were coming from but were met with the crazy scene of my life, as my female colleagues kept adjusting their clothes. Like what the heck!
"Can you all please focus, huh? I'm doing some work here, and for the love of God, you're damn disturbing me." I slammed my hands on the desk frustratingly, as I closed my eyes. Can this day be any good? First, it was that idiot from the traffic jam, and now these my annoying colleagues? Oh, heaven please save me, lead me not into frustration.
Someone nudged my arm, and I snapped my eyes open to yell at whoever it is, to leave me the hell alone, when I was welcomed by Mr. Liam, standing. Thank goodness he's here, I need him to call these fools to order. Can you imagine the nonsense?
"Oh it's a good thing you're here Mr. Liam, can you please tell these silly workers of yours, to focus on their works, and stop fooling around, huh?" I snapped, as I stood up and turned to face him.
"Eve!" He called sternly and tilted his head to his right side, and that was when I noticed the person, standing beside him, what! Jayden! When the hell did he get in here, huh?
"I didn't notice you were standing," I said simply, before going to stand with my colleagues, who were all standing, having dreamy looks on their faces.
He kept staring at me, with an unexplainable expression on his face, for some reason best known to him. Are we here for a staring contest or what? I don't understand.
"Hello everyone, meet the new CEO, Mr. Jayden Turner, he'll be taking over the company from his dad, and henceforth, will be our CEO." Mr. Liam introduced him.
"You're welcome, Sir." Most of the females kept squeaking in excitement while giving him a seductive look. Imagine nonsense.
I looked at them unbelievably and scoffed angrily.
He kept looking at them, making a straight face. This dude must be a proud peacock, look at the way he's looking at everyone like he's some important person. I just feel like slapping him.
"A lot of things are messed up here, so I'm going to start all over again, and set up the company, the way I want it to be." He said in a calmed but cold voice, and I couldn't help, but scoffed. Like seriously? Is he being serious right now? Even if he has to show his arrogance, must it be on his first day of being here? He can't even say a word of greetings to anyone, and he's here, saying some shit.
"A screening is going to be done on each staff, so I'll know who's worthy of staying here, and who's not." He said while tucking his hands into his pockets, while my stupid colleagues kept drooling at him dreamily like he's some god. Geez! Are they even listening at all?
"Yes Sir." They chorused.
"Good. Now I want you to start by introducing yourselves, and your profession here." He said, before taking his gaze to me. Why is he looking at me now?
They all took turns in introducing themselves and being the last person in the row, it finally got to my turn, and I grunt inwardly.
"I'm Evelyn Jones, working as an accountant." I drawled. Gosh! I don't know why I hate him this much, not that we've had an encounter before, but I can't stop myself from hating the idiot.
He gave me a look, which I can't seem to comprehend, and I couldn't help returning the look to him. He has been giving me this confusing look since he came in like he knew me from somewhere, or something of such, when I've not met him in my life, not even in my dreams, and I don't wish to ever see him in my dreams.
The sound of my ringing phone echoed in the office, and everyone turned their attention to me weirdly, like something unusual just happened.
Ok, why the heck are they all staring at me now?
