Chapter 1 I

Nervous tension filled the air as David entered the expansive office. A sudden hush fell over the room, and all attention was drawn to him.

His employees exchanged nervous glances and feigned concentration on their work.

Nobody wanted to get fired by him. David had once fired an employee who was sipping coffee on duty.

Leila who had now settled down with her eyes fixed on the computer before her, shifted her gaze to him. She was naive and unsure of what to do.

Her heart suddenly throbbed painfully. She was numb. It's as if her heartache had leeched all energy from her being.

She was hurt for no reason and it baffled her a great deal.

As she fixed David with a penetrating stare, she was of no doubt he held a notable position. His presence and composure spoke authority loudly.

He had two hefty bodyguards behind him.

"Meet Leila. Your new Secretary."

Adam politely introduced Leila to David who seemed quite uninterested.

David turned to face Leila. He stared at her with cold eyes.

His look struck her like lightning.

Her heart began to beat out of rhythm.

She was dumb in silence. At that moment, she forgot what to say. It's as if her memory froze. She wanted to remember something but she felt too weak to think.

David was expecting her to say something. But she stood there in silence.

He furrowed his eyebrows and shook his head as he headed to his office. The sound of a printing machine jolted her memory, and she remembered what had happened.

It was as though her mouth had been sealed.

She looked around to see if anyone was watching her. No one seemed to look at her side. They were all busy with their work.

She sat silently staring at the computer before her. It's as if the computer noticed the air of awkwardness surrounding her.

Her heart still knocked against her ribs. She had no idea what was going on with her.

If she had seen him before, where?

She was sure David was the CEO. His commanding presence said it all.

She pressed the heels of her palm against her eyes. She had no idea why her memory was so messed up.

She pursed her lips and looked around her again. She caught a blonde lady staring at her in the distance.

The blonde lady smirked and shifted back her focus to her work.

Leila felt she was not welcomed by the cold looks her coworkers occasionally gave her.

"You will get to love your new job."

Leila looked up. It's the blonde lady who smirked at her earlier.

"I'm Regina. Call me Reg."

She smiled at Leila adjusting her eyeglasses.

"Leila."

She returned the smile.

After a brief silence, she said.

"No secretary had lasted for two months. I bet you would quit or get fired at the end of the day."

Leila's face creased into a frown. She wasn't expecting that at all. She was utterly lost.

What was she talking about?

"No one will tell you the truth but I will."

Reg raised her eyebrows and shrugged.

Leila noticed the intent glare and pitiful looks around her. It's as if they were all saying the same thing with their eyes.

She was not the type to give up easily. She'd fight against all odds to keep her job.

The sound of a ringing telephone piercing the space made Reg scurry back to her desk.

Adam entered. He walked slowly to Leila who was now arranging some documents.

As he walked past Reg and the other six workers who now feigned very busy with their work, he threw them an awful glare that also meant a serious last warning.

"Leila right?"

"Yes."

Leila nodded affirmatively.

Even though Adam had not told Leila his name, he felt it was utterly unnecessary.

Everything was unnecessary for now except what he wanted to show her.

"Follow me."

He gestured to her.

Many questions crossed her mind.

Would he take her to the CEO?

Her heart began to beat out of rhythm as waves of fear and curiosity swept over her.

At this rate, she was afraid her heart would burst. She clutched her chest as though it would suppress the immense pain she felt in her heart.

Why the fuck was she feeling this way ever since she set her eyes on the CEO?

What had he done to her?

They took a lift to another floor and entered an office.

Amongst all that was on the large desk was a brass nameplate that said 'Supervisor Adam'

Leila gazed at the nameplate on the desk. She read the name out silently.

Adam gestured for her to sit while he worked on the printing machine.

He placed what he printed out on the desk before Leila and took his seat.

"You must abide by these rules."

He intoned tapping on the printed rules on the desk.

Leila took a confusing look at the rules.

"Take your time and go through it."

Leila looked back at him perplexed.

"Failure to abide by a rule can get you fired."

He added.

Leila kept glancing through the rules as if they were too difficult for her to comprehend.

She chuckled derisively.

Was this the reason Reg said she would get fired or quit at the end of the day?

Leila knew at that moment she'd quit work before the end of the day.

Adam fixed her a penetrating stare. No doubt, Leila was extremely beautiful, and that alone qualified her for the job.

If she could work well, she'd be compensated enormously.

Leila sighed exasperatedly. Her heart knew all along.

Her throbbing heart was a sign.

After all, her aching heart was telling her something.

She giggled.

The first rule and words on the list kept ringing in her head.

'You must surrender your body to the CEO, and he would do whatever he wanted to it.'

Did he mean sex or what?

Chapter 2 II

Leila was quite unsure what the rule meant.

She thought hard about it.

Her brain could only process one thing.

'Sex'

'What?'

"Why would I surrender my body to him?"

Leila asked Adam fixing him with a penetrating stare. She wanted him to provide a logical answer to her question.

How could that be included in a rule? That was absurd.

They could have hired a slut instead.

"That's the rule. I'm not the one who fixes the rules. The CEO fixed it."

Leila was stunned.

She hissed.

'The CEO must be a pompous bastard!'

Adam knew that look. It meant she was cursing David.

She darted an impatient look at Adam.

If sleeping with the CEO, was part of the rule, she would quit.

"Scrap that rule. He will not sleep with you."

He lied.

"Then why's it the number one rule on the list? How sure are you?"

Leila asked staring sharply at him.

"It's just to keep your mind ready for the job if you're willing to dedicate yourself to the job."

"Ladies get swayed by the CEO's good looks. They go crazy for him, and throw themselves at him."

He added.

Leila was speechless.

What did that mean?

What's her business with the women that threw themselves at him?

If they're dignified, they would not cheaply throw themselves at a man.

He's not special. She would gladly quit the job if she felt insulted by the CEO.

Adam did not want Leila to feel discouraged and quit without getting fired first.

He had lied to her and other secretaries before her.

Surrendering their body to the CEO was the most crucial part of the rule.

They would not escape it.

It's the reason having perfect and attractive physical features was part of the job requirements.

Adam read the other rules on the list. Excluding the first rule.

He had read these rules out to quite a lot of newly employed secretaries before Leila who were eventually fired.

He stressed each word as he read it out.

"You must not talk until he asks you to. Unless it's very important."

He cleared his itchy throat and continued.

Leila hissed.

Who did he think he was?

"You must be able to correctly tell his mood from his dress sense whenever he asks you to do so. He loves to express emotions through his dress sense."

Leila pursed her lips. She was losing patience.

"The CEO is a fashion enthusiast. You must learn and know everything about the fashion world.

Leila knew it'd be a long and hard journey for her. She's not prepared for all this at all.

And She's not even fashionable. She believed living a simple life didn't necessarily have to do with being fashionable.

"You must impress him with your dress sense and professional appearance."

Adam shifted his gaze to Leila's suit. It's not well ironed. She had a lot to do with her appearance.

"The expression on your face matters. Don't smile unnecessarily. What's there to smile at? Keep a straight face. It's professional that way."

Leila chuckled derisively.

Would there be any reason she'd smile at him?

She's getting tired already but she wanted to give it a try. The salary was encouraging.

Too many absurd rules. Her forehead creased into a frown.

Reg was right. She'd not last here.

Adam continued.

"Only knock twice on his door. If he didn't respond, just retrace your step.

When asked to come in, or when you're walking out of his office, please walk gently and quietly without making any sound."

Leila sighed.

"Is that all?"

She checked the list.

"That's all."

She wondered how many secretaries they had fired before they employed her.

Of course, they had to urgently fill the vacant position by employing her quickly even though she had not met all the requirements.

She'd try to abide by all the rules but she's not surrendering her body to him.

Adam was fed up with reading out rules to newly employed secretaries almost every week.

He silently prayed Leila would last for at least three months, without quitting or getting fired.

She was the third Secretary they had employed in the space of a month.

"What kind of person is the CEO?"

Leila wanted to know. Even though she knew for sure he was an arrogant person because of his absurd rules, she wanted to know if Adam had a different opinion about him.

Adam heaved a deep sigh.

He had been working with David for five years now. He could not clearly say the kind of person he was.

He knew that David loved to be pleased and did not care what anyone had to lose to please him.

Sometimes, he looked nice, and most times, he was bad-tempered.

"I don't think anyone cares to know what kind of person the CEO is. What's important is pleasing him and abiding by his rules."

Leila wondered how old David was.

At such a young age, he already owned one of the most popular clothing apparel companies in New York City.

He's an ambitious man. She would not dispute that.

"It's important We get you prepared before you start working for him."

without adequate preparations, she could get fired.

A knock at the door interrupted him.

A young man clad in a tailored suit entered. He was so muscular and tall.

"The CEO wants to see the newly employed secretary in his office now."

Adam stood abruptly.

His eyes widened.

"What? She is not prepared."

He said quietly.

Leila's heart rammed against her chest.

She's seeing the CEO?

So soon?

Adam stared at Leila intently.

He ran his hands through his hair and paced his office.

He had no doubt Leila would quit or get fired today.

David had asked the last secretary before Leila to strip naked and dance for him.

What if David asked Leila to touch his cock and sing into it like a microphone?

He would ask her to do something worse.

Chapter 3 III

Leila followed the young man.

She was restless. Thoughts whirled in her head, questioning if she had done something wrong.

Panic thrilled her deepest psyche as she knocked on the office door.

"Come in."

David said huskily.

She quietly opened the door and walked in.

She was not always this weak.

She was determined she would not allow herself to be afraid of him.

If others were scared of him, she'd stand out. The least he could do to her was fire her, and she was prepared for that.

But why was her heart pounding hard against her ribs now?

Why?

She wanted it to seriously stop.

She looked down, and couldn't look into his eyes.

She had no idea why she felt she'd be trapped in those ocean eyes of his.

She's before the almighty CEO who's greatly feared by all.

David's eyes traced her body. He crossed his legs as he stared briefly at his expensive wristwatch.

The awkward silence was killing Leila. She felt the urge to look up at him but she could not.

Was he studying her or what?

Why wasn't he saying anything?

"I was told you're Leila."

He broke the silence.

She finally looked up at him.

Her heart throbbed when she met his gaze.

He had a perfectly chiseled face and dark hair.

She felt shy and scared. What had come over her?

She nodded affirmatively.

"Come closer. Sit."

David gestured to her, never tearing his gaze away from her.

Leila was stunned.

She looked at the ergonomic chair and shifted her gaze back to him.

Her instinct told her it was unsafe to sit before him.

She appreciated the fact he was kind enough to offer her a seat but she was fine standing.

David pinched his eyebrows. He was annoyed already. He stared at his wristwatch again and furrowed his brows.

He gazed at her and faked a smile.

"Sit."

He intoned.

Leila was confused. She took a step forward at first.

He chuckled.

He's having fun watching her.

She silently and carefully took her seat making sure she made no sound.

She's closer to him now. His ocean eyes stared deeply into her brown eyes.

He grinned.

"I think I like you already."

Leila's eyes widened.

"You understand the rules. I'm sure we're getting along already."

Leila was amazed.

She wanted to smile but she remembered the rule. She kept a straight face.

She pursed her lips and nodded her head.

Her mouth opened to say something, but then she remembered the rule of not talking without permission.

She gasped instead.

"You know. I want to get to know you. Do you love fashion too?"

Leila was stunned. He wanted to know her.

She nodded her head affirmatively.

She lied.

She's not even fashionable.

David chuckled as she nodded.

He liked it as she had not spoken any word since she entered.

She's nothing like those rude secretaries he had fired.

Leila was different. He would so much love her to work with him.

Leila met his gaze.

It felt like she was enchanted. She could not take her eyes off him.

Her eyes were glued to his, and his to hers.

It's as though they were alone in this world, and nothing mattered again at the moment.

David had no idea what was there in her eyes he was staring at.

"Do you care for coffee?"

He broke the silence.

Leila shook her head. She was amazed.

She wanted to talk. Why had he not given her permission to talk?

David ignored her.

He stood and went to make coffee for two.

He brought hers and placed it before her on the desk.

Leila bowed her head to show appreciation.

Did he just make coffee for her? Probably, he was not as bad as she thought.

"You can speak now."

He sipped at his coffee while gazing at her face.

Leila felt relieved.

"You have a kind heart. Thank you."

Leila appreciated him.

David kept staring at his wristwatch incessantly.

He began to arrange his desk.

"I have a meeting with my clients now."

"Is there anything I can do to help?"

Leila asked.

Before he could respond to her, Someone knocked on the door.

"Come in."

Adam and the other two men in decent black suits entered.

Adam was shocked when he saw a cup of instant coffee before Leila.

He could not believe his eyes.

"Leila. Please excuse us. I'll see you later."

David said while sorting out some things on his desk.

Adam joined him as he exchanged glances with Leila.

Leila was about to leave without a cup of coffee when David called her back.

"Who's going to drink the coffee I made for you?"

Leila apologized and took it with her.

Adam was taken aback. David made coffee for his new secretary?

It's unbelievable!

Something must have happened between the two.

Leila placed the cup of coffee on her desk while she sat.

All eyes widened.

She was coming from the CEO's Office with a cup of coffee?

Leila had expected he'd be mean to her.

It was romantic of him to make coffee for her.

"Are you just coming from the CEO's Office?"

She looked up. It was Reg.

"He asked to see me."

She responded politely.

Reg glared at the coffee.

Leila knew she wanted to know about the coffee too.

"He made coffee for me."

He was not bad after all.

Reg chuckled and looked back at the other employees watching them.

She shifted back her gaze to Leila.

"What?"

She could not believe her ears.

The CEO she knew could never stoop so low to make coffee for an ordinary employee.

An ordinary employee like Leila.

Reg was angry.

She was so sure something was wrong somewhere.

"It cannot be!"

What if something had happened between them?

Reg was curious.

She furiously glared at Leila. She hated her already.

She would not share her man with her or anybody.
