My 21st Birthday Betrayal

Author: : Mi Lu
Genre: Billionaires
My 21st birthday gala was supposed to be a dream: my custom Tiffany gown, a perfect fiancé, a future as the Vanderbilt heiress. But a horrifying premonition shattered it, a vivid nightmare where my cousin Chloe stole my dress and my spotlight, while my fiancé Liam and even my own brother, Ethan, betrayed me. They' d condemn me to a forced marriage with Dimitri Volkov, a Russian oligarch' s volatile son, leading to my complete ruin and tragic end. I woke with a gasp, determined to defy destiny. My first moves were bold: humiliating Chloe publicly, slapping Liam, and forcing a groveling apology from Ethan. But my initial triumph was short-lived. Chloe, with Ethan's complicity, concocted a fake pregnancy to ensnare him, while Liam, desperate for family alliance, joined their despicable plot. Together, they orchestrated the slow poisoning of my beloved father, Harrison Vanderbilt, seizing control of his empire and pushing me towards the very Volkov marriage my vision foretold. How could my own kin commit such monstrous acts? The crushing grief for my father morphed into a cold, burning fury. They thought they had broken me, defeated me into quiet submission. They were wrong. Unknown to them, my father had armed me with a secret dossier and a network of loyalists. As I boarded the jet to Monaco, I was no longer a Vanderbilt heiress being shipped off; I was a predator, unleashed.

Chapter 1

The diamonds on the gown glittered, a thousand tiny stars against midnight blue silk, it was a dream, a Tiffany custom dream for my 21st birthday.

But the dream turned sour, fast.

In this vivid, horrifying premonition, my cousin Chloe wore my gown.

She beamed, soaking up the admiration meant for me, the Vanderbilt heiress.

My mild question, "Chloe, is that my dress?" was met with scorn.

Liam Astor, my fiancé, his handsome face twisted, called me petty.

My own brother, Ethan, the heir to Vanderbilt Holdings, told me to stop making a scene.

He said I was embarrassing Chloe, our guest.

Chloe, whose father, my uncle, died saving my father, Harrison Vanderbilt, years ago during a hostile takeover.

Chloe, taken in, raised alongside me, now stood there in my stolen glory, a picture of false innocence.

The premonition didn't stop.

It spiraled.

Ethan and Liam, hungry for a shady international deal, arranged my marriage.

To Dimitri Volkov, the volatile son of a Russian oligarch, a man with blood on his hands and a string of vanished women behind him.

My protests were silenced.

My reputation, shattered.

I was trapped, a pawn in their power games, my life ruined while Ethan and Chloe climbed higher.

Then, the premonition showed me my end, a bleak, tragic silence.

I woke with a gasp, my heart hammering against my ribs.

Sunlight streamed into my Manhattan bedroom, the morning of my 21st birthday gala.

The horror of the vision clung to me, cold and sharp.

But with it, a steely resolve formed.

This was not just a nightmare, it was a warning.

And I would not let it come true.

My father, Harrison Vanderbilt, adored me.

He was a shrewd man, a titan of New York real estate.

He wouldn't know the specifics of my premonition, not yet.

But I knew he had prepared for betrayals, for dangers.

A secret emergency trust, a dossier of information on his rivals, all for my protection.

Today, I would start using every weapon he'd unknowingly armed me with.

Today, the game changed.

Chapter 2

The premonition showed Chloe stealing my custom Tiffany gown, dazzling everyone.

It showed my mild rebuke, then Liam and Ethan siding with her.

It showed my ruin.

I sat up in bed, the details seared into my mind.

This morning, the gala was hours away.

I picked up my phone.

"Security, this is Ava Vanderbilt. My custom Tiffany gown for tonight, it's missing from my suite. I believe it's been stolen."

A pause, then, "Understood, Ms. Vanderbilt. We'll investigate immediately."

Next, I called my mother, Isabelle Vanderbilt.

"Mother, the Tiffany gown is gone."

Her voice was calm, "Don't worry, darling. I have something even better. A Vanderbilt heirloom, vintage, exquisite. It will outshine anything new."

She always knew.

The gala began. I descended the grand staircase of our Fifth Avenue mansion.

Not in the stolen Tiffany, but in a breathtaking emerald green gown, a cascade of silk and antique diamonds that whispered of Vanderbilt legacy.

Heads turned, murmurs followed.

Then, I saw her.

Chloe Hayes, my cousin, standing near the champagne fountain, preening in my stolen Tiffany gown.

Just like the nightmare.

I walked towards her, my steps measured.

The crowd parted.

"Chloe," my voice was clear, carrying in the sudden hush.

She turned, a surprised, then nervous smile on her face.

"Ava! You look... different."

"This gown," I said, gesturing to the diamond-encrusted blue silk she wore, "is a one-of-a-kind commission from Tiffany, designed for me. Its value is substantial."

I paused, letting my words sink in.

"Chloe, are you trying to pass yourself off as the Vanderbilt heiress tonight?"

Color drained from her face. Murmurs erupted.

Liam Astor, my fiancé, rushed to her side.

"Ava, stop this! You're being spoiled and cruel!"

His voice was loud, accusatory.

I turned to him, my eyes cold.

"You're addressing the daughter of Harrison Vanderbilt, Liam. Watch your tone."

Then, I slapped him. Hard.

The sound cracked through the ballroom.

Gasps.

Liam stared, hand to his cheek, speechless.

I turned back to Chloe, who looked terrified.

"As for you, Chloe, that is grand larceny. I should call the police."

"You wouldn't dare!" Chloe whispered, but fear was in her eyes.

"Ava! What is the meaning of this?"

Ethan, my older brother, stormed towards us, his face a mask of fury.

He grabbed my arm, his fingers digging in. "You're creating a scene! Apologize to Chloe! You're embarrassing our family!"

He intended to drag me away, to silence me, maybe even strike me.

"Let go of your sister, Ethan."

The voice cut through the tension like a blade.

Harrison Vanderbilt, my father, stood at the edge of the confrontation, his eyes blazing.

He strode forward, his presence commanding the room to silence.

He looked at Ethan's hand on my arm, then at Ethan's face.

"You dare lay a hand on Ava in anger?"

Ethan flinched, releasing me. "Father, she was..."

"Enough!" Harrison's voice was low, dangerous. "Your access to company funds is suspended. You will make a public apology to your sister. Now."

Ethan paled, then mumbled a forced apology, his eyes burning with resentment.

Father then turned to Chloe.

"Your allowance is cut. All privileges associated with this family are revoked. You will return that gown immediately. You are a guest in this house, Chloe, nothing more. Do not forget it again."

Chloe burst into tears, humiliated.

Finally, Harrison looked at Liam, his expression glacial.

"Mr. Astor. We will need to have a serious discussion about the future of our families' proposed alliance. Your behavior tonight has been... illuminating."

Liam looked like he'd been struck.

My mother appeared at my side, her hand on my arm, a silent show of support.

The nightmare was broken.

This was my new reality.
