Chapter 1 Pledge of Marriage

On Seacity Avenue, a black Maybach was shuttling in the night, and the heavy darkness outlined its deep silhouette.

"Mr. Moore, a call from the big mansion. You are invited there for dinner tomorrow evening." Zedd Brone's voice came from the back row.

Without looking up, Jason Moore spoke in a deep voice, "Decline with the excuse of the busy schedule."

Zedd hesitated, "It's just a blind date, and you've been declining. People in the big mansion will not give up. How about you meet her and reject once you don't take a fancy to her?"

"Is my rejection not clear enough?" Jason cast his eyes up and sounded impatient.

Zedd was left speechless.

Indeed, the CEO had rejected three times, which showed his determination, but his dear mother was persistent!

Children often failed to appreciate their parents' kindness!

Detecting the irritation in Jason's eyes, Zedd didn't dare to advise another word, "Mr. Moore, you need to go to the hospital for a reexamination tomorrow. I'll pick you up by then."

"Okay." Jason said blandly, put away his tablet, and closed his eyes for a rest.

For a new project of the company, he had been working more than 16 hours a day for half a month straight. Now he only wanted to sleep.

After the car drove into the parking lot of the Cullinan Moore Mansion, Jason got off and instructed, "Come back after 9 a.m. tomorrow."

"Got it."

Jason adjusted his clothes and stepped forward to the entrance when Zedd caught up, "Mr. Moore..."

"Hmm?"

"According to old Mr. Moore... he prepared a surprise for you in the mansion..."

Jason said nonchalantly, "I see."

He didn't need to think to know the so-called surprise from the old man should be selected videos and photos of his blind date.

Such kind of surprise had been going on for almost half a year, and the files about almost all debutantes in the City Sea Capital had been filling every corner of the living room.

"Zedd."

Jason called out to stop the fleeing man and asked, "How can I get rid of the surprises and dinner parties for good?"

"Get married, of course." Zedd blurted out.

"Do I need you to tell me that?"

Zedd replied, "Except that, there are no other methods?"

At a glance at the brightly lit mansion in the cover of night, Jason felt exhausted before waving Zedd away.

He was tired of the enthusiasm of his grandfather and mother but could do nothing about it.

Zedd was correct probably. Only through marriage could he end those silly surprises and dinner parties.

He took a glance at the living room behind the floor-to-ceiling windows and noticed a vague silhouette of a woman.

Her back was straight, her ponytail was pretty, and her blue coat gilded with a gentle hue by the lights. Following an inexplicable spur, he then knitted his eyebrows.

What trick the old man was playing this time?

Before this, he just got videos. Could it be that a person was sent here today?

...

Alison Clark had been waiting in the living room for three hours.

From 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., Jason never showed up.

During the long wait, she itched to leave many times but didn't have the heart to do it at the thought of the old man's tearful look.

"Jason has got cancer and can only live another six months at best. The kid is so stubborn that he lied to me, claiming it is just appendicitis... Alison, you are a good girl. I'm begging you to stay with him in the name of his wife for six months... If you could, I wish you can carry his seed..."

Jason once saved her while the old man provided financial support for her college study. Both of them were her benefactors.

Alison couldn't bear to refuse.

Besides, she had seen Jason's casebook. Indeed, his disease was incurable.

All of a sudden, Alison heard the sound of door opening and then the greeting from the servant, "Sir, welcome back."

"Mm."

There was a tinge of impatience and coldness in his attractive, deep voice.

Jason got up and anxiously looked in the direction of the door to the living room...

Chapter 2 In the Name of Wife

"A certain Miss Clark has been waiting for you in the living room for three hours."

Adela, the housekeeper, said in a low voice, "Old Mr. Moore sent her here."

"Tell her to go back." Jason sounded impatient, "I'll explain to my grandpa."

"... You won't see her?" Asked Adela.

"That won't be necessary."

Jason took a glance at the carved partition of the living room and saw the woman rising. Her figure was slender though.

"Tell the driver to give her a ride."

Following his words, Jason walked straight to the stairs. In a hurry, Alison trotted out and saw the tall figure of the man.

In a blue shirt and a pair of black trousers, he was holding the business suit that he took out. Viewing from behind, the man didn't look sick but in good shape.

"Jason."

Alison called out.

The man halted his steps before hearing her clear and pleasant voice again, "Can I talk to you?"

Jason turned back. The woman before his eyes had a slender figure, shiny eyes, soft features, and slightly curved lips.

Unlike those in the videos that he had watched, this woman didn't decorate herself much. Her makeup was light, and no earrings were on her earlobes.

But her bright eyes glittered like stars in the sky.

Alison held her breath the moment when she saw the man's face.

The man was very handsome and masculine.

His features looked pretty and sculpted. His eyes were as deep as cool pools in the mountains. The cold air about him was distant and indifferent.

Only the heavy dark circles under his eyes and his weary look resembled those of a sick person.

While she was in a daze, Jason said coldly, "About what?"

"About..." Alison pressed her lips to stifle the mixed feelings in her heart, "About our marriage."

"Marriage?" Jason frowned.

"You probably don't remember me. My name is Alison Clark. You saved me ten years ago and have transferred money to me in the past ten years..."

Upon hearing the woman's anxious explanation, Jason narrowed his eyes.

Ten years ago? That car accident?

Noticing the sudden grief and displeasure in his eyes, Alison knew that car accident was an unspeakable trauma for him.

So was it for her!

She would never like to remember it.

"In short, your grandpa told me to come, and I'm willing to marry you."

Alison plucked up her courage to make such remarks and knew there was no turning back.

To her surprise, the man in front of her laughed, but his eyes turned colder, "Getting married? I won't."

Alison was stunned. In joy, the corners of her lips curved up involuntarily, but the tearful look of the old man crossed her mind again the next second.

The curved-up lips soon went down, and she asked, "So, we should talk, in the living room?"

The woman's emotional change intrigued Jason. Since she was unwilling to marry him, why was she so persistent?

They took their seats in the living room across a row of sofas. Adela served tea and left. After a moment of hesitation, Alison decided to get to the point, "Grandpa already knew about your illness, so you don't need to keep it from him."

"My illness?" Jason arched his eyebrow, "What illness?"

"We are both adults and should be brave. I know that you can only survive another six months..." Alison admired her own bravery, "So, I'm willing to keep you company in the name of your wife."

Jason got her meaning, "Grandpa told you this? I have six months to go?"

"Yes." Alison pressed her lips, "But given the advanced medicine nowadays, you may still have a chance, so don't give up on yourself."

Chapter 3 Starting Today, She's Mrs. Moore

Jason was left speechless.

It was mere appendicitis. From where did the old man learn such a pathos trick?

"If that's the reason, you can go back now." Jason spoke in a clear voice, "I'm not sick and could probably live 99 years at least."

Alison didn't know what to say.

This man was so stubborn.

Given his weary and sick look, six months later was quite likely to be his last.

Alison spoke resolutely, "Anyway, I'm willing to marry you and stay with you until..."

She stopped there, but Jason took the hint.

Till death did them apart.

Interesting.

"Why?" Jason curled up his lips and slightly arched his dashing eyebrow, "To repay me through marriage?"

Alison stiffened a little. The smile of the man was so stunning. His thin lips slightly curved up, and there seemed to be ripples in his deep eyes.

In terms of appearance alone, she would like to have his photo on her marriage certificate.

Alison nodded decisively and resolutely, "Yes, I've brought my luggage and residence booklet, so we can get a marriage certificate at any time."

Amused by that, Jason fixed his eyes on the delicate face of the woman.

It was just a lie from his grandpa, but she firmly believed him and even acted so resolutely.

Was she dumb or playing dumb?

Or, she tried to marry into Moore Family at this excuse?

Either way, her reason and excuse were the most 'decent'.

They could get a marriage certificate at any time, right?

Jason suddenly remembered the conversation with Zedd.

"How can I get rid of the surprises and dinner parties for good?"

"Get married, of course."

Jason rubbed his fingers lightly. Compared with those his mother selected, this one was obviously more obedient.

"Okay, let's get the marriage certificate tomorrow morning."

If a marriage certificate could relieve his mother and grandfather, it was not a bad idea actually.

After they spent some time together, he believed the woman would show her true color!

By then, she would have her time crying.

At that, Alison lowered her head and spoke softly, "Okay."

What else could she do? She had been morally abducted and couldn't give up halfway. The depressed and painful look of the old man was something she didn't have the heart to see.

Near his end, the old man cried so bitterly in front of her. Really, she could not refuse.

Luckily, it was a matter of just six months.

As soon as the idea crossed her mind, she cursed herself, 'Alison, Alison, hold that thought, isn't it a venomous curse?'

What if he was cured and recovered?

"Well, we can sign a marriage agreement for six months. When we divorce, I will leave without claiming anything..." Alison offered.

Jason narrowed his eyes, "You mean if I survive over six months..."

"Then congratulations." Alison broke in, "That means you've recovered and certainly could choose your soul mate at your will."

Jason found the woman's approach even more confusing.

Was this a new trick of gaining sympathy through virtue or retreat for the sake of advancing?

He rubbed his third eye area when drowsiness kicked in. With a yawn, he got up, "Okay, deal."

Following his words, he walked straight away and instructed Adela who was waiting in a distance, "Fine her a guest room. Tomorrow, she will be my wife."

Hearing his teasing tone, Alison silently sighed to herself.

This man didn't look easy-going.

The following six months might be tough...

Since the man only had six months to live, and the old man told her that he had never dated anyone, Alison scoured the internet for 100 must-dos for a couple, printed them out, and bound them in a volume.

She intended to bring those wonderful experiences to him before he was no more.

The booklet was now in her bag, and the title was quite elegant: Romance Handbook.

But Alison was a little scared of the man's attitude.

Nevertheless, her first mission of becoming Mrs. Moore was accomplished.
