[DARK ROMANCE STORY] "Who sent you to me?" the man asked. His fingers traced every inch of Natalie's beautiful face. "No one." She remained expressionless. "Liar!" Mr. Vittorio grabbed Natalie's long hair with such force that she winced in pain. Tears finally dripped from her eyes. Natalie thought being imprisoned by her ex and losing her modeling career was the most horrible thing in her life. However, she was wrong. Being auctioned off and bought by Don Vittorio was far more horrifying than anything else!

Chapter 1 1. Auctioned

In a dark prison cell, a large, fierce-looking female inmate threw a bucket and a mop into a corner of the floor. She pushed another female inmate into the wall.

"From now on, you'll be the one doing this disgusting work. Aren't you so arrogant and consider yourself still a famous model? Rubbish!"

Natalie Hale, the woman who had just been violently pushed, unconsciously clenched her fists. The look in her eyes became cold. "You're no better than me."

A loud slapping sound rang out immediately. "You still dare to answer me, huh?!"

The anger and hatred in Natalie's heart grew even more intense. She held her red cheeks with a trembling body. Before she could return the slap, someone suddenly came over.

"You two, stop fighting! Miss Hale, come with me!" a warden ordered.

Natalie closed her eyes, trying to compose herself. She glanced coldly at her enemy before finally stepping up to follow the warden. Moments later, she was in front of an unfamiliar and mysterious man dressed in black.

She looked at him with a mocking expression. "Is it now possible for someone to bribe a warden to have a private meeting with a prisoner?"

The mysterious man smiled crookedly. "Miss Hale, don't you want to be free from this cursed place?"

The woman was silent.

He stepped closer, then whispered, "I can free you, darling."

The time passed quickly. Natalie sighed heavily at the memories. In just a few months, her life had changed. However, she regretted her choice.

"I'm not leaving," she said, standing with her head down. Her black hair partially covered her face.

"You must obey me, Natalie."

Natalie looked up immediately. "Are you out of your mind?" she hissed as she stared intently at the tall man before her. "I'm not something you can just sell!"

The man with scars on his face stared back at her coldly and sharply. His hand suddenly gripped her chin firmly. "So you'd prefer me to return you to prison?"

Natalie swallowed. Hearing the word "prison" brought fear to her heart. For two years, she had been in a dark and stuffy prison. There was no light, no fresh air. Every day, she was the butt of jokes for the other inmates. It was a terrible time in her life, and she didn't want to go back there.

If not for Lucas, she would still be behind bars. The man set her free. He changed her appearance and faked her identity. Now, it would be difficult for others to recognize her as Natalie Hale, a famous model who had been involved in a murder case.

"But why are you doing this to me? You never said that-"

"That I would sell you?" Lucas laughed mockingly. "Honey, don't be naïve! You even killed someone. Why are you acting like a stupid, innocent woman?"

Natalie's hands clenched into fists. She glared at the man. "I didn't kill anyone!"

The man smiled mockingly. His cold face showed no mercy whatsoever. "Don't be evasive, Natalie. You're a dirty, sinful, lowly woman. Do you think I set you free because I admire you?"

Pain hit Natalie's chest. She felt so bitter. Lucas was right. She was no longer a woman of prestige or worthy of admiration. She was worthless. No man would ever like her, let alone love her.

"Why me?" she whispered.

Lucas leaned over and whispered in her ear, "Because you're a woman who can kill someone."

Natalie immediately shook her head. She was becoming more and more afraid. Who was Lucas? She really didn't want to get involved with anything more horrible!

The man smiled at the fear on Natalie's face. He suddenly kissed her lips and then caressed her face admiringly. "I don't want all my efforts to change your face and identity to be in vain. So, you must be able to attract the attention of rich men."

"I never asked you to do that, damn! You did all that to me!"

Lucas smiled coldly. He waved his hand. Two of his subordinates approached and grabbed Natalie by both hands. She immediately screamed, "You can't do this to me, Lucas!"

"Be good, sweetie. Never forget where you came from," he warned.

Natalie gritted her teeth. The two subordinates then pushed her roughly toward the back of the auction stage. She tried to rebel, but they were much stronger than her.

"Stop rebelling, Miss Hale. It's useless!" taunted the subordinate man, who gripped Natalie's right hand.

"That's right. You should be happy because you'll be the object of desire for rich men," the other man chimed in.

"You're all assholes!" growled Natalie hatefully. It wasn't just them that she hated. It was the world and all of it. She hated herself, her life, cruel fate, and God's favoritism. Her heart felt cold.

"Remember, this time, your name is Cavendish Smith. Never let anyone know your true identity and how you got here!" they ordered coldly.

"What if I disobey?"

They snorted and looked at her sharply. "Do you believe our boss can wipe out your entire family? That younger sister of yours in London is no less beautiful than you. If she's a virgin, she's worth a fortune."

Natalie shook her head quickly. Her eyes glazed over, but she refrained from crying. Crying would only make her look more pathetic.

"Don't hurt my family," she whispered.

"Of course. As long as you obey, everything will be fine," they promised.

Finally, Natalie stopped rebelling. They let go of her hands. She took a deep breath and tried to lift her chin. Her feet, clad in black platform shoes, began to walk towards the auction stage.

'For the safety of my family,' she thought as she climbed the stage steps.

The auction hall was crowded with people. Some of the visitors were men who looked violent. They looked like gangster bosses, gamblers, drug dealers, or ruthless mafia bosses.

Natalie sat in one of the chairs on the stage. Nine other women also sat in a row not far from her. Some of them were crying and scared. However, some tried to look pretty to attract the audience's attention.

"Disgusting," Natalie muttered. She put on an unattractive, flat, and cold expression, hoping no one would be interested in buying her.

Moments later, the auction finally began. At the very back of the audience, two men had just arrived. They were neatly dressed in black suits and black coats. The latter wore a classic and mysterious black Homburg hat.

The hat man cast his gray eyes around before finally focusing his gaze on the auction stage. He noticed the ten women being auctioned off that night and scrutinized them individually.

"What do you think, boss?" asked the man beside him. "Those women have good looks. But you have to choose someone who is not fussy or chatty."

The man in the hat did not answer. A black-haired woman sitting with a flat expression fully occupied his attention. The extremely short black bodycon dress could not cover her sexy body. His eyebrows furrowed slightly.

The woman looked beautiful and seductive. She had a luxurious and expensive aura hidden behind her cold expression. Anger and hatred filled her gaze. She was very attractive, but something else caught his attention more.

"Her face is fake," muttered the hat man named Dante.

"What?" Alex stared at his boss uncomprehendingly.

"That woman in the black dress." Dante casually pointed at Natalie's figure, sitting immovably. "She looks familiar."

"You know her?"

Dante snorted, then smiled mysteriously. "Pretty sure. I think someone wants to give me a surprise gift. How about we play around with her?"

Alex, who was beside him, smiled. "Be careful, Don."

After a few sessions, the auction host walked to Natalie's side. The chubby man exclaimed, "And here comes the next lady! Cavendish Smith!"

The woman whom the host mentioned still didn't change her expression. She seemed to have no business with anything and anyone who was there. It was as if her world was separate from theirs. And that intrigued Dante even more.

"She is 29 years old, 175 cm, and 55 kg. She's no longer a virgin, but with a face this beautiful and a body this sexy, who wouldn't be satisfied?" The host introduced Natalie with a laugh.

"That means she's experienced in bed! Hahaha!" The audience laughed as they gazed lustfully at Natalie. No one could resist the charm of the former model's body.

Natalie secretly clenched her fists. She wasn't a chaste woman, but being publicly humiliated like that was an insult to her. She hated whoever was there. Her heart became so angry that she couldn't do anything about it.

"Let's start with $5 million!" The host mentioned the price, which was immediately met with cheers from the audience. After that, offer after offer came in.

"$10 million!" one visitor exclaimed.

"$15 million!"

"$17 million!"

Natalie took a deep breath, her body shivering. She had done her best not to attract attention, but they still wanted her. It must be because of her sexy dress. 'Fucking Lucas!'

She felt sad and scared. What if the person who would buy her was a cruel, evil person? Was this karma for her past?

She closed her eyes in resignation. At that moment, a man's flat, domineering voice rang out from the very back seat.

"$50 million."

Natalie's eyes snapped open. Everyone was silent. They turned to a man in a black coat sitting on a chair with crossed legs. His hands were in his coat pockets.

A hat partially covered the man's face, but one could tell how handsome he was just by looking at his sharp nose, firm jaw, and sexy lips. His expression was unreadable, making him look mysterious.

"Does anyone want to bid again?" the man asked calmly.

The audience fell silent. Anyone would be surprised to hear someone spending that much money to buy a woman at an auction. Where did the rich man come from?

The host coughed a few times. He finally asked, "Who wants to bid again? If there's no one, I'll count down."

The fat man then counted down, but Natalie was already out of focus. Her eyes were fixed on the man who had bid $50 million for her. She gave him an icy stare.

Suddenly, the man looked back at her. One corner of his lips lifted in a smirk. His mouth opened, and he spoke her name silently. "Natalie Hale...."

Natalie's face paled slightly. He recognized her!

Chapter 2 2. Don Vittorio

"Young lady, please follow me." An auctioneer said to Natalie after the whole auction was over. She gritted her teeth and then wordlessly walked after him.

The man escorted Natalie out of the auction house. A black SUV was waiting for her outside the exit. "Miss Smith, please."

Natalie tried to look calm. She opened the car door. The man in the hat, who had bought her for an outrageous price, sat in the passenger seat. He stared straight ahead.

"Get in!" he ordered without turning around.

The passenger seats were not separated, so Natalie sat right next to the man. She closed the door, and the car drove off. Not a word was said between them, and the longer it went on, the more uneasy Natalie felt.

Questions raged in her head. She silently glanced at the man next to her. Her action was somehow immediately noticed by the man. She immediately turned her face out the window.

Dante raised the corners of his lips. "If you want to know something, why don't you ask, Ms. Smith?" His voice sounded deep and sexy, full of allure and a hidden sense of danger.

Natalie feigned a smile and turned to the man. Unfortunately, the lighting was very poor, and she couldn't see his face clearly. Moreover, he was still wearing a hat.

"Who are you?" The question just slipped out of her mouth. She kept her demeanor calm so the man wouldn't think she felt threatened or afraid.

"I am your master," the man replied.

"Your name. Your dentity."

"You are not yet worthy enough to know it."

Natalie frowned. The man thought of himself as a master and probably thought of her as a slave. She was getting worried about her safety.

"Do you know who I am?" she asked cautiously.

"Aren't you Cavendish Smith?" The man smirked. "Or do you have another identity?"

Natalie immediately shut up. She saw the man pronounce her real name beforehand. Did she see wrong, and it was just an illusion amid her fear? She was worried that he was pretending not to know and wanted to trap her into confessing her true identity.

'I have to be careful,' Natalie thought. She didn't know what kind of man he was. His demeanor seemed better than Lucas's, but he exuded an inexplicably dangerous aura.

"You're right. I'm Cavendish Smith," she said, staring straight ahead.

The car sped through the streets of Manhattan towards Bronxville. Slowly, the hustle and bustle disappeared into the quietness of the night. The tall buildings gave way to the sight of large houses that were far apart from each other.

The streets are narrower. The air was colder. And Natalie's feelings became more restless. Ever since her ex had imprisoned her, she had decided not to get involved with a man. No matter who it was. Because a man could get her into a lot of trouble, but instead, she got involved with Lucas. And now with this mysterious man!

"Why did you buy me?"

The man suddenly touched the back of her hand. His fingertips trailed down her hand to her arm and then to her neck. "Didn't you want to come to me?"

Natalie's body shuddered slightly when the man's hand touched and caressed her nape. She dodged to the side. "I don't understand what you mean."

"Really?"

"Can you let me go?" asked Natalie earnestly. "I'll pay your money back. It's not a hard amount for me."

Yes. Because she wasn't poor.

The man chuckled. "Aren't you in too much of a hurry?"

"No."

"I haven't even tasted your flavor yet." Dante suddenly pulled Natalie close. His left hand grazed her smooth, bare back.

Natalie's body stiffened. She resisted his hand, preventing him from touching her more. Then he suddenly gripped her chin with his right hand. In the dark car and such proximity, she could vaguely see his glowing gaze full of menace.

"Don't refuse me, Cavendish. Every inch of your body is mine."

Natalie trembled with anger. "Asshole," she hissed.

"Say it one more time."

"Ass-ahh...!" She winced as he gripped her jaw firmly, as if to crush her. However, it was only momentarily, as he immediately let go.

"Ah, sorry, I didn't mean to." Dante stroked her jaw. "That's not how you call me, darling," he whispered. "Call me Master. Do you understand?"

Natalie didn't answer. Her face was slightly pale. Goosebumps were on her skin. It turned out that the man was no better than Lucas. He was even more terrifying!

Dante smirked, sensing Natalie's fear. His hands probed her body again, and he found no weapons. The woman was clean. Finally, he pulled away from her. Just then, the car they were traveling in arrived at their destination.

"Boss, what about the plan to go to Las Vegas?" asked Alex, who was in the front seat.

"Talk about that later. I need to talk to Tomas. That idiot!" Dante snorted coldly and then gave Natalie a quick glance. "Take her and arrange all the arrangements!" he ordered, opening the car door. He drove into the mansion and left them there.

Alex quickly got out of the front seat and opened the door for Natalie. "Miss Smith, please."

Natalie got out of the car. She could see a huge, classic pre-war mansion. The walls were all dark. The place might be antique and stunning, but it didn't look pleasant at all.

She walked after Alex while hugging her arm. It was almost midnight, and she only wore a very short sheer bodycon dress. The night breeze touched her bare skin, making her cold.

They passed through the entrance, which two tall and large muscular men heavily guarded. They wore black clothes and had fierce faces. Natalie became increasingly wary of the identity of the man who bought her. Who could he be?

The mansion was spacious and quiet. The interior was as classic as the exterior. The floor was black marble. The walls were painted ivory. There was a fireplace and a classic wooden mini bar. The layout looked confusing for a newcomer.

Alex escorted Natalie to the bedroom on the second floor. The room was large, but very empty. There was only a bed and an empty dressing table. It looked like an unoccupied room.

"Miss Smith, this will be your room. If he's happy, you'll get other, more complete facilities."

Natalie didn't care about the room's facilities. She only cared about her fate. "May I know who he is?" she asked.

"You'll find out in time. But ...." Alex gave Natalie a deep look. "Don't play games with him. Don't make mistakes that make him feel unhappy. His temper is a bit bad."

"A bit bad?"

The handsome, curly-haired man smiled. "Good night then." He immediately closed the door and left her alone.

"What should I do now?"

Natalie frowned. Running away might be a solution for her. However, she couldn't do it now. Why? Because the mysterious man would demand his $50 million back from the auction house, and Lucas wouldn't stand for it.

Finally, Natalie just sat on the edge of the bed, feeling uneasy. She couldn't sleep. Instead, she was on high alert for fear that the man would come.

An hour passed. The sound of a car suddenly came from the mansion's courtyard. Natalie frowned. She hurried over to the wood-framed window. The blinds were slightly open-a good place to peek.

A car stopped on the mansion's lawn. Two men dressed in black came out of the front door. They opened the back door and dragged a middle-aged man out roughly.

Natalie's eyes widened at the sight of the middle-aged man. "Isn't he the owner of the auction house?"

Lucas had previously taken her to meet the owner of the auction house. Natalie didn't know exactly what they were talking about. But she naturally recognized him.

Then, the men in black pushed the auction house owner into the mansion. Curiosity arose in Natalie's heart. What was going on?

She hurried to the bedroom door and tried to open it. It was unlocked! She carefully peeked out. The atmosphere on the second floor was quiet, but there was a commotion downstairs. That made her even more curious.

Natalie walked silently towards the stairs. As she got closer, she could finally hear more clearly what the conversation was like downstairs.

"Sir, please don't get angry! I really didn't find anything strange during the auction!" shouted Tomas, the owner. He sounded panicked.

"You know this gun can put a hole in your head if you lie?"

Natalie's heart skipped a beat after hearing the threat from the house owner's mouth. Did the mysterious man dare to kill someone here?

"Sir, I'm really not lying!" Tomas shouted in fear.

"Then what about the woman I bought?"

Natalie became wary. Her hand unconsciously gripped the stair railing firmly.

Tomas didn't answer the question right away. That made Dante angry. He kicked his leg so hard that the middle-aged man fell to his knees.

"Mercy, boss!" he shouted through the pain.

"Don't you have a mouth?!" Dante's voice boomed throughout the room.

"That... that's a guy named Lucas Alexander! He sold it, but I don't know him!" Tomas shouted. "Is there something wrong? Please don't punish me!"

"Fool! Absolutely useless!" Dante growled. "Alex, investigate Lucas Alexander! And Tomas, don't expect to go free. Any of my sloppy subordinates won't be able to escape punishment!"

After that, the sounds of blows and cries of pain rang out all the way upstairs. Natalie had goosebumps. Why was he so rude and cruel?

Natalie also didn't understand why he was being so careful, while she herself didn't have any purpose there. It was purely an auction. Did he think she wanted him to buy her?

'Ridiculous,' she mocked. She was about to step back, but suddenly Tomas' voice rang out again.

"Mercy, please!"

"Please, forgive me, Don Vittorio!"

Don!

Natalie's eyes widened. Her face turned pale. How did she fall into the hands of a mafia lord?

Her feet unconsciously stepped backwards. At that moment, someone suddenly tapped her on the shoulder from behind. "Who are you?"

Chapter 3 3. Be My Girlfriend

Natalie gasped. A woman wearing the uniform of the head housemaid stood behind her, looking alert and probing. She was about 40 years old.

"I..." Natalie felt scared and confused. She glanced downstairs and then quickly shook her head. "Can you-"

"Of course!" The head maid interrupted loudly and gave her a sharp look. She grabbed Natalie's hand and dragged her downstairs. "Sir, someone's looking for you!"

Dante sat in a large, classic armchair made of velvet. Alex stood beside him, while in front of him, a subordinate was beating Tomas mercilessly. The man with the surname Vittorio looked like a king watching over them with a cold heart.

"Miss Smith, please help me!" shouted Tomas, whose body was already battered. Seeing Natalie was like seeing an angel to him. He tried to crawl towards her, but Brent's subordinates immediately kicked him to the ground.

"Why are you doing this?" Natalie asked Dante cautiously. She was still a little taken aback by the head maid, who pulled her to face Dante. That middle-aged woman was really annoying.

"And why did you come looking for me?" Dante asked back. He took off his homburg hat, revealing his dark black hair. His face was finally fully exposed.

For a moment, Natalie was speechless. Don Vittorio looked foreign to her, but his good looks were no less than those of world-class models and celebrities. The man who was in his thirties had gray eyes that were as sharp as an eagle and sexy lips that were his best feature. Her ex-boyfriends were a far cry from this man.

"I think we need to talk," Natalie said.

Dante narrowed his eyes. "Do you want to save this guy?"

Natalie snorted. Tomas had absolutely nothing to do with her. His safety was none of her business. She just wanted to find a topic, so Vittorio wouldn't suspect she'd been caught eavesdropping on them.

"You can do whatever you want to him," she said impassively.

"Miss Smith, you!" Tomas became even angrier. "Who is Lucas? You have to tell Mr. Vittorio!"

"I don't know him," Natalie replied, her face remaining flat.

"Impossible!" Tomas growled in disbelief. "He's the one who brought you to the auction! You must know his identity!"

Natalie gave Tomas an unhappy look. She turned to Dante and found him cocking his head as he stared at her. He raised one corner of his eyebrow, waiting for her to say something.

"I just know his name is Lucas Alexander," she said.

"Really?" Dante smiled. A dangerous smile. His right hand spun a black object that made Natalie's body tense. It was a gun. "So, how did you meet him?"

"He tricked me."

"Oh?"

Natalie gritted her teeth. The man didn't believe her, and she had to think of the right answer. "Lucas picked me up from the slums. If I'd known he would sell me, I never would have gone with him."

"Nonsense! You don't look like you came from the slums." Tomas didn't believe her. "Tell the truth! Why do you have to lie? Could it be that you have some intentions?"

"Tomas, don't forget that you are the one who let Lucas sell me at auction!" Natalie yelled. "You took a bribe from him!"

Tomas's eyes immediately bulged. "Cavendish, you really..."

Click!

Whoosshh!

A bullet whizzed through the air past the side of Natalie's face. Her eyes widened. Right after that, Tomas' scream echoed throughout the room. Red blood splashed and dripped onto the floor.

Tomas bent over while clutching his bloodied arm. He almost fell, but Dante's subordinates immediately pulled him to his feet. His face was already deathly pale, and he could only stare at Dante with trembling lips.

"I don't need someone unfaithful. Take him away!" Dante ordered coldly. His subordinates immediately pulled Tomas away.

Natalie trembled on the spot after seeing what had happened. She hadn't expected that Dante would actually dare to fire a bullet. The gun with the silencer helped him commit crimes freely. She was becoming more and more afraid.

Suddenly, Dante stood up from his chair. He smiled and walked slowly toward Natalie. Each step was like a grim reaper ready to take the life of his target. Unconsciously, she stepped back.

"What are you going to do?" asked Natalie warily.

The man smiled, looking more and more dangerous. He caught the wrist of Natalie's hand and gripped it. "If you're not lying, why should you be afraid?"

Natalie cursed silently. Who wouldn't be afraid of a man who had shot and wounded someone right in front of their eyes?

"I'm not lying. I don't know who Lucas is. And I don't want to be here." She emphasized every word.

Dante's left hand caressed Natalie's smooth cheek. He had deliberately shot Tomas in front of her to warn her. She had to know that he could be cruel, and he wouldn't hesitate to torture anyone who dared to mess with him.

"I've bought you, so you should be here." He lifted her chin, making her look at him. Unbidden, his lips pressed against hers, making her flinch momentarily.

"Go back to your room. We'll talk again tomorrow."

Natalie immediately stepped back. She hurried up the stairs and back to her room before Dante changed his mind. At least she knew what kind of person was buying her. She had to start thinking of an escape plan and strategy.

The night passed in a blur. Natalie fell asleep in bed without a blanket. The next morning, she was awakened by the head maid, the woman who had confronted her with Dante last night.

"Miss Smith, I've prepared some clothes for you. After your bath, I'll take you to see Mr. Vittorio."

"What's your name?" Natalie asked.

"I'm Cora," the head maid replied.

Natalie didn't say anything else. She didn't like Cora and had no intention of having a fake relationship with her. After showering and changing her clothes, she quickly left the room.

Cora led her to another room on the second floor. The black door was tightly closed. The middle-aged woman knocked a few times. "Sir, I have done my duty."

"Let her in!"

"Please...." Cora invited Natalie in. Her demeanor was polite, but that still didn't make Natalie like her.

Without saying anything, Natalie immediately opened the door to Dante's room. The sight of a man lying on the bed in a long black shirt entered her vision. She looked at him expressionlessly. "Why did you call me?"

"Come closer."

Natalie remained in place until Cora finally pushed her way in. After that, the door to the room was closed loudly from outside. She cursed silently, 'Damn Cora!'

Dante smirked coldly. He nonchalantly unbuttoned the top button of his shirt and got out of bed. "Last night's situation was a little unpleasant, but now is as good a time as any."

"What do you want?" asked Natalie without preamble.

"Cavendish Smith, why are you still pretending? It's just me and you here," Dante said as he stepped closer. "Do you want to find out about my business and thwart it? Or maybe you want to harm and kill me?"

Natalie immediately frowned. "I don't understand what you mean."

A mocking smile appeared on Dante's lips. "I hate liars and cheats."

"If you suspected me like that, why didn't you let me go?" Natalie asked with her head raised.

"Even if you want to kill me, I still won't let you go." Dante smiled coldly. His hand touched Natalie's nape and stroked it. "One cannot come and go freely from my side," he whispered.

Natalie's hair stood on end. She couldn't say anything. The man in front of her was full of menace. His sharp, dangerous aura would make anyone near him feel small and insecure.

"What exactly do you want from me?"

The man looked at her expressionlessly. "Regardless of who your true identity is and how you came to appear at the auction, I need a woman like you for a few things."

"What's that?" Natalie did not understand.

"Be my girlfriend."

"Impossible!" She refused outright. Suddenly, the man pushed her shoulder so hard that her back hit the door. It was painful. She looked at him angrily. "What are-"

Before Natalie could finish her rant, the man kissed her roughly on the lips. His left hand gripped her right hand firmly. The look in his eyes became cold and sharp.

"Not only are you going to be my girlfriend, you're also going to pretend to be my fiancée."

"You're dreaming. I'm not willing to act and pretend for you!" growled Natalie, holding back anger. She tried to release the man's grip, but he only tightened it further. "Let go of my hand!"

"Obey me, or I will make you taste another dark prison."
