Chapter 1 One

Tyler's POV

A ray of sunlight streaked through the tinted glass window and I squinted reaching for a pillow. My bed felt sturdier and Instead of a pillow I came in contact with a warm, breathing body and realized I was still in the hotel.

Memories from last night flashed through my head and the blonde head I had eventually come in here with yesterday, Sunday nights were best for hot sex.

Shit, it's Monday! As the realization hit me, I stood up immediately and the girl stirred. I didn't bother to know what she was feeling. I slipped on my pants and looked for my shirt in the heap of clothes lying on the cold floor of the hotel room.

"Good morning," the girl murmured and I smiled tightly knowing I didn't have to have any form of conversation with her.

I found my wristwatch and a quick glimpse told me it was ten minutes till seven. I have a life and I'm returning to it.

"We had great sex last night. I thought you'd at least ask to exchange contacts." The girl said and I remembered her name was Miranda. I bent down and picked up my coat from the floor, I threw her dress for her and when I saw that I was ready I turned to her.

"I would have, but I have a fiancée. Thank you for the great sex," I blew her a kiss and picked up my phone walking out of the crappy hotel room.

I climbed down the stairs and quickly placed a call to my assistant, he picked up on the first ring.

"You called me a hundred times." I snapped and I heard him grunt before he responded.

"Good morning to you too sir," David replied and the background noise told me he was already at work.

I flagged down a cab because I remembered telling my chauffeur to return home with the vehicle last night.

"Why have you been calling?" I asked again and he sighed.

"Files are piling up and your mother called, she said there's neglect in the bar," David said, he sounded like he was reading straight from the tab he always has with him. "Also, your fiancée has called five times."

I sighed as the cab pulled up in front of the Nelson mansion, it was properly illuminated and the plants surrounding it were in order. I trust Tilly to make sure of that. I gave the cab driver a ten-dollar bill and continued the call.

"So what do you want?"

I finally asked him, as I climbed the stairs and landed on the terrace. The butler was standing at the large doorway and he bowed in greeting as I passed him, I wondered if he also could smell the bad odor that was seeping from me, it was a bad mixture of alcohol and sweat. I knew I needed a deep bath.

"Please get to the office as fast as you can, Miss Rose just got here and doesn't seem to be leaving here anytime soon," David said in a hushed tone and I knew she was probably throwing a dramatic tantrum.

"I'll be there as fast as I can." I lied and I heard a crash. "What was that?"

David's breath came faster. "It's your fiancée, she's destroying souvenirs! Please make it fast."

Elsa's POV

I had little admirable quality traits but no one could deny I was an early riser. It was a little dark out which led me to start an impromptu cleaning spree.

The little loveseat that occupied my vast living room was shifted to the doorway and I was fervently mopping the ground. It had been only me in the house for the past week but I still felt that obsessive need to clean, Fiona liked to say I had OCD but I knew it was not particularly so.

My speaker's volume was set to the highest volume and I was jamming Taylor Swift and basking in the unreal feeling of heartbreak, although I had never experienced heartbreak I was familiar with the consequences and what it allowed one to do, I had a clear example growing up.

My phone rang and I rushed to pick it up from my kitchen cabinet, a smile formed on my face when I saw it was Fiona.

"Just when I was thinking of you," I said immediately I picked up the phone and she giggled.

Fiona was my only friend, I enjoyed her company and we shared everything but the same location, and that was just a recent development.

"Early Monday morning and she's thinking of me, I feel special." She giggled and I scoffed, placing the phone in a small cup holder as I continued to clean my dingy apartment.

"Don't feel too special, I saw dirt and you came to mind" I teased and she laughed.

Throughout my whole aggressive childhood, she had been the only reliable substance in my life, so it was no surprise that we remained together.

When she had gotten a job in the leading companies in California I decided it was time I settled the ghost of my past so I could properly move on.

"Dirt is basic, do you think I'm basic?" She asked feigning shock and I laughed out loud, the most excited I had been for a while. My mood was even more gloomy than this shoebox apartment I had to stay and make a home.

"I wish I did. Why did you call?" I asked her, I could hear the background noise and I knew she was brewing coffee. "Are you at work?"

She sighed, she knew she was busted. "Yeah, I got here ten minutes ago."

"You're overworking yourself! Don't tell me that bastard broke up with you?" I asked her, realizing setting in. The only time she was extra invested in work was when she was experiencing a breakup and that was almost always.

"It's nothing. Just a break, I called to ask if you've received any mail from the bar, I don't think you're still sane as you've not been working. You've been there for three weeks now!"

"It's been peaceful. I have had time to rethink if I want to go through with this." I lied and she knew me so well to miss the lie.

"I know you're lying but my boss just walked into the office so I have to go, by the way. He's been very nice to me lately, I will tell you all about it later. "she said excitedly and before I could respond the line went off.

Classic Fiona.

I was replacing the phone on the mug holder when it beeped, alerting me of a new message. I opened it once again and I saw it was a new inbox, my heart developed a mind of its own and started pounding in anticipation, I wanted it to be from the Bar so bad and for some reason it was.

I was quiet as my eyes scanned through the words, there was a bubbling joy in the pit of my stomach and one would not believe it was a summa cum laude student in business management that was getting excited over being employed to work in a bar.

I Let out an excited yelp and did a little jiggle with my hips before resettling down.

It was not just any bar, it was the bar of my worst enemies, the bar where it had all started, the same pub he had told my mother that it was where he fell in love with another woman, the same woman whose family owned the stupid drink house!

"Color me red!!" I squealed as I suspended my cleaning and ran up to take a bath. I was going to go on that personal tour I have been postponing.

The water poured on me and I couldn't stop the thoughts from flowing, when he had left in the name of following his heart my mother had become a shadow of herself. I grew to know a love-struck mother and an estranged father, at some point, we stopped hearing from him.

Fiona and I went for our final year seminar and a speaker mentioned healing, I knew I had to heal my way before I could move on. Arriving in New York I knew Brooklyn was the only place I could stay, it was where I would start.

Sky Bar needed an employee and I had applied to be a bartender. Slowly and gradually I would seep into their system and cause more damage than they had to my family, but first, let me take a shower.

Chapter 2 Two

Elsa's POV

Choosing an outfit for my first day at work in a bar was much harder than I imagined. I majored in business management and not bartending so finding a short skirt with ruffles and a cheerleader-type skirt was going to be hard.

I drew out a leather jacket from my wardrobe but when I remembered the amount my ex-boyfriend bought it I immediately returned it. I have heard of people being overqualified for job positions and my portfolio already said enough about that, I wasn't going to risk it.

"Shit shit shit," I muttered as I hurried to find my phone in the pile of clothes on my bed. I wasn't a device person so I carelessly placed them, I knew I had to be better in that aspect since Fiona and I were now functioning long distance.

Her raspy voice came on and I felt instantly relieved. "You sound hushed! What's going on?"

"I can't find a suitable outfit to wear for my first day at work. I hope to meet Mr. Boss today but I heard he's not always there, he works in the main office."

"Okay, what are you complaining about now? Mr Nelson or what to wear?" Fiona clarified and I returned on track.

"Outfit. These here are either running and home clothes then two hundred thousand two piece professional clothing. Did I ever really need this much clothes?" I asked her and she chuckled.

I pulled out a pair of jeans trouser I thought was plausible and returned the call.

"I think I found some good jeans. What shirt do I wear!" I asked her and she seemed to be lost in thought as she was quiet for some time.

"Do you still have the Coca-Cola shirt I have you for Cola Fest?" She asked and I nodded seeing her vision. I immediately went to the section I usually left it and pulled it out, it was new and appropriate.

"Thank you so much, I love you, bye," I said and cut the call before she could say anything.

I slid into my Jean trousers and buckled my fly.

I quickly folded the heap of clothes on my bed before putting on the fancy red shirt.

"Brooklyn here comes Elsa," I said into the mirror, smiling deviously at the beautiful reflection I was seeing.

******

I didn't feel as confident as I had when I left my house, I felt spooked out. Sky Bar was large and almost intimidating, it made a lot of sense and it was classy. I started to rethink my decision to come casual.

"We're here. Pay up ma'am, it's New York don't be looking for too long them' men will call the cops on you." The taxi man yelled over the roaring noise of the busy traffic.

"I don't want to steal from 'them men' so they should probably zip up their pants, you should too," I muttered and threw a five-dollar bill at him, he raised his middle finger at me before driving off to join the traffic.

A security man stood at the entrance munching away on donuts. What was with security personnel and donuts?

"Welcome to Sky Bar!" Cliff, the security guard, greeted me and I smiled at him. It was written in cursive on his blue uniform and he had a cheeky smile on.

I nodded and walked past him, I was not the most friendly person in the queue and I knew that.

The bar was occupied and it made me wonder why grown men, and women were out drinking gin on a Monday morning. It was too early to be drunk, or maybe it was just the sober nature of her major that allowed her to think that way.

"Why don't you look where you're going?" An angry customer asked as he passed me by, we hadn't even touched at all but I guessed you had to transfer your rage and aggression to the nearest potential bartender.

"And try to use more cologne," I muttered.

The guy behind the counter was busy when I got there but he made sure his wide smile welcomed me.

"Welcome to Sky Bar, what would you be having?" He asked and I smiled, my cheeks felt weird.

"A job. I'm here for the position of a bartender." I explained to him and his smile widened.

"Nikos is not in today so Elise would be receiving you, back door, far right, first door. Good luck." He muttered and returned to mixing alcohol.

I went to the back and followed his orders just as he had explained. A woman dressed in red was seated behind the desk as I entered her head shot up, and she looked at me strangely urging me to speak.

I cleared my throat. "Hello, I'm Elsa Forbes, I am here for a job position, I received the confirmation email just yesterday," I explained to her and she brightened.

The meeting went well and by the end of it, she handed me an apron and a change of shirt then ordered me to the reception. I lied I had previous experience with working in bars but it was just me volunteering in my school's coffee shop.

"The name is Alonso, welcome to our world of crazy." The guy at the bar introduced himself to me as I awkwardly stood next to him.

"I'm Elsa, and I don't know what to do," I responded and we both laughed, it seemed like we were going to hit it off well.

He handed me an apron and instructed me to wait at as many tables as I could.

The door chimed and I watched as a man dressed all in black with stubbles and hair that fell over his face came in.

It was always the odd ones that were present in bars by this hour of the day.

I walked over to him and braced myself, I was going to tame my mouth, no need to be mean.

Tyler's Pov

I hated two things, one was being scolded about work and two was my mother's presence.

I had shrugged into a black shirt intentionally left my beard stubble, and headed to the bar. I needed explanations from them and they were forcing me to station my office here again.

I sat down at the back of the bar, waiting for Nikos, he said he wanted in and I was going to wait till he got here.

"Good afternoon, welcome to Sky Bar. What would you be having?" I looked up to find a pretty girl standing over me, she had the bar's apron and a Coca-Cola shirt peeking from beneath it.

I didn't know who she was and I suspected she didn't also know me, for the mere pleasure of it I decided to play along and maybe flirt a little. I was never too bored of a girl.

"Oh hello love, I don't know you." I smiled at her, she had a stubborn look in her eyes which didn't falter even with the smirk I was giving her.

"I guess you wouldn't. I can tell you're a regular here" she said in a condescending tone, and I chuckled.

She didn't have a name tag like all the other staff and her hair was perfectly made, not like the ponytails the female staff usually had.

Who was she?

"Calm your tigers pretty," I mumbled, my eyes sweeping from her head to toe, she didn't look the least bit moved, only stood with her hands wrapped around her chest.

"What are you going to be having?" She asked me instead and I shrugged,

I didn't plan to take anything, I didn't like to drink before five PM. I also didn't judge those who did because how else was my business supposed to blossom, but this lady here apparently did.

"Go over to the bar and tell Alonso there that I'm here," I said to her and she looked at me for a while before walking away, I could tell she used a certain amount of patience to not snap out of me. I already found her interesting, whoever she was.

I watched as Alonso sighted me and waved at me, she turned to look at me as he said something to her, and I saw her expression change from surprise to shock and finally to something I recognized as held in hatred and anger.

Who was the girl? At that moment I didn't care to know, I was already attracted to her and would stop at nothing to get her.

Chapter 3 Three

Elsa's POV

I watched with held-back anger at who I now knew was someone I harbored great negative emotions for, Alonso had immediately been on alert when he sighted him, he quickly told me he was the owner of Sky Bar, and the CEO of the whole Nelson Franchise, Tyler Nelson AKA The son of my worst enemy.

I wanted to scold myself for not recognizing the face that I had memorized for most of my adult years. Every time I had seen his or his mother's face on the TV I had carried the hopes of spitting on both of them when I finally did meet them, but it was his stubble and overgrown hair that had been the one to confuse me.

He was handsome, darkly and dangerously, never the type I went for and it annoyed me that I had not been prepared to see him today.

"He usually has dry gin but not until later, he doesn't drink in the morning. He's probably here for Nikos. Try to make a good impression. He's strict, fires staff on sight, it was the fate of the last staff that's why we're short on staff and had to hire." Alonso explained and on sighting a new customer he returned to his station.

I watched as he started the coffee machine. I groaned at the thought of having to face the son of my worst enemy in the most awkward way possible.

"Where's my drink?" Tyler asked as I returned to his table, a mocking look in his eyes. I stared at him with unhidden disdain, my lips pouting in a frown.

It was through clenched teeth that I finally answered him. "Forgive my ignorance, I only started today."

"I can tell, your Coca-Cola merch shirt is not the bar's uniform." He responded, his voice was cold but his eyes had a weird glint that I knew if situations were different would have probably attracted me, baby blue and warm, it had this childish glint that made me feel almost receptive towards him, almost.

His gaze ran over me again and I wanted to punch him in the eyes and beat his handsome face to a pulp but it wasn't going to do anything to deny the height of hatred I reserved for his family.

"So I guess I can go now?" I asked him, fluttering my lashes.

My plans were not to create a professional relationship with him, it was in fact to change the whole trajectory of his life and do exactly to him what his dear mother had done to my father. Blind and destroyed.

"No. Stay!" He said quickly as I turned to leave, I turned back to look at him, allowing my hair to swish backward.

"What?" I asked him, almost casually, succeeding in hiding the hateful look I had carried on my face.

"Sit with me, Elise is the most incapable of my staff. I need to know if she hired a thief." He drawled, running his hands in a most natural way through his hair, although it fell right back, he would do it more times throughout our snide conversations.

"What is your name?" He asked me with a tinge of flirtatious disposition. I leveled my gaze and stared at him with all the hauteur Fiona always advised me to do away with and he slightly raised his brow, challenging me not to respond.

I sat down and smoothed my skirt before looking at him and answering. "Elsa, Elsa Forbes."

"Elsa," he tested the name on his lips and narrowed his eyes. "It doesn't sound like the name of someone who works in a bar. I mean, Sky is the most prestigious bar around, but it still suits only those like Alonso.

"What's your story?" He asked, sounding casual as he spewed the most condescending thing I've ever had.

"I need a job and I believe I am qualified for this one so I applied," I said shortly and he raised his brow.

"You're quite ambitious. Your dream job is to work at a bar?" He asked me, my earlier condescension now clear in his voice and I didn't enjoy the switch.

"You're arrogant!" I scolded, forgetting I was merely a bartender whose weekly pay was a mere $1,000 per week and not a business manager.

Falling into this life was going to be a little difficult for me, as it was already proving to be so. Having graduated Summa cum laude, I had been all around the most capable business management student, and it came with a certain level of arrogance and brashness, the same one which I was going to find hard to let go of now.

"Are you going to teach me morals?" He teased and maybe it was my deep-rooted hatred for him talking but I scoffed.

"I doubt it would work if I did. You're too far gone." I said defensively and he leaned in towards me, gathering my hands into his larger ones, his baby blue eyes narrowing seductively.

"I am trying to figure out if you're really brave or just plain stupid." He whispered and I could feel the heat creep into my cheeks and I immediately pulled my hands from his.

This was not how I had expected my first meeting with him to be, I wanted to be in control, to be the one to call the shots, I had expected him to be completely taken in with me.

Instead, I was a blushing mess.

"I guess we'll never know," I muttered standing up and smoothening my apron. I knew If I said what I wanted to I might lose my job, and he was a flexible employer already, I for one would have fired me. I saw the humor in his eyes but I was already upset at his quips to find anything he said funny.

"You should return to your duty," he finally said, a ghost of a smile on his face.

"Yes, anywhere but your presence is appreciated." I retorted, walking away, I had the faintest feeling that our story had just begun. I was going to do all I had planned to do and show no mercy, tearing him down brick by brick.

I walked over to the bar and Alonso sent me a sympathetic smile. Everything in his eyes said 'I'm sorry' but I wasn't sorry, I was excited because I wouldn't feel too sorry when carrying out my plans, he had proven to be a bad person.

Guess the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.
