Chapter 1 Jelena

Chapter 1

Jelena stared at the crowd without emotions in her eyes. She looked down at her fingers and her lips curved upwards in pain.

Across the dancing crowd, the groom sat down taking countless glasses of alcohol down his throat.

"Slow down, Andrew" Daniel stared at his friend who glanced at him and dropped the glass in his hand.

"I need you to check what this family is up to, I don't trust them" Andrew glared coldly at the girl who was seated a few feet from him.

"Tomorrow, you will be gone to your husband's house. I know you have no knowledge of etiquette and the elites but please don't embarrass us any further" Mrs Owen lectured Jelena who sat down staring past at the window.

Jelena was lost in thoughts, she had only agreed to come with her father not to marry her childhood friend turned enemy. Her mother didn't even know she was married, yet she was to move to her husband's house the next day.

"Remember the deal we made, if you make a mistake then your mother gets it" Mrs. Owen threatened and Jelena gave her a cold glare.

"You promised to stop targeting them if I did what you wanted" Jelena remained her but the old woman before her smiled mockingly.

"I said I would stop targeting them, not that I would let them go. '' She sighed and sat down rubbing her head.

"I wonder where my precious daughter is" Her voice sounded sober but Jelena wasn't moved.

She knew there was something amiss but what? Her stepmother was a selfish but loving woman who would sacrifice the world for her youngest daughter. She must have known where Natasha was but just decided to hide her.

A knock on the door awoke both women back to life.

"Nicole, is there any news yet?" Mrs. Owen stood up and walked to her eldest daughter.

"Nothing yet, Mom. Just go and rest we would find her soon" Nicole gave her mother a side hug and after a while they let go and Mrs. Owen left but not without sizing Jelena.

"Jelena, you are such a selfish pri*k" Nicole scolded.

Jelena turned to the lady who looked similar to Natasha but with a different hair color and body size.

"It's an honor" Jelena knew this sister didn't like her but would never hurt her so she was relaxed.

"You couldn't wait to marry Andrew right? You've always had your eyes on him and when you saw Natasha wasn't available, you decided to snatch him, right? How thoughtful" Nicole sat down and crossed her legs facing Jelena with piercing eyes.

"Coming from someone who feels she is better than anyone else, I'm on the right track" Jelena knew this game very well, it was either Nicole breaks her or vice versa.

Nicole smiled and stood up turning to leave, Jelena sighed and looked back at the window but Nicole's cold words made her turn.

"Do you think Andrew would ever forgive you after hurting his sister?"

"I never hurt her. What happened then was an accident" Jelena tried to defend herself.

Nicole smiled and turned back to Jelena who had gotten on her feet.

"An accident you caused yourself. As little as you were, you were so selfish that you had to hurt others to get money. So pitiful" Nicole scanned her with her eyes.

Jelena felt naked, she hated talking about that incident, everyone blamed her for it but she knew she was innocent but had no way of proving it.

"I am innocent of your accusations" Jelena looked at Nicole with clear eyes.

Nicole felt something was off but her sister was missing, she wasn't going to let Jelena off the hook till her sister was found.

She turned and left.

Jelena rubbed her arms and faced the window, she felt so alone and trapped. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she fell to her knees and wailed.

She was scared, scared of what Andrew would do to her.

DOWN CITY

"Jenny, where is Jelena?" Mrs Stones asked, dropping her bag on the sofa and sinking into it.

"Mr Owen came and took her" Jenny explained to her mother as she poured her water.

"Thank you," She said to Jenny then collected the cup and gulped down everything.

"Today was strange," Mrs. Stones said as she bent down to remove her shoes.

"What happened?" Jenny asked to bring some food for her.

"Mr James who has been yelling at me all week was suddenly nice"

"Mama, isn't that a good thing?" Jenny asked, sitting down beside her.

"Yes but I don't feel good about it, something is not right" she complained as she removed her shoes and started eating.

Jenny shrugged and took her bag in.

THE NEXT DAY

Jelena looked at herself in the mirror, she looked like the princess she had always wanted to be.

She touched her reflection and her lips curved upwards making her cheeks red.

"May I come in?"

The warm voice made Jelena turn, her smile grew wonder seeing the man before her.

"Papa" she called out softly.

Mr Owen walked to her, grabbed her left hand, and brought it close to his lip.

"My Rapunzel" he complimented and Jelena smiled.

"Papa, how are you doing today?" Jelena asked, dragging him to the bed where he sat down.

She rushed to grab a comb and some ointments. Mr Owen smiled seeing that she didn't forget their tradition and that her mother honored his wishes.

He was a man who loved long hair but his wife refused to keep them and even her daughters followed in her steps. When Jelena was born, he made her mother promise never to cut it and she agreed. Jelena was his favorite.

He poured the ointment into his palm and rubbed it in his hair, his eyes welled up as he remembered that it was the last time he would do such.

"Papa, you are crying?" Jelena looked at the reflection and Mr Owen smiled.

"My precious daughter, your birth was a light to my dark world. You've always been a righteous daughter but this is how I repay you" Jelena understood what he meant but she couldn't let him feel bad.

She stood up and hugged him, "Papa, you know best. I'm happy with your decision," she said and Mr Owen looked at her with bright eyes. He opened his mouth to say something when Mrs Owen came into the room.

"They are here" she announced sizing Jelena.

Chapter 2 Andrew

Chapter 2

"Mother, do I have to do this?" Andrew looked around the house bitterly, he looked at the staircase and remembered the incident.

"Yes son, if you decide to say no now, then our family heirloom would go to them and that's the last thing we would want" Karina tried to pacify her son.

Andrew understood everything but he hated the idea that he had to marry the girl who had caused his family such great pain. The reason he had agreed at first was that it was Natasha, she was with him when it happened so she was innocent but now, he was married to that low-class thing.

He sighed and glanced at his watch when the soft sounds of heels caught his attention, he looked upwards to see her coming down with her father. The rage in his heart increased but he had promised to be in his best behavior.

He stood up, adjusted his suit, and walked to her, he stretched forth his hand to her and she received it with a slight bow.

"Mr. Owen, I promise to look after your daughter with great care" Andrew dragged her softly and placed his arm around her.

Mr Owen watched and his heart ached, he could hear the threat but he had no choice.

"Do well to keep her happy" he said as he felt his knees growing weak.

"Father, she would be fine. She would survive" his cold words made Jelena shiver.

"It's time we leave, Andrew still has a meeting later today so he needs to rest" Karina checked her watch while standing up and Mr. Owen nodded.

Jelena looked at her father with empty eyes, she knew he couldn't save her now, she was married.

Andrew opened the door for her and she entered then he got in and closed the door and the car drove off.

Mrs Owen watched from the window with a smile on her face, she wasn't going to allow her daughter to pay for the sins of that wretched girl.

The Anderson Mansion was located in the elite center of the city and it was the most beautiful and spacious of all.

The car stopped and Andrew left Jelena in the car. She got down and wanted to chase after him but Karina stopped her.

"Jelena, you would stay in the room opposite Andrew," she said and Jelena nodded and walked in.

She marveled at the sight before her, everything had changed since she last visited this place. It didn't feel like how it used to and suddenly she felt like this chapter of her life would be brand new.

She got to the staircase and used it, the elevator was made for only the top members of the family and she wasn't that yet.

She got to the fifth floor and walked straight to the room opposite Andrew's. She smiled at it, it was exactly what she loved.

She sat on the bed and removed her shoes, she placed her feet on the tile and the coldness enveloped her body making her smile.

She stood up and looked at her reflection in the mirror when the door opened. She arranged her dress and stood properly as Andrew took short strides toward her.

"You would move in with me" Jelena looked at him confused.

"How would I torture you if you don't stay close to me?" he stared deep into her eyes and fear gripped Jelena as she held her dress and shifted backward to the wall.

"How do I make you feel the pain of what you have caused me? How do I make you feel her pain? How do I make you feel the pain you've caused me for 10 years?" He punched the wall and Jelena closed her eyes in fright.

"I... I... I had nothing to do with it" she mumbled with her eyes still closed.

Andrew shifted away from her but his eyes never left her, Jelena opened her eyes and when she saw his bloody fists, she tried to touch him but she slapped her.

The impact of the slap made her fall to the ground.

"Who do you think you are to touch me?" he squatted beside her and grabbed her hair pulling it down.

"I'm sorry" Jelena cried out trying to free her hair from his grip but he gripped it tighter.

"I pray you die" he dragged the hair with force and Jelena fell on the floor face flat.

"What is happening?" Karina ran into Jelena who hugged her and started sobbing.

Seeing the wounds on her face and her raging son, she understood what had happened. She touched Jelena who winched in pain.

"Leave this place now!" she scolded Andrew and he left.

She turned to Jelena who was shivering and her heart ached, she helped her stand and took her to the bed.

"I'm sorry, my child," she said, stroking her hair.

After a while, Jelena was sleeping soundly. The warm look in her eyes died down and it turned into a pair of cold ones.

She walked into Andrew's room to see him smoking a cigarette.

"How could you do that to her?" She asked as her chest moved up and down quickly.

"She deserved it" Karina was angered by his words and collected the cigarette from him, throwing it on the floor and stepping on it.

Andrew uncrossed his legs and stood up to face his mother.

"Mother, marrying that girl is a punishment. I have to see the person who has made my sister suffer, every single day of my life. It's torture" He's eyes shook as he spoke.

Karina sighed and looked at the window as she approached it, she looked at the dark quiet compound and then turned to Andrew.

"Deal with it. I am her mother and if I am able to accept Jelena, I expect you to do the same" she said calmly.

"Mother!"

"Don't you think Mr. Owen has also lost his daughter too? He loved Jelena more than any of his children but he gave her to us, to you. Why?" she stared at her son who scoffed and looked away.

"He is a businessman who has sold her for something better" Karina slapped Andrew.

"You dare not speak of a woman as though she is a mere toy. Where are you manners?!" Karina was losing her temper.

Andrew signed and touched his cheeks then he looked down, "I apologize Mother"

Karina felt guilty slapping him but she raised her head. She was about to say something when she heard a knock on the door.

"Mr Davis is here ma'am" a maid announced.

Karina rubbed her head in frustration and looked at her son.

"Clean your face" she ordered and left him.

Chapter 3 Karina

Chapter 3

Karina got downstairs to see a well-dressed man touching an expensive vase. She frowned at him but did not say a word as she sat down and crossed her legs, the man seeing her, smiled but his eyes were filled with mockery.

"I see my brother is taking care of you to the point that you have no respect" The man spat and sat down to face Karina.

Karina didn't flinch, she was used to these comments since she became a daughter of the family. She sat properly and tossed her hair.

"Do you want a glass of drink?" Her words were soft but the man frowned. She was hinting that he was a guest who would leave.

"Never mind," he said and adjusted himself looking around. He was about to open his mouth when he saw Andrew coming down and his eyes shrank.

"Father sent me here, he wanted to know when you are coming home to introduce the bride," he said with a sense of unfamiliarity and Karina rubbed her head.

"Tell grandfather that he would get to see his granddaughter-in-law soonest" Andrew sat down beside his mother and held her hand.

"He said I should take a picture of the bride"

Andrew knew his uncle was just trying to look for gossip. He adjusted himself and faced the man who had forgotten how ruthless he, Andrew Anderson was.

"Uncle Davis, I heard my cousin brought a pregnant low-life home and grandfather is still angry" Andrew knew where to hit and Davis felt uncomfortable, he thought Andrew didn't know but he had just underestimated the demon before him.

"I need to go now, I just came to drop the information," He said standing up and arranging his suit.

"Send my regards to aunt" Davis understood what Andrew meant so he ignored him and walked away as quickly as possible.

After he had gone, Karina faced Andrew. "Son, what are we to do?" Karina was worried that Jelena would not fit into Anderson Elder's portfolio and this might cause an issue for Andrew.

Andrew rubbed his mother's hand as his lips curved upwards, "Just take care of her, everything will be smooth" Karina nodded, staring at eyes that swallowed her anxiety.

The next day

Nicole walks into the mansion with a folder in her hand. Mrs. Owen rushed to her holding her gown.

"Nico, is there any news on your sister?" her eyes widened as her eyelids flickered.

Nicole looked down at the folder in her hands, she sighed and looked at her mother, "Where is father?"

Mrs. Owen was confused but pointed to his study, Nicole nodded and walked past her mother but Mrs. Owen followed closely.

"Father" Nicole called out and Mr Owen looked up, he smiled seeing her and removed his glasses.

"Child, you are back. Any news?" he got up and walked to her but she stretched the folder to him.

Mr Owen was confused and collected the folder, he opened it and grabbed his glasses and his body shook slightly as he read through.

Mrs. Owen pushed Nicole and grabbed the paper from Mr. Owen, her body trembling.

"Nicole, what have you done? What did you do?" Mrs. Owen threw the folder on the floor and attacked Nicole who tried to grab her but her mother stopped and everything went blank as she fell but Nicole was quick enough to catch her.

"Father, ambulance!" Nicole laid her mother on the floor and started checking for a pulse.

Mr Owen made the call.

***

Jelena twirled in front of the mirror and her lips curved upwards revealing her one-sided dimple.

"You look so beautiful" Karina praised lost in her beauty.

Jelena stared at her reflection and seeing the girl in front of it, her heart jumped. She had always wanted this lifestyle but after that incident, she knew this grand stuff wasn't for her and she had agreed to lay low up until recently.

"Are you okay?" Jelena's eyelids flickered as she touched her hair and smiled.

"I'm okay, I just find the design so indulging," She said pointing to a stitch and Karina smiled.

"It seems you have an eye for fashion"

"My mama used to play with such things once in a while" Jelena looked at her reflection and smiled.

"Okay, that's good. You can wear this dress. The others would be sent to us" Karina explained and Jelena smiled.

"My dear, as we go out, there are a lot of reporters who are going to take your pictures, keep your head down but if you have to look up then smile" Karina advised and Jelena nodded despite not understanding what she meant.

Jelena wrapped her arm around Karina's and they both walked out of the boutique and with guards around them the clicking of cameras wouldn't stop.

In the midst of it all, Jelena looked up and the flashing of the camera blinded her and her left leg slipped from its shoe leaving the shoe behind, she got into the car and drove off.

ANDERSON CORP

Andrew was deep into his work when Daniel strolled into his office, sat down, and turned on the TV.

Andrew looked at him with a grave look but Daniel glanced at him and ignored his stares.

Andrew looked at the TV and was about to look away when he noticed Jelena and his mom. He recalled that they had gone shopping. He watched as Jelena held his mom's arms and she looked like a runaway bride.

From the beautiful pink dress that matched her pale skin to her healthy wavy hair that covered her face in some of the pictures making her look like a doll.

"Brother, you married a real-life Rapunzel," Daniel complimented, staring at the TV.

Andrew looked away with disgust, no matter how beautiful she was, she ruined his family and he couldn't forgive her for that.

"Brother, your Rapunzel lost a leg from her shoe. Perfect Cinderella Rapunzel, she is so cute. When can I meet my sister-in-law?" Daniel asked, staring at Andrew who was glaring at him.

"Shouldn't you be getting me information on my missing bride?" Andrew asked.

Daniel reduced the volume of the TV and frowned. "Why are you searching for that thing when you have such a princess?" Daniel grumbled.

Andrew stood up and faced the window, "I'm curious" he said plainly.

Daniel wanted to ask further when the door opened and a man walked in.
