Moonbound: The Alpha's Last Vow

Author: : Luigi Gabriel
Genre: Werewolf
Cursed by the Moon Goddess, Alpha Andy Parker has spent a century trapped between man and beast-his soul fractured, his fate sealed. The only way to break his torment is to find his true mate before the next blood moon. But time is running out. Barbara Hill never believed in fate. As a rogue, she has spent her life running from packs that would see her as nothing more than a pawn. But when she crosses into Nightfang territory, she finds herself face-to-face with a monstrous wolf-one whose golden eyes burn into her very soul. Andy knows Barbara is the key to breaking his curse, but the shadows of his past threaten to consume them both. As ancient enemies rise and betrayals unfold, they must decide-will they fight together, or will the curse claim them both under the light of the blood moon?

Chapter 1 1

The wind howled through the trees of Nightfang territory, carrying the scent of blood and the whisper of curses long cast. Andy Parker stood at the edge of the dark forest, his massive frame rigid as he fought the beast within. It clawed at his mind, threatening to take over, as it had for the past hundred years.

The curse was worsening. His fingers curled into fists, claws threatening to break through his human skin. He gritted his teeth and turned his golden eyes to the sky. The moon was nearing its fullest form- another blood moon on the horizon. Another cycle where his soul would teeter on the edge of complete destruction.

A scent drifted through the wind, cutting through his agony. It was unfamiliar yet intoxicating, like wild jasmine after a storm. His wolf snarled, pushing against his control, and his pulse thundered in his ears... A rogue.

Andy turned sharply, eyes scanning the thick shadows between the trees. The scent grew stronger, mingling with the dampness of the earth. Someone was close... Then he saw her.

She was small, her figure lean and wrapped in worn-out clothing, but her stance was firm, her chin tilted in defiance. Her hair, wild and tangled, framed a face that was striking even in the dim light. But it was her eyes that held him captive-dark, wary, and hiding secrets he couldn't yet name.

Barbara Hill.

She hadn't meant to cross into Nightfang territory. Her goal had been simple-find shelter for the night, avoid any packs, and move on by morning. But now, she was trapped under the weight of the Alpha's golden gaze, frozen as if her body had suddenly recognized something her mind couldn't comprehend.

Danger. Power. Fate.

The monstrous wolf in front of her should have struck terror into her heart, but instead, a strange pull tightened in her chest.

"Who are you?" Andy's voice was a low growl, rough from years of isolation.

Barbara swallowed hard but held her ground. "Just passing through."

A flicker of amusement crossed his face, though it was brief. "Through my land?"

"Didn't know it was yours." She wasn't about to show fear, not when she had survived far worse.

Andy studied her for a long moment, something unreadable flashing in his eyes. The curse inside him pulsed, whispering truths he hadn't expected.

Mate.

The realization struck like a lightning bolt.

His wolf roared, a desperate, possessive sound that shook the trees. Barbara flinched, instincts screaming at her to run, but something in Andy's eyes-something wounded and desperate-held her in place.

And then, the shadows around them shifted.

The scent of enemies tainted the air.

Andy stiffened, his senses sharpening. He wasn't the only one who had noticed Barbara's presence.

"Run," he ordered, but it was already too late.

A pair of glowing red eyes emerged from the darkness.

Barbara's breath hitched as more figures emerged from the shadows- three, no, four of them- wolves with red-tinged eyes and snarls curling their muzzles.

Rogues.

But these weren't ordinary rogues. Their scent was off, tainted with something unnatural, something wrong.

Andy's body shifted, muscles coiling with tension. His wolf pushed harder, demanding to be set free, but he gritted his teeth and held his ground. If he lost control now, if he fully gave in to the curse, there was no coming back.

The largest of the rogues stepped forward, his lips curling into a smirk as he shifted into human form- a tall, wiry man with scars crisscrossing his bare chest. His eyes gleamed with malice.

"Well, well. Look what we have here," the rogue drawled, his gaze flicking between Barbara and Andy. "A lost little she-wolf and a cursed Alpha. Quite the pair."

Barbara clenched her fists. She had heard of the Nightfang Alpha-of his curse, his isolation, his supposed madness. She had never planned to cross paths with him. But now, standing in the middle of his territory, caught between him and a pack of dangerous rogues, fate had other plans.

Andy took a slow step forward, his golden eyes darkening. "You're trespassing."

The rogue chuckled, unfazed. "So are we all. But I have to admit, I'm curious." His eyes flicked to Barbara. "A rogue little thing, running from something, I assume? Maybe we can help."

Barbara's lip curled in disgust. "I don't need help from the likes of you."

The rogue tsked. "Shame."

In a blink, he lunged. Andy was faster. A deep, guttural snarl tore from his throat as he moved, claws elongating as he slammed into the rogue with brutal force. They crashed to the ground in a violent tangle of limbs and teeth.

Barbara barely had time to react before another wolf lunged at her. She dodged, rolling through the dirt, her instincts screaming. She had spent years fighting to survive, but this was different. This wasn't a street brawl or a quick escape-this was war.

A rogue clamped his jaws around her arm, sharp teeth sinking into flesh. She bit back a cry, twisting and kicking him off. Blood dripped down her skin, but she had no time to dwell on the pain.

Andy's roar split the air. His wolf was taking over. Barbara turned just in time to see his form shift. He was massive-larger than any wolf she had ever seen, his fur a deep midnight black, his eyes glowing like molten gold. He was all power, all fury, and utterly terrifying. The rogues hesitated.

"Leave," Andy growled, his voice thick with the remnants of his transformation. "Or die."

The rogues exchanged wary glances. They had come expecting an easy fight, but this was something else entirely. The cursed Alpha was stronger than they had anticipated.

With a low snarl, the leader of the group backed away. "This isn't over."

Then they vanished into the night. Silence fell over the clearing, broken only by the ragged breathing of Barbara and Andy.

Barbara clutched her bleeding arm, watching Andy warily. He hadn't shifted back completely-his claws still elongated, his eyes still glowing.

He was fighting the curse. Andy turned to her, nostrils flaring as he caught the scent of her blood. His gaze darkened. "You're hurt."

Barbara lifted her chin. "I've had worse."

Something flashed in his expression- something unreadable.

"You need to come with me," he said. It wasn't a request.

Barbara frowned. "Why would I do that?"

His jaw clenched. "Because I just saved your life. And because whether you believe it or not, you're mine."

Barbara's heart slammed against her ribs. "Excuse me?"

Andy stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. "You're my mate."

Barbara's instincts screamed at her to run. She had spent her life avoiding packs, avoiding bonds. Mates were chains, a weakness that could be exploited. And yet, standing in front of this cursed Alpha, with his golden eyes burning into hers, she felt something shift deep inside her. Fate had made its move. And there was no running from it now.

Chapter 2 2

Barbara didn't move. She couldn't. The words you're my mate rang in her ears like a death sentence. She had spent her life running from the idea of belonging to anyone, let alone an Alpha- especially one who carried a curse that had doomed him for over a century.

Andy's golden eyes bore into hers, waiting, watching for a reaction. But what could she say? That he was wrong? That she didn't feel the pull, the undeniable tug of something deeper than mere attraction?

Lying to herself had never been her strong suit. Her arm throbbed, reminding her of the fresh wound the rogues had left behind. The bite wasn't deep, but it was enough to slow her down. Enough to make her vulnerable. And Barbara Hill never liked being vulnerable.

"You need to come with me," Andy said again, his voice lower this time, more controlled. He was trying to hold back, she realized. Trying not to scare her off. A cursed Alpha trying to show restraint. The irony almost made her laugh.

Barbara let out a slow breath, weighing her options. She could refuse him, insist on going her own way, but where would that leave her? Alone. Bleeding. With a pack of rogues that now had her scent.

Or she could follow Andy Parker into his world, into Nightfang territory, into something she had spent her whole life avoiding. Into the arms of fate.

"I can take care of myself," she said, lifting her chin.

Andy's gaze flicked to her injured arm. "You're bleeding."

"So?"

His jaw tightened, but instead of arguing, he reached for her.

Barbara jerked away on instinct. "Don't."

Andy hesitated, but she could see the battle raging behind his eyes. The beast in him, the curse that made him more monster than man, wanted to claim her. Wanted to close the distance between them. She needed to be careful.

Andy let out a breath and stepped back. "Let me help you."

Barbara hesitated. Then, against her better judgment, she nodded.

Andy turned toward the trees. "Come on."

She followed, though she kept a few steps behind. Her mind raced as they moved deeper into Nightfang territory, the air thick with the scent of pine and damp earth. She didn't belong here. She never had a place to belong. But for the first time in years, she wasn't entirely sure if she wanted to leave.

Nightfang Keep

The Nightfang stronghold was unlike any pack Barbara had ever seen. It wasn't a town, nor a traditional pack village-it was a fortress.

Massive stone walls surrounded the territory, ancient and unyielding. The structures within were dark and imposing, built for war rather than comfort.

Nightfang had been cursed alongside its Alpha, and it showed.

The pack was small, the people wary. As Barbara and Andy entered the heart of the stronghold, all eyes turned to them. Wolves in human form watched from doorways, their gazes flicking to Andy with something between reverence and fear.

But when they saw her, the stranger at his side, their expressions darkened. Barbara stiffened. She was used to being unwelcome.

Andy didn't acknowledge their stares. He moved with the confidence of an Alpha, his presence commanding even in silence.

A man stepped forward from the crowd, older, with streaks of gray in his dark hair. His piercing blue eyes locked onto Barbara before shifting to Andy.

"Who is this?"

Andy didn't break stride. "She's with me."

Murmurs rippled through the gathered wolves. The older man-clearly a Beta-studied Barbara with open suspicion.

"A rogue?" he asked, his voice laced with doubt.

Andy's gaze hardened. "My mate."

Barbara fought the urge to bolt. The Beta was the first to recover. He exhaled sharply, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Andy..."

"I know, Gregor." Andy's voice was rough. "But it's the truth."

Gregor's jaw clenched. He turned back to Barbara, eyes narrowing. "What's your name?"

Barbara straightened. "Barbara Hill."

He studied her for a long moment, then sighed. "You shouldn't be here."

Barbara's muscles tensed. "I didn't exactly plan this."

Gregor shifted his gaze back to Andy. "This is dangerous."

Andy's expression darkened. "Everything about me is dangerous."

Gregor didn't argue. He simply stepped aside, waving a hand toward one of the stone buildings. "Get her cleaned up. We'll talk later."

Andy nodded and motioned for Barbara to follow.

She didn't miss the way the pack continued to stare as she passed.

Inside the Alpha's Den

Andy's quarters were as imposing as the rest of Nightfang Keep. The stone walls were rough, the furniture minimal. A large fireplace dominated one side of the room, unlit, while a heavy wooden table sat in the center. A massive bed rested against the far wall, draped in dark furs. It was more cave than home. Barbara stood awkwardly near the entrance as Andy disappeared into an adjoining room. He returned moments later with a cloth and a bottle of something that smelled strongly of herbs.

"Sit," he said.

Barbara eyed him warily. "I can take care of it myself."

Andy gave her a look. "Sit."

She sighed and dropped onto a nearby chair. Andy knelt before her, taking her arm in his hands. His touch was surprisingly gentle as he cleaned the wound. The sting made her flinch, but she gritted her teeth and said nothing. He worked in silence, his focus sharp.

"Why are you alone?" he asked after a moment.

Barbara tensed. "Does it matter?"

His golden eyes flicked up to meet hers. "It does to me."

She looked away. "I've always been alone."

Andy didn't press, but she could feel his curiosity.

He finished bandaging her arm and sat back on his heels. "You're not alone now."

Barbara met his gaze, her chest tightening at the raw sincerity in his voice. She wanted to believe him. But she had learned long ago that believing in anything only led to pain. So she did what she always did. She pulled away.

"I should go," she said, standing abruptly.

Andy's expression darkened. "You can't."

Her heart pounded. "Watch me."

She moved toward the door, but before she could reach it, Andy was there. He didn't touch her, didn't block her aggressively, but his presence alone was enough to stop her in her tracks.

"You can't leave," he said again, his voice quieter this time.

Barbara clenched her fists. "Why? Because I'm your mate? Because fate decided to throw us together?"

Andy's jaw tightened. "Because it's not safe."

She scoffed. "I've been taking care of myself for years."

"I know." His golden eyes burned into hers. "But the rogues who attacked us-they weren't just any rogues. They were looking for something."

Barbara frowned. "Looking for what?"

Andy hesitated, then said, "You."

A cold chill crawled up her spine. "That's ridiculous."

Andy took a slow step closer. "Is it?"

Barbara's mind raced. She had been careful. Hadn't she? She had stayed off the radar, kept moving, never let anyone get too close.

So why would rogues be after her?

Unless... Her stomach twisted. She had always believed she was running from something. What if she had been running toward it this whole time?

Andy watched her carefully. "You're not leaving," he said again. "Not until we figure out what's going on."

Barbara swallowed hard, the weight of his words pressing down on her. And she had no idea what was coming next.

Chapter 3 3

Barbara's breath came faster as Andy's words sank in. They were looking for you. No. That didn't make sense. She was nobody. A rogue with no ties, no past worth hunting. She had spent years slipping through the cracks, keeping her head down, avoiding trouble. If someone was after her now, that meant... She had failed.

Barbara forced herself to breathe, to shove down the rising panic. "You're wrong."

Andy didn't flinch. "Am I?"

Her hands curled into fists at her sides. "I don't know what kind of game you think this is, but no one is after me. I don't belong to a pack, I have no family left, and I sure as hell don't have any enemies that would go to this kind of trouble."

Andy studied her for a long moment, his golden eyes unreadable. Then he turned and strode across the room, grabbing a cloth from the table.

"They weren't ordinary rogues," he said as he tossed the cloth into the wash basin. "Their scent was wrong. They smelled like rot."

Barbara swallowed hard. "Like... they were sick?"

"No." He met her gaze again, his expression grim. "Like they weren't supposed to exist."

A shiver crawled up her spine. Andy took a step closer, his presence suffocating. "And they knew you by name."

Barbara's pulse stuttered.

"That's not possible."

Andy didn't look away. "It is."

Silence stretched between them, thick and heavy.

Barbara's mind raced. Could it be a coincidence? Could the rogues have simply been scavengers, preying on anyone foolish enough to be alone?

Or was there something buried in her past-something she had tried to forget-that was finally catching up with her?

She wasn't ready for that answer.

She turned away, running a hand through her hair. "This doesn't mean anything."

Andy exhaled sharply. "It means everything."

His voice was low, edged with something almost... desperate.

Barbara turned back to him, her throat tight. "What do you want from me?"

Andy's gaze softened-just slightly. "I want to protect you."

She laughed bitterly. "You don't even know me."

His jaw clenched. "I know what I felt when I saw you."

Barbara stiffened.

"I know the pull," he continued, voice rough. "And I know you felt it too."

Damn him.

She had felt it. That deep, gut-wrenching connection that shouldn't exist, that she had spent her life avoiding. She had felt it the moment his golden eyes locked onto hers.

But admitting that?

Not happening.

Barbara folded her arms. "You think because fate decided this, I'm just supposed to go along with it? That I should just accept whatever curse the Moon Goddess threw at you and pretend we're some kind of destined love story?"

Andy's expression darkened. "I don't expect anything from you."

He took another step forward, his voice quieter now, almost... raw.

"But you're here, Barbara. And I won't let them take you."

Barbara's breath caught. There was something in his tone, something unshakable. A promise. A vow. She hated it. She shook her head, taking a step back. "I don't need saving."

Andy's lips pressed into a thin line. "Maybe not." His golden eyes burned into hers. "But I do."

Barbara stilled. Andy looked away, running a hand through his dark hair. "You're not the only one who's been running."

Her heart pounded. "You're talking about the curse."

His muscles tensed. "I'm talking about all of it."

Barbara hesitated, then asked the question she had been avoiding since she first laid eyes on him. "How bad is it?"

Andy let out a slow, measured breath. "You've heard the stories."

She had.

The Nightfang Alpha. The cursed beast. The monster that stalked the woods, more shadow than man.

Barbara's throat tightened. "I've heard rumors."

Andy met her gaze, his expression unreadable. "Then let me tell you the truth."

She swallowed hard, waiting.

"I wasn't just cursed," he said, voice like gravel. "I was broken."

Barbara's pulse pounded in her ears.

Andy took another step toward her, his towering form casting a long shadow across the room. "For a century, I have fought a war inside myself. A war I've been losing."

Barbara's breath caught. Andy's golden eyes darkened, flickering with something inhuman.

"I don't shift like other wolves. I don't have control like other Alphas." His fingers flexed, and Barbara swore she saw claws flicker for a split second before he clenched them into fists. "Every day, the beast inside me fights to take over. Every day, I hold it back."

Her stomach twisted. "And if you lose?"

Andy exhaled. "Then there won't be anything left of me."

Barbara's hands tightened at her sides. She wasn't sure why it bothered her so much. Why the idea of him losing that fight made her chest ache.

She had spent years convincing herself that she didn't care about anyone. That she didn't need anyone.

But looking at Andy Parker-the man who had saved her life, the man who claimed she was his mate, the man who carried a curse heavier than anything she could imagine- she felt something crack inside her. .. Damn it all... She hated this... She hated fate.

Barbara inhaled sharply. "So what happens now?"

Andy watched her carefully, his golden eyes searching hers. "That depends on you."

She frowned. "How?"

Andy hesitated for only a second before saying, "Because you're the only one who can save me."

The words hit her like a punch to the gut.

Barbara took a shaky step back. "You don't even know me."

Andy's expression didn't waver. "I don't have to."

Barbara could still hear the wind outside, whispering through the trees. Could still feel the weight of Andy's words pressing down on her. And she didn't know whether to run... Or stay.
