Chapter 1:Arranged
"Thalia! Here!" Ivan calls to me while waving.
The whole place was really full of people. Fortunately, I was able to reserve a seat.
I dragged Daphne and went to the two seats I was reserving for Ivan, one of my suitors. I didn't entertain him though and I don't entertain suitors ever. Like everyone else, he was deliberately dry because he knew I wouldn't let him know.
Aside from the fact that I have no interest in them Aldrin is what I like and they know that. But they were zealous and said they would wait until I regained consciousness. That's if my feelings will still change. This admiration I have for him has been going strong for years so they are just sorry because they have nothing to gain from me and they have no right to criticize me in the end because I keep telling them that I'm not up for a relationship if it's not Aldrin.
"Thanks, Ivan."
Is he so patient that even when I support my crush, he also supports me? Well, I don't feel guilty. If Aldrin was the reason, anyone else I would step on and hurt, I wouldn't mind.
"Anything for my love," he winked at me.
I smiled at him and rolled my eyes when I looked away. Yuck!
"Why did you take so long? I thought you wouldn't watch Aldrin anymore, eh!" He said with a smile.
There's no way in hell I would miss his game!
"Uh, I even picked up Daphne at their building,"
"Oh... okay!"
I was cheering so loud with the crowd everytime the ball is in Aldrin's hands. When he can shoot, I jump for joy. I don't mind if my 'suitor' is beside me. He should deal with it since he's insisting it.
"Sister, sit down! It's embarrassing!" Repeated litany of my sister is really kill joy every time I jump around.
This girl! Where did Mommy conceive her and why does she whole being seem to be full of bitterness? She is beautiful and many also show interest in her but like me she doesn't get along well. Well, at least I have a reason why but her? She's now 17, goodness! And let her not make me feel sorry for the longevity of her life. She's very prim and proper unlike me who's so loud especially when I'm with Brent. We're completely opposite but I still love her. Even kill joy is still reliable.
Everytime she stops me, I'll just look at her sharply then continue with what I'm doing. No one can destroy my mood when Phillip Aldrin Villacorta's the subject.
The game ended with Aldrin's team winning. And of course, he did! My! I just like him more. My MVP.
"Get in the car first. I'm just going somewhere for a while." I told Daphne as we were about to leave the gym.
Her eyes narrowed. "Where?"
Here she goes again. My investigator-like sister.
"Just,"
"Sis..." She warned.
I rolled my eyes at her. "Don't worry, Sis. I won't do anything that will put your name into shame. Now, go ahead," I gestured out to her with one eyebrow raised.
She sighed heavily and shook her head slowly as she went out.
I followed her departure with my gaze and when she got away I gave an evil smirk.
Now, where is Aldrin?
I went inside the gym again but the players were no longer there. Is it in the men's locker? It's embarrassing to go there. I will still look like a pervert!
Just when I was about to give up on looking for him, I spotted Aldrin on the pathway, with his teammates. They were laughing at something.
My smile widened. All my hesitations were set aside. I approached his group and they calmed down. Someone else whistled. When he saw me, his smile faded. He immediately stared at me sharply even though I was not doing anything. Or should I say, nothing yet?
I approached him and swallowed hard before speaking. "C-Congrats, Aldrin!" I tried my best to make my voice clear.
He did not react. He just looked at me darkly. I lowered my head for the surely another moment of embarassment from him.
"Thanks," He said coldly.
I lifted my gaze at him, eyes twinkling. He talked to me again!
"Oh!" His teammates are jealous.
They knew that Aldrin was rude to me and to most women.
"Thalia, why are you the only one congratulating her? The whole team won, here. The trick!" Brix groaned as one of his teammates.
My cheeks got hot. Is it too obvious that I love him so much?
I turned to them. "Of course, you too!" I said smiling.
Aldrin sneezed so I turned to him. I was surprised when the near soft eyes he had before turned dark again. Dead! What did I do wrong this time?
"Let's go," he said and passed me.
I was stunned there. The speed changes the mood, huh?
"Uhm, Thalia, thanks by the way? We're first!" Brix again.
I just nodded, still unable to recover from what happened.
When I recovered I smiled and walked to the car. Nevermind the rude part. The important thing is that he's not that cold to me yet.
My smile faded when I saw the number one playboy in town.
Jared Arevalo, in his badboy slash playboy attire is flirting with not just one, two nor three but four cheap and desperate girls.
What a sight before going home.
I wonder how long his arms are and he can handle them all. two girls on each side! Meanwhile, the four minions' hands are all over his body while they were walking along the school grounds.
Didn't the officers catch it? What they're doing right now is very unethical!
These girls, really. We are all aware that he's a womanizer but they're still sticking into him like it's an honor for them to be one of his girls. They didn't even care that there were four of them now on his arm, huh?
After all, if they're equally flirtatious, well, they really don't have a boyfriend anymore. And it's not just these four who are obsessed with him. Literally all of the girls in the campus drools over him except me.
I get it that he's good-looking but there are so many other handsome people out there who are cleaner than this man! Maybe because he's rich and powerful? His family is well-known.
Whatever. It's none of my business, anyway.
When he turned to my band our eyesight was right. I raised an eyebrow at him and then stared. The sight of them flirting in public almost destroyed my day. It's time to leave!
I turned my back on them and walked away but just a few steps away something blocked my path.
"What the hell?" I frowned and looked up at whoever was blocking me and my blood boiled even more.
The bastard followed me and is now blocking my way!
I crossed my arms and raised my brow at him.
He whistled. "Hi, Miss! I can't believe a beautiful girl like you is walking along the campus alone."Dramatically he shook.
I rolled my eyes. Can someone tell me how this asshole became a playboy? I mean, it's just his lines, that's corny!
"Can I? Don't make fun of me there! I'll never give in to your old-fashioned moves!"
The thing I hated the most since I went to college is this. This man has been trying to flirt with me since the entrance. He keeps on approaching me with his usual playboy moves. He's sorry but the news that he's a playboy can't escape me. Changing fling every day. Yes, just fling, no more girlfriends As if I'd fall with his moves' no! How dare him think that like all the girls in this school, I'll drool over him. Never! And if this is another moment of him pestering me, then I'd fight him back!
"Aww!" He touched his chest, looking hurt at what I said. "I'm just concerned, you know? It hurts you to speak." He laughed.
My blood boiled even more.
"Can you please stop pestering me? You're so annoying!"
But instead of getting serious because of my anger, his laughter only got louder.
"Easy, Thalia. I like you even more when you're angry and you blush. It's like you're blushing because of me." He said with a smile.
My vision darkened. Can't he take things seriously?! Here I am and my cheeks are blushing with anger but he seems to be even happier! It's been said that it's really wrong to cut this moron because I'm the only one who will be plagued in the end!
In my anger I tried to strike him but he caught my wrist.
"Oops! You've already hurt me emotionally today. I'm not yet ready for physical pain, Miss." He winked at me.
I struggled and he did not fight back. He just ruined my day!
I stopped speaking and my chest heaved. My stare at him was very sharp.
After a while, his face became serious. I should've just walked out a while ago. Now I feel like I have taken root in my position because of my anger.
He let out a deep sigh. "Sorry for annoying you. I won't do it again, I promise."
I didn't say a word, my gaze remained sharp on him.
He sighed heavily again. "Alright. Where's your car? I'll take you there."
My strength returned. "No, thank you!" I said emphatically then he passed.
I close my eyes emphatically. What's wrong with that idiot? If he thinks that I can be one of his girls by doing those cheap moves, don't waste his time! Isn't it enough that he has a lot of twisted and naughty women now? Gosh I'll never be one of those! Those cheap and desperates!
"Hey, Thalia! Are you going home?" Anne, my classmate in a major subject.
I fixed my angry face before and then faced her.
"Yes why?"
"Nothing. Belated happy birthday by the way, I'm sorry I didn't go last night. Someone is taking care of it!"
"No, it's fine. I understand,"
"Oh... okay. I'll take care of you... bye!"
She waved.
"Bye!" I waved back too.
Yesterday was my 18th birthday. A grand debut was prepared by mommy and daddy for me which was attended by my friends, classmates and family even though I didn't ask for it. A dinner with them is more than enough for me but they insisted so I have no say. Maybe they want to show off and I have no comment on that since I was happy last night. I wonder if Daphne will agree to have a grand debut next year, too? That's it anyway. He was a very simple girl. And yes, we are only a year apart. She's now in grade 12 while I'm in first year college. We both agreed to take business administration since there is no one else to manage our business in the near future but us. But I think, Daphne will take the higher position since she's more passionate about business and I don't mind it. We are not jealous siblings. She will spoil me with whatever I like and I will do the same to her too. That's what I'm so greatful for. To have her on my side without any insecurities.
"Sis, why are you taking so long? Mommy is calling me! We're having dinner tonight, remember?" Daphne's irritated introduction to me as I entered the car.
Of course! Daddy said this morning we were going to have an important talk tonight so we should be complete at the table. What could that be? About business? Oh please, I'm just studying!
"I'm sorry, okay? I just came across an asshole coming here." I rolled my eyes as I remembered my encounter with Jared. That bastard!
"Huh?"
"Nothing. Let's go, Edgar," I said to our driver.
"God, where are you two from? Mommy and Daddy have been waiting for you for a while!" Nanny Gina's hysterical introduction to us.
She has been Daphne and I's nanny since childhood. She is in her mid-40s now.
"I told you, Sis," my sister whispered.
I raised my brow at her then turned to nanny. "I'm sorry, Nanny. We'll have to explain."
"Hmm... I'll have your things and get dressed. Your Mommy and Daddy will also come down,"
I looked at my wrist watch and saw that it was six thirty at night. We left school at five o'clock but because it was rush hour we were in traffic on the road. Maybe we won't be reprimanded. Besides, I'm eighteen. I can do that myself.
Daphne and I went to our rooms and got dressed. I wore a dress because I felt dinner was important to them later.
When they arrived at the table, the three of them were already there and I was the only one waiting. I kissed my mom and dad's cheek then sat beside Daphne's chair, facing my parents.
My Mom, even just at home can't not be without make-up or even just lipstick, highlighting more her Spanish looks which we both inherited. She's very sophisticated, a thing that I got from her while Daphne is the simple one but still, she is beautiful.
Dad, on the other hand, even in his 40s, you can't deny that he is handsome, especially when he was young. His deep set eyes tells us that he is a cassanova back then.
As parents, they are not too strict and not to lose. That's right. But for their daughters' lifetime decisions, they will really mingle. Just like the school we will attend, whether we are willing or not, they will insist on that not in a forceful manner but through encouraging us. I don't mind it anyway. Maybe we can't make good decisions without parental guidance. I'm sure they know what's best for us.
"Let's eat," Daddy said.
We ate quietly at the table making me more curious. Did I think we were going to talk? Maybe after dinner? Though silent, I enjoyed eating with them together. We only complete the table once because they are often out for business and Daphne and I are the only ones left. But we're not holding anything against them. We fully understand what they're doing. It's for us also. They never failed to support us, anyway.
"What's your plan now that you're already eighteen, Thalia?" Dad asked when we had finished eating.
I wiped my lips first before answering. "Uh... study? Why?"
Mommy looked at them.
He let out a deep sigh. "If you don't have plans, then we have plans for you,"
I frowned then turned to my sister but she just shrugged.
I turned to Daddy again. "What's that, dad?"
He removed his eyeglasses and put it on the table. He faced me again.
"Since you are now in legal age, we are going to arrange your marriage."
To be continued...
Chapter 2: Fiancée
"We are going to arrange your marriage."
What Dad said was not immediately processed in my brain.
"Arrange my marriage?" I'm confused question.
Did they mean, they will fix my wedding? As in, literally fix?
Mom put her hand on top of Dad's hand which is resting on the table and looked at me. "Thalia, what we mean is like us, you will be under arranged marriage. We will reconcile you daughter."
My eyes rolled at what mommy said.
"NO WAY!" I answer immediately.
"Sis..." Daphne said with a tone of concern.
"Mom, dad, you can't do that to me! I'm still young! And, oh my gosh, please don't lead me in that matter! I'll choose who I'll marry!"
What the hell is wrong with my parents? Arranged marriage? Gosh, it's the twenty-first century! That's out of fashion!
"Thalia, it's not because we're arranging your marriage doesn't mean you'll get married right away. You and your fiancee will date first, get to know each other first. Of course you'll graduate first before you get married. And yes, you will choose who you will marry. It's modern arranged marriage, daughter. " Mommy's calm explanation.
I was confused by what she said. Modern arranged marriage? Is there such a thing? Whatever is it, I still don't like it!
"Even so, Mom! Don't you think that we might not work out what you will agree with me? And what will be the outcome? Failed marriage! Please, let me choose who I will marry. Don't do this to me, "I pleaded, tears slowly fell into my cheeks.
I know them. If they said it, they will really do it and I'm at risk!
I haven't even had a boyfriend yet and here I am, are they looking for a fiancée? I know that my parents and my ancestors we're products of arranged marriage. It already became their tradition but I didn't expect it would reach us out! Fuck that tradition! Women from this time do not marry immediately after college! They work, explore and enjoy the unmarried life and that is what I want! I cannot imagine having a husband at the age of twenty-one then having babies! Oh my gosh! And one more thing, will they marry me to the person I don't love? They've got to be kidding me.
"Thalia, you know that we know who and what's the best for you. We won't let you marry a bad person. Look at us," Daddy pointed out to them. "We are also a product of arranged marriage but we learned to love each other. We also want that child from you. Help you choose who you will marry-"
I cut her off rudely. "Just help, Mommy! It's not up to you to decide who I will marry and when we will get married!"
"Thalia!" Dad yelled at me.
My tears flowed forever. Dad never raised his voice at me and because of that fucking tradition, he did?!
I've been saying it's okay for them to get involved in our lifetime decisions but I realized it's not okay!
Mommy held Daddy's arm.
"Thalia, trust us. That's why we're going to do a modern arranged marriage with you, aren't we? It's also for the business,"
There! They said it! I can't believe that's just for tradition! It's for the fucking money too! And I can't believe that they would trade in their daughter for the sake of the business! And whatever that modern arranged marriage they used to say, I don't freaking care! It is still arranged!
I shook. "Mom, I know that I'm just an average college student. I'm not as smart as Daphne. But mom, believe me, I can help you run the business effectively. You don't have to reconcile me just to be better. our business is thriving. " My tears flowed continuously as I uttered those words.
Do they look down on me so much that they think I'm unreliable in running our business?
Daphne hugged me tightly.
"It's not like that, Thalia!" Mommy who was crying too.
"Then why do you need to-"
Daddy cut me off. "Enough of this argument! You are going to be in an arranged marriage, whether you like it or not, Thalia. We will arrange a dinner tomorrow with them." He said emphatically.
I stood up and shook. "I would rather die than marry a man I don't love for the sake of tradition and money." I also said emphatically and ran to my room.
I cried and cried in my bed hoping that it will ease the pain and anger I'm feeling. I will never agree to that. I'll make a way just so that doesn't continue. It's not gonna happen with me. Over my dead body.
I felt someone opened my door but I did not move. If it's my Mom and Dad, it's good for them to catch me crying so they can see I'm miserable in their decision on me.
My bed woke up, an indication that whoever entered my room was sitting there.
"Sister..." I sensed worry in Daphne's voice.
At this point of my life, Daphne calling me sister is the only thing that would make me calm. She's my only ally now, I'm sure. She is the only one I can count on at these times.
I got up from the bed and faced her.
I held her hand. "Daph, please help me convince them. I don't want to marry someone I don't love. Please..."
Maybe they would agree if it's Daphne who will convince them since she's more responsible than me. Surely no parent will refuse the request of a kind child, right?
She looked at me miserably and helplessly. "I understand you sister but I-I can't do that. I-It's their order..." I sensed fear in her voice. Fear of what I'm going to feel, maybe.
"What? What if you're in my situation? What if next year, you'll get married too. Will you just agree because they ordered that?" I was no longer deterred.
She could not answer. She bowed.
My shoulder dropped. Of course, if I was rebellious once, she was so obedient to our parents that she would follow everything they told her even if she was no longer happy. I feel sad for her if that's the case because if this happens to her she won't fight like me. Again my tears flowed but it wasn't just for me, it was for the life of my only sister.
She wiped my tears away gently. "Sister, like this, you agree to meet him tomorrow first. If you don't want him, tell me. I'll help you convince Mommy and Daddy in any way, I promise."
I was moved by what Daphne said. It somehow made me calm. But even if I have a good impression tomorrow of my future fiancée, I will reject hm immediately. It will save his ass, too.
I didn't sleep well because of what happened. The result, I felt so heavy the other day. Heavy because of the lack of sleep and because of my situation.
At the breakfast table I don't speak and Mom tries to reach out to me but all I showed was indifference to them. I am mad. I am upset.
"What the hell? Are you fcking kidding me, Thalia Ysabel Villegas?!" Brent, my girl at heart bestfriend almost disturbed the peaceful sleep of the dead people because of his reaction.
Having him as my bestfriend is a blessing for me. It's like I have my own stylist slash walking diary because of him.
I told him my situation and just like me, he was very shocked. He actually surpassed my reaction. He's cursing so hard!
"B*tch, I won't joke a thing like that. Can you filter your mouth?" I looked at him sharply.
It's good and he's not in pain anymore. Seeing him react like that means I am really in trouble and it strengthens me. I know he'll be against this too. I have another ally.
He slapped his mouth. "Oh! Sorry. I just got carried away, my friend." He signed peace.
I rolled my eyes and sighed.
We are here in our usual spot during break. On one of the benches surrounding the side edge of the entire campus sheltered by gigantic Narra trees so crisp. We can't eat anymore because of my story. Who else will have an appetite because of what I said, right?
"So, what are your plans now, Thalia?" He looked at me with his eyes full of worry.
I shrugged and sighed again. "Seriously, Brent, I don't know. All I know is I don't want to face an arranged marriage." I said hopelessly.
Even though Daphne promised I was still skeptical. Who wouldn't doubt even if you still have assurance when it comes to lifetime decisions? Damn! My parents are making me crazy!
He let out a deep sigh too. "I will help you no matter what, Thalia. But I suggest you get to know your 'fiancé' first. Give him a chance. You know he's a cutie, don't you? Knowing aunt Daieanah, she'll never let her daughters marry of who-who! " His language is flirtatious.
I looked at him with dagger eyes. This person, really. Really handsome yet to be remembered! I don't know if he's handsome and rich. It will never hide the fact that he's just going to marry me because of money! I don't like that! I wanna marry for love!
"Stop it, b*tch! I won't give that man a chance, ever!"
He rolled his eyes dramatically. "Fine! Anyway, I know you're obsessed with Aldrin. You will never give others a chance. "
My shoulder dropped at what he said. That's another one. I told myself that I would force Aldrin to be my destiny but because of that stupid plan I was perplexed by my observations of him. Instead of following him now I am here and having trouble 'marrying' me. But I won't allow it.
"And speaking of Papa,"
I shifted my gaze to where my bestfriend's gaze was sticky.
I rolled my eyes. The most prominent playboys in town from the business administration department were walking along the school campus with all confidence, enjoying the attention they get from the cheap girls they were passing. They're really still walking tall?
The women they pass are shaking with excitement. The cheap of your tastes! It's funny to think that who are the most windy, womanly and most powerful and also wealthy on campus is he still really put together. What a perfect group! After all, same birds flock together. They are a big shame in business ad!
"Gosh, Thalia! I think I'm gonna get pregnant!" Brent said loudly so the three of us turned around.
Jared raised an eyebrow at us and Travis and Trevor, the semi-identical twins of his male troopers, whistled before we passed.
What the fck? Thick!
Brent was stunned. "Did you see that, Thalia? They just ignored us! I think that's a good sign!" He said sarcastically while still holding both his cheeks.
In everything Brent and I agree on this matter.
He's an admirer of those three bastards and I can't believe it! I mean, he is a classy person but can he really go crazy with them? Very tasteless! We've argued that thing many times and I'll bring it again this time. Thrilling!
"Shut up, Brent! I don't understand why you like them. I mean, duh, women! They're not delicate!" No brakes I said.
"It hurts you to speak! That's what turns them on! Their womanhood!" He giggled.
I rolled my eyes. He really a gay.
When he noticed I didn't get what he said he then explained. "You know, Thalia, they're playboys so it means, a lot of experience in bed. They're good there! If I'll ever be in bed by one of them, I'll sure be pleasured!"
My cheeks warmed at what he said. Gosh, my bestfriend is a pervert!
He burst out laughing at my reaction. I was shaken.
"You're the only one who's bitter with them. I really don't know what's in there in your eyes and you don't appreciate them. Gosh their faces, like greek goddess! Their aura, feminine! Their bodies, dressed We're all just salivating. How about when they're naked! I'm pretty sure they're all big! Especially my Jared! OMG! "
With what he said was so vulgar, I beat him up. What is that body just chasing? I can't believe him. And my eyes have no problem, they have the problem. I hate them especially Jared because maybe for being their plyaboys? They are rich and powerful do they think they have the law? The density! They should prefer the likes of Aldrin who are matured and sober. It is not only his pure forms that are known. But it's okay that they're all in those three. Aldrin is just mine.
"That's hurt, Thalia!" He stroked his nape in a girly manner.
"Many of you!"
He giggled. "You don't look like this to your Aldrin. I wonder if you're fantasizing about him every night,"
"I'm not like you, b*tch!" I kept shouting.
he shrugged. "I hope so, Thalia."
My day went fast. I couldn't focus on studying because of my parents 'mania anyway. Maybe when I fail this sem and the reason is that I am preoccupied because there they will realize that it will not be good for me so they will stop! Or maybe they just push that even harder? Gosh!
My frustration only subsides when I try Aldrin on the school grounds. No moves for you today, baby. My mind is so fucked up to do it.
When we arrived at the house, nanny Gina greeted us immediately to tell us to get dressed immediately because our 'guests' were coming. They're not welcome here and I will never welcome their son in my heart.
As what I've planned, I'll tell Daphne that I won't trip you'll introduce me to later. Other than that I will show disrespectful things in front of them. I'm sure if they were insulted by my behavior they wouldn't marry me for their child. What parent wants to have an illegitimate son -in -law, right? I won't think of my family's reaction to my plan anymore because I'll just tremble in fear and I might not be able to carry out my plan.
So, even though the nanny had been knocking on my door outside earlier, I pretended to be still taking a bath.
I smile. They should have turned me off at first.
After fifteen minutes I just left the room.
"You're just a kid! They've been waiting for you at the table for a while! What happened to you? And, why are you wearing that?!" Nanny hysterical introduction to me.
I laughed. "I'm sorry, Besides, what's wrong with what I'm wearing?" I asked innocently.
I looked at myself in the mirror on the stairs. I smiled secretly. I really meant to wear pajamas for this dinner. Let's just see if they can still like me for my lack of respect and class.
Nanny Gina frowned. I want to celebrate at her reaction. She just got weirded out of me. What about the people on the chin?
"Nothing. Oh hey, come down so you can see your future in-laws and your future husband." Nanny said seriously.
I rolled my eyes at what she said. It's not gonna happen, Nanny Gina.
As I approached the dining area, I heard the story of daddy and our 'visitors'.
"Maybe my daughter is just getting better so it took a while. You'll have to be patient," Mommy said.
I smirked evilly. Yes, Mommy. I'm fixing too much.
I walk straight towards them.
I looked at them nothing but daddy. "Hi, Dad!" I let out a fake smile and kissed Daddy on the cheek. "Sorry, I'm late,"
Dad's eyes widened and he even stood up when he saw what I was wearing. "Thalia! W-Why are you wearing your pajamas?!" He said angrily.
My heart was celebrating.
Mommy leaned over Daddy and held his arm to calm him down.
Sorry for this, Dad. You can punish me in any way you want after this and I'll accept it wholeheartedly just don't let me marry a stranger.
"What's the matter with my pajamas, dad?" I have an innocent question.
"Sister..." Daphne but I didn't look back.
Just bear with me, sis. We'll celebrate later.
Daddy let out a deep sigh. "This is a formal occasion! It's embarrassing what you're wearing!"
I bit my lower lip. I thought I'm ready for humiliation but I think I'm not.
"Uh, it's fine, sir."
I turned to the speaker behind me and rolled my eyes to see who it was.
"Aldrin?" My question startled me.
What is he doing here?!
I glanced at the rest of our guests and realized Mr. and Mrs. That's Villacorta! Oh no, no, don't tell me...
I turned to Mommy and Daddy with my questioning eyes.
"I bet you know them already, Thalia. This is Mr. and Mrs. Villacorta. Their son, Phillip Aldrin Villacorta is our prospect husband for you."
To be continued...
Chapter 3:Modern
"I bet you already know them, Thalia. This is Mr. and Mrs. Villacorta. Their son, Phillip Aldrin Villacorta is our prospect husband for you."Mommy said.
My jaw dropped extremely and I stiffened.
OH MY GOSH! Did they just say they will marry me to Aldrin who has been estranged from me for seven years?! Holy shit! Tell me I'm not dreaming!
I could not speak. Fck, I am lost for words!
Now I realized, my parents know who and what's best for me! And not just the best, huh? My long-time crush is going to be my husband! Oh, destiny's got to be kidding me!
I chased after him but in the end, I also fell for him! And, I almost lost this opportunity, huh? I should say thank you and sorry at the same time to my parents.
"Phillip, Andreia, I'm so sorry. I just can't control myself anymore," Dad said while laughing awkwardly. "Please forgive my daughter for being late and for wearing that," Dad looked at me sharply.
Shame arose in me. Damn! I was immediately charmed by my bad plans! I am backfired!
I bowed. Can I just go upstairs again and change clothes? I'll just hurry really promise! My outfit is so disgusting! I bet Aldrin is now turned off, oh damn it!
Mr. Villacorta laughed heartily. "It's fine, Joseph. I understand you because I am a father, too. And don't worry. If Thalia's more comfortable with her pajamas, it's fine." He looked at me and smiled genuinely.
I felt ashamed again. Damn it! I know they're still turned off! It's like I'm a spoiled brat that only matured people care about!
Dad sighed. "Okay! So, let's eat now?"
I sat down next to Daphne, opposite Aldrin. He is next to his mommy and next to his mommy is his daddy. My family and I were also in one row, letting us face one another.
I can't look at Aldrin. I'm ashamed of how I look now. I surely look like a mess while he's well-dressed! And it feels like he did not put an effort to make his face that handsome! He's naturally god-like looking! I'm embarrassed! I didn't even think to put on liptint!
"So you're going to the same school with my daughter, Aldrin?" Daddy ask to Aldrin.
"Yes, sir."
"Oh so I guess, you're close with her?" Mommy asked excitedly.
If you only knew mom, that's a snob!
"Uhm..." Aldrin hesitated.
Hmm, hot seat.
We looked at each other.
Mr. Villacorta laughed. "Hmm. Whatever. Now, you two will need to be close. You'll start dating, you know,"
My eyes rolled.
"W-what?"
"My son and you will date for 6 months starting from know so that you'll get to know each other, Thalia."
Life is, when luck befalls you, it keeps pouring out. We're not just getting married, are we? We're still dating! What a life!
"Right. If you two click in the end, it would be a perfect fit. Our businesses will merge and go stronger together!"Mommy said.
I was blown away by what mommy said. Business again. But I don't have a pack if that's what they have in mind. What matters is what is on my mind: I will love him with all my heart despite our arrangement.
Mr. Villacorta laughed again. "That's right, Daieanah. Of course all the materials for our projects will be from you. Then, you will recommend our firm to all your customers, especially the big ones. If... these two will click." He turned to Aldrin and me.
I smiled inwardly. This arrangement is very beneficial not just for me but for our parents, also. I just don't know about Aldrin. I love this arrangement!
My night was very magical. I feel like I'm a princess that's given all her rants. It's fun and I won't have to force the fate of Aldrin and me. He's the one doing it!
My parents know that I like Aldrin. Maybe that's the reason why they chose him to be my fiancée. But why didn't they tell me earlier? I wouldn't have fought yet, would I? Maybe it's a surprise? Is it still my gift for my 18th birthday? What a great gift! Now, I'm more convinced that I create my own fate. Because if they don't know mommy my feelings for Aldrin, they might send me to others. It's really good!
"Daphne! I can't believe it! " I wandered off to her bed.
After dinner earlier, Aldrin and I left immediately because they were supposed to be going somewhere, so I didn't have a chance to talk to him just the two of us. We didn't talk at the table before because only our parents were talking. I could only glance at him before while he seemed to be focused on his food, so even though I really wanted to talk to him in front of everyone, I didn't do it because I felt like he just wouldn't answer me or his answers will be short and I don't want to be embarrassed. Later, they would say that I was very desperate (isn't it?) He was serious and even a little naughty before. I'm hurt by that fact but I'll do something about his way of treatment on me. Is he still my fiancée?
"Sister, shut up! It's already late!" She said irritably.
I stared at her. Take a look at this one. Just yesterday she promised to help and she would support me, and now that I'm happy, is she like this? What a nice attitude, sis!
"Can you once support me?!" I fired at her.
She rolled her eyes. "I always support you. I'm just telling you to lower your voice cause it's late night already! "
I sucked. Is it my fault that I'm so happy that I can speak without shouting now?
"Tss"
"So, what should I do now that he's my fiancée? I'm planning to bring him food everyday at school. Is that okay?" I was excited to say.
Of course he must realize that he will be careful to marry. I smiled at that thought.
She was face-palm. "Seriously, sister?! That's rich and he can afford to buy his own food! Don't do that! Boys hate girls who's showing too much affection towards them. That turns it off,"
My shoulder dropped. If you can speak it sounds like a love expert, huh? Until now, it seems that no man has passed her taste!
We are brothers but we have different views when it comes to love. If I was about to push myself to the one she liked, then when she wanted to, maybe she would definitely not even introduce herself to the man because of his principles.
Annoying.
Fortunately, she is beautiful. But all I can say is that, still moving, sis!
"And, you're not her fiancée sister yet," She rolled her eyes again.
My forehead furrowed.
"What are you talking about? We're under arranged marriage so surely, he's my fiancée!"
"Correction, 'modern' fixed marriage." She put emphasis on the word modern.
What is that modern fixed marriage and they said that yesterday? Gosh am I that dumb that I don't know that kind of arrangement?
"So basically, he's still a prospected husband for you. Not totally your fiancée," she added.
Huh?
My younger sibling is very knowledgeable and I hate it at times like this when she uses it to mock me.
"Prospected husband? It doesn't look like that either!" What does it say? I don't understand her!
She sighed heavily. "Sister, modern arranged marriage means -"
I cut her off. "Hep! Enough! Don't destroy my happiness," I warned, raising my hands at her showing her to stop talking.
"It's up to you. You haven't won yet. Just don't be complacent, sister. Even with your feelings for Aldrin. That's a modern arranged marriage." There was a threat in her voice.
Huh, will that change? That word isn't included in my vocabulary for my feelings for Aldrin. As I said, these feelings I have for him have been going strong for 7 years now.
Despite his ugliness and even once in a blue moon he only shuddered, I did not resent, I did not try to forget him or forget and be obsessed with others.
He's just really been around for a long time. So whatever Daphne warns me, it's not a threat. It will always be him.
When I woke up this morning, the first thing I felt was joy. Even with dressing and eating the smile never left my lips. Are you the one who will marry your crush one day even if you have nothing to do? But of course, as I thought last night, I'll do something about his way of treatment for me.
He can't always be rude to me. I need to tame him before we get married.
"Seriously, girl?! Oh gosh, you really are!" Brent after I told him what happened last night.
Because I was so happy last night, I couldn't tell him right away. All I did was to imagine all the possibilities of Aldrin and being in one roof in the near future. I also prefer to tell him personally so that I can see his reaction.
"I know right!" I flipped my hair.
He choked fakely. "Look at you girl. Yesterday, you even beat the one who died, now you even beat the lottery winner if you can!"
I laughed loudly. Whatever other insults I receive from him now I don't think I will be annoyed and I will just let him because of the overflowing pity I feel.
"Crazy!" He spat.
I just smiled. When I turned to my side, I saw Aldrin walking towards the main building of the campus.
I smiled broadly.
"Brent, do you see what I see?" I asked him, still looking at Aldrin.
"Oh! Your beloved fiancée," He said, we're now both staring at Aldrin.
He's just ignoring the girls who were greeting him. That's good. He is no longer available, flirts!
"Ah, the amount of flirting with him, Thalia." Brent said teasingly, stating the obvious.
I smirked evilly. "Hmm..." I grabbed my bag and ambushed away.
"And where are you going?"
"I'll just teach those desperate girls a lesson. We'll just meet in the room," I said and hurriedly left to catch up with Aldrin.
I'll show them how hopeless they are now towards the starplayer of the campus.
"Aldrin!" I gasped as I called to him when I could almost catch up with him in the corridor.
He stopped walking and turned to me. Her eyes widened so I straightened up.
Hand in hand with his head he approached me and my heart was pounding so hard because of chasing him even more mad. He did not ignore me this time! In the past, even though he knew it was me, he didn't look back when I called him.
I smiled widely at him.
"What is it, Thalia? Are you okay?" He asked in a worried tone.
Oh! The way he uttered my name is music to my ears. And... he's concerned!
"I-I'm fine."
He nodded and did not speak.
"Are you free tonight? Let's have dinner?" I asked desperately, not wanting to end the conversation with him.
This is my plan, actually. If he doesn't make a trip for us to date as a rule, I will take the initiative and make an effort, just be close to each other. Oh, the things I can do for love!
His eyes narrowed and I bit my lower lip. I surely look so desperate right now.
"We'll have a group study later, Thalia." He said, sincerely.
Oh! I forgot, my crush is a studious person.
"Is that so? Then how about tomorrow?" My eyes twinkled.
He sighed. "I need to review tomorrow night, Thalia. We have a long quiz the day after tomorrow."
Nice one!
"Oh, okay. Then how about–"
"Thalia..." He warned.
I bit my lower lip. Why are you so difficult, Aldrin?
"Aldrin, our parents said let's date so that we get to know each other," I said like he didn't know it.
Gosh, is this another embarrassment? How often, Aldrin?
"I know that, Thalia. But not now. We have a lot of activities in our department."
I pouted. "Are you avoiding me?"
He sighed again heavily. I jumped when he grabbed my chin and lifted it to keep our gaze aligned. "I'm not, okay? We're just really busy. I'm sorry. Maybe on weekends, okay?" He said sincerely as he looked at me directly in the eyes.
His face is so close to mine that I feel like I'm going to faint.
I nodded slowly and all my previous contributions suddenly dissolved. I'm really fragile when it comes to you, Phillip Aldrin Villacorta!
"I gotta go. Our class is about to start. Come in too," he said and turned his back on me.
I just sighed when he walked away. This is a long journey of pleasing, I think.
"Oh! Look who got rejected by his crush! Thalia Villegas, the loveliest girl on campus!"
I looked sharply at the laughing Jared who was still holding his stomach. I only knew his voice.
"Excuse me?!"
He still couldn't stop laughing. He coughed fakely and became serious when he saw my angry reaction.
"Aldrin Villacorta, the cold, mean and snob engineering student of this university. Hmm, tell me, why him? Your bad taste." He scoffs at language.
I think all the blood went up to my head. "How dare you talk to of him like that?! You don't know if he's the one I want! We're not close! Because you're just jealous because he's sober, matured and has a destination in life unlike you who did nothing but go to bed. girl! " I spat angrily, forgetting to filter my mouth.
His jaw clenched. His playful stare turned mad.
What? You can't speak? Did I step on your ego? Good for you!
I raised an eyebrow at him and my heart was celebrating because of his bad trip but my pleasure was immediately lost when he stepped closer to me, invading my personal space. I recoiled because of nervousness. He's very dangerous right now. I continued to back away until I could feel the cold wall behind me. I was swallowed. He cornered me!
He bent his two hands on either side of me, enclosing me in his arms. My knees are shaking. He's angry! I'm angry!
"I'll never be insecure with that man and if that's what you think of me, I'll prove you wrong." There is emphasis on every word he utters. It sent shivers down my spine.
I could not speak. It was as if a lump had stuck in my throat.
He withdrew his hands from me lazily and walked away from me like a king who just visited a slave.
I breathed heavily. I've been holding my breath for a while! I was stunned for a while before recovering.
What was that?
Stupidly I went to the classroom, still preoccupied of everything.
"How long have you been here? I guess that's how long you and papa Aldrin talked, Thalia!" Brent's opening mocked me.
"Tss..." I only answered him because I couldn't get Jared's expression out of my brain before.
My life went well that day. It was not like yesterday that heaven and earth seemed to cover me. Of course that's because of the fact my fiancee is my crush.
When I got home, I immediately went to our car. Yes, until now Daphne and I are still coming. Well, the perks of having protective parents. Fortunately, my brother and I had the same schedule so we went home together. The senior high school building of the university is just two buildings awau from the business administration building.
"Oh, sister huh? Have a formal dinner again later. Please wear something decent." There was a threatening sound in her voice.
My forehead furrowed.
Dinner? Again? Why does it seem like I've had a grand dinner at home every day since I was eighteen?
"Dinner?" I voiced my astonishment.
"Yup. 'Weren't you informed?"
I shook. "For what again?"
"Still for your arrangement, of course." She shrugged.
I nodded and didn't ask any more questions.
If it's for my arrangement, I should be happy. At least I'll see Aldrin again. But did he say he would do something now? Wouldn't he go?
So, when I got home I immediately got dressed. I wore a black longsleeve dress. They should see me as a decent woman. I just hope first impressions for them don't last.
When I arrived at the dining area, only my family was there.
I kissed my mom and dad's cheek as usual and went beside Daphne's chair to sit.
"It's good and you're down early now," Daddy said.
I sneezed. "Are Mr. and Mrs. Villacorta coming?" I lose the conversation.
Daddy frowned.
"They're not our guests for tonight, Daughter." Mommy answered.
"Huh? Isn't this dinner still for my arrangement?" I turned to daddy with my puzzled eyes.
"Yes."
"Why is it different?" I was nervous to question.
Don't tell me he won't marry me anymore?!
"Daughter, this is a modern arranged marriage." Mommy again.
My forehead furrowed. "I don't understand, mom. What is that and why do you always mention it?"
"Sister, you don't listen to me when I try to explain that to you. Modern arranged marriage means you will have several possible mates, either chosen by the parents and sometimes with the help of the child. In your case, mommy and daddy The parents will set a meeting with the family of the prospective mates. This is what we're doing. Then, you will date them both to see who is more deserving. At the end of the given period of courtship, you will choose who you will marry. " Daphne's long explanation.
My eyes rolled.
Why do Daphne and I know so well that we are going to reconcile not knowing it?! Am I so careless in studying and I don't know about it?!
"W-what?"
I can't take it all in! What. The. Hell!
Mom held my hand. "Don't worry Daughter. We will let you decide in the end but we will still guide you. Your dad and I chose two mates for you. You met one last night and now the other."
"N-no need mom! Aldrin is okay–"
What I was about to say was cut short when an assistant entered the dining area.
"Sir, the Arevalo family is already there."
"All right. Keep them here,"
Arevalo?
Before I could ask, a couple came in shouting pomp.
My eyes widened as I saw behind the couple the person I hated the most in the world.
Jared Alexandro Arevalo!
