Chapter 1 One

Amelia's POV

Grabbing two glasses from the table and taking them to the sink that was filled with soapy water, Cora slowly entered the kitchen. My eyes caught her, her hair as beautiful as always. Brown with soft curls hanging over her breasts. Never had I met someone like her, a bitch. Someone who was out to make my life a living hell. Since the day I was taken in by the Nightshade pack I had been classified as a rogue. Worthless and unlovable.

Cora's eyes were fixed on mine. With a smile, Cora steps closer to me, and then her smile disappears instantly. Her eyes fell on the two glasses in my hands, and her devious smile quickly returned. With that, she knocked the glasses out of my hands, "What the fuck Cora?" My voice echoes through the kitchen.

"Oops. My bad. Better get that cleaned up before Elijah gets here." Cora said with a sinister smile before turning around and then making her way out of the kitchen. Slowly. But I could see the smirk that was painted on Cora's face.

My mouth hung open, and only one word could escape my mouth, "Fuck." my voice was just above whisper. Rushing to the pantry where the brooms and cleaning supplies were kept, I quickly grabbed the broom and dustpan. "One day I will be able to leave this hell hole and just live my life." Whispering to myself, I quickly cleaned the mess that Cora had created. Opening the dustbin before dumping the broken glass into it, the sound of glass broke the silence that filled the kitchen.

A sigh left my mouth, slowly making my way to the sink and staring out of the window. Wondering what my life would have been like if I wasn't dumped as a kid. Who could blame the pack for seeing me as a rogue? A maid? Someone to do everyone's bidding. Someone who couldn't even be loved by their own parents. Leaning against the sink, the thought of knowing as soon as I receive my wolf I would be able to escape this hell and build my own life.

Elijah entered the kitchen quietly, his steps undetectable. "What is this laziness that I'm seeing? These dishes aren't going to clean themselves!" He said with a harsh tone. With Cora standing behind him, she let out a soft chuckle.

My eyes quickly flung open, and then I met Elijah's. "I was only taking a breather. You make such a mess every day, it's hard to keep up with your messes." I snapped, as I pushed myself away from the sink.

"Excuse you! That is no way to speak to your Alpha." Cora chipped in, stepping in front of Elijah.

Elijah pulled her back giving her a deadly stare. "Enough." He said as his eyes were fixed on hers. "Amelia." His voice sends shivers down my spine, but not in a good way. More of a disgusted way.

"What?" I said with no intention of listening. Turning my back towards him, I continued taking dishes to the sink.

"Didn't you hear what Cora said? How dare you speak to your Alpha in such a disrespectful way?" He asked then stepped closer to me, leaving me no space to move past him.

"You don't deserve to be treated with respect. And as far as the title Alpha goes, you don't deserve it." I said with my voice growing softer with each word.

Elijah grabbed my face, hoping I would fear him. But I stood my ground. Our eyes locked with each other. Not one blink. A smile crept onto his face. "Fine. You will be working tomorrow at our engagement party." His grip loosened, then stepped back.

"What? No! You promised it would be my day off. It's my fucking birthday." I said my voice filled with shock and disappointment.

"I changed my mind. Ensure this kitchen is clean before heading to your room." Elijah said with a smirk then turned around. Wrapping his arm around Cora's waist.

Cora looked over her shoulder and gave a devious smile, letting out a soft laugh. "Enjoy your cleaning. We will see you tomorrow." Cora said, then placed her hand into Elijah's back pocket.

Silence filled the kitchen. Slamming my hand onto the kitchen counter, I let out a sigh. "One day. One day Amelia, you will get out of this place. One day you will know what true happiness feels like." Shaking my head I continued cleaning the kitchen.

***

After hours of cleaning, I finally made my way to my room. Sitting on the bed, staring out of the window. Images of how this could have been if I wasn't a bastard child. Thrown away, disowned. Tears started to fill my eyes, unable to contain them they flowed down my cheeks. My eyes were red and puffy from the salty waters that consumed my eyes. Unable to stop them, I could only let them flow until they were dried up.

Thoughts started to consume me, 'Will I receive my wolf? Or would she also leave me as my parents did?' My twenty-first birthday, the day I would find out if the Moon goddess would bless me with a mate or will I be left to be on my own. Not like I would want a mate. Elijah had shown me that men are horrible creatures. Only there to misuse and mistreat you.

My eyes grew heavy. Tiredness started to take over. All the crying and the work that had to be done to make sure everything would be ready for tomorrow started to take its toll on me. Yet to clean myself, I forced myself off the bed and filled the bucket that was given to me when I first started living here. Watching as the water from the sink started to fill the bucket, I closed the tap and grabbed my bag where I kept my soap and washcloth.

The water was ice cold. According to Elijah, I wasn't worthy of having warm water. Even in the winter times, only cold water was given to me. Over the years one learns to bathe quickly, to not freeze. But tonight I was too tired, slowly I washed my long dark brown hair. Coldness started to take over my body, shivers started to take its course.

Wrapping my hair in the small towel that I had, I sat on the cold floor. Contemplating if I should continue bathing any further. Letting out a sigh I continued. Dipping the washcloth into the water I started washing my face and moving down to my body. After I was done, I got dressed and climbed into bed. Slowly my eyes closed and I dosed off to sleep. The thoughts of tomorrow still lingered in my mind.

Chapter 2 Two

Caiden's POV

Caiden sat at his desk in his office, tapping his pen on his chin. Lost in thought then a knock on his door snapped him back into reality, "Come in!" His voice echoed through the office.

The door swung open and Alpha Noah and his mate Eleanor walked through the doorway. Caiden quickly made his way to his feet and greeted them with respect, "Alpha Noah and Omega Eleanor, afternoon. What do I owe this unexpected visit?" Caiden said with a surprised tone.

"Alpha Caiden, please tell us you have any news regarding our daughter. It has been weeks since you had given us an update. We need to know if you have found her." Noah said with an intense tone.

"Unfortunately, I don't have an answer yet. I'm still trying to-" Caiden said but was interrupted by Noah.

"We know the Nightshade pack took our daughter. There is no doubt about that. They are the outcast pack. Everyone knows, including your pack, what the Nightshade pack is capable of." Noah said as he pulled out a chair in front of Caiden's desk.

"Alpha Noah, I understand the importance of the situation but I can't just go waltzing in there and demand them to hand over someone that Alpha Elijah has no idea about," Caiden said falling into his leather chair. 'At least I don't think he does.' He thought to himself.

"I know. I know." Noah said then his Omega placed her hand on his left leg. Giving her a smile he turned his attention back towards Caiden. "Please, we need to know if our daughter is still out there and if she..." Stopping mid-sentence, he closed his eyes. Caiden could see he was fearing the worst.

"Alpha Noah, I promised you I would stop at nothing. I am a man of my word. I will find her, please just give me a little bit more time." Caiden said leaning forward and waiting for Noah to turn his attention back to him.

"Very well. I trust you Alpha Caiden. Please, we're counting on you. Bring our daughter home." Noah said then made his way to his feet. He turned to his Omega and helped her up and Caiden walked them to the door.

Opening the door, Noah turned to Caiden, "You're the only one that can bring her home, if..." Noah's swallow was loud, then Caiden gave a warm smile and placed his hand on Noah's shoulder.

"She's out there. Well and healthy. I will find her. That is a promise." Caiden said, his warm smile turning into a sympathetic one.

"Thank you, Alpha," Noah said then left Caiden's office.

Caiden closed his office door and made his way back to his desk. Before he could sit there was a knock on his door once again. "Yes?" He said with a confused look on his face.

The door slowly crept open, "Alpha, can I enter?" A voice asked with the door slightly opened.

"Enter Beta Leo," Caiden said then Leo opened the door completely. "You know when I answer you are permitted to enter. No need to ask for permission."

"Yes, Alpha. Understood." Leo stood in front of Caiden's desk with his hands folded in front of him. While holding an envelope.

Caiden raised one eyebrow and stared at Leo, "What is it Beta?" Caiden asked before pulling his chair closer and taking a seat.

"A letter from the Nightshade Pack. It is an invitation to join them in celebrating Alpha Elijah's engagement." Leo said before handing Caiden the envelope.

Caiden's eyes widened by the information, "Engagement?" He said with shock.

"Yes, Alpha. The invention is for tomorrow." Leo said keeping his post.

Opening the letter, Caiden eyes scanned the page. "This is perfect. Now I have a valid reason to go there." He said while rubbing his chin with his index finger. "Please inform Alpha Elijah that I will be attending. Alone."

Leo gave Caiden a confused look, "But Alpha, wouldn't you want to take any of the women of the pack with you? Maybe they might be your mate and-" Leo stopped knowing he had overstepped.

"Enough. I don't need a mate to lead my pack. And I don't have any intention of finding a mate. Anyway, I won't be attending it entirely alone. You will be accompanying me." Caiden said leaning back in his chair. "So, pack your bags we will leave first thing tomorrow morning."

"But Alpha-" Leo said then got interrupted.

"You mate will be fine without you for one night. Go." Caiden said then noticed Leo didn't move. "Now Beta."

"Yes, Alpha," Leo said then bowed and made his way out of the office.

Caiden leaned back into his chair then turned around and stared out of the window. His mind was consumed by the thought of Elijah. About how he will try and fish out answers about Alpha Noah's daughter if he knows anything about her. But his mind kept asking, how?

Making his way to his feet he made his way to his room, grabbing a suitcase to start packing. His thoughts started to run away, knowing that the Moon goddess didn't bless him with a mate. Unable to admit this to anyone, he pretended not to want a mate. That he didn't feel the need to search for her.

Caiden's eyes turned bright green before a voice started to speak, "Well. Seems someone is a bit self-conscious about not having a mate." Flint, Caiden's wolf said.

"No, I'm not! I don't need a mate or anyone." Caiden said as anger filled this voice.

"Sounds to me like you do. If you didn't reject all the mates that the Moon goddess presented to you then you might have had a mate by now. But we all know, you only receive one, and you were given too many chances." Flint said.

"I know. But it doesn't matter. I don't need a mate to be the Alpha. And by the way, not everyone needs to know that I didn't get another mate, okay." Caiden said with irritation.

"Fine. But don't be pissed at me. I can't control what you do or say. I'm only here to help you in your wolf form and to give advice. If you don't follow it." Flint said and waited for Caiden to speak.

"It is my decision. I know." Caiden said then let out a sigh.

"Maybe, the Moon goddess will take pity on you and give you Elijah's mate," Flint said with a chuckle.

"Flint! Come on." Caiden said shaking his head.

"Fine, sorry. Get some sleep. You have a long and interesting day tomorrow." Flint said then Caiden's eyes changed back to brown.

Another sigh left Caiden's mouth once again. He fell back onto his bed, his eyes fixed on the ceiling. Closing his eyes slowly he fell asleep.

Chapter 3 Three

Amelia's POV

My eyes were heavy from sleep, I forced them open. It was still dark the sun had yet to show its bright red and orange colors. Forcing myself out of bed, I quickly got dressed and made my way down the stairs to get started on the preparations for Elijah's engagement party. Today was my twenty-first birthday. The day I would get my wolf. The day I would find out if I would receive a mate or not.

Placing everything that would be needed to use the day, neatly placed on the counter. As I was busy preparing everything Cora entered the kitchen without me realizing. She crept close, her footsteps as soft as a mouse. Turning around I bumped into her and our eyes met. "So, everything ready for my engagement party, rogue?" Cora's voice broke the silence that filled the kitchen.

Shoving past her I continued doing my job, "What do you think?" I snapped back while rolling my eyes.

"You know that isn't the respectful way to speak to your future Omega. Maybe Elijah and I should teach you some manners in the future." Cora said with an evil smile.

"You know what Cora, you and Elijah are not worth the respect. You understand that respect is earned, not just taken. You two need to lead to treat your pack members with some respect then maybe. Just maybe you might get some in return." The words spat out of my mouth before I could even think them through before saying it.

"Well, rogue if that is how you feel. Then maybe you should take your belongings a leave the pack." A voice echoed through the kitchen. A man's voice.

Slowly I turned around to find Elijah standing in the doorway. Assuming he had heard the entire conversation between me and Cora. Anger filled my eyes and I walked up to Elijah and our eyes met. The expression on his face indicated that he wanted me to agree to leave the pack. "Fine. I will leave this horrible place. You will be doing me a favor." I said, standing my ground.

"Fine. After the party make sure your things are packed. Then you can leave tonight." Elijah said with a cocky smile. Confusion took over my face. "What the matter little pup? Didn't think I would agree to let you leave? Or are you scared that you might not have a place to go to?" Saying this he tilted his head showing fake sympathy.

"Not at all. I will be fine on my own." I said with confidence, trying to hide my fear of living on the streets.

"Then it is settled you will move out tonight," Elijah said then turned around but immediately stopped in his tracks. "Oh, wait. Maybe tomorrow morning. You will have some last cleaning up to do." He turned his head a smiled.

Cora stepped closer to me and leaned in then whispered, "Can't wait to have you out of this house and out of my sight forever." Standing back she smiled, "Now, finish up before our guest arrives." She gave me another fake smile before she turned around and made her way out of the kitchen.

A sigh escaped my mouth, sadness started to take over my body and a single tear ran down my face. Wiping it away I continued. "Only today Amelia. Only today, then you will be free of this hell hole."

***

In the cold and dusty room, I slept in my entire existence was now going to be a memory. "Certainly, I'm not going to miss this," I whispered to myself, as I grabbed a suitcase and started packing my things.

Walking over to the mirror, I looked at myself with disgust. How I have been treated all of these years shows clearly. Closing my eyes I shook my head, then a voice spoke, "Hello my dear."

My eyes widened by the shock, noticing my eyes were bright purple, "Um, hello?" I said with hesitation.

"Don't fear my dear. I was sent by the Moon Goddess herself." The voice said.

"You're..." A smile crept onto my face. "You're my wolf. Hi. Wow, um..." I started to stutter, unable to find the correct words.

Laughter filled my mind, "Yes dear, I am. My name is Anya. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

"It's nice to meet you too. Wow, can't believe you're here right now." I said with a warm smile.

"Well, we're going to have forever to get to know each other but I have some news. The Moon Goddess has selected a mate for you." Anya said.

"Really? Why?" I said with confusion. Not believing I was worthy of having a mate.

"Sweetie, you know I can hear your thoughts. The Moon Goddess made the decision and decided you are worthy of having a mate."

"Um, okay. Who is it?" I asked, anxious to know the answer.

"It is Alpha Elijah," Anya said.

"What? No! No fucking way. It can't be. I don't want him as my mate." I said as anger started to take over my voice.

"The only way for you to break the bond is for him to reject you, and you to accept the rejection. If not you are to be his mate." Anya said, I could her sadness filling her tone.

"Fuck. Thank you, Anya. Sorry if I yelled it's just..." Silence filled the room. I was speechless.

"I understand. Not everyone is always happy with the mate the Moon Goddess chooses." Anya said with a sad tone. "We will talk soon okay, call on me whenever you need, my love."

"Yeah. Thank you." I said staring myself in the mirror and my eyes turned to their original color blue.

***

With anger in my veins, I rushed down to Elijah's office. Without knocking I barged into his office, to my surprise he wasn't busy with his normal day of meetings. He was fucking Cora. Looking away, I could feel that all eyes were on me now. "What the fuck Amelia?" Cora said with anger and quickly made her way to her feet.

"Sorry, I-" I said then got interrupted by Cora.

"There was a fucking reason why the door was closed, you pervert," Cora said then Elijah jumped into the conversation.

"Enough! Cora leave my office now." Elijah ordered her.

"But-"

"But nothing. Now. Go." Elijah said with a soft and even tone.

Cora gave me a dirty look and stormed out of Elijah's office, leaving us alone. "What is so important that you had to interrupt my time alone with my fiancé?" Elijah said as he zipped up his pants.

I stepped closer to his desk and shook my head, "You fucking knew." I said anger started to take over.

"Knew what?" He said then fell into his new leather chair.

"You knew we were mates and you didn't fucking tell me." I stood my ground, showing Elijah I meant business.

He let out a chuckle, "Someone finally got their wolf. Well, you are lucky that you have been chosen to be my mate. Anyone would love to have me as their mate." A smile started to creep onto his face.

"Not me. I would rather die than be by your side for my entire existence." Saying this I stood up straight, my eyes not leaving Elijah's.

"Excuse me?" Elijah said then made his way to his feet. He made his way around his desk. Stepping closer towards me, I stepped back. Slowly. But he kept taking steps closer to me. Before I could say anything I was pinned against the wall. Elijah's body was against mine, making me freeze in my spot. "You have disrespected me for the last time." Saying this he gripped my face. "I will give you until the end of the day to change your attitude, otherwise..."

"Otherwise what?" I said as I tried to keep my fear intact.

"Otherwise, for your punishment..." He said leaning closer towards me, leaving a small gap between our lips. "I'll think about it, and tell you when I think you have earned it." Releasing his grip, I took a big breath. "Now leave my office, I have to freshen up to greet my guest."

With a big breath, I made my way out of his office and went to the kitchen.
