"Fuck baby, you feel so fucken good," I grunted as I thrust harder into her.
The feeling of her walls clamping down around my cock was a sensation that I would never forget. As her soft moans reverberated around the room, I felt compelled to go deeper. When her nails began to dig into my back, a wave of chills ran up and down my spine. I had heard that one could have life's greatest pleasure when intimate with their destined mate. However, like so many stories, my own experience couldn't even begin to describe what I experienced. Closing my eyes, I relished the moment and recalled the second I saw her.
Nana and I had initially arrived for Daunte and Alessia's Alpha/Luna ceremony, a magnificent event; seeing the merging of two packs was never heard of, but to witness it was an honor. It wasn't until the reception started, and I was in the middle of speaking with Jonathan and Dominic, that I caught the most sensational scent of coconut and mango. The moment the scent entered my nose, nothing else mattered. It was as if a switch had been turned on, and the rest of the world around me had faded away.
My wolf, Lucifer, pushed me forward, pressuring me to seek out the scent that drew us together and which captivated our attention. As I glanced around the room, trying to locate where the sweet smell was coming from, suddenly, a sweet and familiar voice greeted me from behind, making my ears ring with sweetness.
"May I ask if you would like a refill?" came the sound of a voice I knew all too well.
My eyes were astonished when I turned around and saw the most beautiful she-wolf I had ever seen. Imagine my dismay when I realized the voice belonged to none other than Alessia's best friend, Jackie. The look on my face was one of shock as I stared at her. The two of us had worked together for quite some time and had grown close, but there had never been any indication that we were destined to be together.
"Jackie," I murmured her name, taking in her beauty as if it was the first time I had laid eyes on her. Her black hair was tightly tied into a high ponytail, freeing her face from any hair. The black satin dress she wore complimented her curves in just the right places, and a warm glimmer glowed in her hazel eyes as her pouty lips curled, and the word "Mate" escaped from her lips as if from nowhere. I gazed at her in pure admiration for a moment before stepping toward her, wrapping my arm around her waist, leaning into her, and whispering, "Let's talk."
"I'm working," Jackie murmured. Jackie had been Alessia's best friend for years, and while growing up, they bonded over their similar backgrounds; the main difference was that, unlike Alessia, Jackie was an omega.
"Wasn't there an invitation for you as a guest to attend your best friend's Alpha ceremony?" I asked, cocking my brow in confusion.
"Yes, there was, but I chose to work the event," Jackie replied with a smile.
Taking a step back and nodding, I smiled. "Would you please allow me five minutes of your time?" I asked her.
With a slight smile, Jackie obliged as she turned and led me to her quarters. At that moment, when the door closed, I lost control, and I rushed toward her, pulling her into me and giving her a deeply passionate kiss. In the midst of my sensual kisses, Jackie let out a soft moan as the soft massage of my lips sank into her skin. The sweet taste of her filled my mouth as I nibbled on her neck. Slowly, I backed her until we reached her bed, and I gently laid her down, a small smile gracing her beautiful face as we gazed into each other's eyes for a moment.
Slowly, I removed her clothes, revealing her exquisite curves and her soft skin. I gently kissed her lips and body, feeling my heart flutter as I looked into her eyes before gently making love to her. At that moment, I felt a deep connection, and I knew that I had fallen for her. Then, with one final thrust, we were both undone. We lay in each other's arms, our hearts racing and our breaths mingling. At that moment, I felt a deep sense of contentment that I had never experienced before.
"Goddess, had I known we would end up mated, I would have whisked you away long ago," I said as I turned to face her. My heart sank at that moment as I witnessed tears falling from her eyes. As I sat up and cradled her face, a wave of concern washed over me.
"What's wrong?" I asked her, trying to figure out what was occurring.
After a moment's silence, Jackie sat up and wrapped her arms around me before she started speaking to me.
"Luke, I'm so sorry," Jackie whispered.
"Why are you apologizing?" I asked, furrowing my brows in confusion. Had I done something wrong? Did I hurt her? I could hear Lucifer whining as he was hurt that our mate was in pain. "Please tell me, whatever it is, I will make it right," I told her.
Jackie shook her head. "That's just it; you can't make it right," Jackie replied.
"I can try if you let me," I told her, my voice slightly frustrated at the fact that she was doubting me. As I was about to say something else, Jackie spoke a few words that rocked my core.
"Luke, you are an exceptional man, but I am so sorry I can't do this," she said as she quickly rose to her feet and began to dress before rushing out of the room, leaving me in complete disbelief. I had no idea what she was referring to when she said she couldn't do this. The only thing that ran through my mind was perhaps she felt guilty for sleeping with me on the day of her best friend's ceremony.
Sighing, I rose to my feet, dressed, and returned to the reception hall. As I walked toward the entrance, I saw Hector and Daunte talking just outside the reception doors. Placing a smile on my face, I approached them.
"Alpha Daunte, congrats, bro," I told him, patting him on the back.
"Thanks, bro. How are you?" Daunte asked.
"Good. I just came by with Nana. Hey man, great speech," I laughed, patting Hector on the back.
Hector chuckled before asking, "Are you staying for a while?"
"Well, I might have to. It seems I have found my mate here tonight," I said with a slight hint of happiness and sadness lingering in my voice.
"You seem troubled. Is everything alright?" Daunte inquired.
Running my hand through my hair and taking a deep breath, I said, "To be honest, no. Being the Alpha of the Mystic River pack is not something to take lightly. Some she-wolves want to live this life because of its benefits. Others don't want it at all and run from it. I am unsure if she wishes to be mated to me."
"Why do you say that?" Hector asked cocking a brow at me.
"Bro, my mate is an omega," I replied.
Silence fell over us for a moment. "Luke, you are a good man. You will find a way to make it work. If you need anything, you need only ask," Daunte said, extending his hand to me.
"Thanks, bro," I said, taking his hand.
Just then, Alessia walked towards us, followed by Maliyla, Katia, Sara, Dominic, Jonathan, and Daunte's parents. After exchanging a few short goodbyes, we watched Daunte and Alessia ride off on their honeymoon.
"Come on, let's grab a drink," Hector said, patting me on the shoulder. All of a sudden, I felt as if the sudden pain in my chest was tearing my heart apart. A howl escaped my lips as I collapsed to the ground in a heap. In the depths of my mind, I could hear Lucifer's piercing howl echoing as if he was dying.
"Luke! Luke!" Hector called my name.
There was an ebb and flow to everything when I caught sight of Jackie, and all of a sudden, everything seemed to fade away. As tears streamed down her face, she placed a hand across her heart and mouthed the words, "I am sorry!" before turning and running out of sight. At that moment, I knew what had happened.
"Luke, talk to me, man. Are you alright?" Hector asked.
"My mate," I gasped.
"What about her?" Hector asked as he gripped my hand and pulled me to my feet. "What happened?" he asked.
"She rejected the bond," I replied.
"Fuck," Hector whispered, shaking his head.
We stood silently for a moment before I looked up at the moon as if for the first time in my life. As I signed, I closed my eyes and breathed deeply before speaking the words that no Alpha had ever spoken.
"I, Luke Landri, Alpha of the Mystic River Pack, accept your rejection, Jackie D'Angelo, Omega of the Onyx Fang Pack."
***Five Years Later***
In the past five years, I have struggled to make sense of what led Jackie to reject me, and I have never been able to figure it out. After Jackie refused me and ran off, she stopped working for Daunte. It even came to the point where she moved out of the packhouse. Daunte had told me to try to win her over while I stayed at the Onyx Fang Pack while he was on his honeymoon.
However, I never told him who my mate was since I did not want Alessia to find out. After multiple attempts to convince Jackie to give us a chance, she eventually explained to me the reason for her reluctance. However, her explanation came in the form of a letter that she left for Margaret to give to me. It was after that that she disappeared. At that point, I decided it was finally time to return home and deal with the consequences of the recent event.
"Luke, my son, don't you think it's time you started looking for your mate? After all, being the Alpha of the most prominent pack comes with a set of very specific requirements," my father's voice sounded through the speakerphone.
"I am aware of my responsibilities; however, if the goddess intended that I should have a mate, maybe she should have chosen someone who was in close proximity to me," I replied, pausing for a moment before adding, "As far as I know, my mate may belong to an entirely different pack, or, worse still, what if she was killed as a result of that ordeal with Crestview?" I responded in an annoyed manner.
In addition to my father, there were a number of other people who were pushing me to find my mate. It was getting to the point where the entire High Council was asking questions. Furthermore, as if that wasn't enough, it was also worth noting that Lucifer had departed; the fact that I didn't have my wolf was starting to put more pressure on me. If I couldn't shift and someone attacked, the pack would suffer.
"What I would suggest to you is that you should make it a point to visit other packs as soon as possible to get the process moving along. I have never seen an Alpha of the Mystic River pack take this long to find their mate," my father replied.
As I pinched the brim of my nose, I replied, "Father, I will have to call you back."
"Very well. Keep me updated," my father said before ending the call.
In spite of the fact that I did not want to argue with him, I seemed to find myself returning to the subject of my mate throughout every single conversation. This was something that I knew was going to happen all too well, especially after he and my mother left the pack. Following the ceremony of transferring the Alpha title from him to me, my parents decided to travel.
Their travels took them up to Texas where they fell in love, bought a house, and that was the end of their journey. It is something I have never been able to understand. There was only one response they gave me when I asked why Texas.
"We have big skies and wide open spaces," my mother would say, a warm smile gracing her face.
Despite the fact that much as I loved my parents, I couldn't bear to let them see me in the state that I was in at this time. After Jackie's rejection, I felt an immense sense of inadequacy in every sense of the word. How does an Alpha get rejected? That was never heard of, and the most painful part was Jackie refused me not only because she didn't want this lifestyle but because she was in love with someone else. Over the last five years, I have repeatedly replayed her letters' words.
"It has nothing to do with you; I told you before that you are a wonderful man. The issue is you are the Alpha of the most important pack, which oversees all the others, in addition to the fact that, at some point, you will be a member of the high council; it doesn't seem like the easy life that I pictured for myself. One of the hardest parts of all is that I have found someone with whom I want to build a life, and now, because of one single act of indiscretion, I am afraid I may lose him as well. Please accept my sincerest apologies. The last thing I ever intended was for anyone to suffer any kind of harm."
It was now five years later, and every time I recalled her words, it pissed me off even more. As I sat in my office contemplating my next move, Christian, my beta's voice echoed through the mind link.
"Alpha, we have a bit of a problem," Christian said.
"What?" I replied.
"I received a call about a few rogues this morning causing a disturbance near the town," Christian told me.
"See to it, I have a conference call," I said. In the event that rogues were lurking in the area, there was a possibility that I might be forced to shift, which was not feasible for me. I was just about to end the min-link when Christian's last words sent a chill up my spine.
"Luke, these are the rogues we have been tracking for months," Christian said.
"Are you sure?" I asked.
"Yes," Christian replied.
There had been rumors for months that rogues were roaming the town, raiding human stores, and taking everything, which began to raise suspicions. Throughout the years, wolves and humans coexisted, and we avoided shifting close to town. The majority of pack members who lived in town stayed on the edges. This made it easier to keep our existence a secret. However, with rogues running in and out of town, humans became concerned as evidence began to indicate that an animal was involved.
Since I was Alpha, I knew I had no choice but to handle this myself. I stood up from my chair and sighed as I shook my head.
"Bring the car around, gather a few others. If it is the same group, we need to be prepared," I told him, cutting off the mind-link. Closing my laptop, I glanced out the window and stared at the afternoon sky. "Goddess, help me," I said before rushing out of my office and heading out of the packhouse to meet Christian.
As soon as I stepped out of the packhouse, Christian rounded the driveway. I approached the car, opened the door, and asked, "How many this time?" as I slid into the passenger seat.
"The group is small, no more than five members," Christian replied.
I nodded. "Let's go!" I said, closing the car door. As we drove in silence, something inside me began to shift. This was a feeling, unlike anything I had ever experienced before. There was something not right about the situation. Even though I could not place the feeling, I sensed something deep within myself, warning me to be cautious.
It took us about fifteen minutes to arrive at what was believed to be the last known location. As I stepped out of the car, I could smell a slight lingering scent in the air that sent a warm tingle down my spine. As I glanced around the area, out of the corner of my eye, a flash of white caught my attention. It ran at top speed in the direction of the pack border. I felt Lucifer push forward at that exact moment, only to withdraw just as fast.
Turning to Christian, "The border now," I yelled, climbing back into the car. Christian quickly jumped behind the wheel and sped off at top speed before we saw a white wolf.
"Any available warriors, get to the eastern border. A white wolf is heading in that direction," I called through the mid-link.
After a few minutes, the sound of Julius, my gamma's voice, echoed through the mind-link. "Alpha, I have a clear shot," he said.
"Shoot it," I responded.
A mere moment later, a strong howl was heard coming from the wolf, indicating it had been hit by a tranquilizer, which caused the wolf to become agitated. The wolf stumbled around, its body trembling from the effect of the tranquilizer. Christian slowed the car as Julius and the other warriors quickly approached the wolf. Christian promptly stopped the car a mere twenty feet away. As we exited the vehicle, the sweet scent of rosewater and pink sea salt hit me like a freight train, and Lucifer pushed forward.
As I approached the wolf, I shook my head, trying to clear my mind of any confusion. After I drew closer to the wolf, I could sense Lucifer was becoming increasingly agitated. As I walked around the wolf to see its face, a growl escaped me, and with that, the word "MATE" followed. Those words, which I had not spoken for the last five years, sent a wave of shock through everyone.
The thought of believing it was beyond my comprehension. As I knelt beside the white wolf, I felt confused and intrigued at the same time. Five years later, I found myself in a situation where I had a second chance with a mate, but this time, it wasn't an ordinary mate. She was a rogue.
"This can't be right," I whispered to myself as I slowly stood and turned to head back to the car.
"Luke, what about the wolf?" Christian shouted at me.
Stopping in my tracks, I glanced back to look at her. After a moment, I spoke, "Put her in the cells." I told him. I could feel Lucifer fighting for control over my choice of words.
"She is our mate!" he growled.
"Yes, but she is also a rogue," I replied. I knew this would not sit well with the high council. The first thing I was concerned about was making sure that the word did not get out. It was the last thing I wanted was for the council members to find out what was going on without me being able to explain myself. Approaching the car, I heard Christian's voice as he jogged over.
"Luke, talk to me, man. Please tell me that what we just heard was nothing more than a joke," he said with an expression of concern on his face. I knew why. Rogues were known to become feral after living some time away from pack life. In some cases, their state had gotten so far gone that they had to be killed.
After taking a deep breath, I responded, "I wish it were a joke, but what you heard is true. That rogue is my mate."
Christian remained silent for a moment before speaking. " Fuck, man, I am happy for you, but I know this will be a huge issue for you. What are you planning to do?" Christian asked in a serious tone.
Taking my hand and running it through my hair as I sighed, I replied, "At this time, your guess is as good as mine. However, until I figure it out, no one is to know about this."
Christian nodded in agreement as he started the car and drove us back to the packhouse. As we rounded the driveway, Christian asked, "What about your mate?"
As I turned my attention to him, I told him, "She is still a rogue, and we need to be cautious with her, so make sure that you place her in the cells while making sure she is kept as comfortable as possible," before exiting the vehicle and walking into the packhouse.
After walking straight to my office and shutting the door, I began pacing back and forth, trying to make sense of everything that had happened. As I took a seat on the couch, I let out a loud sigh when I heard Lucifer's voice echo in my mind.
"Mate, we need to be with her," Lucifer said.
"Not now," I told him. I needed peace and quiet, time to think and gather my thoughts, but Lucifer wasn't having it. I could feel him trying to take control. The task of keeping him at bay was becoming more and more difficult as time went on. There was no way I could keep her in the cells for too long. Lucifer wouldn't have it. My wolf's howlin drowned out my thoughts as I tried to concentrate on what I was going to say or do next.
"What do you want me to do?" I growled at Lucifer.
"Mate, we need to be with her," Lucifer growled back.
Grunting, I stood up and walked to the door. Just as I exited my office, Christian approached, stopping a few feet in front of me before speaking.
"Look, I know you're the Alpha, but this is not the way you handle things. It would help if you went to talk to her," Christian exclaimed.
"No shit, that's exactly where I'm heading," I responded, pushing past him.
"Forgive me, but I only meant to caution you as your Beta; it's my job to do so, "Christian said, following close behind.
I remained silent for a few minutes. "Christian, if this gets out, Mystic River Pack is..." My words trailed. There was no doubt in my mind that if anyone found out, there was a chance that I would be stripped of my Alpha title or, more importantly, she would be exiled, but the fact of the matter was that this wouldn't be able to remain a secret forever.
"I already spoke with everyone. They know they are not to repeat what they heard back there," Christian reassured me as we walked out of the packhouse and to the cells.
As my right hand, Christian was an integral part of my team. As a matter of fact, I had known him for the entirety of my life. In addition to his father being one of the most elite warriors we have ever had, his mom was the first Beta female ever. Christian was six years old at the time of the attack by the Rogues. There were many lives lost in that battle, including the lives of his parents. Taking Christian in and raising him was my father's decision. Christian was with me through everything. After Jackie rejected me, he dropped everything to help me win her back.
"Thank you," I told him as we approached the cell. Christian patted me on the back before opening the gate, and we stepped inside. One of the things I could never get used to about the cells was the smell. The stench of sweat, fear, and hopelessness was nauseating. Christian gave me a look of understanding as if sensing my discomfort.
"This way," he said as he led me further inside and down the long corridor. We reached the end of the hall, and he opened the door. He stepped inside and waited for me to enter. I took a deep breath and followed him in. It took a moment for my eyes to adjust to the light, but the moment my eyes adjusted, I saw her.
Her long blonde hair cascaded down her back, and her blue eyes stared at me with a mixture of fear and hatred. I watched as she crossed her arms in front of her, and she stood there. There was something about her beauty that captivated me. As I cleared my throat, I stepped toward her but stopped as soon as she stepped back.
With my hands raised in front of me, I said, "I won't hurt you. My name is Luke Alpha of the Mystic River Pack. What's your name?"
A blank expression appeared on her face as she tilted her head and stared at me. She opened her mouth slightly as if she was going to speak, but no words came out. After a moment of silence, she slowly backed away.
"Are you hungry?" I asked, hoping that food would entice her to speak. However, she remained silent. Sighing, I turned my attention to Christian. "Please bring her something to eat and a pair of sweats and sweaters," I told him, returning my attention to her. As soon as Christian left the room, I walked toward the table in the center of the room, pulled out the chair, and sat down.
"A bit of help here," I said to Lucifer, who had remained silent throughout the whole ordeal.
"There's something wrong with her," he whimpered.
"Well, that's perfect. Any idea how I'm supposed to get her to talk to me?" I asked him, but he did not answer.
As I stood up from the chair, I yelled, "FUCK!".
My ears were suddenly graced by the sound of a sweet voice. "Let me go!" she said.
Turning to face her, I smiled. "You can talk?" I said sarcastically.
"Let me guess because I am a rogue, you automatically assume that I can't put two words together. That's really fucked up, especially for a mateless Alpha," she laughed.
I cocked my brow in surprise as I looked at her. How in the hell does she know that I do not have a mate? I thought to myself.
"If you're wondering how I know, it's because you have a wolf that will not shut up. He tells mine everything. It's rather pathetic, honestly. Oh, and if you think because you and I are mates that I'm just going to worship you, you have another thing coming," she said, her voice filled with confidence.
I chuckled lightly, "Alright, so you acknowledge we are mates. Can you please tell me your name, or should I just call you rogue?"
"Why does it matter what my name is? You're like the rest. You don't care. All you care about is killing my kind or enslaving them," she replied.
I stared at her momentarily, considering what to say next, when Christian walked in with a plate of food and some clothes. We remained silent as Christian placed everything on the table before exiting the cell again. I stared at her for a moment longer before stepping toward the table and sitting down again.
"Please," I said, gesturing to the empty chair.
She stood there momentarily before finally giving in and sitting across from me. I smiled at her before I said, "Your name, please."
"My name is Cassandra," she clarified after a while.
