"This is going to lead to a war. It'd be good if he stops this now," Selene muttered as she looked down on the world before her. Everything played out right before her eyes just like a movie.
This was her abode, and this was what she does daily; looking down at the wolves, protecting them, answering their prayers, and giving them mates.
Presently, she was watching two Alphas arguing over the sharing of boundaries. One was seemingly more aggressive than the other, and she knew a war won't be far off if he continued that way.
She smiled when she saw how calm and collected the second one was.
"The moon goddess would bear me witness that sharing boundaries won't be good for both of us!" The calm Alpha muttered and she nodded.
"Yes, it wouldn't." She smiled.
She always knew that the hearts of Alphas were as dark as night. They had enough, but they wanted more and more. She would have wiped them from existence, but how could she destroy the people she was meant to guard and answer their prayers?
She frowned when the aggressive Alpha threatened to return and wage war if the other Alpha did not consent to it. He left and she quickly stood up.
"Where are you off to, goddess?" Marlene, her assistant, asked.
"I want to teach a certain someone how to be content with what he has." With that said, she disappeared.
She appeared behind the Alpha, but he couldn't see her.
"How dare he? What's even good about the borders that he can't share?" He fumed.
"If nothing is good about the border, why do you want it so badly? Afterall, it's not yours," She said, and the man looked around to see where the voice was coming from.
"Who are you? Show yourself!" He ordered.
"Forget about that and let's talk about how selfish you are. Let that border be. Your pack already has vast landscapes, which you pleaded, and I gave to you. If you keep acting this way, I might be forced to take everything you have away, then make you see how much of a loser you are without them. Maybe then, you would realize your mistake and change!" She snapped and he flinched.
He looked around. He couldn't figure out where the voice came from. It seemed to be coming from all directions.
"Stop being a coward and show yourself!" He snapped, trying to hide the fear in his voice.
Selene scoffed and lightning struck, making the man take to his heels.
"That'll teach you," She dusted her hand and reappeared in the realm.
Marlene walked forward and bowed to her. "Is there anything you need?" She asked.
"None for now. You may leave," She ordered, and Marlene walked away.
She sat down on the floor and crossed her legs, then closed her eyes. Everywhere suddenly became quiet, and she could hear how her name was being called in different places by different people.
She loved the gift she was given and knew being the moon goddess was a blessing to her. Right from childhood, she had this zeal to help people whenever they were distressed or when they weren't strong enough to help themselves. She derived joy in seeing people smile. They were gods, but they visited earth occasionally to assist mortals.
Her mother always told her that she was special and perfect without flaws. And when the day came for them to find out the power she wielded, the moon chose her and assigned her to the werewolves. The moon was bound to her and she became the moon goddess.
Being selected as the moon goddess was a rare gift, and she was happy to be the chosen one because now, she was able to help countless people without even lifting a finger.
She could give people their soulmates, answer their prayers and help them fight battles, but there are times when the moon would stop her from helping some people, not because they didn't deserve it but because it was their fate. She could change it if she wanted to, but there were certain things that should be left the way they were.
After her meditation, she stood up and grabbed her Scepter. She walked up to the magic board, and her ears picked up something, it was the sound of music.
Marlene walked up to her. "Moon goddess, there is a mating ceremony taking place in Ocean Pack right now. There are a total number of 5 teenagers, who are hoping to find their mates." She reported.
"Marlene," She called, and the lady bowed.
"At your service, goddess." She smiled.
"Two out of those 5 teenagers won't be getting their mates tonight," She said. Before Marlene could ask why, she continued. "Two of them are wolfless," She said, and the pictures of the teenagers on the ceremonial seats appeared on the magic board.
Marlene looked at it. "Is it that they're humans?" She asked, but Selene shook her head.
"They aren't humans. They won't get their mates now. There is something they need to do first. I see a future for them both," She smiled, tracing her hand on the board.
"Future? Like, they're mates?" Marlene asked.
"Yes, but they won't find out until they unlock their wolves. They will only feel attracted to each other." She explained.
Marlene nodded.
The moon goddess placed her palm on the board and it glowed. When she withdrew her hand, Marlene smiled when she saw how the teenagers got their wolves. The two the moon goddess had talked about tried to get theirs, but nothing happened. Marlene sighed. She imagined how devastated they'd become.
Selene sighed and turned to leave, but stopped in her tracks when a scent hit her nostrils immediately. She sniffed the air and looked around, clenching tight to her Scepter.
"Marlene," She called.
"I see it too, moon goddess." Marlene looked around.
"Blood," She muttered and an ear-piercing dream shot through her ears.
"Moon goddess, help me!"
2.
"Help me, please. For the sake of my unborn child!" The woman cried out.
Selene looked down and saw that it was a war going on. She saw a pregnant woman, lying beside a dead wolf, holding him tight while their enemies were approaching her.
"That's Queen Bathsheba, Luna of the Golden Sword Pack. The wolf down there is her husband. They just got attacked by a neighboring pack and lost to them," Marlene narrated.
"Golden Sword Pack is a strong pack. I made sure they had the best set of warriors, the largest lands and vegetation because the Alpha was a good person. I've watched his good deeds right from when he was a child." She said.
"It was an..." Marlene trailed off.
"Insider," She completed it and looked down at the woman, who was holding her pregnancy and husband, while shedding tears.
"Moon goddess, please save my child. Just this once, please! He's my first." She kept on crying.
The moon goddess was touched.
According to the rules, she only had the chance to save one person. Either the woman or bring back her dead husband to life. She wished she could save the two of them.
"If I bring the Alpha back to life, he still wouldn't be strong enough to fight his enemies. They're very large and majority of his men are already dead. They would get killed anyway." She sighed.
"She said it's her first," Marlene said.
"Yes, and that's why we need to save her. If she delivers the boy, he would take after his father and continue the lineage," She said and looked down at the woman, who now had her hands clasped together while praying silently.
She frowned when one of the men grabbed her. He tried to stab the Luna, but she stretched forth her hand and the sword turned, stabbing him instead. His eyes widened.
Queen Bathsheba stood up and took to her heels immediately. The remaining ones followed her. Selene smirked and blew a smoke down, confusing the men, who started fighting themselves.
She made sure they killed themselves until there was no one remaining. She stared at the blood on the floor and her heart ached for those that lost their lives.
"Her son will hunt down that insider that dared to betray his pack when the time comes. I would have ended him by myself, but I wouldn't be proud that way," She clenched her fist tightly.
This was the second war she witnessed that day, and she knew more was coming. She had tried her best, by creating different channels where wolves can cooperate and live together in harmony, instead of trying to bring each other down due to their greed and quest for more power. It annoyed her to the core, and sometimes she wished she could just go down there and set them straight physically.
She wanted the wolves to live in peace. The kind of world she wanted for them all was the type that they would be together in one place as one and would have only a supreme ruler, who would be ready to see their affairs until the end, but the wolves, due to their selfish and animalistic nature, separated themselves into packs.
And the worst part of it all was that when one pack flourished more than the other, it led to jealousy, envy, and hatred which resulted in their desire to pull each other down to the very least. They wanted the top and would stop at nothing to get it.
"Werewolves,"
She sighed and sat down. She didn't understand why, but her thoughts were clouded by that pregnant woman. Something about the woman seemed to pull her in, and she couldn't figure it out. It was like there was something in the woman, calling out to her, but what was it?
She was a supreme being, who could figure out things with just a snap of her fingers, but why was this one being difficult for her?
She watched as Queen Bathsheba came out of her hiding spot after everything was over. She had witnessed how the men turned against themselves and knew it was the moon goddess' doing.
She went on her knees. "Thank you, moon goddess."
Selene smiled as she watched the woman. She sighed when she saw Queen Bathsheba beside her husband's corpse. She stayed there and cried until the people came and took her away.
Selene couldn't understand why it hurt her so much. What was going on with her?
It was just like a few minutes in the realm, but it was already 2 months later in the land of the mortals. She had given the queen the strength to get over the death of her mate, and also aided in returning the pack to its former glory.
"Her baby is coming," Selene stood up with a smile. It wasn't clear to her why she felt jittery, just at the thought that Queen Bathsheba would be giving birth to her son that day.
And just as she said, the woman went into labor. She watched how the midwives quickly rushed her to the labor room, asking her to push and all that.
Selene appeared behind the door, listening to Queen Bathsheba's screams. Her screams stopped abruptly and the next thing she heard was the cry of a baby. It warmed her heart so much that she didn't know when she appeared in the room.
The baby was cleaned up and given to his mother while she stared at him admirably.
"He is gorgeous," She bent to look into his eyes.
The queen and midwives couldn't see her, but the baby's eyes opened, and bored into hers.
Her heart fluttered just by that eye contact. "You're going to be a great and wonderful Alpha; even greater than your father, baby. I already know the name you'd be given. It'll reflect a lot in your life," She smiled and held the baby's hand.
Suddenly, she felt something leaving her body.
A golden light came out of her body and entered that of the child. She couldn't see it, but she only felt something leave her body.
She quickly withdrew her hands from the baby and looked at him. He closed his eyes, and she disappeared, appearing back in the realm.
"What's this sudden feeling of emptiness?" She asked herself and looked at her hand again.
She untied her golden hair, which she had packed into a ponytail and allowed it to cascade down her back.
She looked into the mirror, glancing at the moon sign on her forehead. It had faded, it was no longer golden like it used to.
She gasped and touched it.
"Oh no!"
3.
"Goddess, what happened?" Marlene asked the moment she heard Selene's voice.
Selene turned and Marlene gasped. The moon symbol was no longer glowing.
"Y... Y... Your moon symbol!" She exclaimed, moving closer to her.
"I don't know what's going on," Selene muttered and quickly sat down. She tried to listen and see if she could hear the voices like she normally does. She could still hear the voices, and she sighed in relief, but when she wanted to give mates, she realized that she couldn't find the perfect match anymore.
She gasped again. "This can't be happening. What happened to me?" She panicked.
"But you were fine before you went down to the land of mortals." Marlene said.
"Yes, the land of mortals," Her thoughts drifted to when she touched the baby and felt something leave her body. "Could it be?" She asked herself, but she shook her head immediately. "No, it can't be. He's just a baby."
Marlene furrowed her brows. She was confused as she didn't know what the moon goddess was talking about.
Selene was restless. How on Earth did she lose her powers? This wasn't good. If the council of gods heard this, they would scold her for sure. She was a supreme being, but that didn't mean she had no superiors. She still had people she looked up to, and those were gods that had existed even before she was born.
They weren't going to be happy with what just happened.
She disappeared and appeared to look at the boy. He was fast asleep in his crib. Just the mere sight of him warmed her heart and made her forget what she was there for in the first place. She had this natural love for babies, but it was different with this one.
Something about him made her heart stir in ways she couldn't fathom. When Queen Bathsheba entered, she snapped out of her thoughts and checked if there was any moon symbol on his head.
"There's nothing here, but what happened to me?" She asked herself.
If the child had been born with any special gift, she would have known, but he was just an ordinary wolf. She paced around the room, thinking of what was probably wrong. He awoke and she looked down at him.
His gray eyes bored into hers one more time, making her heart skip.
"What is wrong with me?" She pulled her hair.
Could her powers have gone to the baby? If so, he should have seen the moon sign on his forehead. She gazed at his olive colored skin, her attention on his forehead, but there was nothing there.
She wanted to touch him but withdrew her hand. What if her powers were truly in him?
"Dominic is your name, son. You look a lot like your father. He was a brave man; the best thing that has ever happened to this pack and the best Alpha in all Werewolf history," Queen Bathsheba said as she breastfed the baby. "You know what, I'm deeply grateful to the moon goddess for saving me that day. I know she saved me because of you. I can't thank her enough. She gave you the opportunity to continue your father's lineage, and I'm certain that you're going to break your father's record and make this pack whole again." She massaged his forehead.
Selene found her words heartwarming. She had received praises from different people before this one. People have eulogized her for the numerous things she had done for them, but she was moved by Queen Bathsheba's praises. Never in her existence had she experienced such a thing before and it kind of felt alien to her... but in a good way.
"There is something about this baby. There is definitely something suspicious and strange," She said.
His eyes glowed a bright shade of yellow and she gasped. It was indeed true. Her powers were in the baby, but how? How did it happen? She only touched him. She didn't command her powers to get to him.
With a sigh, she disappeared and appeared back in the realm.
"Moon goddess, were you able to find it?" Marlene asked.
"My powers got transferred to the baby," She mumbled, but Marlene heard her loud and clear. She wasn't supernatural for nothing.
"Oh no! Were you able to get it back?" Marlene asked.
"I wanted to touch him like I did before, but I couldn't. I didn't know if it would come back to me or if others would go to him. He's just a child. He can't give people mates. I've never been this confused in my life!" She snapped and the realm shook.
Marlene rushed to her immediately. "Calm down, please. You can figure this out. You're the moon goddess. Nothing is impossible for you to do." Marlene cooed.
The moon goddess' anger wasn't a good one. And that was why werewolves feared her wrath. Marlene knew this and tried her best to keep her calm.
Selene paced around. "This one looks quite impossible. I've tried to listen, but I can't seem to get anything. All I keep hearing is people that need my help. I want answers but one minute, it looks like I'm about to grab it, and the next, it is gone." She sighed and facepalmed.
"I believe in you. We all do. You will find a way out." Marlene comforted her.
After pacing around for a while, she sat down and tried to meditate again. She was supposed to be perfect and without flaws. She was supposed to be all knowing and little things like this shouldn't be this difficult for her, but why was the case with this baby different? Why was a little child making her so worried and anxious; something she hadn't felt before in her history of existence?
"Who are you, little baby?" She asked, massaging her temple.
A cold chill ran throughout the whole place, and she quickly stood up.
"Moon goddess..." Marlene trailed off.
"I know. They're here," She sighed and took her Scepter. She exhaled, raised her head up high and walked to the meeting room.
When she opened the door, she was stunned by the furious faces in the room.
Their eyes darted to the faded symbol on her forehead.
"What have you done?"
