Chapter 1 A Night Of Fate & Shackles

Haylina POV

I slammed my head on the door and muttered curses underneath my breath. My eyes were blurry but my mind was sharp.

I need to get out of here, I keep reminding myself.

I summoned all the courage and got up from the floor and pulled the door open, making my way out of the room.

I walked through the hallway, silently and praying no one should be awake to notice my movement.

When I finally made it to the gate, several light beams in my direction and the siren went off. I forcefully I settled the key into the padlock that had been used on the gate and managed to get out of the door.

"Stop where you are!" I heard the voice of some men and increased my pace, not wanting any of them to catch up with me.

I turned down the left side of the road, hoping to have managed to get them off my scent, but I was wrong.

Strong arms grabbed me and when I turned to look up, I was staring at him with the evil smile on his face.

"Where do you think you are going huh? I have not even started with you."

"Let me go please." I begged, but his grip on my arm remained strong.

"Let her go or I will knock your teeth down your throat." We both turned around and a huge man stood across the shadows, staring in our direction.

"And who are you to tell me what to do with my subject?" From behind my attacker, his men walked forward to join him. "You should be more concerned about your safety."

We heard a large growl and within seconds, his men were wiped out. He let go of me as they fought each other intensely.

Although my vision could be blurry, there was something about the man saving my life that was appealing, but could not place a name to it..

I gasped as he snapped the neck of my abductor and threw him to the side.

The moon light chose to let its rays out in that moment and I realized I was standing in the presence of Alpha Rasmus, the leader of Autumns Pack.

He stepped forward and held my hand, and a jolt of electricity was created and in that moment we both knew destiny had taken place.

I felt weak as the drug they had given to me, took further effect and dropped into his arms feeling calm in his scent.

I was in the arms of my mate.

He held my chin and raised my eyes to look at him and captured my lips in a thrilling kiss. I responded as well, my hands moving up to his hair.

All I wanted was to be lost in his arms at that moment and although my thoughts had slowly drifted away, I was relaxed in his arms.

My eyes flung open and I realized I was in a room. I turned to the other side of the bed and found Alpha by my side, sleeping peacefully.

As the dawn begins to slowly come up, I could see the beautiful features in his face. I reached out to touch him, but realized quickly things would never go well with the both of us.

I looked down at the sheets and memories of what transpired last night began to play on my head. After we left the bloody scene, he had carried me in his car to this place. I remembered not letting him go after he wanted to leave.

I mentally smacked myself seeing that I could not control my urge. I could not imagine what would happen if my father finds out about this.

I made my way out of the bed and quickly changed into my clothes; I did not want him to see my face and although it hurts not to be in the arms of my one and only true mate, I cannot risk my life going for it.

When I arrived at my apartment, I stepped into the living room and froze, seeing my father and my future husband Jason seated in the living room.

"And where are you coming from?" He asked, the moment I tried to walk past them.

"Went out with a friend." I said anxiously and slowly moved my eyes away from both of them, due to my anxiety.

"I can clearly see you had a good time." Jason added sarcastically.

My father rose from his seat and in split seconds he slammed me to the wall, grabbing my neck and staring deep into my eye.

"I warned you what would happen if you dare try to disobey me. How dare you go out for a party without informing me?"

I tried pulling his hands away from my neck, but he was so strong and noticeable his wolf was speaking and no longer him.

"Father please, you are killing me..." I managed to speak.

"It's alright Mr. Hunter, I don't want to have a dead woman as a wife." Jason's voice seemed to have been the only thing to calm him down.

As soon as he let go of his hands, he walked out of the living room.

I covered my face and cried, realizing the humiliation I was being subjected to in the hands of this monster.

"Your father is a good man and I would suggest you learn to obey him. I cannot see you facing these problems all the time. Everything he is doing is for your sake and I hope that you find out very soon."

I looked up at Jason and all I felt was anger in that moment.

It was because of him that I am being treated like a slave. My father maybe greedy, but his greed started because Jason came into our lives.

"My entire council will be at the wedding tomorrow. I suggest you don't mess this wedding up." He warned, before moving away.

I stared at the door that he had closed behind, with the knowing look that my life was about to become more miserable in the coming days.

Chapter 2 Claiming What's Mine

Rasmus POV

I growled in frustration realizing I had allowed my mate to slip away from my hand.

How could she had been thinking about leaving her mate behind? I barely even know anything about her.

I slammed my hand at the walls out of frustration; I must find her whatever it takes.

My phone begins to ring and I check to see it was from my step brother.

What does he want?

"Rasmus." He was the only one that had the nerve to call his Alpha by his name, and I had tolerated it for too long.

"What do you want?" I asked.

"Calm down brother. You have to understand that whenever I call you like this, there is a serious situation at hand." He said through the phone.

"What is it then?"

"I am getting married tomorrow and I certainly hope you are going to make it to the wedding." He revealed.

"Jason, you already know that I am the Alpha of the pack. I am certainly going to be at your wedding. Now if you will excuse me, I have a lot on my hand at the moment." I revealed and before he would say another word, I hung up the phone.

I grabbed my shirt from the bed, when my eye landed on a pendant .

I picked it up and realized it belongs to my mate and hope was resurrected inside of me because I knew that I would find her again.

I got out of the hotel and drove over to my favorite pack record keeper. I was certain I could find a family lineage, who owns the pendant.

When I arrived at his house, I headed into his living room and found him sitting and watching a movie.

"Great to see you in my house Alpha." I threw the pendant in his direction and he caught it impressively.

"Can you tell where this came from in my pack?" I asked, while I watched him observe the pendant with keen interest.

"It seems my Alpha must have come into contact with Mr. Hunter. I remember him coming to me and asking about making a pendant for his daughter's birthday."

So she is from the Hunter's family? It was the necessary information that I needed

He handed the pendant over to me and I thanked him before heading out of his house.

I stepped into my car and checked for Mr. Hunter's house through my exclusive GPS. It showed two ideal locations, but I was more familiar with a single apartment that lived merely across the pack mansion.

After hours of driving, I finally arrived at the location and I could not contain my excitement, as I walked to the door.

I knocked gently and after a few seconds, the door opened and she froze the moment she laid eyes on me.

"How did you find me?" She asked, looking away from me to everything happening behind me.

"I am the Alpha of Autumn's Pack, I should ideally know the house of my pack member." I said with a shrug and pulled out a pendant for her.

"Here you forgot this." I said handing over the pendant to her.

I drew her closer to myself and I got lost in her eyes for a split second, before we would break away.

"You cannot be here."

"Why do you keep chasing me away?" I asked her feeling slight pain inside at her resistance.

"We cannot be together, Alpha. I know that you are my mate, but you need to understand that I am engaged and I would love to honor my marriage." I explained to him.

"Don't you understand what I am saying? We are mates. You cannot be married to another man and even if you are married to them, you cannot honor such a marriage because you are mine."

She clasped her hands together and I noticed the pain in her eyes.

"Please you have to understand what I am saying Alpha. I acknowledge the fact that you are my mate, but I cannot be married to you."

Before I could say anything further, she slammed the door behind me.

How could she be seeing another man?

Most especially, who dares to challenge me for the custody of my mate?

As I turned to leave, I took a mental note to keep an eye on her. I knew it's matter of time I was going to find her fiance.

I arrived at the pack mansion and Jason was outside the premises, speaking to my Beta. I rolled my eyes as I got out of the car, knowing that he was about to bring himself as a nuisance before me.

"And who dares get my Alpha angry?" He asked with a smile on his face.

"What do you want Jason? I already told you I would be coming for your wedding. What other consolation do I have to give to assure you of that?" I asked.

"Alpha, Jason is here to discuss other issues with you. He was just enlightening me on the subject of discussion that he was going to bring before you." Damon, my Beta explained.

"Very well then, I am all ears.".

"As your step brother, don't you think I deserve some sort of recognition? I belong to the household of royalty and tomorrow on my wedding, I want everyone to see me like that." He explained.

"Jason, I don't understand what you are saying. Go straight to the point brother." I responded.

"I want half the pack soldiers at the entrance. I want people to understand the seriousness of this wedding."

"That will not be possible." I dismissed.

"I have never asked you for any favour. Allow me this one single time and now you refuse. It is clear that you hate me and it is disgusting to know." He said and spat on the floor before leaving.

While I watched him leave, Damon walked over to my side.

"I think you should have granted him the request Alpha."

"You don't know my step brother more than I do Damon. Jason is a loud mouthed human who could even boast to everyone that he is Alpha. I am not giving him that chance."

Chapter 3 Let Her Go

Haylina POV

"Now I want you to listen very closely to what I am about to say," my father revealed the moment we stopped at the venue of the hall. "Now I know we don't usually get along most especially because of this marriage, but I want you to know that I love you and I wish that this marriage becomes a thing of beauty. I want to see my grandchildren and hold their hands together."

"That is what it has always been for you father." I lashed out and cut him short in his words. "I have never seen anyone as selfish and greedy as you. I cannot believe you will put your daughter on the line because you want to see your seed inherit the throne."

He almost attempted to hit my face, but I shielded him.

"You should be lucky today is your wedding. Any other day and I would have broken your jaw." He said. "I want you to go in there, act like the bride you are supposed to be and leave with your husband afterwards. Do I make myself clear?"

I nod my head in pain as I realized that this was bound to be my reality as it stands. I was never going to have the freedom that everyone has.

I could not even be with my mate for fear of what my father could do to me.

I stepped out of the car, after my father and we both walked into the huge event hall, where several people from the pack were gathered.

Alot of these people barely knew who I am, but have all gathered just to witness a wedding that I was forced to be involved in.

As I approached the podium I could see the smile on the face of Jason. I had to point out the fact that he had a cringe looking face.

"Now that the bride is here before us, the wedding may now proceed." The Pack seer announced and there was silence.

"On this day, the great families join together in harmony to bring forth their children to be consummated into marriage." The seer spoke out loud. "Can the groom bring forth the one, who stands in his place as a father?"

I noticed there was a slight look of worry on Jason's face as he looked into the crowd.

Suddenly the door opened and two soldiers stepped inside the hall and my mouth became wide open, seeing Alpha Rasmus step into the hall.

What is he looking for here?

"There he is," Jason said with a smile. "My very own brother and Alpha of Autumns Pack."

How could this be?

As if my life could not get any worse, I was now in a dilemma between brothers.

"Very good then, would the bride's father step up?" I paid no attention to anything happening at the podium, my attention was on Rasmus, who had taken his seat at the front row.

He looked surprised to see me, as soon as his gaze landed on the altar.

"Miss Haylina Hunter, do you take Jason Nicholas as your husband, threading the parts of the laws set by the moon goddess and always respecting his decision?"

I hesitated and my arms hurt from a little shove from my father. He had concealed his anger with a smile.

"I do."

"Very well then, this union is blessed by the moon goddess and you are both pronounced as one." There was a cheer amongst the pack members.

*

After the wedding was over I was too anxious and did not want any confrontation from the Alpha.

I rushed to the restroom and closed the door behind, walking towards the mirror and staring at my reflection.

My face said everything I needed to know; I was already drained from this marriage arrangement and it was such a disgrace knowing that I cannot be with my mate.

I washed off any form of tears that was threatening to fall down and clean my face, before stepping out of the restroom.

I was almost outside, when strong arms pulled me into one of the restrooms. I slammed my head into a wall... That was how I felt it looked, but looked up and realized I was standing next to Alpha Rasmus.

"You are getting married to my brother huh?"

"Listen, I know I should have told you everything that day, but I was too scared. I am sorry if I am letting you down. The marriage is already finished and there is nothing you can do about it."

His hands made its way to my hair and he gently stroked every strand, adoring the colour, before looking at me. He held my chin carefully and leaned in to kiss me, but I stopped him.

"Don't you understand what I am trying to say?" I asked, getting fed up with his actions.

"I cannot believe my own mate would choose another man over me. I stand as the Alpha of the Autumn Pack. Do you think if you had told me you would be getting married to Jason, I would not have stopped the wedding?" He asked.

"The deed is in the past now, I am already married and I hope you deal with it." I turned to leave, but he held the door.

"Do you really want to be with Jason? Clearly you don't know anything about him."

"I don't care, he has already done his dues and my father approves of him, so I would be fine."

I was totally wrong....

The whole marriage agreement was a shame that I never wanted to be a part of, but my father was a dangerous man and I feared for my life.

"I hope you don't come back regretting what you have just said because if there is one thing I can assure you, it is the fact that Jason will never be half the man I am."

He let go of his hands on the door and allowed me to leave the restroom.
