Eveline Amber finds herself in dire straits after she accepts a fake marriage contract with Nolan Wellington. With just a bank check promised by her high school friend Nolan, Eve agrees, thinking that the money from this job will be enough to bail out her father who is in prison. Unfortunately, it's not as simple as that. Eve gets involved in a scandal with Danny-Nolan's philandering brother-and meets Lizette, who both want to seize the Wellington family's sacred will. As an aristocratic family of the '70s, the family's complicated conflicts leave Eve trapped in a choice that is not favorable at all. Especially when Nolan's father finds out that Eveline's mother is a former stripper with whom he had an affair. This problem is compounded by the fact that Nolan was tricked into paying off his father's debts through the will. Both Nolan and Eve's lives are in big trouble. Especially when Nolan starts to secretly fall in love with Eve.

Chapter 1 Cold, Heartless Man

"Eve, come here. Help me for a moment!"

Eve, who had just delivered two large plates of steak with two drinks in a tall glass, hurriedly arrived in front of the serving table. Bella, one of the waitresses at this five-star restaurant, was standing in front of the counter waiting for Eve to receive the order book. Actually, these days you can order digitally, but who knows where people still expect their orders to be made using paper like this.

"I still have to deliver one more order for table number 12." Eve pointed bitterly at a tray containing three plates of food.

"Oh, no problem. Let me take that for you. But you help me for taking orders in the executive room."

Eve's brow furrowed. "Why should I?" Is it because Eve is new here that Bella just randomly switches jobs? Actually, it is not difficult to receive orders, but executive customers should be served with the best service. Eve only took orders once or twice, the rest of the time she only delivered food to regular customers.

"Because you're the only one I can rely on now. Don't ask too many questions, come up quickly."

Bella forcibly handed over the order book to Eve. Eve resignedly accepted it while watching Bella skillfully carry two trays with each hand. The restaurant tonight is really busy. The tables were almost full and everyone was ordering the new menu which seemed to be a trend for the next week. This is Ann's Bali restaurant. One of the famous restaurants with a menu of Balinese and East Asian specialties stands neatly in the middle of Central Park.

"Don't keep complaining. Smile at the customer. Otherwise, you'll only make things worse!" Bella then went to the restaurant entering the rows of tables and chairs with luxurious tablecloths where the customers sat waiting for their food. Eve snatched a little. Actually, it's not because she doesn't want to serve someone in the executive room, but she's always nervous when dealing with important people there. Eve's biggest fear is that she makes a mistake and gets fired. Her boss is not aware of small things, so Eve has to be extra careful.

She took the order book and then went up to the mezzanine floor where the closed executive suite was in a row of closed hallways. Eve had time to check her appearance first and make sure that she could give her best smile. There are many executive rooms, but the customer is in the first room. Eve easily found two men in black suits standing firmly in front of the door as if they were guarding someone.

"Excuse me, I would like to take a customer's order." Eve peeked at the two men's sharp gazes. Eve didn't prepare anything before she was suddenly searched. Eve's shoulders were turned back, and the man's hands reached into her pockets and waist and under Eve's skirt. Eve almost screamed because the man's hand almost touched her sensitive area.

"She's safe," said one of the men. Eve was just about to protest, but she had to remember that as a waitress, a smile and patience are the keys to serving customers well. So she just sighed and hugged the menu book steadfastly.

"Five minutes, come out soon after."

"The boss can't be bothered for long."

The two men answered in unison, slightly pushing Eve into the executive room which was not too big but quite spacious. Eve cursed in her heart but immediately smiled when she saw a man sitting with one leg propped over the other. His cold eyes fell on the cell phone in his hand. The man looked away and looked at Eve with a cold expression.

Eve's heart suddenly sank. She felt all her blood stop and the world spin in slow motion.

"No-Nolan?"

The man pursed his lips. He put his cell phone in his pocket, not taking his eyes off Eve.

"Which waiter doesn't have the etiquette of referring to his esteemed customers by their first names?"

Eve froze. She immediately realized and immediately lowered her head.

"Mr. Wellington," Eve confirmed the call and handed him the menu in a confused manner. This is a bad meeting. This wasn't something Eve expected tonight. Why did she meet Nolan Wellington here? And since when is Nolan Wellington a loyal executive customer of this restaurant? Eve cursed herself as she stood waiting next to the man.

"Do I need to give you a few more lessons about being a good servant?" Nolan said while turning over the menu booklet. Eve didn't understand, so she kept quiet. As soon as Eve didn't show what Nolan wanted, the man glanced at her with the sharp tail of his eye.

"Did you hear me?"

Eve was confused. "Y-yes, sir."

"You don't know the maid etiquette that I mentioned before?"

Eve was confused. She didn't know there was any other etiquette for waiters other than waiting patiently, serving with a smile, and calling customers by their last names. What else does this annoying guy mean?

"Kneel."

The words came out smoothly, almost making Eve think she had heard wrong.

"What?" Eve wanted to be sure. But Nolan glanced at her more indifferently.

"I've never seen someone taller than me when talking. So, make yourself as humble as possible to talk to me."

Eve's mouth dropped open. If this wasn't Nolan Wellington, she probably would have punched this guy straight in the face. But he's Nolan Wellington! The man who once made her high school days so full of bullying and until now, her mind can't escape those shadows. Also, Eve is currently a waitress at a restaurant. She must obey any strange orders from executive customers.

So reluctantly, Eve knelt down next to Nolan and didn't stop swearing in her heart.

"Good. This way you understand who you are talking to."

Eve's mouth twitched. She hated hearing that. She was so hated that she unconsciously clenched her hands on her knees. Why has almost ten years passed but Eve still continues to receive treatment like this from the same person? Why can't Eve break through the changes in these ten years?

"I don't think I had dinner. Can you bring me some Rothschild wine, please?" Nolan closed the book and then put it on the edge of the table for Eve to take.

"You made me kneel and be touched by those muscular men just to get you a bottle of wine?" Eve was unknowingly influenced by the emotions she had been holding back. She looked up, looking at Nolan who was now turning his head and looking at her coldly.

"Do you mind?"

"At least order one of the most expensive dishes here! I don't care about your current background but listen-" Eve stood up, she pointed at Nolan angrily. It felt like something strange was attacking her logic until she dared to do this.

"I will no longer be bullied by you. This was ten years ago, Nolan. It's enough that you've taken everything I have. There are much better executive guests than immorality like you!"

Eve turned around and grabbed the menu without Nolan responding. But her steps immediately stopped when the man said, "Moral?"

"You're just a servant, what do you know about morals?" Eve turned her head slowly, looking at Nolan who wasn't looking at her at all but could feel the scornful tone penetrating her ears.

"Moreover, you are just a lowly woman, born from a bitch. Do you still have a face? After the disgusting things your mother did with my father?"

Chapter 2 A Marriage Contract

Eve's eyes suddenly stung with heat. Her body burned with anger and rejection at what Nolan had just said.

"Now who is more immoral?"

Eve wanted to scratch Nolan's cold perfectly sculpted face. Even though his eyes were beautiful, framed by long eyelashes and a tall nose like a statue of a Greek god, the words were too sharp for Eve to ignore. But then again, Eve couldn't say it now. She still needs this job. She still needs money to bail out her father in prison.

Nolan stood up, he faced Eve and looked at her with a slight bow.

"I told you that I don't like seeing the person I'm talking to as higher than me. I think I can judge this restaurant to no longer be a five-star because of the treatment of a rotten waiter like you."

Nolan almost took a step, but Eve realized that if Nolan walked away from this restaurant, there would definitely be a report of complaints that would follow. In the name of Eveline Amber as a waitress who had to be fired because of her attitude of not serving customers well-then Eve had to prevent that first.

"Stop." Eve blocked Nolan and stood in front of him. Even though she has had to drop her position as a woman a hundred times more, Eve still has to do it again in front of Nolan. "I hope you can forgive my actions just now." She knelt in front of Nolan's long legs and hoped that the man would kick her or push her to the ground in response to what she had just done. Even though Eve's chest was tight, she had to give up her pride again.

"Apologize accepted. But there are real consequences to every apology." Nolan sat back in the chair casually and put one leg on his lap without taking his eyes off Eve.

Eve didn't dare to lift her face. It suddenly seemed like she had returned to ten years ago. If before she couldn't fight because she didn't have the strength, now she didn't have the right to even look at the man.

"Eveline Amber..." Nolan mumbled Eve's name like a toy to weigh her worthiness. "Are you busy tonight?"

Eve was shocked until she raised her face in confusion. "What?"

"There is an important event I want to attend. But if I come with new toys it seems like it will be more exciting."

"Toy?" Eve suppressed a sneer from her mouth.

Nolan leaned his back against the chair and cradled his chin in one hand. "Well, people like us need a lot of lambs to sacrifice. I think you're a suitable sacrifice for that."

Eve suddenly felt bad. What plans will Nolan carry out? But if she doesn't do it, she will get a letter of dismissal and she will lose this job. Now the most important thing is to redeem her father from prison. She wouldn't make her father wait any longer, especially since getting a job with a high school graduate wasn't that easy. This is America. To become a restaurant waitress, Eve needs Bella to put her here.

"If I do, you promise not to escalate this problem?"

"You dare to negotiate with me?"

Eve immediately confirmed her words. "No, Mr. Welington." It felt like Eve wanted to disappear from earth this very second. She is trapped by Nolan's games again and again. Of all the people in this world, why did she have to meet Nolan again? Why did she have to be her toy again?

Nolan got up from the chair and squatted in front of Eve. The light scent of the man's body penetrated Eve's nose. Even though the aroma could make any woman drunk, not Eve, who was dodging the problem that would soon come before her face.

"Then get me the damn wine bottle, bitch."

Eve's hands clenched tightly until her knuckles turned white. Her breath was labored, but she had to fight the urge to punch the man and swallow her raw. Eve got up and excused herself to take her order. But before Eve turned around, Nolan stopped her.

"I only give you one minute."

Eve's eyes widened. She swore again in her heart but quickly ran down the hallway into the crowd that dominated her heart.

Nolan Wellington smiled with satisfaction when he saw the woman run out of the room. The two bodyguards standing at the front of the room looked confused, but Nolan ignored it and sat back in his chair. The cell phone in his pocket vibrated, he checked the incoming call and then frowned. The name on the screen wasn't the one he expected.

"I'm at my wits' end. We have to find the right candidate for your impromptu contract. Sir, we have to find that woman immediately." A man's voice from the other end of the phone greeted Nolan directly. Nolan's brows furrowed further, glancing at the Rolex Submariner watch around his wrist.

"John, it's just a woman. I don't have time to-"

Not even thirty seconds had passed, and Eve's footsteps rushing along the hallway were heard. Nolan lowered his cell phone slightly when he saw the woman hurriedly carrying a bottle of wine and a tall glass in each hand.

Eve swallowed hard while catching her breath. Her ponytail was a little loose from running along the street, but looking at the woman, Nolan felt inspired.

"Sir?" John's voice, his assistant on the phone, was heard again.

Nolan came to his senses and then spoke briefly. "I'll call again later." Then turned off the cell phone and immediately flicked his finger in the air. Two bodyguards at the door immediately entered and closed the door tightly. Eve gasped slightly in confusion while hugging the wine bottle in front of her chest. The two guards stood beside Eve as if imprisoning her while Nolan looked straight at the woman.

"Take out the documents," Nolan said flatly.

One of the men complied and took out a document from a black briefcase in the corner of the room. A piece of white paper was placed on the table while one of the men pushed Eve's shoulders slightly forward.

"Ouch!"

"I won't repeat myself, Eveline Amber, so please listen." Nolan started his order seriously. Anxious wails took over Eve's face. But rather than being worried, the woman was more surprised and suspicious.

"This matter is so important that you have to consider it the biggest disaster in my life and I have no other choice but to ask for your help."

Eve's brows furrowed slightly as Nolan pushed the paper close to Eve so she could read its contents. It only took Eve two seconds to read the contents because from the title of the letter-all the contents were clearly visible.

"Marriage contract?! What-what do you mean?"

Nolan got up and didn't take his eyes off the woman who was now knitting her eyebrows sharply as if this letter was a joke. In fact, Nolan never underestimates the solution to every problem even though the chance of success seems only one percent.

Nolan had no other choice. He had to take this route. It's better to try, or lose on the battlefield.

Chapter 3 Game or Real Deal

"One minute ago you were just asking me to be your servant, now you're asking me to sign this letter for who knows what purpose?" Eve almost laughed, she held back her laughter and thought this was all funny. But Nolan's indifferent expression did not convey the slightest hint of joking. Eve, who was about to laugh at this ridiculous irony, suddenly fell silent.

Nolan got up and walked to the corner of the room, taking out a pack of cigarettes. He lit a match and then exhaled nicotine smoke into the air through his mouth.

"I don't want to guess the path of your pathetic life, but it's all plainly displayed on your face."

Eve's face turned red from holding back her emotions. She was never embarrassed by the situation of her mother who used to be a stripper. The view of people who think that strippers are the same as prostitutes-both are dirty jobs, is wrong and Eve doesn't care. She also didn't care if Nolan saw it that way too. Stripping is an artistic profession, in other people's eyes it might seem embarrassing, but Eve knows her mother works for her life.

"You can still insult me when you need help from others?"

"What do I need to praise you for, Eve? From the start, you weren't attractive at all. It was perfect."

"Then just look for someone else, why ask me for help in a job that looks like it has to be perfect? Moreover, marrying you was not my choice at all."

"Are you sure?"

The big man beside Eve blocked her as she turned around. Nolan's tone suddenly turned cold. The man stepped closer, the thick aroma of nicotine wafting through the air. Eve turned to face the man who was now standing in front of her.

"As much as I need you, you are the one who needs me more." Nolan snapped his fingers again, the man next to him nodded and took out a long piece of paper from the bag. He handed it to Nolan and Nolan held up the paper in front of Eve's widening face.

A bank check.

An American dollar check. Eve had never seen a check like that exist in the real world, Eve even thought that checks only existed in romance novels that she often read in the library. But now paper bearing the American bank logo with premium paperweight was displayed before her eyes.

With this check, Eve could see hopes and dreams come true instantly. She could imagine her father getting out of prison without being hurt again and more importantly, Eve could free herself from the invisible restraints of her stepmother's family. The image became clearer when Eve realized that it was the only reason why she had worked so hard to this day.

"I think you need this much more. I heard, that one year ago your father was tortured in prison. I know it's not important, but I like remembering other people's suffering. Especially your suffering."

The corner of Nolan's lips twitched slightly. That wicked smile pierced Eve's self-esteem many times. She really needed the money. And far from pride, there was her most important father. After receiving cruel treatment from people in the prison cell, her father was always tortured and suffered serious injuries. Eve cannot bear to see her father's suffering and intends to raise money to free him. But where does the money come from if the restaurant waiter's salary isn't enough to pay the rent?

The anger that rolled with resignation made Eve involuntarily well up with tears. She couldn't dismiss Nolan's words because he was Nolan. A man who has long held a grudge because Eve's mother had a relationship with Nolan's father. Even if it was true, it wasn't her mother who was having an affair, but Nolan's father. With all the power she has, Eve mother's is just a stripper, how can she refuse that man's wishes?

But Nolan will not understand that a trivial order issued by a rich person seems to be a lifetime of suffering for a poor person like Eve.

"What should I do?" Eve finally asked. She chose to suppress her grudge and think logically. She could plan another revenge later after this. Eve thought that this opportunity was the main door to revenge tactics.

Nolan straightened his body handed the check to the man beside Eve and said casually. "Just get married, wait for my father to come home from Switzerland then I'll get the will."

"A will?"

Nolan looked at Eve sharply, not intending to explain, but Eve persisted in asking for an answer.

"If you want me to work, at least let me get to the heart of the matter. You don't want me to mess up, do you?"

This time Nolan smiled slightly. He nodded slightly. "Good self-awareness. I'll explain it later. Now we have to go home."

The two men packed things up deftly while Nolan walked to the door.

"Go home?"

Nolan held the doorknob and turned his head. "Time to get to work, stupid."

Right after that, the two men who had finished cleaning up immediately led Eve out of the room. Ignoring Eve who was exclaiming in panic because she had to finish her shift.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Eve frowned, slightly looking at Nolan who was sitting in the chair in front of her. The Roll Royce sedan in which they had been riding twenty minutes ago had pulled over to a salon to do Eve's make-up and was driving through the busy traffic on Broadway. Eve sat a little uncomfortable in a dress made of white brocade which was slightly revealing at her stomach and waist. This mini dress was one of a thousand dresses that the fashion shop owner Nolan had chosen for her.

"You are incredibly beautiful, Eve," Nolan said the compliment with a cold look as if it almost sounded like a threat. Instead of being happy with those words, Eve narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms.

"What do you want to say, Mr. Wellington?"

Nolan was silent for a moment, then looked away at the view outside the window. "Nothing."

Eve snorted. This outfit made her a little uncomfortable. For Eve, who never puts on make-up unless it's an important event, or wears beautiful dresses like this-the one Eve spied on could cost almost ten thousand dollars! What crazy person could easily spend ten thousand dollars in one go as if it were just ten cents?

But Nolan's wealth is not something Eve needs to think about. She was much more worried about what it would be like at Nolan's house. The impression was too vague, especially because it had been almost ten years since Eve remembered the stories of her downfall in high school, information about Nolan's life had also been forgotten a bit.

"Mr. Wellington," Eve called to the man who immediately turned to her.

"How long do you think this work will be needed?" Eve asked.

Nolan let out a small sigh and then put his feet on his back in a relaxed manner. "No idea. Why?"

"Is it that complicated just for a will? Aren't you the fashion designer of the very famous brand NW? Why can't you get the will easily?"

Nolan looked at Eve as if what she said was a joke. "What do you poor people think? Do you think we rich people just sit and drink wine leisurely?"

Instantly Eve was silent. She felt she had said the wrong thing because Nolan was now leaning in front of Eve. Stare at her straight and sharp.

"Listen. Even though I'm a hundred times richer than the American president, the Wellington family's sacred will is something I have to risk beyond all my efforts so far. So never take this work lightly."

These words pierced Eve's doubts, who still half felt ridiculous about this work problem. But when she glanced at Nolan's sharp eyes, the blue as deep as the sea reflected by the light outside the window, Eve realized that maybe this wasn't a game after all.
