Every day was a normal was always the same for Charlotte Ronald.
She was the accountant of the famous company, Martha Jones fashion ltd.
She went to her office.
"Good morning office." She grinned at the office equipments. This was a very unusual habit she cultivated.
She opened the window and toon in the early morning air.
"Ahh." She grinned.
She walked to the chair and sat on her chair.
"Today is definitely gonna be a long, long day." She chuckled.
Someone came into the office.
"Charlotte?" It was a lady.
She looked up, "Oh hey there Mary, what's up?" She smiled cheerfully.
Mary fiddled with her hands, "Uh... The director would like to see you." She avoided her eyes.
"Is something wrong?" She asked keenly.
"You should come meet the director, she wants to see you right now." She bit her lips.
Charlotte creased her brows, "Okay."
She stood up and followed her out of the office. She followed her to the director's office. She stood outside the door and looked at Mary.
"Wish me luck." She gave Mary a thumbs up.
Mary dropped her gaze and nodded.
"Here we go." She inhaled.
She entered the office and greeted the director, Martha Jones.
She was the most popular and successful dealer on fashion in the city.
"Ma'am, you called me." She said in a polite tone.
She rolled her throne-like chair around and faced her.
"Oh, Charlotte." She said with a blank expression on her face.
She was a bit surprised, Mrs. Martha never greeted her in that manner.
Mrs. Martha sighed deeply, "Come, take a seat." She motioned for her to sit.
She took a seat in front of her.
"Charlotte... You're a very hardworking and very efficient young lady. I love your dedication to your job."
"Thank you ma'am." She blushed.
"But I'm sorry, you can't work with us anymore." She pressed her lips together.
"What? What are you saying ma'am?" She tried to laugh it off.
"I'm serious. You can't work with us."
"So you're firing me? On what grounds if I may ask?"
"You were caught embezzling money from the company's account. It's such a miracle that I am remaing silent. Luckily for us, a savior rescued us from your evil act."
Charlotte felt her heart would burst open any second. Why would she think of something as despicable as that?
"No- No, madam. I'll never... I wouldn't think... Why would I... Why would I..." She was unable to find her words.
"You may come in now." She called out.
A tall sexy lady on a velvet gown came inro the office. She walked with practiced steps towards them.
She stopped at the side of Charlotte, "Hey there Charlotte." She smirked.
Her eyes were red with fury.
"Anne Franklyn here, saved us from the bankruptcy you were about to drive is in." She said calmly.
"No ma'am, I'm sure... this is a ploy! She conspired against me!" She pointed at Anne.
Anne pretended to be shocked, "Gosh, Mrs. Jones, why would I do such a thing? You trust me, don't you?" She smiled slyly.
"Of course, you're a good girl." Martha smiled at her.
Anne had never liked Charlotte from the start. She hated the fact that Charlotte had to be the accountant while she had to be under her keeping the records only.
"Ma'am, believe me when I say, I'm innocent." She fell on her knees crying in tears.
"I'm sorry Charlotte but we can't keep embezzlers in our company, we have to avoid bankruptcy in any way we can." She said firmly.
"Ma'am, I've worked with you for three years. You know me, you know I'll never embezzle the company's account." She cried.
Anne rolled her eyes, "Oh, ma'am, you know three years isn't enough to judge a person in and out. Within those years, a person can have a change of mind." She looked at Martha.
Martha nodded, "Yeah, that's true." She said.
"How could you think of me like this? You know I'd never steal!" She shouted.
"Don't raise your voice at me young lady!" Martha warned.
She felt so helpless, why was this happening to her now? Her heart was twisting with severe pain.
"Ma'am please, I don't wanna lose this job. This is the only means of survival for me." She cried.
Anne smirked, she had always wanted to see her in this state. Seeing her cry gave her so much happiness.
"Please leave my office Charlotte." Martha said.
"You want me to leave?" Charlotte asked surprised.
"Yes, please leave my office. You can go somewhere else and demonstrate your emotional stuff." Martha pointed to the door.
"You can't just ask me to leave!" She yelled.
Martha stood up annoyed, "It's either you leave on your own or I call the security guards to throw you out!"
Charlotte was speechless, never in her life had she been walked out of a place.
She looked at Anne who smirked with a very mischievous twinkle in her eyes.
She stood up slowly, her eyes still on Anne.
"You'll regret this one day Anne." She said and wiped her face.
"You dare threaten someone in my presence?!" Martha yelled.
Charlotte slowly turned around and left the office. Once she was in her office or her ex-office, she collapsed on the floor and cried hard.
She was completely shattered and broken. Where would she start from? This job was her only means of survival. She was the independent type, she never wanted to ask her parents or boyfriend for anything.
She cried till she could cry no more. She sniffled and picked herself up. She went to her desk and started packing her things.
Her tears blurred her vision. She inhaled sharply and continued with what she was doing.
She packed them all in her bag and proceeded to leave the office. She was on her way out when she saw Anne passing by, a smug smile on her face.
"You framed me right?" She asked from behind.
Anne rolled her eyes and stopped. She turned around to face her.
"Yeah, I did. What you gonna do about it?" She smirked.
"You!" She pointed at her, "What did I ever do to you?" She cried.
"Oh sweetie, don't worry yourself. You should rest from all this tedious work. C'mon go enjoy yourself... Jobless!" She laughed out loud.
"You'll regret this Anne, I promise you!" She pointed at her.
Anne cackled and left her standing there.
What was she gonna do?
She walked on street looking glum. Her eyes was puffed and red. She sniffed and wiped her eyes.
Her heart was heavy. She managed to walk down the street. No thing and no one mattered that moment.
Some people tried greeting her but she didn't even acknowledge their presence.
She was going to Damian's house, he'd be the one to comfort her and tell her everything was gonna be fine.
Her eyes went blurry again, she tried wiping her eyes but the tears couldn't stop racing.
She walked briskly and began to jog and then she ran all the way to Damian's house.
She got there and knocked on the door severally, there was no response but she didn't care less. She opened the door and went in.
The living room was quiet, Damian was not someone who left the house on a Friday. She scaled the living room, his shirt was on a sofa lying carelessly.
She arched her brow and went further in. The door was not locked so there was no way he had left the house.
"Da- mian? Damian are you in?" There was no response.
She frowned lightly, was he ignoring her or what? She wanted to go into the rooms to check but decided to stay in the living room.
She sat down and brought her phone out. She dialled his number but his phone rang on the table besides the couch she sat on.
That was strange too, he was never without his phone. A strange feeling engulfed her heart. She sniffed and picked his phone.
"Where could he possibly be?" She frowned.
She stood up and called his name again but still didn't get any response. She was confused and worried.
"Did something bad happen to him? Was he taken away from here?" She bit her finger nails and went to the kitchen. He wasn't there.
In haste she proceeded to the rooms. When she got there, she saw a lady's undies in front of the room. She arched her brows.
"What's this doing here?" She looked at it and then at the room.
Her heart began to race, "Please Lord, let it not be what I'm thinking." Her face broke into a cold sweat.
With trembling hands, she reached for the half opened door. She pushed it back with full force. The movements under the sheets stopped.
She walked briskly to the bed and flung the sheer from whatever it was covering.
Her heart seemed to stop and stand still, her hands and face went white, her jaws dropped as she stared at the backstabbers.
Damian looked at her and rolled over to the other side of the bed. Valerie looked at Charlotte and gulped.
"Char... Charlotte, what a pleasant surprise." She laughed nervously.
A tear dropped from her right eye, "Valerie?" She said in what sounded like a whisper.
She looked at Damian, "Damian, you... you're sleeping with Valerie?!" She yelled.
He ruffled his hair and groaned, "Does it matter?" He said without a care.
Valerie stared at her with puppy like eyes, her breasts shone with Damian's saliva.
"Valerie you were supposed to be my best friend!" She screamed.
Valerie pouted, "Oh c'mon Charlotte, you can't just keep the good things to yourself huh? At least your best friend deserves to share with you right?" She grinned foolishly.
She was short of words, is this the way life had decided to treat her?
"How could you? I trusted you both!" She held her head.
Damian scoffed, "Keep those crocodile tears to yourself please. They annoy me." He rolled his eyes.
"You should be ashamed of yourself bitch!" She started at Valerie but Damian got to her rescue just in time.
"I'm warning you Charlotte, leave her alone!" He warned dangerously.
"Damian I trusted you, how could you do this to me?" She cried covering her red face with a hanky.
"Stop it Charlotte, don't try acting all weak and soft in front of me. If you can have a little fun, why can't I?" He raised his hands.
"Have fun? Do you really think I have fun with other men? You know me better than that!"
"Is that so? Oh please, I know what you do in that so called office of yours, I know it all." He smirked.
"You don't know anything! I wouldn't have fun with any other person!" She defended herself.
"If you don't have fun with anyone else, then why won't you sleep with me?" He fired.
She felt her heart shatter in pieces, her legs went numb and she fell on her knees and cried.
"I already told you, I wanted to keep..."
Valerie laughed hard, "You still believe in that nonsense? You still keep that?" She laughed at her.
Charlotte looked at her shocked, wasn't she the same girl who would preach the sermons, her mother preached to her?
She felt nothing but hatred for the girl in front of her. This wasn't the girl she called a best friend, this.. she was someone else but not her best friend.
"No one marries as a virgin anymore sweetheart, all those beliefs and whatever are now things of the past. So stop deceiving yourself." He scoffed.
"C'mon Charlotte, come join us. Your boyfriend... I mean, our boyfriend is so hot. You should come try him out." She barely finished her sentence when Damian captured her lips.
Charlotte watched in sorrow as they locked their lips passionately. Her heart fell to her stomach, this was such an unbearable sight.
She couldn't stand it anymore so she ran away from the room, from them, from the haunting flashbacks.
In her haste, she forgot her handbag in the living room and didn't bother to come back and take it.
She ran as fast as she could away from that place. She had no idea where she was going to but she wanted to go away from that place, as far as possible.
She couldn't stop running and crying at the same time. Her body trembled and shook. She ran with unseeing eyes towards a place her heart wouldn't feel so much pain and sorrow.
She tripped and fell. She didn't get up, she just lay there and cried her heart out. What did she ever do to deserve all these? First her job, now her boyfriend or more like ex-boyfriend.
Remembering how their lips locked right in front of her made her suffocate. She coughed for a while. She sniffed and lay on the ground not caring what would happen to her.
There was a horn blare behind her. She didn't hear the horn blare, she just continued sobbing and sniffing.
There was a loud thud and some footsteps. A heavy figure stood above her.
"And what are you doing in the middle of the road?"
She looked at him with teary eyes. She sniffed and stood up noticing his car.
"I'm sorry sir, I didn't notice your car." She apologized.
She cleaned her eyes and walked backed to the pathways. His eyes followed her back.
"Wait." His voice sounded.
She stopped and faced him, "Yeah?" She asked absent minded.
He walked up to her, "Where are you going to?"
"Anywhere I can go to." She replied teary.
"What happened to you? Why are you crying?" He asked softly.
She sniffled and palmed her face trying to stop herself from breaking down in front of him.
"It's my boyfriend... He.. he..." Her voice was choked and she couldn't go any further.
The man got the message . He felt sorry for her and he pulled her in a hug.
"It's okay. You're fine without him. Stop crying over a piece of jerk." He patted her back.
She sniffed and looked at him. His light green eyes were particularly striking and she wondered if the man in front of her was a human.
"Who are you?" She sniffled.
"No one important." He smiled softly.
"You don't know me. Why should you care?" She knotted her brows in confusion.
"Hey c'mon follow me." He took her hand.
"Where to?" She frowned.
He looked at her and smiled, "Just come with me. You'll feel better. It's not as if walking on the road and crying will change the fact your boyfriend cheated on you." He arched his brow.
She gulped, "But.. I don't know you. I just can't follow you." She blinked.
He turned and faced her, "I know and I don't want you to end up in the middle of the road again crying. It's definitely not gonna be that good for you." He explained.
He exhibited this kind of warmth which she longed for. She smiled sadly and obliged. She could argue no further.
"Thank you."
He nodded and led her to his car.
"Drive." He told the driver.
He quickly ignited the engine and drove off.
Charlotte felt weird sitting next to him. She looked at him and their eyes met. She looked away blushing a little. This guy was handsome.
"What's your name?" She heard him ask.
She sniffed, "It's Charlotte." She replied.
"Mmh.. Charlotte huh?"
Even his voice was enough to turn someone on.
"Yeah, Charlotte." She wiped her right eye.
"Are you still crying over a crap who doesn't deserve you?" He raised his brows.
She palmed her face, "He was my first boyfriend." She sobbed quietly.
He gently put a hand on her shoulder, "Don't cry Charlotte, you deserve a lot better." He patted her back.
"Worse of all, he slept with my best friend!"
He raised his brows in surprise, "Your best friend? Whoa, that doesn't look like what any one's best friend is gonna do." He drawled.
"They didn't even feel sorry." She palmed her face again.
"It's okay. They don't deserve you." He said soothingly.
She felt a bit relieved, he had kind words and made her feel better.
They arrived at his house. It was a beautiful mansion.
It was such a grand building, the grandest she had seen in her life. The compound was huge and spacious. The pathways had tall leafy trees, the pathways was tiled with marbles, the front lawn was perfectly manicured and it had a fountain in the centre.
The car took them further in the compound. He had a greenhouse too!
Charlotte gawked at the sight, this was the most luxurious building she had ever seen.
He smiled seeing her reaction and shook his head lightly.
"Whoa, this place is beautiful." Her eyes widened. For a moment, she forgot her grief.
The driver parked the car in the car park.
He got down but Charlotte remained in the car. He knotted his brows and went to meet her.
"Won't you get down from the car?" He asked.
She hesitated for a while and got down from the car.
She looked around, scared.
He gave her an assuring smile, "It's okay. There's no need to be scared of anything." He stretched out his hand.
She took it with trembling hands. He led her inside the house.
She followed him inside filled with awe, this guy was definitely no ordinary guy.
He led her to a sofa and made her sit on it.
He walked towards the kitchen. She sniffed and wiped her eyes again.
He came back with a glass of water.
"Here you go, drink some water." He handed the glass to her.
She took it and gulped it down in one drink.
He sighed and took the glass from her when she was done drinking.
"You okay?"
She nodded, "A little." She smiled sadly.
He sat besides her, "Let me get this clearly, your boyfriend cheated on you with your best friend? Do you have any idea why?"
Tears welled up in her eyes again.
"He said I didn't sleep with him. My best friend was the one who agreed to give her body to him." She inhaled sharply.
"What's your boyfriend's.. I mean... Ex boyfriend's name?"
"Damian. His name is Damian." She said croakiky.
"Damian?" He said a little bit surprised.
"Yeah." She sniffed.
"Damian." He repeated.
"Yeah, what's wrong?" She looked at him confused.
"Oh, it's nothing,I was just surprised. He's my nephew's name sake." He smiled.
She cried again remembering how they kissed passionately in front of her.
He felt sorry and hugged her again.
"Stop crying Charlotte." He caressed her hair.
She cried all the more in his arms. He caressed her hair until she stopped crying. She kept quiet, unable to cry anymore.
He was so comfy and she couldn't resist his warmth. She snuggled up against his chest.
He patted her back.
"Stop crying. It's okay. Let it be. Who knows, maybe he wasn't meant to be with you." He cooed.
His words made her feel better. She smiled.
There was silence for some moments.
"Charlotte?" He called her name with so much care, it was as if he had knew her before.
"Mmh?"
"You've broken up with him right?"
"I think so." She sniffed.
"You think so? He cheated on you, there's no way you can go back to him." He said.
She knotted her brows and looked at him, "Why do you care about that?" She asked suspiciously.
He went mum for a while.
She creased her forehead, "You won't say anything?"
"That's because I like you."
