Emily's POV
It was late December. I had just received the best news of my life. I was pregnant!!!
Daniel and I had tried for over three years to bear a child but all our efforts proved futile. I was glad that I had such a kind and understanding man, not so many men would have such level of patience.
I held the envelope in my hands and I clutched it to my chest and tears ran down my cheeks. I got closer and closer to our front door, so happy to break the news. As I moved closer and closer, a lot of things were becoming strange in my eyes.
First of all, the front door was wide open. Something that had never been done before. Knowing Daniel, he was the security conscious kind of guy.
The entire house seemed okay, everything was in place but Daniel was still no where to be found.
Where could he have gone?
I moved a bit towards our bedroom and was hearing rough sounds. I could hear low voices and the thumping sound of our matrimonial bed. Then the moan of a woman.
A woman?
"Yes, give it to me baby. Give it to me."
"Mmmh. Do you like it?"
That was Daniel' voice and the lady responding in a very seductive tone. That voice sounded oddly familiar.
I moved closer and then pushed the door knob.
Lo and behold, I found my husband fucking my bestie. His eyes widened when he saw me but she? She couldn't even care less. Her eyes were as dead as the act she was performing against a dear friend.
My heart shuddered. I could feel it breaking into so many pieces.
I came here to share good news only to meet bad news. Oh Lord! What is this? Is she prettier than me or what? What was it about her that made him go after her? Or maybe they were right all along, cheaters cheat because they want to. Because it is a conscious decision.
I took a step back at this realisation in front of me. Another woman naked before my man kissing and touching him.
"Emily i can explain." He tried to move a step closer but I used my palm to signal a stop it right there motion.
"Emily." He moved closer again.
"Will you stop it?" I cried, "I trusted you. I gave you my heart. I was loyal. Why? Why Daniel? Why?"
"It was the devil Emily I'm begging you. It was the devil." He fell at his feet and was crying before me.
"Of course," I rolled my eyes, "It is always the devil. Always the devil." I said sarcastically.
"And you?" I looked at her, "Aren't you going to say anything?"
She was as mute as a mouse.
"I'm done with this marriage." I uttered. "I want a divorce."
"Emily. Emily." He ran after me as I quickly zoomed out of the house and slammed my way into my car.
He kept on tapping at my car window endlessly and resorted to blocking the front of my car to stop me from moving.
"Move out of the way or I'll hit you!" I yelled at him but he wouldn't listen.
He was begging me to come down so we could talk. I started the engine and moved the car and that was when he dived into another side of the road.
Pathetic!
"Baby," I cried holding my tummy, "it's just you and me now. Your dad will never find out about you."
I didn't know where I was driving to at that point. I remembered my mom telling me that as soon as I'm married that I have no business going back to my father's house.
I come from a very strict religious home. My mom tolerated a lot of shit from my father when he was still alive and no matter how he treated her she never left his side.
She even landed in the hospital one time because of him.
My mom had suffered multiple miscarriages in the past as a result of the beatings before finally giving birth to me. I became her first and only child.
My mom was just lucky and she knew it. Do you know the amount of women that get killed everyday by domestic abuse? They're so many. If there is one thing that I have vowed to myself while watching my mom suffer is that I will never end up in an abusive or unhappy marriage.
I zoomed past with tears welled up in my eyes and my nose clogged up from the phlegm formed as a result of crying. I started breathing from my mouth and exhaling through my nose.
"Don't worry baby," I said rubbing my tummy, "mummy will take care of you."
My phone started ringing. I was too irritated to look at my screen, I was even more irritated when I saw the name of my screen.
Daniel.
I hissed and drove faster. I didn't have his time at all. Not at this point. The traffic stopped for a while and I was getting impatient. Normally, if this kind of thing happens in a movie the girl normally runs to her bestie to cry but guess who is caught cheating with my man?
Who is to console me now? Is it my mother? She will literally tell me to go back to my marriage.
Speaking of the devil, she started calling soon after. I guess Daniel told her that I wasn't home and you know how her lectures always are. She was just too male centred that she would take trash just to please them. I was tired. I tried.
I took all her lessons about how to please your husband, how to make him not to look at any other woman, I even bought books on marriage and seduction, I bought lingeries, I bought sex toys just to make my marriage more lively.
I guess my efforts just weren't worth it.
I knew what I was going to do. I was going to leave the city and start all over again. She can have him all she wants. He's all hers but he can never have access to this child that I'm about to raise.
Daniel's POV
"Son you have to do something. Call her! Call her!" Mom yells into my ears as my hands try to dial in her number.
I called for the fifth time and it still wasn't going. Emily was not picking any of my calls.
I had been calling her since yesterday but she was being so stubborn.
"I don't understand why she is overreacting." Mom said roaming around the house in circles, "Cheating is a minor thing. All men cheat. All men are bound to cheat so why is she acting up? Your father cheated on me, I never said anything. I never left our marriage. Just imagine I left this marriage with every single one of you those years ago. He would pick another wife ASAP while we rely on something as insignificant as child support. Give me that phone!" she commanded and I handed it over to her.
Mom had always been this way. Stubborn, persistent, and always caring about our family's reputation.
"I will never allow anyone to drag our family's reputation to the mud. The Clay family is a united front and there is no such thing as a divorce. It doesn't exist."
A door came slightly on the door. Our maid, Nora went to check it out. Shortly after, she returned with an envelope.
"What is that?" my mom said while snatching the envelope. She ripped it open and her eyes popped at the realisation of its content.
"What is that?" I moved closer looking really curious.
She passed the letter to me and put her hands on her hips looking worried.
"She wants a divorce." She broke the news without even allowing me to read the contents of the letter.
"Mom, come on I can't lose my wife."
"You should have thought of that before cheating," she yelled at me. "Since she is so bent on getting a divorce there is no need convincing her but she is not getting a dime from this family. And we have to paint her as the bad guy in this story. We can't throw our company's name in the mud."
"Your wish is my command." I responded to her as she was fuming in anger.
She was my mother and I loved her more than I loved my wife so her wish would always be my command. Besides, love is subjective and feelings can always be lost.
Why I cheated? Maybe I was looking for something else, maybe I was tired of her, just maybe and Daniella presented herself to me at the accurate time and it just happened to be the time that Emily caught me.
With the use of our connection we were able to influence the media to push a false story all over the Internet.
"Emily Clay, wife of Clay Corporation's CEO, Daniel Clay caught cheating on him."
"Daniel Clay files divorce on his wife Emily Clay."
The media was buzzing. The masses were buzzing. Comments were littered everywhere and everyone seemed to be on our side. What a time to be a winner. You see in this game when you got no cash you don't win. People like me will always be on top, I am not part of the chess, I am the one manipulating the chess.
For the first time in what seemed like a long time Emily called. She was crying all over and blocking my ears.
At first when she caught me cheating I felt a sense of remorse and wanting to make up but now that the tables were turned round I didn't feel shit. I so much enjoy being in a predatory position, although now the media perceived me as the prey, the victim. I scoff in laughter.
"Daniel you bastard how dare you? First you cheat on me and now you ruin my reputation. I hate you." She said pouring her tears through the phone.
"Shhh honey! I would never hurt you. We could make things easier. Come back to me and your reputation will be as clean as snow."
"Never! I will never tolerate a cheating husband." She said and ended the call on me.
Still cocky. I smirked as I turned on the television. The report on the news gave me so much joy.
Seeing myself on the screen being interviewed by the press gave me even more joy. There is no limits to money.
I had successfully put all my properties under my mother's name so there was no way that bitch was going to have a bite on that alimony and yes! I will be getting married to Daniella, apparently she is pregnant for my child. Something that Emily could not give me in three years, Daniella was able to achieve that in just one passionate night.
I was a lucky man and it was my luckiest day ever. I could imagine Emily at this point screaming and yelling. Maybe she even faked her barrenness to push me to cheat so she could pull the divorce card and take all my properties
You never know with these women. They all be thieving.
I looked at the divorce paper sitting pretty at my mini side table with a pen on top of it. I went closer to it and sat at the sofa close to it. Then I picked up the pen and after consuming the contents from the paper I signed it with all pleasure.
Aurevoir Emily! Bienvenu Daniella!
"Boss! Boss!" Nora came hopping in.
"Someone is at the door."
"Who is that?" I replied.
"It's Lady Emily." She responded.
My mind tingled. Speak of the devil, I never thought she would show her face here.
"Let her in." I responded.
Nora ran off to open the door while I moved majestically to the front door to meet with my nemesis.
"Daniel." She ran to me with tears in her eyes and started beating my chest.
She was beating it really hard while I stood as firm as ever, looking unfazed. Her hands were just like pillows. Soft. Cushy. Comfortable. I liked it. I loved it!!!
"Daniel how could you? You ruined my name. Now no one. No one believes me. My mom doesn't even believe me. I hate you. I hate you."
"Are you done?" I said with a cold look on my face.
She stopped crying for a bit and just looked into my eyes.
"Guards," I called out, "take this cheating woman out of here."
"You know I didn't cheat. You know I didn't cheat. You know I didn't cheat. You know I didn't cheat." She kept on ranting while my guards came and dragged her ass out of my house. Her tears were messing up with my expensive tiles.
"Nora, please when she's gone mop the tiles. I hate the tears of unfaithful people." I said before putting my hands in my pocket and walking back into my home office.
Emily's POV
Walking round the streets, with eyes all planted on you and occasional:
"Hey, aren't you the wife of Daniel Clay, the richest man in New York City or am I mistaken?"
"You are mistaken." I say and pass off.
God knows why I didn't put on a hoodie and a mask. Everyone just be looking at me like I murdered somebody. I can't even hide from this, Daniel is known worldwide. He has the biggest tech company ever, the youngest billionaire ever, has shares in many social media platforms, he's also a partner with the biggest beauty brand ever, he is every lady's dream woman.
As I passed I could hear ladies mocking me.
"If I had a man like Daniel I would hold him tight. Why would I even cheat in the first place? Only a fool does that." I could feel her eyes pierce at me as she looked at me disgustingly.
Nobody really cares about your story. They only believe what the media shows them. They only believe what everyone believes. Typical herd behaviour. And I never believed how much the media could be manipulated till now. I thought I would win but look at me. Back to base.
My mother had been calling me but i wasn't even picking up. I didn't want to hear her sermons. Just not now.
My phone buzzed and buzzed but I refused to pick then all of a sudden a swarm of reporters surrounded me, poking microphones all around me. I had never gotten this much attention in my entire life. Of course I craved for it but not with this kind of bad publicity.
I was trending all over social media and blogs. My story was all over tiktok's for you page. They had successfully painted me as the villain, the unfaithful wife.
"Mrs. Clay can you answer some questions. Is it true that you cheated on your husband, one of the most richest man in the world?"
"I can't answer your questions." I said dodging them and trying to wriggle my way out but they were just too much. They kept on forcing themselves on me and I was suffocating so badly.
I couldn't take it anymore. I ran so fucking fast but those demons kept chasing me like leave me fuck alone! Daniel has won! He has won! Tears trickled down my cheeks.
I saw a nearby taxi and I got in and told the driver to just keep driving. He listened to me and drove me to my hotel room. I paid him fairly and entered my hotel room.
The divorce procedure had already been finalised. This shit was finally over except for the constant mentions of my name by content creators and social media in laws.
I packed my luggage neatly and readied my bags for what I was about to do. I was leaving to come back again, but this time I will come back stronger than ever before. This will not be my downfall. I will take my crown back and pay back coin for coin what that man I once loved did to me.
The comment sections were still buzzing like mad. People even came to my social media handle to harass me in my dms. And I had women who came just to shame me for what I did not even do, but we all know why they're overreacting. For days I turned off my television cause every since channel seemed to be talking about me.
"It's time to start life afresh baby." I said rubbing my stomach as I spoke words of affirmations to my baby.
I pushed my luggage to the Uber waiting for me downstairs and sighed in hopelessness. The Uber driver started the car and started driving me off. I looked over at the window and watched the trees buzzing pass, the wind caught up on my hair and I wished it could just take my life. I was tired of this life. I was tired of living like this.
I had nothing and was about to start from scratch. Not even a source of income. The only thing meaningful I took from that marriage was the baby in my belly.
The driver drove past where he was supposed to drop me.
"Sir, you passed my destination." I spoke up, "Sir. Sir. Are you listening to me? Sir."
He looked back at me and before you know it he jammed a handkerchief into my face making my drift into another dimension.
I opened my eyes and found myself in very large room. It was laced in red and black. Red walls, red bedsheets, black blanket.
I was on the bed half naked, all my hands and legs were being tied to each of the four corners of the bed. I tried to pull but I couldn't get out.
"Don't even try." A masculine voice uttered, "I see you're awake."
I could only see his dark figure. He kept coming closer and closer till I saw his full figure. He was hella hot.
"Who are you? And what am I doing here?" I questioned.
"If I were you I would be careful about the way I talk princess." He narrowed his body towards me. He was literally leaning beneath my legs, then he started tracing my pant lines with his finger and snapping at it, slapping it against my skin.
"You undressed me." I barked back.
"No my men did."
"That is not so gentlemanly."
"I am not a gentleman honey, I am a gangster."
He peered at me and his eyes spoke danger. My body quaked with just his breath hitting against my skin. Who is this man? Who is this strange man?
"I have seen you all over the news." He broke the silence, "You have been trending as of late."
"Listen I know Daniel," he continued, "I know what he's capable of and I know that you are innocent."
"It's too late now. My reputations already ruined."
"I can help you."
Did I hear that correct? A stranger? This man standing before me would help me?
"And for what price?"
"Marry me."
"Hahaha hahaha." I burst out laughing because it was so unbelievable. That I should marry him? A common stranger? Come on.
"I can make you untouchable, dangerous, a goddess, I can crush all your enemies for you and anyone who dares challenge my special woman. All those people who looked down on you would get a complete shut up. The masses? Who the fuck are those? Just accept my offer and all these will be yours."
Enticing.
Enticing.
"I agree." I agreed, not for love, no no no but rather for revenge. I want revenge. Nothing but revenge.
