Chapter 1 The Start

"Will you marry me?"

Jasmine walked to a man standing in the corridor.

Her lips parted in a soft gasp as he turned to her.

His dark blue eyes stared at her in a dark, ominous way, her eyes tailed his body down, and he was down to earth.

"This would do just fine." She mumbled in fear, my eyes flickering.

The man looked across the corridors, but the next man was far away from him.

"Me?" He pointed at his nose. "Are you referring to me?"

His brows narrowed followed by a chuckled after Jasmine nodded.

"A stranger?" He scoffed, his warm breath hit her face. "You go around marrying strangers?"

"It's a marriage of convenience. We will go our separate ways after that."

The man tilted his head slightly, barely giving it a thought.

"I'm Damon, and you're mine now."

~~~~~~~~
Two hours ago, Jasmine had dreamt of a beautiful and happy life with her fiancé, Stefan, but things changed.
The wedding guests fidgeted in their seats, waiting for the arrival of the groom. The door opened, but to their surprise, it was the bride. The groom was supposed to be at the altar before now.
Jasmine's heart palpitated, her greatest fear was becoming a reality right in front of her eyes and she couldn't control it.
"Where is Stefan?" Jasmine whispered to her friend, Cecilia, who was beside her as she forced a smile and walked up the aisle.
"I have no idea, he was supposed to be here."
The two ladies faces marred with worry.
"He would be here soon." Jasmine convinced herself as she stood at the altar alone, her eyes fixated at the door.
The door opened, caught the attention of all, and it was indeed Stefan who was obviously not dressed for the wedding.
"What are you doing, Stefan? You should be ready." She tried to whisper to him while staying calm as he walked up to her.
"Get ready for what? Marry you?" He burst out in a loud, hilarious laugh and looked at her. "Nobody will ever marry a person like you, besides, my work here is done."
A gasp rippled through the crowd, disappearing into the air as the guests turned to each other in disbelief.
Jasmine's heart was shattered into a million pieces as she tried to comprehend what was going on.
"Is this a prank?" A flicker of hope that it is beamed in her eyes.
Shaking his heart slightly, Stefan walked out of the church, leaving everyone amused except for Jasmine, who was heartbreak.
There, she made a choice. One that she would regret all her life.
Jasmine ran into the corridor and found a stranger to marry her.
"Do you, Damon Forbes, take Jasmine Stones as your lawfully wedded wife?" The pastor asked.
Jasmine's eyes found Damon's, scared of being betrayed by this stranger she was about to get married to, she prayed silently.
"Yes, I do."
A feeling of relief swept through Jasmine's body.
"Do you Jasmine Stones take Damon Forbes as your lawfully wedded husband?"
"I do."
And that was it, their fate was sealed together for a year.
A few hours later, Jasmine and Damon were in the hotel Jasmine had booked earlier. While Jasmine was in the bathroom, Damon pondered on what Stefan meant by:
"....my work here is done."
Jasmine walked out of the bathroom, cladded in a towel and patting her body when my gaze locked with Damon. His piercing eyes made her uncomfortable, and she looked away.
"I know this is awkward, but you don't always have to give me that look." Her unwavering voice tried to find its balance as she turned her posterior to him.
"It's fine, I kind of needed it too." A smirk cut across his face.
She turned to look at him, her brows narrowed, trying to figure out what he meant, but he kept mute.
The next morning, Jasmine decided to out on the beach.
"I'll come with you." Damon uttered, getting out of bed and dressing up.
After dressing, he walked closer to her and grabbed her hand and made his way out of the room, but she kept staring at him.
"Should I be scared you're staring? Or you're just being creepy." He halted and turned to her with his cold face and a stern look that marred his face.
"Oh! Sorry about that, just....." Her gaze fell on their locked hands.
He shuddered, "I thought we were married, wouldn't it be nice to act it well?"
"Sure." She pouted her lips, not knowing what to do.
They got to the beach and found a space which they occupied. Damon sat on the beach while Jasmine took off her jacket, revealing her sexy hourglass shape in a bikini.
"Should I be scared you're staring? Or you're just being creepy." She teased as she jumped into the ocean.
He recognized it instantly but couldn't place it, that mark was one he would never forget.
He pulled out his phone from his pocket and was about to punch in some numbers when he noticed some weird looking people. They were dressed in suits but had their eyes on him and Jasmine.
His instincts kicked in immediately, and he walked to the Ocean's bank.
"Hey, sweetie. Why don't we take this fun somewhere special?" A grin contoured with a wink was all it took to convince her.
"Sure," She smiled and stepped out of the water.
Though she had no idea who this man might be, it was all she had always wanted – to be treated like a spoiled princess.
He grabbed her jacket and helped her wear it.
"Thanks."
He wrapped his arm around her, which made her weirdly uncomfortable.
"Hey, Damon. I know you're..... But this is going too far."
"What should be going far are your leg." He whined, keeping a straight face that made his piercing eyes even more scary.
Jasmine soon noticed some men walking behind them, fastening their pace as theirs and got scared.
"What's going on? Are we being followed?"
"No, I'm being followed because they know who I am." He briskly uttered, pushed her into an elevator and shut it.
He turned to the men with a sly evil grin.
"Why don't we deal with this like men?"
A slightly hefty man among them walked closer to him, placed him hands on his shoulders and looked into his eyes.
"Next time, stay away from such women......"
He walked past Damon with the other men and got in the elevator.
".... Take it as advice."
"That mark!" His jaw dropped.
Chapter 2 Gone Husband
The next morning, the cloud was barely cleared when Damon began to pack their bags. Jasmine tossed on the bed, slowly opening her eyes, and jumped up to a sitting position when she saw Damon packing.
"What are you doing?" Her voice shaky yet, without fear.
With a fiery in his eyes, he looked at her.
"I barely got to save your life yesterday, and I can't risk that anymore. You should return to your house." He uttered and continued packing.
"No...." She grabbed his hand, his eyes trailed to hers. "This is our honeymoon, we can't let them ruin it." Her eyes flickered as she bickered.
"Scared of ruining the honeymoon or scared what people have to say about you after marrying a stranger and back from your honeymoon two days after?" He scoffed, his words piercing her heart, and he resumed packing.
"Or would you rather save your life? To experience the formers?" A stern look marred his cold voice.
Grunting, she got out of bed and began preparing to change. He spied on her body through the corner of his eyes, curious to ask how she got the mark, but it would be best to let it wait.
There is something more important for him to do. Damon recognized one of the men from yesterday, and it was Lorenzo's men.
"I need to know why they are after her." He mumbled as he zipped the bag.
"Pardon," She turned to him. "Did you say anything?"
"Yes, not just to you." He snapped and wheeled the bags to the door.
"Be down, you've got only a minute." He threatened rather than saying, his brows narrowing.
She glared at him, but he was behind the door already.
"What nonsense! Who does he think he is?" She scoffed, her lips curled in disgust as she buttoned up her shirt.
She went to the car, he had called them a cab.
"You should....." She smacked her lower lips, ran her hands through her hair as she looked at him frustrated. "I have enough cars that could pick us up, I can't get into the cab. It's too dirty."
Damon's steps quickened towards her and dragged her by the wrist.
"The last thing you want to do is piss me off." The tone in his voice scared her, making her fragile and scared.
An awkward silence went in the cab as they drove home, but the couple looked out through the window in different directions. Jasmine turned to look at him, with her face softened. She had decided to trust him, regardless of what he does.
"After all, he prioritizes my life." She mumbled, and he turned to her, caught her staring.
"Did you say anything?"
"Yes, but not to you." She snapped softly with one of her brows raised.
She rather focused her gaze on the beautiful view until they got to her house.
"Here you are." The driver's smile was seen through the middle mirror, but they both ignored him.
Damon brought out some money from his pocket and handed it to the driver.
"I could have afforded that." She smirked. "Who knows, I might have married a mysterious Billionaire." She said in a harsh tone that complimented the cold look on her face, and stepped out of the car.
Damon also stepped out of the car, uploaded the bags and made his way to press the bell on the gate.
"Who do you think should carry the bags?" She scoffed in a sweet, romantic voice, hoping to get him to do it.
He shook his head, "It seems you have everything covered, you should do that yourself."
He rang the bell and the gatekeeper peeped through the small opening on the gate, seeing Jasmine, he hurriedly opened the gate.
"Bring those in." She ordered, her head up as she was led like a classy woman past Damon, who scoffed at her.
When they walked into the living room, they were welcomed with a stench. Before Jasmine could ask what seemed to be the air what went wrong, the answer walked into the living room – Laura.
"Laura? What's going on?" Her voice hurt, yet firm as the drunk Laura approached her.
"As you can see....." She sipped tequila from the bottle and spread her arms out to the mess she made in the living room. "I'm just enjoying my day, and shouldn't you be on your honeymoon?"
Jasmine kept mute, her glint gaze full of rage for what her sister had become.
"Did he put you through this again?" A tear almost fell out, her voice breaking apart.
The driver walked in with the bags, and Damon took it from him, waved his hand for him to go.
"What do you think?" Laura sat on the couch, the tears rushing through her cheeks wouldn't stop her from drinking. "How does it feel not to be protected? Not to be heard? Worse, not to be believed." She snapped into rage and threw the bottle of half tequila over Damon's head, barely hurting him.
"Calm down, Laura. I believe you." Jasmine made to move closer to her.
"Really?" Laura scoffed softly. "Then why haven't you done anything? Why do you get to be the only one who gets to marry who you want?"
Jasmine managed to crawl to her side and hugged her.
"I know this would sound weird, but I didn't get to marry someone I wanted either. I only married someone to help me escape who they would want me to marry." Her voice pierced Damon's heart, for a reason he didn't know.
He felt the pain in her voice, but the pain in his heart was nothing compared.
Laura, drunk and tired from drinking all day, fell asleep and Jasmine tried to lift her up.
"Let me help." Damon carried Laura to a room Jasmine led them to.
"Thanks for your help." She said to Damon, who was standing behind her, her gaze fixed on Laura.
"I'll be back for the contract..... To claim you officially, Jasmine."
Chapter 3 A Threat
Two weeks later, Jasmine was seated in her office, working on some files, when she heard some people murmuring a familiar name – Mrs. Stones.
The door opened and Mrs. Stones and her Personal Assistant, Mason, walked in. Though she had seen her through the transparent glass miles away, Jasmine refused to acknowledge her mother's presence.
"You do know I'm here, right?" Mrs. Stones asked as she pulled out a seat across the table and sat down.
"And what? Listen to your blabbing over again?" She scoffed, not taking her gaze off the file.
"I'm your mother, and I'll like you to accord me some respect."
"That would be when you deserve it," Jasmine snapped, thudding her fist on the table and startling Mrs. Stones.
Her gaze fell back on the files.
"Two weeks, is it?"
Jasmine's eyes locked with hers, confusing etched on her face about her question.
"Two weeks since you got married.... Two weeks since you came back from your honeymoon, which was supposed to last a month." She got up and walked to the window, stared outside for a few seconds and swiftly turned to Jasmine, whose gaze was fixed on her.
"And two weeks since he has been gone."
"Say whatever you want to and get out of my office, I'm too busy to listen to your blab."
"Yeah, you might not be, but I'm sure you'll come soon to me asking for help." She said, and Jasmine swallowed hard, knowing her mother doesn't make an empty threat.
"What is it?"
"You're to marry Larry by the end of the month....." Jasmine looked at her mother, bewildered. "Your father's words." She said, and made her way out of the office, Mason following behind her.
Jasmine's world came crashing right in front of her eyes. Her fear had finally caught up with her, and she would end up like her sisters, abused and humiliated.
Maybe dead like Lucia.
"No.... That will never happen."
She rummaged through her bag, looking for her phone, she scrolled through her contact list again – that would make it the tenth time she had gone through it in the day, looking for Damon's contact. But it was the same, all, but not Damon's contact.
"How can I be this stupid?" She beat herself up for not having his contact.
The door opened; she was quick to comport herself, it was her Personal Assistant, Isobel, holding a file in her hand as she walked in. She has a blond hair and about five feet tall, a fine face with brown eyes.
"Are you okay, Mrs. Forbes?" She asked in a voice filled of care as she sat down.
"I'm fine. What's it?"
Isobel dropped the file on the table, flipping its pages, "You have a meeting with the shareholder in thirty minutes."
"Anything else to do after that?"
"No, ma'am. You'll be done for the day after the meeting."
"Thanks, Isobel. I'll be there shortly." She said, and Isobel exited the office, though her eyes were literally pleading to know what was wrong.
Jasmine took a deep breath, got up and walked to the coffee dispenser across her office and made a cup for herself. While sipping it, seated on the couch next to the coffee dispenser, she thought about Damon.
"You made me escape the hell Stefan left lingering for me just to drag me back to it?" A tear rolled down her cheek, she wrapped her fingers around the cup. "I thought you would be different, Damon."
She chugged the now warm coffee down her throat.
"So be it. The next Mrs. Gilbert." She snapped softly and rose to her feet.
Dropped the cup, grabbed her bag and headed to the meeting. As she stepped out of her office, Isobel approached her and helped her with her bag while following behind her.
After a long while of three-hour meeting, Jasmine was eager to lay in her bed and forget the world ever existed.
"You may leave, Isobel. Take the rest of the day off and I'll see you tomorrow." She bickered with a smile as she took her bag from Isobel.
"Thanks, ma.". She said and went down to the packing lot.
Jasmine got in the car and was about to ignite the car when she heard a clattering sound. Curious, she stepped out of the car to check, but everything seemed just ordinary. Turning back, her gaze was met by an unfamiliar one, Julian, who covered her nose with a napkin and watched her fall into a deep sleep.
He carried her into his car and drove off with her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Being waiting for hours, Damon seemed to be tired of waiting and was about to call Jasmine's office when a call came in – saved as Perry.

"Hello." His deep voice bellowed as he placed the phone close to his ear.

"It's Jasm......."

"Complete it and lose your tongue." He cut in.

"It's Mrs. Forbes."

"What about her? Is she on her way home now?"

"I'm afraid not." Damon's heart jumped, so as his feet. "She was kidnapped before I got to her office."

A sigh swept through Damon's lips, but it was filled with worry.

"Do you know who it was?"

"It was Ryan."

"Ryan?" Confused etched his face. "Why would he kidnap her?"

"The question should be why does everyone seem after her."

"You know what to do, right? I'll join you in a jiffy." He said and ended the call.

His fist clutched around the phone as he lowered it.

"If they are all after her, that makes me want her more." His lips curled in achievement, of what he's yet to achieve.

He left the house and went to a house, built in an old-fashioned way but stocked with the latest utilities. As he walked into the room, his eyes locked with her – Ryanair, Ryan's twin.

She was tied to a chair and the look that marred her face showed how much pain she was in.

Damon's hand stretched out and one of the men in the room handed him a phone, a call was being dialed on it.

"Hello, Ryan. Long time no see." A smirk contoured his face.

"What is it you want?"

"You wouldn't want to lay your hands on Mrs. Forbes, that I'm sure is what you want."

Ryan scoffed, "What makes you think I don't want to do otherwise? Or even more?" He teased, his voice filled with lust.

"Let's just say I would also love to lay my hands on Ryanair? Or even more?" He grinned and ended the call.
