Chapter 1 Amelia Castellino

Amelia is a 24 year old beautiful young orphan who lost her father 2 years back leaving her to take care of her 16 year old younger brother Dino Castellino. She has completed her graduation in Designing 2 years back and is currently working in Corrible Corporations as an assistant to the chief designer Lucas. She is sharing an apartment with Sandra Norman who has formed a strong bond in the past couple of years.

The morning rays of sun fell on her bright face illuminating her beautiful features, her smooth glowing cheeks, her voluptuous glistening lips, her long lashes covering her closed eyes and beautiful curls of her brown hear which has spread all over the cushion on which her head lay. Amelia was bestowed with a beautiful innocent face and a delicate body with an hourglass figure having heavy busts and a very thin waist. She never worked on her figure or her face, it was genetically gifted to her by her mother.

Her mother came from a humble background and lived a simple life until she met her husband, Amelia's father Giovanni Castellino, who went head over heals the very first time he met her. He pursued her fiercely and forced her to say yes to his proposal. He was so mad in love with her that even after her death he refused to remarry as he believed no one should take her place and continued to take care of their children as a single father till he died.

Amelia was born in a mansion with a silver spoon had guards to protect the mansion, live in maids who would get the necessities and fulfil her demands in the blink of an eye and such lovely god gifted parents who protected her from all miseries. Despite coming from a rich background Amelia's mother always inculcated good values in her, so that she wasn't a haughty or arrogant during her growing years but rather carried a warm heart and had affection for all. These riches were all taken away from her 2 years back when her father became bankrupt and committed suicide.

The same day her father died, she was thrown out of the mansion along with her brother who landed on the streets on that ill fated day by the bank debt collectors who seized their property and assets rendering them homeless.

Having a degree wasn't enough for Amelia to earn a decent income; she was rejected for a year by all major companies and had to take the job of a waitress cum cleaner in a restaurant which her father owned previously. Amelia never complained, she still seemed happy and hopeful to get a better job someday. As if God had answered her prayers, after one year of serving as a waitress, she received a letter for interview in Corrible corporations which was a prestigious designing company although Amelia never remembered applying for it as she was rejected by companies which were lower in cadre to Corrible corporations.

Her joy of joining the prestigious company was short-lived as she was often bullied and criticised heavily by her colleagues and her boss who was the biggest tormentor currently, Amelia never understood why her peers never appreciated her hard work and dedication and her boss Lucas never missed a chance to throw insults and humiliate her for the smallest mistakes. Taking a leaf from his book her colleagues Stacy and Laura would also harass her and bombard her with their work too. Any complaint which Amelia made to her boss was often backfired leaving her with more work at the end. Amelia worker more than her colleagues in terms of quality and quantity but was often labelled as 'lazy', 'retard', and more by verbally abusive boss.

The apartment which was her 'home' was where she would find peace and a shoulder to cry. Discussing her problems and sorrows with Sandra who was her sole friend would lighten her crying heart a bit and help her deter the deter the thought of leaving the job. Sandra would convincingly make her understand that her current job gives her enough to support her brothers' academics and quitting it would make her go to her previous job of a waitress.

Amelia thanked God for giving her such a wonderful friend with whom she not only shared her apartment but also her worries and happiness. Amelia had many friends when she was rich, but they all dumped her when she got to the streets. It felt like they were friends with her money and not her. But that never made Amelia unhappy, she was glad that she found their true colours at the least. Now with a true friend like Sandra, Amelia only considered herself fortunate feeling God never leaves anyone alone.

Amelia always carried a positive attitude in life despite her strenuous professional life, financially difficult personal life and was happy that she was helping in her brothers' academics. She saw true love in her parents and hoped she would also find someone for herself like them. Little did she know that fate had different plans and her true love would be a vengeful beast she would soon meet.

The apartment with she shared with Sandra was small, had paint peeling from the walls with two tiny rooms that could only fit a bed and a cupboard and a living area which was transformed into a kitchen by the girls so as to get the maximum benefit out of the place. Amelia earned average but preferred to spend very little on her rent so that she could save a lot for her brother Dino's education fees who lived in a dormitory to complete his schooling.

Amelia woke up in the morning with a smile on her face, something that never ceased to happen, prayed silently in her mind with her eyes closed hoping for a good day and proceeded to her bathroom for her morning business.

After taking a shower, she draped her body with a towel and came out. She stood in front of the mirror and applied her moisturizer judiciously so that it doesn't empty quickly. After applying the gloss on her lips, she wore an old dress with a floral imprint. The colour of the dress had faded completely and the hem of it was torn at a place and it was unravelling too. Even in the tethered dress Amelia's skin glowed like a princess. Her beauty overshadowed her dress quality making heads turn to her direction wherever she went.

She came out of her room and sat near the kitchen table when she saw Sandra prepare something near the gas stove.

"Did the sun rise from the west". Sandra turned around holding a spatula in her hand. Sandra was never a morning person, Amelia always made breakfast for both of them and dinner too. So seeing Sandra wake up before her and cooking meals surprised Amelia.

"I thought of making breakfast for us for once at the least. You always make it for us so effortlessly and my big fat mouth eats your deliciously cooked meals without bothering to make it even once"

Sandra saw Amelia laughing at her words. It had been a year since they shared the apartment and Amelia cooked for them. Sandra was always late from work and never found the dinning table empty when she got home. Sometimes Sandra would come home early but would leave to catch up with her boyfriend Aaron who worked in some pub. 'Late to bed, late to rise was her motto'. Amelia would cook and keep the food covered on the dining table so that Sandra never had to order or go to bed on empty stomach. She always took care of Sandra like a family.

Amelia had never met Aaron, but was happy for Sandra that she got someone to love, someone to cling on and share her happiness. Amelia also never questioned Sandra why she never moved to her boyfriend's place if she went out to see him most of the nights.

"I am making vegetarian pancakes for you and boiled eggs for myself. We have juice and brewing some hot coffee making a perfect breakfast". Amelia was a vegetarian since childhood; never liked the thought of killing animals to satisfy your taste buds. Sandra pushed the plate containing pancakes towards Amelia.

"Umm...tastes good". Amelia was enjoying the pancakes wondering how Sandra can cook so efficiently; last she remembered Sandra cooking was a year back when they decided to move in together.

"At least the start of your day should be good, who knows what hardships your boss and colleagues would be planning for you today".

Amelia raised her eyebrows. "So you seem quite sure that my day would be screwed as always".

"With the rude arrogant ass of a boss you have got, its magical if your day turns good".

Amelia put the fork in her mouth enjoying the taste of the pancakes. She sipped the coffee that gave her the desired warmth to her body. "you are right. Magic alone can help keep my senses in place."

"You see your prince in shining armour will soon free you from the clutches of the old haggard wizard.". Amelia laughed aloud at the usage of the words.

"You are expecting some fair tale like adventure in my life. I just want a simple peaceful life."

Little did she know that her life was going to be far from peaceful in the nearby future.

Chapter 2 Her office

Amelia always travelled by bus to her workplace. But today she was short of money, so she walked for 4-5 kms till the next bus- stand so that the travel would cost her less fare. She would get her salary paycheck today and most of it would be gone to pay bills, rent and her brother's tution fees.

As soon as she reached her office, she sat down to work immediately as Lucas wanted the designs ready before 11 am. After completing her work, she hurriedly entered Lucas' cabin at 11:15 to submit the designs.

Lucas pointed his finger at her by bending his elbow and his wrist keeping his hand close to his body. "You have no basic manners of knocking the door before entering I believe?". He was a skinny man in his mid-forties who had an effeminate way of communicating with others.

"The door was open and I am sorry. I hurried up so that I can hand over the files before 11." Amelia was still gasping for her breath.

Lucas narrowed his eyes after shifting his gaze to the clock behind her.

"Have you seen the time? Its 11:15. You are 15 mins late. What more can be expected from a lazy ass like you". Amelia had so far got used to this undignified language her boss used with her for the past one year. She had never raised her voice against his atrocious behaviour; truth to be told she had never misbehaved or fought with anyone in her life, her parents and the rich lifestyle had also cocooned her from such bullies and her mothers teaching to also give love and not hate to others was diligently followed by her. It was only after her fathers death that she had understood that the world around is treacherous and cold but still she tried to dissipate her warmth to others.

Amelia looked down at the floor not responding back to his comments.

"Do you even take a shower before coming to the office. You look as if you have worked manually like a labourer under the sun before coming."

Amelia didn't complain. Her boss was indeed right this time. She had that exhausted look on the face after walking for an hour and half; while other girls would rush to the restroom to adjust their hair and make-up, she would prefer to complete her never ending work before deadlines, to avoid her boss' harsh remarks. She also never had a make up kit in the first place.

"And look at your clothes. You look like a homeless beggar in those rags. You should be given a janitor's job instead of making my assistant." Amelia heard giggling behind her. She turned her head to see Stacey and Laura, her colleagues laughing at her.

"Now get out. And you have more files to complete. They are on the other desk. Get out of my office quickly, I don't want to see a dirtbag like you in front of me spreading your stink in this room." Lucas removed a room freshener from his drawer and started spraying it all over while crunching his nose and holding a tissue in front of it.

Amelia quickly collected the files and left the place. The humiliation that she suffered everyday was getting on her nerves but having no option in front of her, she had to endure the insults without complaining.

She was working on her files when Stacey and Laura approached her desk and handed her two more.

"You have to complete this too. This is our work." They smirked looking at her face which was plain livid considering the fact that she was already bombarded with ten times more work than them.

"Try and understand. I am already full with these files. You have no work at all. I am even taking some of these files home so that I can finish the before tomorrow. I am not getting paid any extra for it."

"A beggar like you should be happy that people with status like us are even considering talking with low standards like you. You are so fortunate to be communicating with us. Be quick or else.....". Even without completing the sentence Stacey threatened Amelia. She was often bullied by these girls who would complain to Lucas falsely if Amelia refused. It happened once that after receiving their fake complaints, Lucas who treated her horribly went to the extent to get her fired from the company. She had to plead and beg before Lucas on that day to stop him from kicking her out of her job. The other girls only earned marginally higher than her salary but never stopped calling her with insulting names.

Amelia had to skip her lunch to finish her work. Seeing her pathetic state as usual, her colleague Jared interrupted her work. "Miss workaholic, mind if I take a minute of yours."

Amelia turned her head upwards and a genuine smile hit her lips. "So nice to see you after such a long time. Are you permanently shifted here again."

Jared was a blonde handsome young fellow who never bullied her. On the contrary he always sided her and fought with the others. But unfortunately, the company transferred him to sales department 6 months back leaving her all alone with the monsters around.

"you forget, I have to report the previous sales in the first week of every month."

"Seeing you brightens my mood so much that I forget everything, hoping ythat you will be transferred back permanently. I am so happy that at least we get to meet once a month."

"If you wish, we can meet more often". Jared winked and his lips curled around. Jared liked Amelia romantically and never missed an opportunity to flirt with her.

"Come on Amy. Lets go to the pub tonight. Or maybe to a restaurant. Or a movie. Whatever you wish. Be my date for once." Jared pouted like a child making Amelia smile again.

"Listen to me Jared; Tonight is impossible. I am taking these files home for completion which I don't think would be done before midnight. I have to be very careful with my work or else the boss would be hurling abuses at me. Additionally I will get my paycheck today; I have to withdraw money from the ATM to pay my bills."

Work wasn't the only reason to refuse Jared's request. Amelia had been unfortunate in dating the right people in the past that had left her emotionally wounded. Also, she had no beautiful dresses to wear for the pub, buying new clothes wasn't in her list of 'to do' events. She was exhausted in paying bills and Dino's fees that she never pursued activities for leisure. She had also argued with Dino once who wanted to work part-time to earn money to help her with the financial burden but Amelia sternly objected asking him to focus on his academics alone.

"Have you heard of online transactions, internet banking?" Jared narrowed his eyes while being sarcastic.

"Some crash in my online system. I have to manually collect and send it."

"You have 101 ways to refuse handsome men. Are you sure Amelia that you are straight because your behaviour seems otherwise."

Amelia laughed and threw a crumpled paper ball at him. Jared enjoyed pulling her leg and he always made sure that she laughs when he is around. He didn't mind being her 'friend' only because her presence and her smile always had a calming effect. Jared had a difficult past and her innocent smile also made him forget his grief; he couldn't explain the positivity Amelia carried around her. So he always wished to spend more time with her; requesting her for dates.

"I see what is happening. Office is not meant for your jokes and fun. And I wonder how busy people get delayed to submit their work on time." Lucas was standing at a metre's distance from them with his penetrating gaze directed towards Amelia. This wasn't the first time that her boss had interrupted her friendly conversations with Jared. Her boss would manage to throw insults at her every time she chatted with Jared and surprisingly, he would be present in no time when they had a good time together.

'Does he spy on me all the time. He doesn't catch me when I am bullied by the girls but when I am laughing with Jared he lands up immediately in front of us'.

All Amelia could do was look down and hear the nasty comments from him. She took a leave early carrying the remaining work home.

Chapter 3 Meeting the don

Amelia collected the cash from the ATM and kept it in her bag that was hanging on her shoulder. She had to cross the road to reach her stop. While walking, she bumped across a man and the handbag fell down. Before she could bend and collect her bag, the man swiftly grabbed it and ran at a marathon like speed.

"Thief, Thief! Catch the thief. He has my purse". Amelia shouted blowing her lungs out. All the bystanders looked in the direction Amelia was pointing but the man was gone. The bag contained money for the rent, bills for the fees and it was all gone in a blink. Amelia's head started spinning around and she sat on the footpath for a while to register the event for a while. All the hard-earned money was gone in less than a second. What could she do? How would she get it back? She didn't even get to see the man's face properly. She was all tears when she noticed a police station nearby.

Amelia did not carry high hopes as the thief seemed very experienced in his work; but thought to register a formal complaint. God knows if the police somehow nab the thief with the help of CCTV cameras and help her in the situation.

She swept her feet towards the station and became completely breathless on reaching there. An officer noticed her worried face and offered her a seat.

"Please take a seat madam and let me know how can I help you? My name is Officer Roger Fredrick"

Amelia was still gasping for air while seating. "Sir, please help me, my handbag got stolen. I was returning to my house with cash which I collected from the ATM when a man with a cap bumped into me and my bag fell and he grabbed it and ran away. It just happened few minutes ago, he should be nearby, please help me officer."

"Calm down Madam. I have to register your complaint first. I can't just run around without the paper work. Please fill in the details so that we can catch the thief fast."

Amelia began answering the questions the officer asked like the colour and size of the bag, all its contents and the exact location where the theft occurred.

Her gaze was focused on the pen which the officer was using to write the complaint. Suddenly the pen stopped writing and she looked up at the officer whose gaze had shifted behind her towards the door of the station. He stopped his work and stood up and the other officers in uniform like him were all standing up. The slightly chaotic environment of the station has turned all silent like the silence before the storm.

Amelia turned her head around to see the reason for the pin drop silence and saw someone at the door. A tall figure, heavy build with sharp Greek God like features. But he didn't seem to be an ordinary person. The mere fact that his presence made the officers stand showed he had power, great power. There were around ten men behind him in black suits which Amelia understood as his bodyguards. When Amelia was rich, her father roamed with body guards too but only a couple. This man in front of her exuded immense authority and power not to mention riches. He was around 6'3" and wore dark glasses and instinctively she sensed dark vibes emitting from his aura.

A senior officer came running to greet this man. "Good evening Sir.... P...Privileged to meet you in person. P...please tell us how can we s...serve you?" Amelia had never seen a police officer of such a high rank stuttering in front of someone. Each passing minute increased her anxiety and fear of this man whose name was still unknown; she just wished the man with the dark aura to disappear fast. Even officer Roger wasn't bothered in her problem; all were now concentrating in serving the stranger who was now standing besides her.

A husky voice then spoke, "I want to lodge a complaint". Amelia's feet started trembling on hearing his voice. His voice was commanding, it evoked fear. The stranger pulled a chair next to Amelia and sat on it. The senior officer then commanded Officer Roger, "Stop whatever you are doing, lets not waste his precious time. Note down his complaint immediately".

Amelia's hearbeat fastened. She was panicked firstly by the man with the dark shadow was sitting besides her and secondly her complaint was left halfway through to note down the stranger's complaint.

"P...Please continue Sir". Officer Roger who was trying to calm down Amelia few minutes ago was now stuttering. He opened a fresh page and gripped his pen tightly in his trembling hands.

"A man seemed to be in a hurry, was crossing the road when my car struck him. He was pushed and fell down. My driver and I got out of the car to look at him when he got up and started limping, continuing to cross the road. He was slightly injured due to the accident but seemed to be running away from someone or something. I heard a faint sound from a distance, which sounded like thief catch him and this alerted the man whom I was trying to offer assistance and medical help. He simply pushed me away and walked off. I then saw this brown bag on the road and realised it should belong to a woman. It must have fallen during the accident and the man didn't notice. So I have come to hand over the handbag so that the rightful owner can claim it."

He snapped his fingers and one of his guard brought the bag. Amelia's eyes widened on seeing her brown bag. She had lost or rather it was stolen few minutes ago and it came to her on its own.

"Its mine" she shouted and grabbed it from him.

Amelia didn't bother to look at him after snatching it from his hands. She was more concerned about the valuables inside. When she opened and found the cash in its place, she sucked a deep breath to see that the contents weren't disturbed.

"How lucky! Problem solved". The rich man lips turned upwards slightly.

Amelia who was still busy searching the other contents now shifted her gaze to the man. Though the man's smile seemed fake, Amelia believed him as an angel in disguise.

"Thank you so much sir. You have no idea how much I am indebted to you. I believe in God and his miracles. God sent you today as my saviour." She rose from her seat extended her hand to thank him.

The rich man stood and accepted her hand in return. Amelia could feel the roughness of his skin. It wasn't smooth but calloused and his grip was tight. It seemed that his hands were trained could hold heavy and rough objects.

"Tony Lopez here." His grip tightened her delicate hands further.

"As a matter of fact, that you saved my time and these officer's work in writing the complaints" .Tony then removed his dark glasses to show his hazel eyes to her. Amelia tried pulling her hand away from his grasp but he held it tightly. She ignored this gesture when her eyes met his brown orbs.

He seemed to be familiar. She overlooked the fact that he wasn't leaving her hand while she was contemplating if she knew him.

"have we met before?"

Tony bent down his head to reach her height and brought his lips close to her ears

"Nice way to flirt. But many women have tried it before. Better come with a new idea."

Amelia managed pull her hand from his strong grip after hearing his comments. She genuinely felt that they had met before but he dismissed it as her flirtatious attitude.

"I am sorry sir, I don't want to have any misunderstandings. I wasn't flirting. I am honestly getting a déjà vu feeling like we have shaken hands before. I am sorry for presenting myself wrongly."

Tony's lips upturned slightly giving Amelia the same impression of a fake smile like before. "Nevermind, I am happy to meet you and hand over your belongings." He then quickly turned around and strode off leaving her in total bewilderment.
