Alyona
"I fucking hate you, Greg!" I mumbled gulping down the remaining content of the glass. I smiled bitterly remembering how much of a fool I've been. The writings on the wall were clear but I was way too blinded by love to see it. My eyes darted around the room whose light was dim, music playing loudly, and people smiling, dancing, and chatting but here I was burning with pain. It felt as if my heart had been pierced with a million thorns.
Every single member of my family warned me but I didn't listen. Even my betrayal of a friend who I caught sleeping with my boyfriend Greg but I was too foolish to listen.
I let out a breath, I was done, I was done crying over a crazy fucking motherfucker who didn't give a damn about me. It was a good thing I broke up with his fake sorry ass. I had gone to Greg's apartment because he didn't show up at college, and didn't pick up any of my calls or reply to any of my messages for some days. I got there only to find him banging my best friend while saying stupid things about me. How he planned to dump me after I agreed to have sex with him and when they did see me, he tried to fake remorse but Alice didn't even try, all she said was that it was good that I found out at least now I was going to stop forcing myself on her boyfriend. I thought about giving both of them a beating but kicked against it, they weren't worth my time.
"Another bottle," I muttered to the waiter in front of me but he didn't do or say anything, he just stared at me with pity which I hated.
"Didn't you hear me?" I questioned raising my voice.
"Ma'am, you've had a lot to drink already, I think you should go home or perhaps call someone to come pick you up," the waiter mumbled lowly.
"Are you fucking serious? Do you get paid to try to babysit customers? You know what I'm done listening to your bullcrap and shit, I'm going to leave." I yelled standing to my feet. I noticed I had drawn the attention of others when I saw them looking in our direction but I didn't care. Reaching into my trousers pocket I took the money in it and handed it to the waiter.
"What?" I glared at him when I saw his eyes widen in surprise.
"Ma'am this is a lot. It's more than what you drank."
I nodded, "I know, keep the rest. You are right I should get home now. Bye."
With that, I turned around and sauntered away before he could say another word.
My parents were going to be dead worried about me, and my brother as well. I knew by now my dad must have informed our extended family that I wasn't home yet. I could only hope that Sophia my cousin was yet to say anything about my breakup with Greg to anyone since she was the only one who I told about it. I wasn't going to tell them about it at least not yet.
"Hey beautiful," A man mumbled stopping in front of me abruptly making me stagger backwards. I was far away from the bar, I had taken a secluded route. I didn't feel like taking a cab I thought it was going to be best if I walked home.
I ignored him and made to turn in the other way but he grabbed my wrist pulling me to him.
"You don't walk out on me beautiful," he smiled showing his set of yellowish teeth which had one missing.
"Let go of me this minute," I mumbled in a soft tone clenching my fist.
"So fierce, I like that. What if I don't?" he cackled taking steps to me.
I sighed shaking my head, "then it would be a pity."
Rearing my fist I punched him hard in the face and then pulled my wrist from his grip. His palm touched his face and his eyes narrowed. I guess he was in shock maybe he hadn't expected me to punch him.
A lewd smile plastered on his lips.
"You just made me more interested lady."
"Really," I arched my brows.
He rushed at me, just as he was about to hit me I bent backwards and he fell to the ground.
"How dare you!" he raged through gritted teeth standing to his feet.
Before I knew it he clutched my hair which was in a ponytail pulling me backwards, and then he caged me against a wall before letting go of my hair. I kicked him in the groin and he fell to the floor.
"For a lady, you have too much strength," he said groaning in pain.
I chortled, "And for a man, you've got very weak stamina."
"Have a good night mister," I uttered as I packed my hair.
I was a few feet away from the man when I heard him whistle and two men appeared in front of me.
"Shit!" I should have expected this. This was probably an ambush but I had to face it.
"Never let your enemies see the fear in your eyes," I closed my eyes reminiscing my brother Adonis's words. Adonis was my older brother he taught me how to fight and he was a great coach. He started to teach me when I turned seven our mom was against it since she thought there was no need for me to learn how to combat but our dad persuaded her giving her reasons why I had to learn.
My eyes wrenched open and I threw my fist in the air, a smirk embraced my lips as I saw one of the men in front of me lose his balance. My fist collided with his face. The other man glared at me and before I could do anything he slapped me in the face.
I laughed bitterly before surging at him and then I kicked him. He groaned in pain as he fell to the ground.
"Let go of me," I barked as two of the men grabbed both my arms tightly.
"You've done enough, it's time we teach you a lesson," they snickered.
"Let go of her," a deep husky voice filled my ears making me veer in the direction the voice came from.
"Ah," I winced holding my head with both hands as something hit my head. I expected to fall to the ground but a pair of hands wrapped around me firmly. I stared at the hands, on the back of the right hand was a scar that was crescent-shaped. I managed to lift my head, The man was wearing a black hoodie and a black mask. I found myself drowning in his pair of emerald green eyes that shone like spellbinding lode stars before everything faded, and I lost consciousness.
Alyona
My brows creased in confusion as my gaze darted around the unfamiliar room. My head was hammering hard but that was the least of my worries at the moment. I closed my eyes trying to recall how I got here. Did I get kidnapped? No! I shook my head which I immediately regretted because the headache increased. The green-eyed man. What was I doing on this bed? I lifted the duvet that was over my body I was still fully clothed, I sighed and then sat up on the bed when a knock came on the door.
"Come in," I mumbled. I couldn't wait to ask the green-eyed man where this place was and why I was here.
The door screeched open and a woman walked in with a tray in her hands. I felt a tinge of disappointment seeing that it wasn't the man but regardless there was hope since I could talk to the woman.
"Good morning ma'am, I hope you had a good sleep," she mumbled before placing the tray on the table which was beside the bed.
"Good morning Ma'am. Please where is this? Where is the man that brought me here?" I asked staring at the woman intently.
"You mean young master? He left early this morning but he asked me to make you breakfast. If there is anything you'll need ma'am please let me know and I'll be sure to attend to your needs." she said to me with a smile on her face.
"Thanks but I'm not interested. I have to leave now," I uttered and sprang up to my feet.
"Ma'am, please...." I didn't get to hear the rest of her words because I sauntered out of the room and shut the door. I kept wandering around before I was able to get to the main door, the house was a big one. Once I reached outside the premises of the house I halted looking around. The area didn't look a bit familiar, I figured out that I was lost and even worse I didn't have a penny with me. How then was I going to reach home?
I saw three cars in sight and sighed in relief when the first one pulled over in front of me and so did the rest after each other. I could tell who the cars belonged to even without being told. One of the doors of the second car pulled open and my Dad stepped out and then my Uncle.
"Alyona," My dad wrapped his arms around me when he got to where I was.
"Dad," I smiled hugging him back and then I hugged my Uncle next after I broke the hug with my dad.
"How did you all manage to find me?" I asked my voice coming out in stutters.
I averted my gaze from my dad to his guards who were now out of the car and surrounded us. They had the same stoic expression they usually had on their faces.
"We should get going now, everyone is worried about you." my Dad said in a stringent tone and I realised that he was mad at me. Well, why wouldn't he be after what I had done? I snuck out of the house without my phone and didn't return to the mansion last night.
My gaze was downturned I didn't want to see the disappointment in his eyes, it made guilt wash through every one of my veins.
"Dad, I'm so..." I started to say but his voice interrupted me.
"Save that for later, now get into the car," he stated firmly not sparing me a glance.
"Vladiv, you should take it easy with Alyona. You don't know her reasons," Uncle Vladimir spoke up.
My dad gaped at his brother with furrowed brows. "Don't interfere," he muttered before walking to the car and then he got in.
"Uncle, I'm sorry I got you all worried," I mumbled remorsefully.
"I know Alyona, I'm sure you feel sad about your dad's reaction but he going to come around. He is just really upset, he was worried about you and your mom as well. He has been in search of you since yesterday." Uncle Vladimir sighed patting me on the shoulder. We both ambled to the car afterwards.
"Are you ok Alyona?" My dad asked peering at me.
I nodded, "I'm fine, Dad. How did you and Uncle find me?"
"Is that all you are worried about?"
I shook my head," of course not."
"Well to satisfy your curiosity. We found you using your earrings." my dad said pointing at my ear and I touched my earrings.
Earrings? I arched my brows. How does that even make sense? Well, except there is a tracker in them.
"There's a tracker in my earrings?" it wasn't a question. I wanted my dad to affirm it. He had gifted me these diamond earrings two years ago on my twentieth birthday.
He bobbed his head, "Yes. Thanks to it we were able to find you."
"Dad, I'm not a kid you don't have to track me around."
Getting to know about the tracker made me feel like he didn't trust me so he felt he had to monitor me and it did hurt me.
"Seriously, you are furious. Do you know what trouble this tracker you are so upset about has saved us from? Do you know how worried your mom has been? Your brothers? Your cousins, aunts, uncles have been? The whole family have been worried about you, and all you care about is your whereabouts being monitored. I'm disappointed Alyona. I thought something bad had happened to you, I was upset with myself. I'm an ex.."
"You are an ex-mafia don, isn't that what you were going to say?" I huffed cutting him off. It wasn't my fault that he was a leader of a mafia gang why then did I have to be at the receiving end paying for his choices? I couldn't live a normal life no member of my family could even though my dad no longer belonged to the mafia, his past life was his shadow. I had to go out with the guards he ordered to follow me around like I was a kid, they never let me out of their sight like they were my babysitters. It took me a lot of brains to escape them yesterday and for the first time in ages, I was able to go out all by myself.
"Alyona, take it easy.." Uncle Vladimir's concerned voice came.
I turned to face him, "I wish I could uncle but I have to pour out my heart."
"I didn't force you to be a Don dad..."
"Alyona," my Dad cautioned making me flinched.
I smiled chewing on my lower lips," What Dad? The truth hurts, doesn't it? Maybe Mom can't tell you but I will. Stop making us sacrificial lambs for the path of life that you chose."
I opened the car's door and stormed out since we had gotten to the mansion.
"Alyona," I was met with an earful of joyful screams when I opened the door and walked into the living room.
Everyone was present except my brother Adonis and my grandma. Adonis was overseas and I could only think that they didn't inform my grandma that I hadn't returned home because she was going to be so worried.
Uncle Damon and his wife Aunt Tati, Maya and Mason their kids, Aunt Lexi and Uncle David her husband, Aunt Leila Uncle Vladimir's wife, and their daughter Sofia, my mom, Rio my younger brother were all present and it was from one hug to another just like I expected. I knew what this meant there was going to be one huge family meeting it was a good thing that today was Saturday and I didn't have to go to college.
"I'm fine Mom," I managed to plaster a smile on my face as my mom cupped my cheeks. I had told her I was fine for the umpteenth time but the expression on her face made me feel she didn't believe me.
"Did you into a fight with your dad?" she asked.
"Mom, I need to go in," I muttered but she held my hand just then the door screeched open and my dad walked in with Uncle Vladimir behind him.
"Honey is everything ok?" my Mom asked hugging my dad.
"I think Alyona is in a better position to answer that since she is so mad at me and I don't even get why. I'm supposed to be upset here," he mumbled gazing at me after they broke their hug but I looked away.
"I need to go freshen up," I sighed and veered to walk away but my mom's words made me halt.
"You don't walk out on your family lady."
I heaved a breath before turning to face them.
"Mom, please can we not do this now?"
"We have to," she said calmly.
"So tell us why are upset? Does this have to do with why you didn't return home yesterday?" she threw questions at me one after another.
"Remember the gift I got from your darling husband on my twentieth birthday. They had trackers in them." I let out.
My mom fixed her eyes on my dad and he sighed, "It's not the way she puts it, Baby. I've never tracked Alyona's movement using it except for today."
"Honey, I think this is all a misunderstanding we should sit and talk about this," my mom sighed taking steps toward me.
"Right," I cackled before I continued to talk.
"I knew you were going to take his side, I'll just go in there and take my belongings and go to grandma's. I can't live here anymore. I'm fucking tired of this!"
"Mind your language, Alyona. I won't accept this," my mom scolded raising her voice.
A sigh left her lips as she held my hand, "I didn't mean to yell. I'm sorry, Alyona. I'm not saying you don't have a right to feel the way you feel but what I'm saying is that we can talk about this and sort things out."
"My mind still hasn't changed Mom."
Her brows puckered as her eyes scrutinised my face.
"What is wrong with you?" her voice came heavy with concern.
"Aunt, she caught Greg cheating." Sofia blurted out.
Not now! I facepalmed as everyone's stares were now directed at me. What had she gotten me into? I lifted my head and we locked gazes with Sofia who gave me an apologetic look but that wasn't going to help.
Alyona
"I will be going over to grandma's for a few weeks, " I mumbled bringing an end to the silence that suddenly took over the room making everyone turn their attention to me.
"Sunshine, does this have to do with what happened? We can talk about this." Worry crossed Mom's face as she peered at me. I forced a smile on my face and put my hand on Mom's shoulder looking at her.
"I think it's best if I spend some time with Grandma, and have a change of space in the meantime."
It was best if I left the house for some time. I wasn't proud of sneaking out the house without informing anyone but I was disappointed that my Dad gifted me earrings that had trackers in them as a birthday gift. I felt embarrassed and stupid that I hadn't listened to my family when they warned me about the kind of guy Greg was.
"But.... You, " Mom started.
"Baby, just let her do what she wants. She will be fine. Moreover, she will be at Mom's place, " my Dad intervened wrapping his arms around my mom, and she nodded reluctantly.
My mom was always like that whenever one of us was going away even if it was just for a few days. It made me recall the day Adonis my older brother was leaving for Russia. Mom was so sad, she cried so much that Adonis considered staying but she insisted he went and that she was crying that much because she was going to miss him.
"Alyona you can go provided that you take your guards along," my dad let out.
Here I was thinking that I was going to be free from those men but I should have known better. One thing was sure, if I wanted to go to my grandma's I had to agree to his condition to let my bodyguards come along. I was grateful that he agreed to let me leave.
"Ok. It's not like I have a choice." I grumbled under my breath before heading to my room to get ready to leave. I was glad that no one tried to stop me because even if they did I wasn't going to change my mind since I had already made my decision.
I said my goodbyes to them after packing up my suitcase, Maya assisted me with that but Sophie didn't come to my room, and I knew it was because she thought I was mad at her for telling the family about my breakup with Greg.
"Munchkin, " Grandma raved pulling me in a warm embrace. A wide smile plastered on her face, her brown eyes sparkling with excitement as they scrutinised me.
"You've grown so big Munchkin, " she giggled enveloping me in a hug once again.
It was a thing for Grandma to always say I had grown so big even if she hadn't seen me for just a few days.
"Grandma you just said I've grown and you still called me munchkin, " I pouted when we disengaged the hug and she laughed.
"No matter how big you grow Alyona you'll always remain my Munchkin. I see you brought your soldiers with you, " she mumbled her eyes darting to my bodyguards who greeted her.
"Hello," she waved at them before turning to me.
"Yes, Granny. Dad." I sighed.
"I know, Vladivostok is doing that because he cares about you." She smiled patting my shoulder.
"Yeah, " I nodded even though I did think they were too much at least two bodyguards were going to be enough but Dad made me come with five of them. And I didn't like it, their presence always drew me a lot of attention which I wasn't a fan of.
"Let's go in, " she mumbled taking hold of my hand after she ordered one of her maids to take my luggage in.
"If you had told me you were coming I would have prepared something for you myself. "
"I wanted to surprise you Granny, and I won't like to bother you with having to cook for me. It should be the other way round."
A smile plastered on Grandma's face as she peered at me.
"Adonis will be so proud, that boy did a great job being your big brother. Also cooking my beloved Munchkin would never be a bother to me. And I'm no old lady, " she chuckled flipping her hair.
Classic Granny, she was always like that she hated being called old or being told she shouldn't do something because she was ageing. Granny was younger than her age and very beautiful, she had good genes though she was seventy she didn't look it. She had brown eyes I always admired just like mom's, long black hair, heart-shaped lips and an amazing personality.
Aunt Tati got her personality from Granny They were so similar, chatty, vibrant, free-spirited and the life of the party and such charming extroverts, unlike my mom who took after her Dad like Granny and Aunt Tati used to tell us. They said our grandfather was just like our mom, kind, peaceful calm gentle and more so a man of principles. It was unfortunate that we didn't get to meet him courtesy of the evil people who were my Mom's foster parents.
"I know Grandma. You don't have to worry about me I already had a lot to eat before coming over. Mom and Aunt Tati made a lot for us to eat before I came over and it was so delicious. They packed some for you, also everyone sent their regards. Uncle Damon, Aunt Tati, Aunt Leila, Rio, Mom, Dad, Maya, Sofia, Mason, Aunt...."
My mom and Aunt Tati made some food and they insisted I had something to eat before leaving the house.
"Lexi, Vladimir. Did something happen at the Villa? Seems like everyone was present at the mansion except me." Grandma interrupted staring at me keenly. Worry took over her features and she sat up.
"Calm down Granny, everything is ok. There was a little problem. I snuck out and didn't return until this morning. So Mom and Dad got worried and everyone came over, I'm sure they didn't tell you because they didn't want you to worry." I explained but the expression on Grandma's face made me feel that this was going to be a long discussion. She hated it whenever the family hid anything from her.
"What happened? Are you ok?" She asked getting off the couch she was sitting on and scooted to me draping her hands around me in a hug.
She cupped my cheeks after she pulled away from the hug.
I narrated the scenes of yesterday's event not leaving any part out to her, I had not told anyone about all that happened yesterday yet but I needed to share it with her. She was super furious on hearing what Greg did but she didn't look surprised when I told her he cheated on me with Alice. She said she had always suspected the two when she saw them hugging each other during my birthday party but I countered it saying it was just a friendly hug. Now that I thought of it I could only see how dumb I was, but thankfully not anymore.
Grandma couldn't help but sing praises of the guy who saved me though at first she feared that he might have taken advantage of me but I assured her he didn't. She went on and on hoping that we would cross paths someday and who knows maybe I could fall in love with my knight in hoodie as she dubbed him.
"My goodness, I'm glad you are safe. Those men who harassed you, did you let your dad know about them?"
"No, " I shook my head and her eyes widened.
Her brows furrowed and sighed in confusion, " Why? You could be in danger. What if the man you told me hadn't saved you In time? And what if they try to hurt you again."
"It won't happen I tell you, Granny, I don't think I was their target maybe it just kinda happened. Don't worry Granny I'll be fine, " I assured smiling.
"I hope so but still why did no one tell me what was going on? I'm going to call..."
"Granny, this is why they didn't want to tell you because they knew this was going to be your reaction if not worse. I'm fine now and it is all that matters. Also, I brought you delicious food prepared by your loving daughters, " I giggled changing the topic of conversation. I got off the couch and sauntered to the table picking up the basket which had the food mom and Aunt Tati had sent before walking back to where Grandma was and placing the basket on the table which was in front of her I opened the food.
"This smells so good, " Grandma sniffed in the air as the aroma of the food filled the room.
"It does, and it is also very delicious."
"Looks like you aren't as filled as you said you were, " Grandma joked seeing how my eyes were fixed on the food.
I felt a tinge of embarrassment but covered it up with a smile and quickly scooted taking a sit beside grandma. Here I was so interested in eating the food that was sent for Grandma even after eating a lot at home but it was just so hard to get enough of mom's and Aunt Tati's cooking.
"Don't worry we'll eat it together. You don't have to feel embarrassed Munchkin, " Grandma grinned pinching my cheeks playfully.
We spent time catching up, she told me a lot of stories about how things were with her and how a man she met a few days ago wanted her to go out with him and she turned him down saying her time to do that kind of stuff had passed. I told her to consider it but she said she couldn't, she said no one could take the place of Grandpa in her life, and she wasn't just ready to mingle in that way. I just had to drop the topic when I realised I wasn't going to be able to convince her.
Days Later....
Today was Monday and I was already on my way to College. During the weekend Sofia sent me a message apologising for telling the family about my breakup but I told her it was okay. It was better that way at least, I wouldn't have to deal with telling them myself. It was dauntingly unbelievable that Greg had the guts to call me several times and send meaningless messages. When I got sick of the number of his calls on my phone, I blocked him but it didn't seem to help as he called me with an unknown number number. And when I picked up and heard his voice, I blocked the number and decided not to pick up any more calls from unknown numbers.
Grandma left earlier for the foundation after we had breakfast together. Grandma ran a foundation which centred on helping orphans, less privileged, and whoever needed help.
I was a bit anxious about having to face Greg and Alice, but Grandma noticed and told me that I didn't need to worry about them. I just had to focus on myself, she said if I was still tensed then I could skip school for a few days until I was ready. I made up my mind not to do that it was only going to make them feel they had the upper hand, now I was going to beat them at their own game.
I stepped out of the car and turned to my guards.
"Do you guys have to follow me?" I frowned.
"Sorry, but it's your dad's instruction." The leader Marcus mumbled bowing slightly.
"I've told you a lot of times, you don't have to bow when talking to me." I sighed.
Marcus and I were just about the same age or maybe he was a few years older if I wasn't mistaken, so him bowing when talking to me made me feel like one of those spoilt and bratty princesses.
Knowing fully well no amount of ranting or complaining was going to stop these men from following me around, I decided to just let them do their thing. As always, all eyes were on me as they followed me, I did my best to ignore the disdainful stares, and admiring looks I got mostly from the guys who would stay at me like I was some kind of ice cream they couldn't wait to lick.
"Baby, Alyona."
That voice! The voice that once sounded like sweet music to my ears sounded like the buzzing of bees. Greg! Why the hell was he calling after me? I couldn't help but look in the direction of the voice, there he was coming from the other side with Alice behind him calling out to him but he was ignoring her.
I looked away and fastened my footsteps, I was in no mood to talk to that guy. I knew how it was going to be, he would come up to me and then try to give all manner of excuses and justifications for what he did or fake remorse, and then plead with me to take him back.
"Alyona, " Greg purred trying to reach for my hands as he got to me but he couldn't because two of my bodyguards who were beside me bundled him up immediately.
I took a halt and veered to face him.
A peal of laughter left my lips as I beheld the fear in his eyes as he stood between those men. Did he really think it was the same as those days when my bodyguards wouldn't do anything to him because of me?
"Alyona, won't you tell them to let go of me?" His voice came out in stutters as he tried to free himself from their grip.
"Marcus, Axel let go of him."
The men let go of him immediately after I was done speaking, and he fell to the ground.
"Ah, " he winced in pain. His girlfriend came running to him. She squatted in front of him trying to help him up but he pushed her away tilting up his head to gaze at me.
I chuckled, Greg was really insane if he did think that I was going to help him.
"How could you let them treat him like this!" Alice snarlstraighteninging herself from the ground to face me.
My lips pressed together as I watched her rant like a deranged person who fled from an asylum.
"You are not going to say a word right? Just because your father is wealthy doesn't give you the right to treat people like trash."
Alice scowled at me like a warrior would leer at her rival at a battleground with so much hatred in her eyes but I wasn't moved rather I felt sorry for her. It was a good thing I finally got to know she was just a wolf in sheep's clothing.
"Let's go, " I mumbled to my bodyguards and they nodded.
Just as I took steps forward away from Alice, I felt a hand push me and I plunged forward expecting to fall but instead, I collided with someone and a pair of hands wrapped around my waist holding me tightly.
I lifted my head slowly when I finally regained myself, my hands were on the chest of a guy as I held onto him for support. The first three buttons of his shirt were undone when I looked closely there were no buttons in sight. Staring down my eyes caught three buttons that lay scattered on the floor. I figured I was responsible for it seeing how my hands were on his chest. I took my hands off immediately. My eyes darted to his face, he had thick well-carved brows, and his pair of emerald green eyes looked really familiar, the man who saved me that night. I couldn't stop myself as my eyes lingered down his face to his perfectly fitted nose which highlighted his finely carved chin, and his luscious lips that extended to his Alluring chiselled jaw.
"Done drooling over me?"
His husky deep voice which brought goosebumps to my skin drifted me out of my drooling session.
This man was a beautiful Greek god!
