MYSTERY PREGNANCY

Amanda felt water all over her body the moment she woke from the nightmare, or was it sweat? She couldn't say.

Then, she sighed, she was glad it was only a dream, a dream she could not translate, she was not used to having dreams, why was she dreaming all of a sudden?

But there was something significant about the dream she just had, in the dream she was light, free and very strong. She tried to remember what made her feel that way, she hit her head, as if that would make her remember, she looked around her, she saw her husband, sleeping next to her, he was definitely restless, but why was she so light in the dream, that she could even run? then she remembered, It was not so hard to note, she wasn't pregnant in the dream, but she was being chased by someone she couldn't really remember, she tried to sit up on the bed and she felt all heavy, looking down she sighed in a dejected way.

She looked up at God, why would he allow things like this to happen to her, she has suffered enough, and she didn't deserve what she was going through.

What was her sin actually? That God will decide to punish her in such a manner?

She was dejected indeed, and really unhappy because the question she continued to ask herself over and over again have not been answered, she was supposed to have the answer to her question, but yet she, like every other person, does not have the answer to the question, she was supposed to be happy and sharing the happy moments with her husband Dave, who still managed to sleep close to her, but they are more like world's apart.

She is pregnant but she couldn't tell who was responsible.

She is even ashamed to say it out loud. How can a grown up woman like her, claim she doesn't know who impregnated her, even a teenager would know, let alone an adult. It made her feel like a prostitute,

It was a mystery pregnancy.

One may ask how can it be mysterious when you have a husband?

but the story have only begun.

Because even she also belives, that her husband Dave, was not telling her the truth.

Getting married to Dave was something Amanda didn't regret, because Dave was everything she could ever want, he was wonderful and he genuinely cares for her. Though at first she was using Dave as a substitute or a rebound, since she couldn't reach the love of her life, the one person she could beat her chest and say she truely loves.

That one man, whom she and her only brother sent to prison few years ago. She knew she still felt something strong for Dave, especially since Dave was able to fight with his family just to be with her.

It is really funny how a family can just hate you without any reason, they would not want you as a member of their family, for all the wrong reasons.

But Dave, he fought for her, and ensured no harm came her way, she felt really loved and wanted but looking at him now, she knew she couldn't possible ask for that devotion to their marriage, Dave was shattered and obviously not happy, he would always stare at her with disdain and so much hate, but how could she even blame him? After all she had starved him sexually, she hadn't been a very understanding wife to him then out of the blues she became pregnant.

She could remember that after the first year of their marriage and she became pregnant, she was overjoyed. Dave was particularly very happy and made sure she didn't stress herself very much, he pampered her and treated her like a Queen, but all the happiness was shattered to dust when she was due and was sent to the labour room, she was there for hours, the baby refused to come out, she had never experienced such extreme pain before, she was so scared and worried, all her antenatal training couldn't be remembered at that point, she just wanted it all to be over, she wanted to be free from the pain, but it wasn't going away instead it became more Intense, then she was told she would be operated on, she wasn't especially happy about the turn of events, she was sad, she didn't want her first child to be born via a C-section but at that point, she had no choice, she wanted it to be over. Consent form was signed by her husband and the process started.

"I am scared". She confessed, Dave was there with her, he was being really supportive, holding her hands, and trying to make her feel they could do it together.

"Very soon, it will be over, don't worry". He assured her, and he watched with tears in her eyes, as they cut her open, in a vertical way, and brought the baby out.

The Epidural injection taken could not allow her take note of anything, she was conscious, but she had tears in her eyes.

This is not how she had planned to have her first baby, or any of her babies for that matter, but since it has happened like this, what choice, does she have.

After 45minute or thereabouts in the operating room, Amanda opened her eyes, she could hear the cry of the baby.

"He is beautiful". Dave exclaimed, as he held the baby. She smiled and wanted to hold him too, she wanted to share in the joy of the moment.

Amanda, was finally able to hold her baby boy after waiting for Dave to satisfy himself, with him.

At that moment, Amanda's joy, knew no bounds. She fell in love instantly with him.

Though she was very weak, and couldn't sit up, she still wanted to keep her eyes open, she wanted to just keeping seeing her baby boy, but her body failed her.

She passed out from weakness. when she woke up the first thing she wanted to do was to hold her baby, she wanted to hold her baby and to ask him loads of questions, but she was greeted with yet another shocker.

her baby was dead.

The death of her son was a big blow to her, she could not believe he was actually dead.

"What happened to him? She kept asking, but no one was giving her an answer, she looked around her, still wishing she could get an answer, but the pain in her heart seem too much for her to even think straight at the time.

The doctors all came up with one thing or the other, they always have something to say, she looked around her, but all she could see was sorry faces.

It is indeed true, her child whom she held a while ago, was dead.

She blamed herself for falling asleep, she probably should never have fallen asleep.

She tried to scream, but each time she opens her mouth, the sharp pain in her stomach would shut her up immediately. She had no choice, but to sob calmly.

Not wanting to think about what happened in the past, Amanda tries to move on, but she just couldn't get past it as the past reflected her present and would probably determine her future.

She could remember vividly that the moment she heard about the death of her son, she couldn't cry, the pain in her heart was too much, she held her chest as if to calm the ache she felt from there, she tried to scream and wail but the pain from the cut was overwhelming she just allowed the tears that she didn't know had form around her eye drop, she stared at her husband as if waiting for a different answer from him but he only nodded and also allowed a year drop on his Brown T.shirt.

She had heard this type of thing before, she always thought it was unfair if God allows such a thing to happen to anyone, but now she was in such situation.

This is so not fair, no one should ever go through a thing like that.

She had waited for years, and endured so much, and finally, when she is supposed to enjoy herself, and play with her child, she lost him to the cold hands of death.

She remembered her friend Joy from secondary school whom she recently got in contact with through Facebook, she had also gone through the same thing C-section but she atleast went home with her child, she had been sad when she was told she would have her baby through a C-section but now she couldn't even think of the pain because her baby was with her.

She needed a consolation, she wish she could reach out to all her friends, especially her other friend called Joy, she would always know what to say to her, but somehow, Amanda felt she was alone in the world.

She allowed her tears flow freely, she couldn't stop herself from crying, it was just too much, for her to handle.

BACK TO PRESENT SITUATION.

Amanda sobbed calmly not wanting to wake Dave who was sleeping, she didn't want him to start scolding her because since she became mysteriously pregnant, Dave had become a nightmare, he even refused to divorce her just to hunt her and purnish her for starving him all those months.

The child she lost was only nine month old in heaven and here she was already three month pregnant.

HOW DID I GET PREGNANT?

Was the question she continued to ask herself.

She remembered two month ago when she started to feel sick especially in the early hours of the day and even at nights, she was so worried that she continued to take self medication thinking it was malaria or something, but it only got worse.

Dave had forcefully taken her to the hospital for a proper checkup.

"I am fine, it will go away". She told him, trying to convince him, that she is fine, bit he insisted, and made sure, that he didn't go to work on that day, just to take him to the hospital, himself.

" Congratulations Sir, your wife is 3weeks pregnant". The gynecologist said extending a hand to Dave who looked like he just got the shock of his life, he stared at the doctor's hands as though it was infected with some kind of disease, he looked from the doctor to the hand and then his gaze finally met with his wife and she had same look with him.

After few minutes of silence, Amanda burst laughing and clapping at the same time. But the doctor looked indifferent. This was not April, and he couldn't be playing pranks on them. Or was it Halloween? It would just be too much, if it was any of that.

She couldn't stop laughing, she even held her stomach as she laughed at the doctor, who stood transfixed.

After a while, Dave also joined in the laugh, now the doctor was confused, then he remembered that he had met similar situation, where couples, who have tried for a while get such positive news, never believed it at first. the doctor felt they were trying couple, and wasn't expecting a positive report as it was his first time attending to them, and he didnt know their medical history, so he went further to explain.

"It is ok to be surprised and shocked, infact I get that look all the time from couples who have probably tried for sometime, but I must tell you it is real, and you just need to accept it as God's way to reward your marriage".

Dave's look darkened as he listened to the doctor. his sternly gazed, at his wife and it began to Dawn on him that while his wife was rejecting his advances she was making out, and having fun with someone else, he couldn't wait to hear the rest of what the doctor had to say, he picked up his car keys from the doctor's table and taking a final look at his wife he left without saying a word.

Amanda was as confused but she could only think of one thing at that time so she ran after him but was met with the exiting structure of his Mercedes Benz as he zoomed off.

'Such weird couple's". The doctor thought to himself and was about to open another file when his door opened again and Amanda walked back in looking Curious.

How the hell did I get pregnant?

The doctor was taken aback at her question, he gave her a confused look and since her expression didn't change, his suspicion was confirmed.

This was really one mysterious couple, maybe they are not part of this world, or have mental problems,else, why would a full grown woman be asking him such stupid question. Doesn't she have knowledge of atleast the basic biology?

How the hell, was he supposed to answer that 'oh madam, that strange young man that just left here, inserted his penis into your vagina and in the process his semen was released and you became pregnant' such dumb question from a dumb woman.

He almost said that out loud, but didn't want to offend the distressed looking woman infront of him, and so he tried to fake a smile.

Noticing his confused look Amanda understood that she hasn't asked the right question, so she stepped into the office and shut the door to give them some privacy.

" I mean how can I be pregnant when I haven't had sex with my husband?

Now the doctor looked confused, and sat on his chair, could this be another virgin Mary Case, definitely not.

looking at Amanda she didn't look like a virgin and was surely not naive, so what was she trying to claim?

He calmed himself and ushered her the seat, she was occupying a while ago.

How do you mean? He asked looking all the more confused but curious.

Amanda accepted his invitation and placed her hands on his table as if showing him she wasn't hiding anything.

I haven't allowed my husband touch me since I lost my baby.

At least she wasn't a virgin and this was no mysterious case but maybe spiritual. The doctor thought to himself. He was really interested in the case, he searched her face, as if he would know, if she was telling a lie.

"What baby are you talking about Mrs......He tried to get her name again.

Mrs Dave, but you can call me Amanda.

No Mrs Dave is fine. So what baby are you talking about? He asked the question again, and Amanda took a deep breath, before answering him.

I had my first child via a C-section and I lost him to jaundice.

That is what the doctors told me.

I was devastated and an emotional wreck, at the time, and I still am. plus I wasn't very happy that I had him with operation, I wanted to try for a Vbac of which my doctor said I must have to stay for at least two years or more, if I must try for a Vbac. So I ensured I didn't allow my husband touch me.

Why didn't you go for a family plan or even use a condom, why deny your husband of sexual pleasure, how would you feel if he gets frustrated and gets it from someone else? The doctor was getting even more interested in the case, as he relaxed his back, after asking her the question.

She sure knows about condoms and family plan, so why would she want to abstain, when she could still have it the other way.

Amanda had not really thought about it that way, for Dave to cheat on her was something she hadn't really tried to imagine, she was aware he loves to have sex, but he was very faithful to their marriage and would never cheat on her, if he would take 2years to wait he would.

She quickly dismissed the thought of Dave cheating and went further to answering the other question about the family plan.

I have always had my doubts about family plan, I really don't want anything to change my system and I don't want to get fat unnecessarily as I have seen it happen to some people, so it wasn't an option.

About using Condom, I learnt it could fail and knowing my husband he could be really rough sometimes, what if his force tears off the rubber? So I just decided to abstain".

She ended it there, not wanting to go further.

It was no lie, that Dave was a sex machine, and he could actually remove the condom himself, if he feels it is disturbing him.

"So you mean you didn't sleep with your husband all those times? The doctor asked, as if suspecting her, that she was sleeping with another man.

"I didn't". Was the simple answer she gave and she looked down as if feeling guilty about it. But the doctor, misunderstood her signs for something else, that he asked.

Did you sleep with someone else? He was hoping she would not feel embarrassed about the question, but the way she looked up scared him.

His question forced her to look up at him with eyes wide open, she blinked many times before trying to open her mouth to talk.

What was this doctor saying, was he accusing her of cheating on Dave? She thought to herself.

No! She exclaimed, ' I could never cheat on my husband, I have never even thought of it. Weren't you listening?

I was trying to abstain from having sex I didn't want story of any sort. I couldn't cheat on my husband he is very good in bed, if you think I got bored with him? Then you need to think again. He was very ready to give it to me at will. And he sure knows how to spice it up at every point in time.

Amanda was explaining herself so much that the doctor regretted asking her such question.

"I get it Mrs Dave I am just trying to unravel this mystery". He raised his hands to surrender.

"Well if you didn't sleep with your husband or anyone else? Then maybe your husband raped you".

"What?

No way! She exclaimed, thinking of the possibility.

Dave cannot do that, he is too decent to behave in such a manner".

Now the doctor was angry but was still trying to stay calm.

"You said it yourself Mrs Dave, your husband loves sex and you have done nothing but deny him for the past six or seven month and he doesn't seem like someone who would cheat on you, then he must have raped you to get himself satisfied, and you couldn't have known because he probably drugged you".

Amanda seem to be following, because she almost looked convinced, and the doctor on the other hand, started to feel like a detective. One could see he was really proud, of the proof, he was able to come up with.

Now the doctor was making sense, Dave really loves sex and he must have gotten tired of asking her for it, and decided to rape her instead, her face darkened, she was really angry, she thanked the doctor and without another word she left his office, opened the Uber app on her phone to get one and in less than five minute a black spot car was infront of her, she slowly got into the passengers seat, giving him her location and watched as he typed it in and the voice from the map could be heard they drove slowly towards her home.

She opened the door to her house which wasn't locked to show that someone was inside, she wasn't surprised to see Dave looking all worried. He must think she is a fool, she walked in, shut the door behind her, and asked the question she had in her mind, from the moment she got out of the doctors office.

Dave, did you rape me?
