Chapter 1 THEIR NORMAL ROUTINE

You bitch! Where the fuck were you all this time, and why is our food not ready?

"You foolish child, can't you just do things at the right time?

You can see him standing with his wife and son in the living room as he yelled at a small, shaking figure in front of him.

"Can't you speak? you moron! He screamed again.

But the little shaking figure was too scared to say anything; she knew if she said anything, she might make him angrier.

All she had to do was wait to get hit, just like every other day.

He went close to her, and before she knew it, he smacked her across the face and kicked her in the abdomen. The girl screamed, but no one was there to save her. Her mom and brother always ignore it whenever her dad hits her. They all abuse her; it has always been like that. Get beaten for any little thing and also for what is not her fault.

Welcome to the world of the Daniels; they are back to their normal daily routine. A family of four. The father, mother, and their two kids A boy of Twenty-one years old and a girl of nineteen years old.

"Dad, I am so sorry. My boss increased my shift by two more hours because I mistakenly splashed coffee on someone. I will go make it now." She replied painfully, rushing to the kitchen so she wouldn't receive another beating in her life, but she was wrong. This was just the beginning; he continued hitting and kicking her till she began to spit out blood.

She just continues to beg for mercy at the hands of the person she called her father, but he wasn't ready to listen. Well, her name is Selena Daniel.

She is a nineteen-year-old girl. She has always been abused since she was five. What just happened to her a few minutes ago is little compared to what has always happened to her, so she is used to it.

She has promised to continue bearing the pains given to her until she can move out. She has been gathering the money she receives from her part-time jobs. She works in different places, but she didn't allow her family to know that.

She knows that if that happens, she won't be able to do so anymore. She finished high school, which was not quite long. She has always been a quiet girl; she didn't have a friend throughout her high school life, and she never tried to, because if her family knows she talks to anyone in school, she's going to be in big trouble, so to avoid it, she doesn't.

They have a reputation to protect, so they can't let anyone know about what is going on behind their doors.

She was called the school mute throughout her high school life. Some students she ignored when they tried to make friends with her later became her worst nightmare.

They think she is proud; that's why she keeps ignoring them. Her high school life was not an easy one, but she still managed to scrape through.

Her dad is a well-known medical lab scientist in City X, and her mom is also a well-known model. Despite them being rich, Selena still does a part-time job to fend for herself. They never let the world know they had a daughter, so they turned her into the maid in the house.

They made her do different types of work even though she is just a nineteen-year-old girl.

They didn't want her to go to college or university because they thought it'd be a waste of cash and a disadvantage to them.

But with her being a girl with determination, she promised herself she was going to move out of the hell known as a house and go to the university to study her dream course.

Still holding her tummy and spitting out blood, she ran to the kitchen to quickly make the food asked for by her parents.

She knows there is not much time for her, so she made easy fast food so she wouldn't stay long.

Not long after, the food was ready, and she quickly went to arrange the food for the dinner. She went to her parents and brother to tell them the food was ready and ran back to the kitchen to clean up the little mess she made while cooking. If her mom steps into the kitchen and notices a single stain, she will be dead.

After she was done cleaning the kitchen, she used the opportunity of them being in the dining room to go clean up their rooms, including her brother's.

She took their dirty clothes to the laundry and washed them. Minutes later, she went back to the dining room to pack their dirty dishes up and go wash them. By the time she was done doing all those things, doing those things wasn't easy for her because she was feeling a lot of pain, but she couldn't avoid it because she was going to put herself in more trouble if she didn't do it.

It was already 2 a.m.; she just had three more hours to sleep, so for her not to waste much time, she quickly went to her room to have her sleep.

Her room is behind the mansion, a little room with a bad rooftop, a bad door, and a little mattress; the floor isn't even covered with carpet.

She always prays there shouldn't be rainfall; otherwise, she won't be having a good sleep for a whole week. If care is not taken, she can be attacked in her room. But since it is inside their compound, it's kind of safe for her to live there.

Getting to her room, she took off her blood-stained clothes and took a cold bath to rinse off her blood-stained body. She winced as she took her bath. When she came out of her bathroom, she did some dressing on her wounds, put on new clothes, and slept off.

SELENA POV

"Dad! I am sorry; it won't happen ever again. I promise not to do so again." I begged him not to hurt me.

"You bitch, it would be better if you never came into my life. It won't be this messed up." He yelled at me, still pointing a silver gun at me.

His life is a mess. For crying out loud, I haven't once disturbed him to get me the necessary things I need. I have a part-time job to fend for myself.

Apart from paying my fees in high school, he never does anything else for me. Then how the heck did I mess up his life?

"Dad, please, I am sorry," I begged him, still wailing.

"Everything will go back to normal if you are no longer in the picture." He said it again, pulling the trigger. I waited for it to get through me and make me end this useless life I have been living.

"Haa!"

I screamed, Thank goodness; it was just a nightmare. I do have it all the time, so I am used to it. I checked the time, and it was already fifteen minutes past five. I don't have much time left.

I quickly rushed to the mansion before they were up; if I don't do so fast, I am going to be in deep trouble. Getting to the mansion, I dashed to the kitchen to make their breakfast.

A few minutes later, I heard someone come down the stairs. I dare not look back. So I continued doing my chores.

"Bitch, where is my blue shirt?" I heard my brother ask me. Oh God, I just washed it yesterday. I am so dead.

"It isn't dried yet," I told him indirectly. I know this isn't going to end here this morning.

"What the fuck does that mean?" He asked me furiously, dashing toward me. Oh my, I am so dead; he is not going to take it likely with me. I tried to run past him, but with the pain I am still feeling from yesterday's beating, I couldn't do so, and he was also close to me already.

Before I knew it, he pushed me against the wall and kicked me. I knew I couldn't escape it anymore, so I just covered my face and continued receiving the hits. I didn't scream or make a sound. I promised myself not to ever cry in front of them anymore. They don't deserve to see my tears.

He continued kicking and punching me till he was stopped by mom.

"It's enough, James. You don't want her to die in our house, do you? She asked, picking on her nails. People do say that no matter what, your mom is going to stand by you and protect you. But my mom is the exact opposite of that.

"She is just a bitch, mom; I can't let her go that way! Imagine she just washed the shirt I planned to wear today." He yelled, still kicking me with every opportunity he got.

"Just let her go, dear; don't waste your time on the tramp. You can go take my credit card and get a new shirt, my prince," Mum said, which made him stop hitting me and go to hug her happily.

"Thanks, mom; you are the best," he said while hugging her. He threw me one more glare before leaving.

"Bitch, where is our food?" Mom asked me, glaring at me with her green eyeballs. Apart from the same eye color I share with her, I look nothing like any of them. She has blonde hair and tanned skin, while Dad has brown hair and fair skin, and James has brown eyes and brown hair.

I have pale skin and ginger-red hair, just like Grandma. I love my grandma so much; she gets me anything I need, as she has pampered me a lot. I remember how I would cause a lot of scenes and throw tantrums if she didn't get me what I wanted.

I have always known my parents don't love me since I was three years old, but my grandma would tell me they love me and that they are going through some things that explain why they behave coldly toward me.

I lived with her till she passed away. She died when I was five, and I could recall vividly that my parents started abusing me the night my grandma passed away. I hate them so much.

Chapter 2 NEW LIFE

"Boo!" I heard someone scream behind me. He was expecting me to freak out, but I didn't. I just stared at him weirdly and walked inside the cafe.

"For once, Selena, try to pretend as if you are shocked, or, should I say, try to reply to humans when we talk to you," Jason said to me. He has been trying to make me talk to him. But I don't. He even does different things to make me talk to him. I just left him standing there and went to change my dress.

And I slipped. I winced not because I fell down but because my bruised part touched the ground.

"Yay, and the freak is back." I heard cheers. I stood up from the ground, cleaned my worn-out dress, and went to the closet to change it. It has become the norm for me. Beatrice and Jenny always do all sorts of things to hurt me because Jason talks only to me. Well, I don't mind since I am always abused at home. I no longer see it as pain.

I changed my dress to cafe wear, still putting on my pop socks and scarf around my neck. I don't show any part of my body outside since it's full of bruises. I don't want to be asked questions about why I cover up another reason to be called a freak. Thank goodness when they hit me, they don't touch my face.

I came out of the changing room, started my day, and ignored both girls glaring at me.

Not quite long ago, people began rushing in. I and Jenny are in charge of serving the customers, and I trust that sometimes it becomes a total disaster. I hope it doesn't happen today. We heard the bell ring again, signaling that more people were coming in. Today is going to be a busy day.

After my shift ended in the cafe, I collected my pay from my boss. I went to my next job, which is the library. I enjoy working here most because I get the opportunity to read some books without my boss knowing because she is not going to like them. Getting there, I saw my boss rushing out with her dress already changed.

"Oh, thank God you are finally here; I am running late," she said, and she ran out.

Hmm, I breathe in the smell of books. Damn, I love it a lot. I am an art student, and I have always loved reading books on history. I planned to study history and international studies if I ever got the opportunity to become a student in college.

I wanted to check on the books to read, but a book drew my attention to it: "MIRACULOUS WOLF." I was suddenly drawn towards the book, but I stopped myself. Why should I believe in things that are not real? My grandma does tell me stories about them, and they all end up being interesting, but I didn't feel like reading them. I just went for another historical book; it won't be bad to try this one. I took it and went to the front seat so I could enjoy it and also be observant about who went in and out.

I was so focused that I didn't know when the four-hour shift was over. Thank goodness I set an alarm on my phone. I quickly went to return the book, having in mind that I was going to continue the next day. I handed the shop to the next person having her shift by this time and left the library.

Leaving the library, I felt someone gaze at me. I checked my environment to see if anyone was staring at me, but I didn't see anyone doing so. I was kind of scared, but I didn't show it. I decided to walk fast since I was still feeling the stars.

Finally, I was able to get to the restaurant. I changed into my uniform and was about to go take orders when my boss called me to tell me he couldn't allow me to work here anymore. "Sir, did I do anything wrong?" I asked, almost crying. "Do you want me to explain the reason why you can no longer work here?" He asked me, getting irritated. I breathed in and out and walked out of his office. I quickly went to change my dress so I could leave the restaurant.

"I do get fired from most of my part-time jobs because the customers complain a lot about me dressing weirdly and not talking to them.

I decided to move around first to breathe in the fresh air before going to the mansion. I never call it home since it isn't home to me.

A few hours later, I decided it was time I went to hell and called the mansion, and I started feeling the same gaze on me again. I quickly took the bus so I could feel at ease, but it didn't work. Immediately after I went to my stop, I rushed out of the bus, running straight to the house.

Getting into the compound, I was kind of happy. I went to my comfort zone. I was shocked. My whole room was a mess. What happened here? I quickly rushed to the place where I keep my money, and it was still there. I checked the box given to me by my grandma also.

I am very sure that stupid brother of mine is behind this. I was kind of angry. What the hell? I rushed into the house and was met with two strange faces, along with dad and mom. They looked shocked at me when I came in.

"What are you doing here?" Dad screamed at me. "I came to make dinner; I am sorry I distracted you." I quickly said that and turned to walk out quickly.

"You can go, cook; the guest needs to eat, you know," Mum said, glaring at me.

I rushed into the kitchen to do the cooking. When I was done, I decided to take the food to the dining room before calling them, but I was shocked when I heard what they were discussing.

I heard my dad say they are going to make me sleep in the mansion today since my room isn't in good condition, then they can come to pick me up when I am asleep. What the heck? Which father does that to his child? I was shocked. I can't allow this to happen, so I need to be fast with my plan. Perhaps I am also going to leave the house tonight.

I pretended as if nothing happened, went to drop off their food, cleaned the kitchen, and told them their food was ready. I was about to leave when I heard one of the strangers ask if I wouldn't join them. I declined them immediately and dashed out of the mansion.

Getting to my room, I packed my necessary documents, money, and also my grandma's box. I couldn't leave it; she has always told me to keep it with me no matter what. One day I am going to find some answers in it. She also made me promise not to ever open the box until I am twenty, which will soon be two months away.

I was about to leave the room when I heard someone clap behind me. Oh my God, my cover is blown. But one thing is for sure: tonight I will leave this house, and nothing's going to stop me. I quickly removed my pocket knife from my bag and hid it in my pocket. That was close. I nearly forgot it. I turned to see the intruder and saw James.

"Bitch, are you running away without even telling your lovely brother? It's not fair, you know." I didn't reply to him; I just held my small bag tightly. He came close to me.

"You haven't answered my question, bitch." I used the opportunity of him being close to me, kicked him where his sun didn't shine, and stabbed his two legs. He screamed in pain. I ran out of the room and went straight to the gate. I met with the security and told him I was sent to get some things from the market. He didn't believe me at first, but I convinced him that I was telling the truth.

Then he finally allowed me to go out. I didn't waste any more time. I ran immediately. I don't even know where I was going, but one thing is for sure: I need to leave this city today so they don't find me.

I was in the room still crying about my grandma's death when my mom came into my room and screamed at me to stop crying. I should pack my things because I was going to start living with them that day. When I refused, my dad slapped me so hard that I saw stars that day. I first thought my dad hit me because I did something bad. But no, it wasn't; it has continued from that day onward; they hit me for any little mistakes and sometimes for no reason at all.

"It's in the dining room," I told her, trying to stand. She didn't look at me for one second before going to the dining room. I wince in pain.

I quickly finish my chores for the day and dash to my little comfort zone outside the mansion. I couldn't wait for more beatings. If my dad also meets me downstairs, he is going to find one thing or another to beat me. I got to my room and quickly cleaned my wound, dressed up, and went to my place of work.

On my way there, I felt my stomach rumble, and damn it, I forgot to take my breakfast. I will take some when I get to the coffee shop.

I work in a coffee shop for the first five hours, then I go to the library, where I always spend four hours. Then I go to my last part-time job, where I deliver pizzas to different houses. My parents only know I work in the coffee shop. And I would like to keep it that way.

I put on a mask so people wouldn't recognize me. I went to the train station I paid for, got my ticket, and was told it was going to leave soon. I was more than happy to go on the train, still being vigilant about my environment. Not long after our journey started, I watched as I left the city. I spent nineteen years of my life with my face filled with tears. Two hours later, I noticed I was sleeping. I tried to stay awake but couldn't, so I finally blacked out, praying that when I woke up it would be in a new city.

______NEXT DAY_______

I opened my eyes when I felt someone tapping me. I stared at him, confused, and then he asked for my ticket. I showed it to him, and he checked it and gave it back to me. "Welcome to City Y. I hope you have a nice time here," he said, moving to the next person behind me. I saw some people moving out of the train, signaling that we had to our destination, I came down from the bus, breathing in the air. "I hope this city is going to be nice to me," I mumbled to myself.

I have been wandering around for the past five hours trying to find a cheap place to stay, but I couldn't find any. I went into a classy restaurant and decided to get some food. I tried to find somewhere cheap but couldn't. I went into the restaurant and saw it to be very quiet. I went to order the food I needed. It was quite expensive, but I decided to take it since I would find a new job tomorrow. I promised myself I was going to be in my best way in this new city. I can't let anyone call me a freak anymore.

A few minutes later, the food was brought to me. I ate in a hurry because I hadn't eaten anything since two days ago. After I was done, I went to get coffee and left the restaurant.

I was still looking for a place to sleep that night.

Still walking, I began to check my bag for my phone without watching where I was going. I hit someone and poured the whole coffee I was holding onto them. I heard the person say he must be a guy. For God's sake, Selena, is this what you are going to start your new life with?

"Oh my God, are you okay? For fuck sake, watch where you are going, miss." I heard someone scream at me.

I fell to the floor, too scared to look up. Then I saw him coming closer to me, and I kept moving back, but he didn't stop coming closer. He brought his hands close to my face, and I flinched. I covered my face so he wouldn't hit me. I waited for a few minutes but didn't feel anything touch me. I look up to see the most handsome man on this planet, with hurt visible in his eyes. The coffee must have burned him badly.

"I am sorry I wasn't being watchful; please forgive me; it won't repeat itself," I said, almost with tears. But I didn't feel any movement from him. What is wrong? Why isn't he saying anything? Some minutes later, he came closer again and hugged me, sniffing my hair. I tried to push him away for two reasons: one because he was holding the part of my body that was hurting, and two. After all, I don't know him. But I couldn't do so because he was stronger than me. "I am sorry, but you are kind of crossing your limit," I told him. The next word he said changed my life forever.

Disengaging from me, his eyeballs were now deep blue and were shining brightly.

"Mine!!!"

Chapter 3 WHO ARE YOU

"Mine!"

I stared at him, confused. I saw the guy with him stare in shock at him, and he was looking at me weirdly.

"You meant what you just said?" I heard the guy ask him again.

"Excuse me, but I don't understand you. I am not a possession, so you can't own me, man. Please, I am sorry for not watching my steps."

I said I was moving away from him. Who the heck? Just seeing someone for the first time and feeling like owning the person

With what I said, it looks like it made him regain himself, as if he was just realizing what he also did. His expression changed to that of confusion at first, which disappeared quickly just as it came. His face was back to normal, and his eyeballs went back to normal. What the heck? How did he do that so fast?

"Who are you?" He asked bitterly.

"Hello, you were the one who embraced me, and now you ask who I am? I said it under my breath. I am not that used to talking, so I couldn't say it out loud. I was just glaring at him, and when I saw no one was talking, I decided to make the first move.

"Well, I will be on my way then," I said, and I was about to walk away from him when he grabbed my hands and asked if I felt any kind of connection. Truly, I kind of felt a spark when he touched me, and it felt right. But I am not going to say anything to him. "I didn't miss, and please let me go," I begged.

But he didn't listen. The next thing he did was pull me toward him and then throw me over his shoulder with ease.

"What the heck? Where are you taking me?" I nearly cried.

But he wasn't saying anything; the guy with him also followed. I looked around, but everyone was minding their business; they didn't even know someone was getting kidnapped.

What the heck have I gotten myself into? When I saw that no one else could come to my rescue except myself, I did what a reasonable person would do. I bit him hard, and it made him kind of tense, but it didn't help. I didn't stop wiggling; I was also screaming for help, but it wasn't heard. Not long after I saw a black-tinted car pull up close to us, he put me down and told me to go in, like, heck, I would do what he wanted. He can't just order me to do something for him.

I felt like my hands had gotten to where my pocket knife was. I was about to draw it out so I could attack him, but he was fast enough to hold my hands and smirk. "You are slow," he said, snickering. "Get into the car," he said again. "Never, I won't," I mumbled, folding my hands against my shirt. "Then you asked for this." Before I could ask him what he meant by that, he shoved me roughly into the car and got in too.

The other guy got into the passenger seat. I tried to open the other side of the car, but it was locked already.

"What's your name?" He asked, not looking at me but resting his head. I didn't reply. Then he glares at me, his eyeballs becoming deep blue.

"When I asked the question, you replied, I won't tolerate any disrespect from you." He growled. What the heck? Did he just...

"What is your name this time?'' he asked again in a menacing way. This man makes me scared. "My name is Selena. " What? You don't expect me to keep silent. I'm not ready to die.

He nodded his head and went back to his position, then the car became silent.

We have been driving for the past few hours now, and we haven't gotten to our destination. The drive has been silent, and we haven't come across a single human since we left that city. Yeah, we left my new city because I don't think we would still be in that city after three hours of driving with bushes on the sideways. You might be wondering how I knew about it for three hours. Of course, I can read the time shown on the front of the car.

The funny part was that I wasn't even frightened. After a few more hours, I slept off, leaving the rest to nature.

I felt myself being carried again, then I opened my eyes. "Leave me alone; I can walk myself," I said, shoveling him out of the way. But he didn't move a bit.

"If I were you, I wouldn't do that." He growled fiercely. To terrify me. What is with him and his growling? He carried me up in bride style and walked towards a castle. Wow, I was stunned. It is extraordinarily huge and elegant. "Close your mouth so something doesn't get into it." He said, snickering.

When we got into the castle, many maids were going up and down, but the instant they saw him, every single person halted what they were doing with frightened faces. They all bowed. I was embarrassed because he was still carrying me.

Who is he, and why did these people give him so much respect? I wondered. He didn't even acknowledge them; he just climbed up the stairs. We got to a room, and he pushed the door open and dropped me on the king-size bed.

This will be your room, as from now on Sophia is going to bring in your belongings. You can ask her for help if you want anything, and again, you should go to bed early because we have a lot to talk about tomorrow." He said. Oh, my bag I nearly forgot about it. Before I could ask him or even thank him, he was already out, slamming the door.

I stood up from the bed and roamed around the room. I have never slept in this kind of beautiful room in my life. I sat on the bed again, jumping on it; it's very soft.

I heard a knock on the door; it must be the person he talked about. I told her to come in since it wasn't locked. She came in. Hmm, she is also pretty, just like him. I think she is going to be the same year as me or older than me.

"You must be Selena. Hi, I am Sophia, Damien's little cute sister." She said I was smiling a little too much, or maybe I am the issue since I haven't seen anyone smile at me before except my grandma, and since I was used to it, I don't smile or laugh.

"Hi," I replied timidly.

"Well, the maids are going to bring in your dinner; this is your bag." She said she was stretching it for me. I quickly collected it from her, kind of embarrassed since the bag is kind of worn out, and thanked her.

"You should go take your bath; I will go get your dinner." She announced that she was still standing there. I wanted her to leave before taking off my dress. I couldn't allow her to see my scars and bruises. When I saw her, she wasn't leaving. I took out my towel and also my PJ.

"Hold on, don't tell me you are going to take off your dress in the bathroom because I am here." She asked, stunned. I nodded and went into the bathroom before she asked any more questions.

Going into the bathroom, I peeled off my gown, the scarf around my neck, and my pop-socks, leaving my bra and pants on. I looked in the mirror to see the reflection of the ugly thing I had become.

My body was decorated with different sizes of scars; some have healed up already, while others are still healing up. I saw a red spot close to my ribcage; touching it was painful. My ribcage must have broken when James kicked me yesterday.

The only part of my body with no scars is my face. They purposely don't hit on my face so others won't be suspicious of them and get their reputation ruined. I didn't know when tears began escaping from my eyes. Those people are devils.

"Selena, is everything okay?" I heard Sophia ask. "Nothing is wrong, Sophia; I am fine," I replied. I quickly had my bath, put on my pajamas and socks, and used the scarf to wrap my neck.

I came out to see the maids bringing in my food. "This isn't mine alone, right?" I asked Sophia. "Yup, it's yours. Any problem with that?" "Hmm, no, there isn't; it's kind of much for me," I told her truthfully.

"Damien wants me to fill you with a lot of food because he thinks you are skinny, which I kind of agree with." She confessed.

After the maids left, I saw her looking at me weirdly and asking, "Is anything wrong?" I asked her when I couldn't contain my inquisitiveness.

"You dress in a weird way; what is with the scarf and socks? We are still in the summer period; don't you feel the heat?" She inquired.

"I am fine this way," I said curtly, trying to make her know the conversation was over. I don't want to talk about this topic.

I just finished eating. When I said finished, I meant eating the whole food brought by the maids. Sophia kept me company throughout, trying to make the room lively.

When I was done, she called the maid to come pack the dishes.

"Selena, you can go to bed now, so my brother doesn't get mad at me." She said she was smiling again.

"I rested on the bed, reminiscing about my life all over again. I wondered who this Damien guy was. Why did he think I was his? Why is Sophia taking care of me? And what exactly are we going to talk about tomorrow? Well, if I want us to talk, I need to sleep.

Not long after, I traveled to my dreamland.

Leaving tomorrow to solve its misery.
