Chapter 1 One night is all it takes

GAVIN

ONE NIGHT IS ALL IT TAKES

In one of my expensive and luxurious presidential suites, I sat at a corner, staring at the bed where a slim figure lay across the bed, her outline evident in the dark room.

The black evening gown she was wearing was still intact and I could feel that she was awake, staring right at the ceiling with her hands placed on her stomach. Her long blonde hair was spread across the bed and as the moonlight shone on it, it reflected back.

"Are you sure you want this?" I asked her in a calm voice.

As I said these words, she raised herself from the bed, staring in my direction. "Do you think I'll be here if I'm not sure I want this? And who knew I would discover something new." I could see a smile on her lips but I wasn't even bothered about it.

Placing the glass in my hand on the table before me, I stood up and started to pull out the buttons in my shirt.

"Strip." I ordered in a cold tone.

She knelt on the bed, slowly pulling off the straps of her dress, revealing her beautiful and delicate body. She wore nothing but a strapless bra and her panties and the beautiful figure of her body could be seen.

Without a word, I grabbed her face, pulling her into a hungry kiss and she kissed me back with equal hunger as she pulled my already unbuttoned shirt off and her hands headed towards my trousers.

Before she could get to it, I grabbed her hands, pulled my belt off with the other and then tied her hands with the belt. My silence and action was enough to tell her I want nothing interfering with my moment and she just complied, softly moaning as I kissed her neck down to her body.

I pinned her to the bed, straddling her as I made my way down to satisfy myself with her body and she answered to me just as I wanted.

*

The ray of sunlight slowly hit my face as I opened my eyes, staring at the high ceiling. I felt a head on my chest which made me look down and I could see the blonde beauty still asleep on my chest but I didn't care.

I pushed her off my body, swinging my feet to the floor. This action woke her and I could hear her groaning as she stretched lazily.

"That was a nice night, don't you think, Gavin?" Her soft and delicate voice floated to my ears but I just ignored her, walking into the bathroom to have a shower.

I returned to the room to find her dressed in my shirt, her gown in her hand. "There's no spare clothes for me so I borrowed your shirt." She flashed me a bright smile and her intoxicating scent mixed with roses filled my nostrils again.

I never thought I would meet my mate in a one night stand experience with one of my interns. I wondered how I have missed that detail since all these days but that was the least of my concern now.

I walked over to the table, took out my chequebook and scribbled something on it before handing it over to her. She looked at me in confusion as she read the content with her.

"Why are you giving me five million dollars? Is something wrong?" She asked, her tone failing to hide her panic and confusion.

"Leave." I ordered plainly before walking towards the closet to get dressed and by the time I returned to the room, she was seated on the bed, dressed in her black dress from last night.

"I don't understand what you're trying to say, Gavin. I am your mate. Our wolves confirmed it and you're not going to act on our mate bond?" She stood up to walk over to me but a single glare from me stopped her from inching closer.

"You might be my mate, Iris. But I am not interested in you." I replied coldly, walking past her. "And besides, I don't eat the same food twice."

*

I sat behind my desk looking down at the pile of paperwork before me. A frustrated groan escaped my lips as I stood from my seat, looking out the glass window behind my table at the lake behind the house.

It had been months since I saw Iris and she lingered in my mind and I didn't exactly know why. It wasn't like I was in love with her or anything. I just wanted to have a night with someone who wouldn't let the whole world know about it unlike those other female dogs.

"She's our mate, of course you will feel attracted to her." My wolf said lazily in my head. "You didn't even bother breaking the mate bond."

"It doesn't matter, Gray." I rolled my eyes. "It's not like I believe in any of those mate bond stuff anyway."

"And you seriously run a whole pack and encountered your mate over ten months ago? Despite the gap, you still can't get her out of your mind and you still don't believe? I have no remark." Gray said dramatically in my mind but I just ignored him, walking over to the mini bar in my office and poured myself a glass of wine.

A groan of frustration escaped my lips again as I tried hard not to throw a fist into the wall before me. Despite always thinking about her, I hadn't bothered looking for her after my assistant, Jerry, told me she left the company without completing the internship she was here for.

"Why do I care?" I mumbled before gulping down the entire content in the cup before letting out a satisfied sigh. Of course, I cared but my pride won't let me go after a woman after pushing her away and not caring to look for her these past months. I've never done such a thing in my entire life.

"You're just too prideful..."

"Shut it, Gray. Why don't you go look for her and plead instead." I snapped at him with a frown before heading back to my seat to drown myself in work again. It wasn't like I had anything better to do than to just oversee everything in this pack.

A sound from my iPad made me look towards it and I could see a video call coming in. I answered the call, I heard a pitched scream of my name. "Gavin Russell." My mother said, staring daggers at me.

"Luna Russell, how may I help you?" I asked in a sarcastic tone, leaning into my chair to stare back at her.

"You do not by any chance think I am growing younger as days go by, Gavin, do you?" She asked and I could already tell you what she was about to rant on about. "I should at least have gotten a grandchild from all the women you've been sleeping around with."

"Impossible." I replied nonchalantly, looking at the paper in my hand.

"Gavin..."

Suddenly my doors was pushed open and Jerry was standing there with a worried look on his face. "I'll speak to you later, mother." I hung up, looking back at Jerry with a raised brow.

"There's a huge issue, my alpha." He said, a maid walking in with a basket and from the basket, he picked a note, handing it over to me.

"Here's your dessert then." The note read and looking into the basket, I could see it.

Who was crazy enough to put a baby in a basket?

Chapter 2 BACK IN TOWN

IRIS

BACK IN TOWN

"Damn you." I tried my best not to curse out loud in front of my little cutie but that was the last straw.

"Iris calm down." My mother patted my back gently but I just pushed her hand off my shoulders. "Lyra is scared seeing you this way."

I looked down at Lyra who was staring at me with ber blue eyes filled with tears. I let out a breath before pulling her into a hug. "It's okay sweetheart. I'm just frustrated." I patted her head gently.

Those fools, they should have at least told me the plane won't be ready in time for my departure and now I have to go take the commercial plane. "Tell Helen to book a last minute flight back to Silver Moon." I said to my secretary who nodded gently before walking away.

"You should learn to control your anger in front of Lyra, Iris. Or she would be scared of you." My mother said from where she sat.

"I am her mother, mother. She loves me no matter what and you can tell yourself." I said, pointing at the girl who was already wrapping herself around me despite being scared of my outburst few seconds ago.

"You have this little girl wrapped around your fingers, Iris. Poor girl." My mum said, trying to touch Lyra who was busy inhaling my scent and as she saw her hand heading towards her cheeks, she snapped it away. "And she's just as feisty as you are."

"Of course, she is. I'm her mother anyway." I smiled, running my fingers through her dyed blonde hair.

I don't know why she loves me so much, to the extent that she wanted to twin with me, throwing a tantrum for two weeks straight until I complied and dyed her hair blonde as she requested.

"Ma'am." My secretary called out as she walked back into the room with a slight nod. "The flight leaves in two hours."

"Prepare the car." I ordered and she bowed before walking away.

"Are you sure you want to attend this gala dear?" My mother asked as I stood up, lifting Lyra in my arms. "There's no chance you won't meet Gavin there. It's been five years and you suddenly disappeared."

"Oh don't worry about it mother." I smiled gently, heading up the stairs. "Why would he bother since he doesn't eat the same food twice?"

Those words still throws me in a state of rage anytime I remember that night I had willingly given myself to him. How could he even say that to his own mate? I understand it is one thing to act all emotionless, but it is another thing to be a jerk.

I shook off his thoughts before preparing to leave the city. It has been five years and I've left his pack since then to come take over my father's company. Working in his company didn't mean I didn't have my own family.

I had made sure no one knew about me being the Green family heiress back in his company and I took good measures so he won't know who I am here either. I wasn't ready to face his drama but there was something deep down that was pulling me to go to him.

My son. I had left him back in the city for Gavin to take care of him just to feel the same pain I would be feeling by raising Lyra alone. Deep down, I wanted to see how big he had become with my own eyes because I have seen him multiple times on TV, making an appearance with his father briefly.

I just hope he would forgive me for leaving him behind and choosing to take care of his sister instead of him. "Mommy." Lyra tugged at my gown and I looked down at her with a raised brow. "You look worried."

"It's fine baby." I lifted her in my arms, twirling, and this made her giggle slightly, hugging my neck tightly. "Mommy is just a bit stressed, okay? But I'll be fine."

"I know you will. You're the strongest mommy I know." She squealed and a smile appeared on my lips as I patted her back gently before we headed out of the room to catch up to our flight.

We bade my mother goodbye and my secretary, June, drove us to the airport. The plane won't be leaving till an hour time but I prefer being early since my time has been wasted already.

I sat in one of the VIP waiting area with Lyra standing at the glass wall, looking outside at everyone passing by. I wasn't really paying much attention to her since she loved doing her own thing and it would just be me disturbing her.

"Mommy." She called out, making me look away from my iPad. "Please, can I get a daddy?"

Her question threw me off guard and I just stared at her, not knowing what to say. All these years, I've tried to make sure she doesn't feel his absence and never really asked about him till now. "What makes you say that darling?"

"I see a lot of little people like me with their daddy, but I don't have a daddy. You haven't told me about my daddy. Did I do something wrong?" She asked with a curious and innocent look in her expression that broke my heart into a million pieces.

"Of course not, my love." I pulled her into a hug. "You didn't do anything wrong my love. We just have some misunderstanding."

"When can I meet daddy?" She asked again and I just let out a sigh. I wasn't ready to meet Gavin at all and for her to ask about him, that meant she had really been keeping it in.

"Soon, my love." I assured and before she could ask another question, the attendant walked into our space with a soft smile.

"The flight will be taking off soon, ma'am Green. It's time to board the plane." The attendant announced and I nodded before taking Lyra along with me.

Thankfully, Lyra didn't ask any questions during our flight and just kept quiet most of the time, looking out the window while I just focused on my work. I don't know how Gavin will react to my arrival there. Would he want to keep me there? Even after he told me himself he wanted me out of his life.

Was he really worth it? I don't want to have anything to do with him but at the same time, I would do anything to make my daughter happy and it seemed like she was sad that all her mates sees their father while she hadn't seen hers and I haven't told her he was dead.

Of course, I won't lie to her that he was dead especially in future if I want her to meet her twin brother, but it seems the future was nearer than I expected.

"This is your captain speaking." The voice from the announcer pulled me out of my long thoughts. "Please prepare for landing." Was all I could grab from what he was saying and I just let out a sigh, looking at Lyra who had woken up from her nap.

"Welcome to Silver Moon pack, Miss Green." The attendants smiled as I stepped out of the plane with Lyra in my arms. "We hope you enjoy your stay here."

Yeah, I hope so too.

Chapter 3 WHO IS MY MOTHER

GAVIN

WHO IS MY MOTHER?

"Logan Russell." I called, pulling the curtains to his room open. All I heard from his was a groan as he tossed under his covers. "We agreed on you waking up early today, didn't we?"

"But dad..." His little voice of protest came from under the sheets as he pulled it away from his face.

"Your grandmother is here." I said calmly and he sprang out of bed, heading out of the room in full speed. "Get back here you brat and brush your teeth."

The boy just ignored me, rushing out of the room to head to my mother who was serving breakfast downstairs. She had made it her weekend duties to come over and take care of Logan on the weekends and I was grateful for that because the little boy could be a handful sometimes.

I watched as he hugged my mother before running back up the stairs, I guess to prepare for the day because she won't allow him to eat without a proper bath.

His maid bowed as she walked past me to help him prepare for the day. "Have you found her yet?" My mother asked as I walked past her to get my morning coffee.

"No." I stated coldly, lifting my cup to my mouth as I stared at the large picture of Logan and I in the living room on the main wall. "It seemed like she just disappeared."

"I have warned you several times, Gavin. Not all women are after your money and you can't keep treating all of them the same way. No for the past five years, you've been looking for her with no luck." She rolled her eyes as she sat down, turning to look at me.

"I don't care mother. What will you say about all those ladies out there trying to get close to him by one means or the other so they could get married to me. I haven't seen one who is different." I pointed out and it was true. Iris was the only different one and didn't even return to have me take care of her and the baby.

She never even told me she was pregnant and took care of herself till she had the baby. That action alone amused me and I just wanted her and only her no matter how long it takes me to get her back to my side.

"I can never win an argument against you can I?" She asked. "Just know that you should get a woman to take a motherly responsibility for him. He doesn't see me as his mother and he will always miss that true motherly love."

"Are you trying to suggest I get married to another woman other than Iris?" I raised a brow and her silence was just the answer I needed. "If not Iris, then no one."

Logan walked in calmly already dressed in his shirt and trousers. He sat at the other end of the table and I sat opposite him.

"So how was your week, Logan?" I asked him, pulling the covers of my food away.

"The usual. Little girls trying to date me even though I'm not interested." Logan shrugged.

"Sometimes, I forget you're four." My mother said and Logan shook his head negatively.

"I'll be five in a few weeks. I'm no longer four." He pointed out.

"Yes, yes. I didn't forget." Mother let out a sigh. "I'm just blessed with two bratty sons."

"You deserved it." I shrugged and she glared at me.

"So father, I heard we're attending a gala tonight." Logan looked up at me and I nodded. "Can I not go?"

"Not an option young man." I replied and I heard him sigh. "You've refused to go to the last ten events because you think no one of your age would be there but this time around, there will be so I don't see any reason why mother has to babysit you. And besides, she has some party to attend to."

He looked at my mother for confirmation and she nodded to confirm what I just said. "Fine." He grumbled. "But please, no bodyguards. I want to be alone."

"As you wish." I replied and breakfast continued in silence.

After breakfast, I headed straight to my study where Jerry was busy arranging some things on my table since I didn't allow any of the maids in, he did the cleaning himself. "Any news on her?" I asked, sitting at my desk.

"Yes." He replied, picking up his iPad and handing it over to me. "As we have suspected, she is a Green. And the new CEO of the Green family business. She hasn't been making any public appearance due to the Green family's usual secretive self."

"So she would be at the gala tonight?" I asked and he nodded affirmatively.

Finally, after over five years, I can finally have her back. She has a lot of explaining to on on why she didn't come to even look at our son for once. Logan has been very good and never asked about her and just went along with my mother acting as his mother.

"Young master asked if he could be homeschooled again..."

"Forget it. He's not getting any homeschooling anytime soon." I cut him off before he could complete the little brat's request. I wondered why he had to take more of Iris's character of being very stubborn because I am sure I am not as stubborn and feisty as she is.

"Yes, my alpha." He bowed before walking out of the office and I just stared at Iris's picture which was on my desk. My fingers ran across her face with a smile. Finally, after all these years I would meet her again.

I'm sure Logan had seen her picture the few times he had entered my office but still, he never asked about her which I found suspicious but never questioned him about it either because I knew it would bring up a talk on Iris and I wasn't ready to tell him it was all my fault that he didn't have his mother here.

Knowing him, he would probably plan my death starting from that day and execute his plan once he finds Iris. "Well, he took that from you." Gray said lazily.

"You're becoming quite lazy these days, Gray. Looks like we need some group of people to fight." I commented.

"We literally killed a bunch of rogue wolves few days ago. Can't a wolf have his rest again?" I could hear the annoyance in his tone but that was part of what I lived for, to annoy him.

I sat at my desk till evening when it was time to prepare for the gala and I went on to prepare while I asked Jerry to drag the little guy out of his library where I was sure he was.

As I walked down the stairs to my car which was parked right outside the mansion and I could see Logan leaning against the door as he looked up at me. "Don't bother speaking." I raised my hand to shut him up and he just shrugged before letting himself into the car.

The drive to the location we were heading to was silent and as we reached the location which was already bustling with people, he asked a question that made my slam on the brakes, hard.

"Dad, why does everyone have a mum and I don't?"
