Chapter 1 The Wedding Day Deception

Introduction

Choe's pov

My life is a complete disaster. It's my wedding day, and it should have been the happiest day of my life. However, I'm standing in the church, waiting to marry a man I don't even recognize.

The guests surrounding me keep smiling and giving me strange wishes that don't feel genuine. This is really bad, and I wish I could stop the wedding. How did I end up taking my sister's place at the altar? I only returned from London to attend my twin sister's wedding, Clara, and yet here I am, the bride.

I'm confused and don't know what's happening. I don't know why I agreed to marry him. I don't want to deceive anyone; I don't want to marry a man I don't love or have any connection with. I barely know what he looks like, only that he's supposed to be my sister's husband. But where is my sister?

My name is Chloe Walker, and I'm a model. I've lived alone since I was ten years old. As a twin, my sister Clara and I have always been close, but our lives have taken different paths after we turned five years old, I have everything people consider a normal life - a good job and physical beauty - but life has never given me two things I truly desire: happiness and a peaceful family.

I've spent my entire life faking smiles and pretending to be happy, but it's all a lie. I'm broken beyond repair. As I stand here, waiting to marry a stranger, I'm reminded that I'm a twin, and my sister Clara is..

As a twin, I thought being a twin would be fun and lovely, but it's been the opposite. My family hates the sight of me, but they love and favor my twin sister, Clara. They give her everything she wants and treat her like she's the only one in the family. I'm always the second option to everyone, and I wonder when I'll be someone's first choice. I'm tired of being people's second choice.

Sometimes I've thought I was adopted. I even asked my mother one day if I was truly their daughter. It was a stupid question, but I had my reasons.

I left California when I was ten to live with my aunt. It was a life I was forced to live, but at least I got to do what I wanted. I graduated with honors, but I never felt like working for any company. My dream was to become a model, and I achieved that dream with the help of my aunt. She's more than just an aunt to me.

One day, while I was in the modeling studio preparing for a shoot, I received a call that Clara was getting married. I was happy for her. Despite how my family treats me, I couldn't bring myself to hate them. They're my family, after all.

I asked my personal assistant to book my flight back to California for the next day. When I arrived, nothing had changed. It was still the same.

I took a cab home instead of my family picking me up from the airport. When I got home, I was excited to see my family, but the question was, were they excited to see me?

I wasn't welcomed at all. They didn't even care if I was alive or not. During my stay in London, none of them called me once, but I always made excuses that they were busy.

Our house was full of decorations, guests, and wedding planners moving in and out since Clara's wedding was the next day. I dropped my bag in my room and went to Clara's room to check on her and see if I could help with anything.

When I got to her room, I found her sitting in front of the mirror staring at her reflection. "Bride to be," I said, trying to get her attention.

"You're back," she said dryly.

"I have to attend my sister's wedding, after all," I replied.

"That's nice," she said.

"Is there anything I can help you with?" I asked.

"By leaving me alone, I guess," she said, which made me walk out. I wasn't surprised by her attitude; it wasn't new. But something was wrong. The Clara I knew wouldn't look like that unless she wasn't happy. She looked bothered and troubled. I wondered what had happened to her, but I decided to ignore it. Not like she would tell me if I asked.

I went to my room to get prepared for the next day as the bride's sister. I took a warm bath and slept because I was tired.

The next day, the day of the wedding, everyone had moved to the hall where the wedding was taking place. I was left alone in the house to come on my own.

When I was done getting dressed, I made sure I ate something before heading to the wedding venue. On reaching there, I saw my mother running towards me immediately I got down from the car. She took my hand, dragging me to the dressing room, where I met my father. They both looked worried, and I wondered what had happened while I was at home.

"Where is Clara?" I asked, and they both looked at each other as if waiting for who would talk first. Until I asked again, my mother finally decided to speak up. She gave me a piece of paper. I looked at both of them before I opened it. My eyes widened in shock as I read what was written there.

"Clara ran away?" I asked, and my mother quickly covered my mouth so others wouldn't know.

"What are we going to do?" I asked. "Should I go out and tell everyone that the bride ran away? Why did you bring me here?"

They both looked at each other again before my mother took my hand gently into hers for the first time.

"Please, you need to help us," she said, and I wondered what she wanted me to do for her to be begging me.

"I looked at both of them not understanding a thing.

Help you? I asked

Chapter 2 Married to a stranger

Chloe's pov

I finally decided to help my parents by taking my sister's place after being blackmailed by my mother with a secret from my past. They quickly changed me into the wedding dress, and everyone had been waiting for the bride to arrive.

Murmurs could be heard from the crowd when they didn't see the bride. Everyone turned back when they heard the clicking of my high heels. I saw Caden, my groom to be, I found out his name from my mother.

I look at him as he sigh in relief as he saw me walking toward him. He thought something bad had happened because it was clearly written on his face.

As I reached his side, Andrew, his best friend, whispered into his ear, "Are you happy now?" Caden replied, "Yes!" His eyes locked onto mine, and I felt a pang of guilt, knowing that I was deceiving him.

I forced a smile, trying to play the part of the happy bride. Caden's eyes never left mine, and I could feel his gaze burning into my skin. I felt like an imposter, standing there in my sister's wedding dress, pretending to be the woman Caden was supposed to marry.

The ceremony began, and I went through the motions, trying to remember the vows that my sister, Clara, had written. Caden seemed oblivious to the fact that I wasn't his real bride. He spoke his vows with conviction, looking at me with love and adoration in his eyes.

I felt guilty, I never wanted to do this, deceiving people is the last thing I wish to do, I didn't know what the future held, or how I was going to get out of this situation. All I knew was that I had to keep up the charade, at least for now, maybe later I will tell him the truth and ask for divorce.

As the pastor asked us to exchange rings, I took the ring I was supposed to put on Caden's hand. My hand was shaking, but he placed his hand in mine with an assuring smile. If only he knew that I wasn't his bride, I'm sure he wouldn't be doing this.

I took the ring and put it on his finger. He then took the second ring and stretched out his hand to take mine. But I stood there, thinking whether to give him my finger or not. I finally stretched out my hand to him, and he took my finger, trying to put the ring on it.

However, he stopped and stared at my finger, as if he had seen something. I felt a cold chill run through my body. Had he found out that I wasn't his bride? What would be my fate? Should I just tell him that I'm not his bride now?

I closed my eyes nervously, expecting the worst, like a slap on my face. But instead, I felt the ring being slipped onto my finger. I breathed out in relief, glad that I hadn't been caught.

I opened my eyes to find Caden smiling at me, his eyes sparkling with happiness. I forced a smile back, trying to play along. The pastor pronounced us husband and wife, and Caden leaned in to kiss me.

As our lips touched, I felt a jolt of electricity run through my body. It was unexpected, and I didn't know how to process it. I pulled back, trying to compose myself.

The ceremony ended, and we were surrounded by our guests, all congratulating us on our marriage. I felt like a fake, like I was living a lie.

"Let's go greet my parents," Caden said. "They've been asking for you since they got back. It's been a while since you've seen them. You must be missing them." He smiled, expecting me to be excited.

I forced a smile, unsure of what to say. I had no idea what his parents looked like, and I hoped I wouldn't get caught. "Lead the way!" I said, trying to sound enthusiastic.

Caden stretched out his hand, and I took it, trying to play along. As we walked, I followed his steps carefully, not wanting to make any mistakes. We approached his family, and Caden kneeled down in front of a woman and man who I assumed were his parents. They did bear a slight resemblance to him.

I kneeled down beside him, and the man placed his hand on my shoulder with a warm smile. "Welcome to the Knight family, dear," he said.

"Thank you, sir," I replied, trying to sound sincere.

As I stood up, I caught my "mother-in-law's" eye, and I was taken aback by the anger and hatred in her gaze. I quickly looked away, unsure of how to react.

We received their prayers and well-wishes, and then we moved on to greet my own family. My parents prayed for us, and we headed outside to the car, surrounded by our family and wedding guests.

As we walked to the car, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. I had just married a man I didn't know, and I was now a part of his family. I glanced over at Caden, who was smiling and waving at our guests. He seemed so happy, so carefree. I wondered if he would ever find out that I wasn't his real bride.

We reached the car, and Caden opened the door for me. I got in, trying to compose myself. Caden got in beside me, and we drove off, leaving our guests behind.

As we drove, Caden turned to me and smiled. "I'm so happy we're finally married," he said, taking my hand in his.

I forced a smile, trying to play along. "Me too," I said, trying to sound sincere.

I couldn't help but wonder what the future held. Would I be able to keep up this act, or would I eventually get caught? And what would happen when Caden found out that I wasn't his real bride?

Chapter 3 Deception Revealed

Caden's POV

I stormed out of the house and into my car, slamming the door shut with such force it rattled in its frame. My hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, my knuckles whitening as I took off down the road, tires screeching against the asphalt. My mind was a swirling storm of rage, confusion, and heartbreak, each emotion battling for dominance.

The woman I had married today wasn't Clara. She wasn't the woman I'd grown up with, loved, and trusted with my life. She was someone else entirely-a stranger wearing Clara's face. How could I have been so blind? How could I not have noticed sooner?

I pressed harder on the accelerator, the car speeding recklessly through the streets. I didn't care about the consequences. Maybe I wanted the pain to stop, or maybe I was hoping the chaos on the outside could drown out the chaos inside me. My thoughts spiraled further into despair, and I barely noticed the car that suddenly veered into my lane.

I swerved violently to avoid a collision, my tires screeching as they lost traction. The car slammed into the bridge railing, the impact throwing me forward. My head collided with the steering wheel, and a sharp, searing pain shot through my skull. Blood dripped down my face, blurring my vision as I stumbled out of the car.

The world spun around me as I clutched at the side of the bridge, struggling to stay on my feet. My mind was a haze of anger and betrayal. Clara had deceived me-or was it her family? Her sister? None of it made sense. I pulled my phone out of my pocket, my hands trembling as I dialed Andrew's number.

"Caden? What's going on?" Andrew's voice was laced with concern.

"Come and get me," I managed to choke out, giving him my location before ending the call.

Next, I tried calling Clara. Her number rang several times, but there was no answer. I tried again and again until my calls went straight to voicemail. My chest tightened, and tears I'd been holding back began to spill.

How could she do this to me? After everything we'd been through together? My heart felt like it was being ripped apart, piece by piece.

Andrew arrived not long after, his car pulling up beside me with a screech. He rushed out, his eyes widening when he saw my bloodied face and disheveled state.

"Caden, what the hell happened?" he asked, helping me into his car.

I shook my head, unable to form coherent words. "It's not Clara," I whispered.

Andrew frowned. "What do you mean? Of course, it's Clara-you married her today."

"No," I said, my voice cracking. "It wasn't her. It was her sister."

Andrew stared at me, stunned. "Her sister? She has a sister?"

I nodded, recounting the small details I had noticed too late-the missing scar, the subtle differences. Andrew's shock turned to anger.

"Why didn't you stop the wedding?"

"Do you think I had a choice?" I snapped, frustration bubbling over. "My family... the guests... I couldn't just walk away."

He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "We need to find Clara. But first, let's get you cleaned up."

Andrew drove us to his house, where he helped me inside and cleaned my wounds. Despite his best efforts to calm me down, my emotions were a volatile cocktail of anger, sadness, and confusion. I crushed the glass of water he handed me, the shards cutting into my palm.

"Caden!" Andrew exclaimed, rushing to bandage my hand. "You're falling apart."

I didn't respond. I couldn't. Instead, I grabbed a bottle of alcohol from his bar and began drinking, ignoring his protests. The burn of the liquid was nothing compared to the fire raging inside me.

Eventually, when Andrew wasn't looking, I slipped out of the house, taking his car keys. I needed to go home, to confront the stranger I had married, to demand answers.

Chloe's POV

I sat on the edge of the bed, tears streaming down my face as I tried to process the events of the day. I had never wanted any of this, but here I was, married to a man who despised me. My life had been shattered in a single day.

When Caden stormed out earlier, I had been worried. Hours passed, and he didn't return. I wandered the house, hoping to find a place to change out of my wedding dress and clean the blood from my forehead. The house was eerily silent, and every door I tried was locked-except for one.

The room I entered was beautifully decorated, the bed adorned with flowers. It was supposed to be a celebration of love, but instead, it felt like a mockery of the disaster that had unfolded. I quickly undressed and stepped into the bathroom, letting the warm water wash away the grime and blood.

When I emerged, wrapped in a towel, I froze at the sight of Caden standing there. His eyes were dark, his expression a mix of anger and something else I couldn't place.

"Clara," he said, his voice low and slurred.

I took a step back, shaking my head. "I'm not Clara-"

But he didn't seem to hear me. He moved closer, the smell of alcohol heavy on his breath. Panic surged through me as I realized he wasn't in his right mind.

"Caden, please," I begged, trying to keep my distance.

He didn't listen. His hands were on me, his lips pressing against mine. I struggled, pushing against his chest, but he was too strong. Tears streamed down my face as I pleaded for him to stop.

He didn't stop.

Hours later, I sat on the bed, my body trembling as I replayed the nightmare in my mind. Caden lay asleep beside me, oblivious to the destruction he had caused. My heart ached with a pain I had never known before.

I had lost everything-my innocence, my dignity, my sense of self. The blood on the sheets was a cruel reminder of what had happened.

Quietly, I slipped out of bed, wincing at the sharp pain between my thighs. I wrapped a towel around myself and limped to the guest room. There, I locked the door and collapsed onto the floor, sobbing uncontrollably.

Desperate for comfort, I called my mother. When she answered, her voice was cold and dismissive.

"What do you want, Chloe?" she asked.

I tried to explain, but my sobs made it difficult to speak.

"Stop crying," she snapped. "You're embarrassing yourself."

Her words cut deep. I ended the call, feeling more alone than ever. My parents had never cared about me, not even now when I needed them most.

I found a gown in the closet and put it on, my hands trembling. Sitting on the edge of the bed, I hugged my knees to my chest, tears flowing freely. My mind raced with questions and regrets. How had my life come to this? What had I done to deserve this pain?

Eventually, exhaustion overtook me, and I fell into a restless sleep, haunted by memories I wished I could erase.
