"Favour am really going to miss you," Camille's younger sister Goodness whined.
"Oh god can't you just use the short form 'Fay', Abraham chuckled, " Look Fay, please call us more often."
"OK guys will you stop acting like a never going to come back?" Camille looked at her siblings quizzically.
And then, the last but not the least Daniella rushes out with puffy eyes from crying, "I will miss you," she envelops Camille in a hug. This scene made Camille's heart break.
Camille has a family of six all together. She, her parents and her three other siblings. She was 15years of age and is about entering the university. You may call her too young but she's really intelligent. Her immediate younger sister Goodness is 13years old in high school.
Then comes Abraham, the only male 10years old entering junior high school and then, the last kid Daniella 7years old.
You can also say that their family has a dominant trait of intelligence. Their father, Friday Ashley is a qualified nurse who graduated from the university with a first class degree and expects same from his children. While their mother Cordilia Ashley is a financial accountant and a business lady.
The family of six were on their way to the garage where they could get a car for Camille. It was a lost a five hour drive from home to campus but Cordilia wouldn't let her take the plane because of her fear of heights.
"Hmm darling, be good OK? Sony cause trouble and make us proud," Cordilia stated.
"Yes Fay, you know your goals and your perspective. Don't get distracted and only then out can become the best," Friday chipped in.
"Yes dad and mum, I know and I will. I love you both and I will miss you all," Camille held their hands in hers and said tearily. She hugged everyone and got into the driver's seat.
She had learnt how to drive not too long ago but she was still a it nervous.
She decided to clear her head so as not to get into any trouble on her first day. She started the car and zoomed off leaving home and staying on her own.
She knew, this is when and where the journey of her life will begin.
She was on a long drive that seemed almost like eternity while thinking of how things may or may not work for her.
What if a professor hates her?
What about bullies? She wondered if they ever bullied in the university. She heard everyone minded their business except was a personal feud. She had learnt a bit of martial arts because of those vices and also because of her family's status.
She wanted to have a quiet and a detached personality so that she wouldn't try to please too many people and get involved in some friend's drama. However, she had no idea that something worse that that was to happen.
Before all her thinking could come to a halt, she saw herself in front of her university,
"EAGLE'S HEIGHT UNIVERSITY," it read.
"Now is time," she muttered to herself and drove in.
Camille drove into the school building and went to the administrative office where she met other students waiting.
She sat besides three girls who were in the heat of their conversation. One of them precisely the prettiest seemed to be pitying their childishness and foolishness.
"Did you see that guy oh my god! He's the most handsome man I've ever met I swear," one whose name she later learnt to be Love said.
"Oh god he's my prince charming," Cynthia spoke.
"Oh you guys should stop being childish and irritating. He's got no time for us," the one who seemed bored with their chitchat commented.
"Oh my sweet Meethi, you didn't see that guy did you? Well, he came after you were here," Love said sarcastically.
"She's seeing a lot more or even better. Would you mind hooking us up dear friend?" Cynthia rolled her eyes as Meethi shot a glare at her.
"Well I wanna do something, let's do a bootlicking contest and whoever wins gets to see that handsome god," Cynthia suggested.
"Yeah yo right," Love agreed enthusiastically.
"Well am not a part in your whatever licking contest. You can go and lick shit I don't care," Meethi huffed turning the other way. Her words almost made Camille laugh out loud but she knew better what to do than that judging by the sour look on the faces of others.
"Oh fine you better watch that your wagging tongue which could get you into serious trouble," Cynthia warned looking cross.
"Well, well, well, could you please be our scorekeeper for this contest," Love beckoned on Camille.
"I...,"
"OK, it's decided. Cynthia, you go first," Love suggested leaving a surprised Camille. She hadn't even been made a decision when one had already been made on her behalf. She concluded that she didn't like them, all bossy and annoying.
"Alright," Cynthia began, "Uh..handsome, you look so good that I almost peed in my pants from excitement when I first sighted you. Could we go out for a date, I mean I'll pay don't worry. After all, with your looks, even the own...,"
"Boring.., boring.., boring," Love mocked. But Cynthia really didn't feel it was her fault. After all, boys came to say such words to her not she going to them.
Meethi shook her head wondering if Cynthia wanted to use his face as an asset for glorification, "And he'll say he isn't in need of your money. Save it for your medical textbooks."
"Hey you can't even wish your friend good luck. What kind of a friend are you?" Cynthia pouted.
"Are you a friend? You should first ask yourself that question," Meethi gazed back at her, "And please stop pouting, it doesn't suit you."
"OK now my turn," Love said not being bothered about them and switching on to her acting mode,
"Hello my god, you look like you've descended from the heavens to let us mete mortals have a look at your heavenly grace and handsomeness. I just hope you won't disappear from the face of this earth at any moment because my fragile heart wouldn't be able to take it. Only one look from you can melt the hearts of a thousand. Only a gaze from you can resurrect the forbidden soul cursed to die. You...,"
"Miss Ashley she here? If yes, your attention is needed in the office immediately," a young man in about his thirties called out.
"Oh yes Mr am here," Camille jumped up from her seat following the man closely as she wanted to leave at room as soon as possible. She knew that those three are not in good terms judging by the way they talked to each other and the envious look detected on Cynthia's face when everyone's attention in the room was turned towards Love and her bootlicking monologue.
After been given her map, list of books and a few textbooks, with her requirements and hostel number, Camille became even more determined than ever.
She was told that this school is a very competitive one and many students from most of the popular high schools in town usually comes here so she shouldn't feel left out or feel that she had missed anything because they were all old friends.
She would have to study very hard because the professors here are very strict and their school usually goes out for competition coming out the best so she could already begin imagining the efforts put through by the students.
The dormitory is about a 10mins drive if there was no traffic.
She hopped into her car, turned on the ignition and drove to the hostel.
----
On her way to the hostel, she started feeling the imbalance of the car as one of the tyres began deflating. She wondered what had happened so she switched on the caution light and parked by the side of the road.
She was trying to remember what could go wrong when she suddenly recalled something, those kids. Yes those kids she saw on the walkway laughing and looking at her eagerly while she was entering her car. It seems they were all looking for a good show to watch and laugh about embarrassing someone else.
She came down from the car frowning heavily as she saw that the three young boys had followed her to see when their destructive plan will work out.
She approached them as she calmed her raging heart,
"Why did you do that to my car? I know it's you so don't try to buy me over and make a fool of out of me with lies," she quickly added.
"Oh that...," their voices trailed off as they continued in their boisterous laughter.
"I think your parents need to know about this," she told them.
"Oh and you think they'll believe you?," one of them looked at her amusedly like she was speaking Japanese.
"My parents will obviously believe me over you, a stranger," another said putting on airs.
"I have evidence. I've got the video of what you did to my car and that's what am going to show your parents. How did I know that you kids were the ones who deflated my tires? I have the video. Easy! After all, what parent will believe that their child could actually cause such damages to other's properties," she smirked.
"What if this stranger you talk about is able to...,"
"Stop it. Please stop it. I beg you please don't tell my parents I beg you," that same one began begging her. It was clear that he was lying when he said all that. What was left now was a pitiful young child pleading for mercy, "My name's Ray and this is my friend Richard. Please forgive us." He knew that if he's parents find out about this incident, he was dead meat.
Camille noticed they were only two left and the other ran away. She didn't want to chase that one as it would make her seem immature and give an escape route to the remaining two.
"Okay fine go now," Camille shooed them away. Although her car was damaged and it was their fault, she couldn't help but feel a little guilty for using false claims to make them apologize. Exactly, there was no evidence whatsoever. She just made it up to make the boys own up and it worked. But they begged her and got away with it. How soft could her heart become anymore? She sighed and frustratedly returned back to her own car. Where could she find a vulcanizer to pump her tyres?
He looked at her meaningfully as she sealed with those boys and he heard her every words. She really had her way but he really couldn't get a better view of her.
"Sir," the subordinate by name Mark seated beside the driver asked,
"May we help the lady, you've been staring at her since."
He nodded and they pulled over behind her. Mark came down and walked to Camille. He was on black all through, black polo, black trousers, black canvas and his shirt had some kind of badge she didn't even bother reading thinking he was some sort of agent.
"Uh..good day. How may I help you Sir?" Camille asked while looking at the man.
'Was this the guy they were talking about?' Camille thought.
Mark looked very good looking but not as exaggerated as they were saying to the extent of being scared if him disappearing.
Mark noticed she was accessing him quizzically and curiously so he decided to answer the 'questions' he 'thought' she was going to ask.
"My Sir has asked us to help you out since you seemed out of moves," Mark answered boldly at what he thought would be her question.
He watched from inside the car and decided to come out seeing she was thinking of something.
And then Camille's eyes almost turned into saucers,
'Oh my God this must be the guy.' It is well deserving and worth it to say he was a god that descended from the heavens at that moment.
Wait, what was the formula of moment in physics?
Force×distance right? It seems there was an invisible force pushing her to cover the distance between them.
