Xena's POV:
I stood by the window, a deep frown etched on my face, as I watched the rain cascade down in torrents outside my house. It was supposed to be the middle of June, the heart of summer, yet the weather had taken an unexpected turn. The rain had started abruptly when I was in the middle of breakfast, drenching the streets and casting a gloomy atmosphere over the entire neighborhood. But there was a peculiar feeling in the air, as if something auspicious was about to happen today. Perhaps it was a sign of an eventful day ahead, or maybe just another mischievous twist of fate. Time seemed to be slipping away, and I glanced at the time, realizing that I had less than 40 minutes to make it to college. But the thought of driving through the rain to school seemed nearly impossible. The raindrops pounded against the windowpane, as if mocking my sudden predicament. I clicked my tongue in annoyance and took out my phone to check the time again. "Such bad luck today" I muttered under my breath and my wolf giggled. "Maybe you should just stay home today and relax. I mean you're always going to college wether sick or not, it's a perfect time to relax" Layla, my wolf said. Well it was the truth that I was never relaxed and never took much care of myself, because I didn't deem it necessary. I had no mate that I had to take care of myself for. At 23, I was a teacher at the Cold Zone College, which I actually felt so happy about. I had always wanted to be a teacher because I loved teaching. It was a dream I didn't ever let go of, at a young age. Now I got a chance to fufill that dream, so I took this chance to heart. Even if I found my mate or not, I would never give up my profession. "There's no time for relaxation, Layla. Everytime wasted is a time to shape someone out there into a responsible person. If I relax, those students wouldn't gain more knowledge and im_" "Alright, Alright that's enough. Teach all you want and please just stop the preaching already, It's annoying." I chuckled at how easily she could be pissed off. Thankfully, the moon goddess seemed to be on my side this time because the rain seized a bit and I sighed thankfully. Without wasting much time to avoid waiting for the end of another heavy downpour, I picked up my hand bag and left to my car that was packed in the drive way. Once I got in, I started off the car and zoomed out of my neighborhood. The road looked very wet and the weather, very cold. I shook my head at the scene of the entire place looking so dull and devoid of people, like the normal day when the sun was high up in the sky. "But why would it rain in the middle of June for goodness sake?" I asked myself as I drove through the wet streets. Layla hurriedly gave an answer. "It's simple, the moon goddess is crazy" I chuckled at her words and asked her to keep quiet immediately. She could really get us in trouble and I would have to bear the consequences. ..... 30 minutes later, we arrived in college and I walked into the familiar building when I parked my car just by the school's gate. The entire hall was buzzing with students and everyone of them greeted me respectfully, even though most of them were much older than I was. I walked into my history class, feeling excited to dive into the fascinating world of the past as usual. As I stepped in, the students greeted me as well with warm smiles and friendly hellos. I always loved the energy in the room. Even though the name of our college was Cold Zone, the college looked nothing like it's name. I made my way to the front of the class, feeling a mix of nerves and enthusiasm. Taking a deep breath, I addressed the students, "Good morning, everyone. I hope you're all ready for another exciting day of exploring the wonders of history. Today, we'll be diving into the ancient civilizations of lore and our own kind." The students listened attentively, their eyes filled with curiosity. I couldn't help but feel a surge of joy knowing that I had the opportunity to share my passion for history with these young minds. With a smile, I continued, "We'll be discussing the cultural, political, and architectural achievements of these ancient societies. So, listen attentively as we I begin" As I finish speaking, the classroom was filled with a buzz of excitement. It was moments like these that reminded me why I became a history teacher - to ignite that spark of curiosity and inspire a love for learning in each and every one of my students. Just as I opened my mouth to read the words from my Textbook, a sudden sweet scent wafted into my nostrils and Layla purred all of a sudden. My eyes went wide in realization. Tears pulled up in my eyes as I asked Layla to confirm my suspicions, "is this real? Our mate came to the school? We found our mate?" Layla answered almost immediately,'Yes! Our mate is around! Hurry up and let's go find him!' She jeered and I complied. "Excuse me class" I said to the curious students and walked hastily out of the class, following the sweet scent of Ylang-ylang flowers that my mate smelled like. 23 years, 23years and I finally found my mate! I was so excited! Finally! Valkyrie would definitely be awed at this. I was finally going to be mated. I walked along the hallways of the school, following the scent happily as it got stronger and intoxicated my senses. Layla was even more impatient as she encouraged me to even run in my heels. We walked further and I expected the scent to move further maybe to the school's official office, thinking maybe my mate came to visit one of the teachers there. But the scent led me directly to Lunar Den, the boys section. I frowned in confusion. What was my mate doing in the boys section? Just as I took a right turn, I was met with the source of the scent. The very last person I had expected to see. He was also hurrying towards the direction I came from, and he froze when he saw me. My lips trembled in shock. Ry__Ryder? The Alpha's son? My student? Ryder suddenly mouthed the words, "Mate" and I felt my whole world shut down.
*****Ryder's POV***** I woke up to the sound of something crashing to the floor. I groaned in utter frustration when I opened my eyes to see a maid hurriedly picking up some plates from the floor. She noticed my deathly glare on her and raised her head up a bit to give me an apologetic look. "I'm sorry, sir," she said worriedly and looked like she wanted to tear up. "How stupid" I heard my wolf snort in disdain. I almost jerked out of the bed when I heard his gruff voice because I just had him a few hours ago. I turned 18 at the stroke of 12 midnight.
The boys and I partied because I finally got my wolf. I only slept two hours ago and now awoke because of the damn plates the maid threw on the floor. How could she be so clumpy as to let that happen? Now thanks to her, I had to leave the sweet dream I was just having. "You can leave now." My voice came out harsher than intended, but I didn't care less, there was nothing I hated more than being awoken. She quickly cleaned up the mess and scarred off, her face depicting fear. I rolled my eyes at her reaction and went to take a shower. Coming back into the bedroom, I noticed that it was heavily heaping outside. I wondered how the hell this was possible. I expected it to be sunny and warm but much to my dismay it was cold and damp. I dressed up and had my breakfast which was already brought to my room by the maids. I sighed and laid down on my bed waiting for the rain to die down, this was frustrating, and the last thing I needed was this, I just wanted to get to school so that I could see her. Eventually, it stopped raining, I checked my watch and had 20 minutes remaining. I abruptly got up and began getting my things ready, "Why are we even going there?" My wolf grunted hating the aspect of going to learn. "Because she is there and I won't pass up an opportunity to see her." I always felt smitten by her, and never missed a day of school just to see her even when I was sick I'd always make sure to attend classes. "Who is this you're talking about, your mate?" He asked curiously. "I wish." I chuckled to myself because of his question, then quickly headed out before the rain decided to start again. "Then who is she?" He asked again, his curiosity knew no bounds. "She's my pretty teacher whom I like quite a lot," I stated. "Ooh, how interesting, I wish I awakened sooner." This caused me to shake my head at him. My drive was pretty slow because of the rain. Many cars were stuck on the road, and it was irritating. I needed to get to the college, and I needed to see her. Was it too much to ask for? I glanced outside the window watching the damp streets, some kids were running around in the streets, and others were jumping around in the rain puddles. It was cute, the children were so carefree, and it was an amazing superpower they possessed. Eventually, the cars started clearing up and I heaved a sigh of relief, and started my car, at this point I was surely going to be late for classes. I drove as fast as I could and barely made it in time, after parking my car I headed straight inside the building. The halls were empty and quiet rather than the usual buzz that's always there due to the fact that everyone was already in their lecture rooms, oddly enough I appreciated the silence. Since I was already late I decided to go and put my things into my locker in the boy's section. I was putting my stuff inside my locker when a whiff of raspberries and coffee hit my nose, it was so intoxicating, that I felt my wolf howl in delight, we found our mate on the day we turned 18, wow that was quick, I felt the urge and pull to follow the scent but for some reason, my feet were glued to the floor, a part of me was afraid of finding out who it was because deep down I wanted it to be Xena and no one else but what if it wasn't her. My wolf growled at my reluctance, "What are you doing, that's our mate, get going now?" He definitely was an alpha's wolf, his voice came out intimidating but I was going to be an alpha tonight so he didn't scare me in the slightest. "I'm on it, I just need to breathe a bit." I let out feeling slightly disoriented. I heard him grunt but there was nothing he could do since I was in control. Reluctantly, I started walking towards the smell, my steps were unhurried and hesitant, I kept on praying to the moon Goddess that She'd be my mate, I just wanted her no one else and if I were to find that it was someone else, I was going to reject her just like that. I had this crazy feeling in me that had my heart pumping faster and faster, my breath hitched as I saw the corner that led outside the locker room. For many reasons, I was afraid, afraid that it could be someone else, afraid that I would be disappointed, but I had to know I couldn't run from this. I eventually reached the corner and what I saw baffled me. How possible was it for someone to ask for something and it actually happened, because what I asked for was before me? Standing in front of me was Xena, she looked as beautiful as always, my eyes got lost in hers, they were so captivating and that amazing scent belonged to none other than her, she felt a look of surprise and disbelief, she probably wasn't expecting me. "Mate." I let out before I knew it, my wolf felt like mating her at that instant, I knew he would like her as soon as he saw her.
*****Xena's POV*****
No! This was definitely not happening! This couldn't happen! Ryder was my student and to top it all, he was five years younger than me! This was a messed up joke by the moon goddess. Ryder noticed the confusion and dread in my eyes, and his excitement died down a bit, he proceeded to extend his hand and held mine in his, this caused a surge of electricity to course through my body. I felt Layla purr in the back of my head as my body relaxed in contentment. For a moment there, I melted into his warm touch forgetting about everything else. That tiny moment was euphoric, I couldn't explain what I was feeling, but as they say 'all good things must come to an end' The next moment that followed, reality struck me and I abruptly pulled my hand away. "No! This is wrong, This is all wrong." My voice came out firm as I took a step back from him. I could see the hurt flash in his eyes but only for a second before he held my wrist again and pulled me closer to him, his other hand sturbornly rested on my waist. "What is so wrong about finding one's mate?" He looked determined, you could see it in his eyes, he wasn't going down without a fight. "Everything's wrong Ryder, you're my student for goodness sake." I didn't want to create a scene or draw attention to us, so I spoke in a hushed tone. "So what if I'm your student we're still mates, we belong to each other and that won't change." He countered, I tried to move away from him but his hold was firm. "Let me go, what if someone walks in?." I attempted to reason with him, though I knew that he wouldn't listen to me. "Let them come and find us, we're two mates talking and I see no fault in that." This stupid child. "Ryder, this is wrong on many grounds, and I need you to reject me, you're the future alpha, you can choose anyone else to be your chosen mate and Luna, moreover you could get lucky and have a second chance mate" This sounded absurd, but what else could I do? This wasn't right! If I knew that he was the mate I had been looking for, I wouldn't have waited for my mate all this while, instead I would have moved on by settling down with anyone. Looking at him, I could catch sight of how his expression changed to hurt. I felt bad, but I had to do this for all our sakes. "That is not happening, over my dead body will I ever reject you," His grip on my waist loosened, "I don't need a second chance mate or anyone else, you are the only one I want." He was still calm and collected but his demeanor was gradually faltering. "Ryder, listen to me, this is for the good of the pack, stop being so stubborn. How can you marry someone older?!" I was trying by all means to get through to him somehow. Ryder let out an estranged laugh, "I got my mate after waiting for 18 years and you're telling me to say rejecting you is the best option. Right, that's not happening ever, you're stuck with me." There was a fire in his eyes which I feared that no one could quench, not even me. "Why do you have to be so stubborn?" If it was someone else, this could have been easy but since it happened to be him, this would definitely be difficult. "Because I am the Alpha." His voice came out smooth and soft. "And that's even the more reason you should reject me." I bent his words to my will. "I see what you did there, my decision stands firm, I'm not giving up on this, on us, absolutely not." He uttered as his hands settled on my shoulders and immediately sparks coursed through my body, his touch was dangerous to me because it made me melt and lose my mind. I closed my eyes trying to calm my heart that began perpetuating faster, if I touched him the sparks would increase, meaning I needed to find a way to get his hands off of me. I sighed and decided to try my luck, "Ryder, can you please get your hands off my shoulders?." My voice came out a tad bit vulnerable. A smirk made its way to his face, "Why should I, do you also feel the pull of the mate bond?" "N-no," I stuttered and this brought an amused look to his face. "That there is a lie, I know you can feel the bond, that's why you came here, I know you're hearing my wolf calling out to yours, but you chose to bluntly ignore it." He was right, I felt everything he said but I wasn't going to admit to it, I needed to make him believe that I didn't care, but that wasn't going so well. Anyways, it wasn't like I had the time to plan on what to do, everything just happened so fast. "As your teacher, you need to listen to me." My gaze was as determined as his. His eyes glimmered with inquisitiveness, and he leaned closer making everything in me go jelly, my heart picked up pace once more. "As your mate, I won't listen to you." his voice was low and husky for a moment there, I almost purred at how good it sounded, his breath fanned my face making my cheeks turn crimson. Our eyes locked for a moment, and all I wanted was to be in that moment, instinctively our faces started moving closer to each other. The space between us slowly diminishing, just then the bell rudely interrupted our moment for a good cause and signaled the end of the first lessons. This resulted in me abruptly pulling away from him. I hadn't realized that so much time had passed by, this meant that I'd have to explain why I didn't teach my class to the principal. Ryder took another step towards me and leaned down to my ear, "This isn't over yet, we'll continue this conversation later.'' With that, he left and all that remained was his hot breath on my neck close to my ears and a flustered me.
