The Alpha Werewolf Nikolas Morrison had contracted mercury poisoning, and as his Luna, I shattered our moonstone wedding ring and hurled the Dissolution of Mate Contract papers at him.
"I refuse you to be my partner again."
My wolf purred with pleasure.
Nikolas' eyes were bloodshot, and he fell to his knees in desperation before me. "Elianna, I'm sorry. It's my stupidity that led to my illness. I'll try my best not to become unsightly and burden you. I'm willing to give you everything I have. Please don't leave me."
He clung to my legs, pleading desperately, as if leaving me would be the end for him.
The once-revered Alpha now lay prostrate on the ground, as lowly as a beggar.
But I was blind to his suffering, dragging him roughly to the statue of the Lunar Deity.
"If you refuse to break the bond, I'll ask the Lunar Deity to take back her blessing."
...
Nikolas' friends and family gasped at my warning.
His father stepped forward, pushing me aside to shield him. "Nikolas has given you everything. How dare you abandon him in his time of need? If there's no valid reason, we should be the ones asking the Lunar Deity to punish you!"
I glanced at him, my wolf joining me in a mocking laugh. "It's unfortunate he contracted such a debilitating illness."
Nikolas' friends immediately stood up for him, and his mother angrily grabbed me, accusing, "He was struck by mercury poisoning to save you. Otherwise, how could such a strong Alpha fail to dodge an attack?"
Nikolas gently took my hand, trying to win me back. "Elianna, as long as you stay, all my wealth..."
I impatiently shook him off. "Don't touch me! I don't need your wealth. I just want to end the contract quickly."
Everyone looked at me in disbelief.
In their eyes, Nikolas doted on me, even indulged me.
Yet here I was, ungrateful and demanding to end our relationship.
They thought that I was vicious and stupid.
But in truth, this was the image Nikolas wanted them to see.
Nikolas had been suffering from mercury poisoning for a long time.
For the tribe's stability, he kept it a secret from everyone but me.
Every night, he would lock me out under the pretense of sparing me from witnessing his episodes.
I was ambushed and severely injured by thugs outside, left unconscious.
Sometimes, I was even stripped of my clothes.
Those who saw it assumed I had cheated on him.
Every time I woke from unconsciousness, I was met with his friends' and family's disdainful looks.
But Nikolas never defended me.
I was tired of such slander and wanted to leave completely.
But every time I wanted to leave, Nikolas would just grab my neck angrily and ask me, "You think because I'm sick, you can find a stronger Alpha, right?"
No matter how I answered, he never listened.
And this time, in front of everyone, he resorted to kneeling to keep me.
He used this way to show his deep affection and highlight my malice.
This scene played out repeatedly, silencing my wolf gradually.
I had always been waiting for a chance and I got a chance at this moment.
I looked at the unresponsive Nikolas, picked up the Dissolution of Mate Contract papers from the floor, and held them out to him. "Sign it, or you'll regret it."
As soon as I finished speaking, someone nearby scoffed. "Before, you were like a dog that couldn't be kicked away, begging Nikolas to bond with you. Now you're forcing him to break it. I've never seen a lowly Omega Werewolf as cheap as you."
It was Nikolas' secretary.
I looked at him silently, then turned my gaze back to Nikolas in front of me.
The once-proud Alpha now clung to my legs, refusing to let go.
I took one step, only to be blocked by the tribe doctor, Leanna Palmer. "Elianna, patients with mercury poisoning need adequate companionship. This is Nikolas' most vulnerable time. How can you abandon him? Do you want to hasten his death?"
Nikolas' friends looked at me mockingly, "Elianna, if you weren't Nikolas' Luna, no one would spare you a glance."
At this moment, Nikolas erupted, forcing himself to stand and pulling me into his arms. "Enough, everyone."
He then looked at me tenderly. "Elianna, is your father short of money again? Although I disapprove of him continuing to gamble, I'm willing to give you anything as long as you ask."
My wolf began to snarl at him continuously.
And I looked at him sorrowfully.
Nikolas was lying.
"You want a patient with mercury poisoning to placate you!" Nikolas' father, Frank, spoke up with a dark expression.
"We spent tens of millions on your father's gambling debts, and we will help you this time, too. Say it, how much do you want this time?" With so many eyes on me, Frank was sure I wouldn't dare ask for money.
If I took the money, he would ensure I was disgraced, betting that I wouldn't dare go against them.
But I just pushed Nikolas' embrace away, and my gaze was cold as ice. "Fine, I want 100 billion dollars. If you don't transfer it to me tomorrow, you must dissolve the contract."
Even if everyone here emptied their pockets, it would still be impossible to come up with 100 billion.
Nikolas collapsed to the floor and tried to touch his face with my hand. "Elianna, are you mad at me? Did I do something to upset you?"
This once formidable figure, Alpha, now showed his most vulnerable side, eliciting sympathy from everyone present.
But I simply withdrew my hands, unfazed. "Stop clinging to me. You're making me sick."
Nikolas stared at me in disbelief, as if he couldn't believe what I had just said.
As I turned to leave, the doctor standing nearby suddenly pushed my 12-year-old mentally retarded sister to the floor and looked at me provocatively. "Elianna, it's one thing to abandon Nikolas. Are you going to abandon even your mentally retarded sister?"
My sister reached out, trying to crawl to my feet, but I let out a cold laugh and kicked her away. "Yes. I will abandon her."
Leanna rushed forward, grabbing my arm tightly. "How could you repay Nikolas like this after everything he's done for you? You left him to face his illness alone and dumped all your troubles on him! Have you forgotten that Nikolas almost got banished from the tribe for trying to make those men accept you?"
Her words made me frown deeply. "Leanna, aren't you just a doctor? What gives you the right to criticize me?"
Leanna became even more agitated when he heard this, and he waved his fingers, almost poking them into my eyes. "You're not worthy of being his Luna! You and your family depend on Nick for support. If it weren't for him, you would be nothing but a whore who sells your body and soul."
The wolf in me was enraged by her and let out an angry roar.
I grabbed Leanna's fingers and bent them forcefully.
Leanna screamed in agony, a heart-wrenching sound that snapped Nikolas out of his daze.
He quickly knocked my hand away, standing protectively in front of Leanna. "Elianna, you've gone too far this time. Leanna was only trying to help me win you back."
I looked at Nikolas and Leanna's clasped hands, my expression growing colder. "If she can't speak properly, I have no problem hitting her. Is there an issue with that?"
Nikolas' friends immediately stepped in, separating the two from me with hostile expressions. "Even if you're Luna, you can't just bully a tribe doctor like that. You'll pay for this!"
With that, they forcefully slammed me to the floor, the impact so strong that I coughed up blood.
"Don't hurt her!" Nikolas intervened, as if he was the one being harmed.
He looked at me helplessly. "Elianna, if you just kneel and apologize to Leanna, this will all be over."
Everyone marveled at his favoritism towards me.
Looking at his hypocritical expression, my face turned cold. "She doesn't deserve my apology."
Leanna had repeatedly taunted me with videos of them having sex, even drugged my food, causing my child to die.
Yet Nikolas protected her, making the tribe think I was going insane.
Until now, he had still maintained the persona of "loving Luna".
"Elianna, I don't want to hurt you." Nikolas knelt painfully, hesitating for a moment before gripping my fingers tightly and snapping them.
Hearing my agonized cries, his hands trembled, yet he didn't stop. "This is what you owe Leanna. As the tribe's leader, I must be fair."
The pain nearly knocked me unconscious, the wolf within me howling in agony.
The people restraining me tightened their grip, nearly suffocating me.
Finally, as my seventh finger broke, a sharp pain pierced my heart.
I felt the wolf within me growing weaker.
Ignoring the physical pain, I pleaded with tears in my eyes, "I'll apologize. My wolf is dying, please spare her."
Nikolas looked at me with disappointment. "Elianna, how can you lie to avoid responsibility?"
With that, he grabbed my eighth finger and snapped it.
The repeated agony left me numb and my wolf lost its vitality.
My face ashen, I looked at Nikolas with growing hatred. "You'd better hope my mother doesn't find out about today, or she won't let any of you off!"
The surrounding crowd laughed disdainfully. "Have you lost your mind? Your mother is just a stray werewolf expelled from the tribe. Even if she came crawling to clean Nikolas' toilets, she wouldn't be worthy."
Leanna covered her mouth, hiding behind Nikolas in feigned terror. "Luna seems possessed by a demon, that's why she's hallucinating. Nikolas, maybe if we kill the demon with the silver sword, she won't break her bond with you."
Hope flickered in Nikolas' eyes, but seeing my weakened state, he hesitated.
After a few minutes of internal struggle, he still asked someone to bring a silver sword.
Reluctantly, he closed his eyes and aimed the sword at my heart. "I'm sorry, Elianna."
The blade tore through my clothes, about to pierce my skin.
Just then, a pair of hands intervened, shielding me.
I looked up with hope, but what I saw was my mentally retarded sister, Jenna.
Leanna was affectionately patting her head, while she pointed at me with a vacant expression. "Elianna isn't possessed. She just has a strong desire and needs some Alpha Werewolves to satisfy her."
This statement froze the atmosphere once more.
"What did you say?" Nikolas abruptly grabbed Jenna's arm.
She turned her head in confusion and said to him, "Only if you find more Alpha Werewolves to satisfy her will she not leave you."
This wasn't the first time she had smeared my name like this.
Jenna had a crush on Nikolas and once stripped herself in front of a rogue werewolf, but when she cried for help, she shouted, "Elianna, I won't dare talk to Nikolas again," then begged me to spare her.
Her attempts to gain Nikolas' attention escalated after he blamed me. Even when Nikolas and I were having sex on our wedding night, she got naked and snuggled into his arms.
Whenever I got angry, she would kneel, pleading with me not to punish her.
Nikolas believed I abused her and argued with me countless times over it, even punishing me for her sake.
Despite my complete disappointment with Jenna, her words still pierced my heart deeply.
I asked her angrily, "Who taught you to say these things?"
Before she could answer, Frank slapped me hard across the face. "Her intelligence is that of a six-year-old. How could she possibly lie?"
Leanna chimed in support, "No wonder the tribe's medicine supplies keep disappearing. It turns out you've been stealing the drugs that block the mind link."
Nikolas, hearing this, seemed drained of all strength, barely standing with the help of his secretary.
Before he could speak, the crowd began condemning me. "This lowly Omega Werewolf isn't fit to be Luna anymore!"
"We should find some thugs to rape her. This is the punishment she deserves for betraying Alpha."
Amidst the tribe's curses, Nikolas slowly knelt, his eyes bloodshot as he strangled me. "Elianna, I couldn't bring myself to touch you, yet you act like a harlot outside?"
I looked at him coldly, my eyes filled with disdain. "Nikolas, I overestimated you. You're nothing but a brainless fool."
Nikolas glared at me, his voice icy. "I am indeed a fool for being deceived by you. Since you like to have an affair, I'll grant your wish!"
He then instructed his secretary to summon several soldiers.
I stared at him in disbelief. "Have you lost your mind? If you let them rape me, I will never let you go!"
Nikolas' eyes were bloodshot. He had clearly lost all reason.
He eyed me with venom. "Since you are such a slut, it doesn't matter if it's an Alpha or a Beta who fucks you."
With that, he ordered the soldiers behind him, "Go ahead."
No one stopped him. Everyone thought he was a pitiable Alpha betrayed by his Luna.
Those werewolves, hearing his command, lunged at me to tear my clothes.
I fought back with all my might, but only managed to draw blood from their hands, which seemed to excite them even more.
While I struggled, Jenna and Leanna seemed to exchange some words.
Then Jenna moved closer, instructing the Beta on me, "You're doing it wrong. Elianna prefers standing between you."
Nikolas' breathing turned heavy, and he punched the wall beside my ear, his gaze murderous. "You dare do this in front of your sister?"
As my fingers were bent painfully, I felt a wave of humiliation from the unabashed stares around me.
Exposed skin touched the air, and I couldn't help but roar, "I am the daughter of the Lycans' ruler! If you dare lay a hand on me, the Lycans will kill you!"
The Beta on top of me slapped me hard.
My head throbbed, and I heard Leanna's mocking laughter. "Is your gambling-dog dad a Lycan, or is your lowly mother a Lycan?"
Nikolas' friends laughed derisively. "How ridiculous! No werewolf has ever seen Lycans, and yet you claim to be their ruler's daughter?"
As soon as the words fell, I received two more heavy slaps, this time from Nikolas himself.
He looked at me coldly, as if he had made up his mind. "I won't sever our bond. I want you to suffer the same anguish as I do."
With that, he instructed his secretary again, "Contact the media to ensure her disgrace is publicized."
Under the barrage of flashlights, I finally abandoned my struggle.
Just before the last shred of fabric was torn from me, someone kicked the werewolves off me. "I dare you to touch her!"
