Loving the Don Himself

Author: : Jenna Genesis
Genre: Romance
"Never in a million years did I think I'd be standing in the middle of a supermarket, awkwardly holding a box of condoms-for my boss's son, no less!" Emily Lane landed the job of her dreams straight out of high school, becoming the personal assistant to one of the most powerful businessmen in the world. But she hadn't anticipated the bonus package that came with the role-his son, Shawn Cole. Shawn is the definition of trouble: charming, flirty, and way too good-looking for his own good. For three years, Emily has dodged his playful advances, mastering the art of keeping him in line while secretly enjoying their banter. Their dynamic is harmless, just two people trading quick wit and stolen laughs. But lately, something has shifted. The teasing lingers a little longer, the glances feel a little more loaded, and Emily is starting to wonder if Shawn's just playing-or if her own heart is starting to betray her. When the line between playful friendship and something much deeper begins to blur, Emily realizes she might be in over her head

Chapter 1 1

Not once did I think I would end up in a stupid supermarket buying condoms for my boss's son! And I know it's for him because I wrote the shopping list this morning before I left to go to the main office and then all of a sudden his request is at the bottom of my list.

I grab the box labelled 'small' and throw it into the trolley with the rest of the groceries. I don't know what size he is but I'm sure with his rude, egotistical personality, a small should be just fine.

After paying for the groceries and loading the car I finally begin to make my way back to the Mansion. The streets are empty as it is nearly 9.00 p.m. but people are still up, letting their house lights brighten the road a little more. I prefer to do Mr. Cole's shopping at night, that way he can wake up to a kitchen full of fresh food, and I miss the daily mad rush of grocery shoppers. Though tomorrow he will be coming back in the afternoon from his business trip.

I finally arrive at the house and using the remote above my head I open the garage door, slowly drive in and park next to one of Mr. Cole's vintage cars.

I walk through the dark and into the kitchen carrying the three large shopping bags before putting them on the marble bench and turning on the lights.

As I begin unloading the plastic bags, I hear fast pattering feet coming towards the kitchen and within moments Shawn is standing directly in front of me with his bare torso glistening under the light while holding a pillow to cover his lower half. This doesn't surprise me. He usually walks around in his briefs so I've seen him more than enough times nearly naked.

"Did you get them?" He asks turning to the bench and showing half his bum cheek.

"Oh my god Shawn!" I gasp covering my eyes. I didn't realise he was fully naked!

"What?" I hear him chuckle a little and I frown behind my hands.

"I didn't realise... Gah never mind. They're in one of the plastic bags" I say not letting my hands drop.

The plastic bags rustle as he searches until eventually, he stops.

"They're not there" he says urgently and I can feel him staring at me expectantly though I still don't look.

"Keep looking. They're in there somewhere."

"They're not" He says getting a little impatient and I know I'm going to have to look for them. He is such a child. Well not really, we're both 20 but I'd say I'm the more mature one. I've been working under his father for almost 3 years now as his assistant and I now know the ins and outs of everything in his life, including his son's playboy fanatics. Shawn is usually, dare I say, a lovely boy, a bit hard on the outside but he has his nice moments. The one thing I've learned about him is he loves to have fun with girls. At first, I was shocked at the number of different girls that would come over during the week but I'm very used to it now.

"Fine go stand on the other side of the bench" I say and I immediately hear his feet walk over, allowing me to uncover my eyes.

I begin searching through the plastic bags on the bench and he's right, they're not there. I look down at the plastic bag at my feet that I was midway through unpacking. I bend down and find the box just under shampoo.

As I stand up Shawn is once again standing in front of me.

"Here" I say holding the box out, looking straight into his bright green eyes that are slightly covered by his now messy brown hair, careful not to look down at his lower torso that leads to the black pillow.

"Thanks" he says grabbing the box and I turn to the fridge so I don't get a view of his backside when he walks off.

I open the fridge and begin rearranging the middle shelf so the fresh food can fit.

A few moments later Shawn comes back and opens the door wider so he can see me, his eyebrows now slightly raised.

"Really Emily? A small?" He says, amusement clear in his voice.

I just shrug in response not caring. If he wanted condoms he should have gone and gotten them himself. I'm his father's assistant, not his maid.

"You don't believe that do you?" He smiles a little at me and I feel myself beginning to blush at the thought of thinking about his size. Thankfully the cold air from the fridge keeps my body temperature in check.

"Well I didn't know what to get you. All you wrote on the list was condoms with a wink face next to it" I say keeping a straight face.

A small smirk now begins to play along his red lips which I'm guessing are a bit more colourful since messing around with whatever one-off girl is waiting in the room for him tonight.

"We'll maybe I should show you so you know for next time," he says slowly pulling down the pillow.

"Don't you dare!" I gasp, catching the pillow before it slips any further.

I remove my hand immediately as a huge smile appears across his face at my reaction.

"I'm just kidding Emily" he smiles again, "but next time, maybe something a little bigger" he finishes, handing me the box back and then walking off to his room.

Great now I'm going to be responsible for making Mr.Cole a grandparent at only 49 years old. Wouldn't that be a great Christmas present? 'Merry Christmas Mr Cole. Your son is having a baby with some girl he had a one-night stand with thanks to my insufficient presumption of his package'. I let out a huge sigh and threw the box into the bin. What a waste of money, not that Mr.Cole would care.

After unpacking everything I head down the hallway to Mr Cole's home office to quickly finish off some paperwork he wanted me to do before he comes back from France.

I turn his desk light on over his huge desk that is perfectly tidy. There is a small pile of papers in the middle of the desk with a small note on top.

'Emily, once these documents are finalised, a copy is to be sent to Mr Brown for him to also sign before they are given to the board. I will see you tomorrow afternoon. Ps. I hope my son isn't giving you too much trouble - Mr C'

I smile at the last sentence as he is well aware of what his son is like. Shawn is always bringing countless girls home after a night out partying with his friends. And since he is on his university break, the numbers have only increased.

I sit down in his comfy leather chair and grab a pen and a highlighter out of a smallholder before beginning to go through the documents.

I'm almost through the second page when I hear a low moan echo through the walls and down the hallway. I know it's from Shawn's room as he's almost right next door except a big storage cupboard separates the two.

I try to ignore it but hear it again, only louder this time.

"Ohhh Shawn!" I hear some girl screaming out.

I quickly run to the office door and shut it close to drown out the sound but I can still hear continuous banging against the wall.

This is going to be a long night...

Chapter 2 2

"He likes two sugars" I comment to the thin blonde standing half-naked in the kitchen.

She's attempting to make Shawn a cup of tea though she's failing miserably, walking around awkwardly in her underwear and t-shirt. I did offer to make the tea but she refused, clearly wanting to please Shawn though she was just going to be tossed to the side like the rest of them. So instead of making his tea like I usually do if I am here, I just stand in my office attire, holding the updated folders I came to drop off and watch her as she attempts to find her way around the kitchen.

"Top draw," I say, pointing to the large draw behind her. She turns, letting her long, platinum-blonde hair swing as she does.

She retrieves a spoon, giving the cup a few stirs then begins to walk off without any thanks.

"He likes milk, too," I say just before she leaves. She turns back around, wearing a fake smile as if she's grateful for my help, though I can tell she's getting annoyed.

"Just a little" I add as she begins pouring.

Shawn soon joins us in the kitchen wearing only his black briefs, going immediately for the blonde, who still hasn't introduced herself, nor have I. There isn't much point since I'm never going to see her again.

He snakes his arms around her waist from behind, giving her a small kiss on her neck which makes her giggle.

"I made you some tea," she says sweetly, turning around and handing him the mug.

"You shouldn't have" he smiles at her before taking a sip, "it's perfect. How did you know?" he asks in his low raspy morning voice, wondering how she knew exactly how he wanted it.

She shrugs innocently at him, not acknowledging the fact that I directed her the entire time though I don't care. He gives her a small kiss of appreciation on her cheek but looks at me as he does so. I roll my eyes at him before making my way to his father's office, leaving the two of them alone in the kitchen.

I sit down in the huge office chair once again and begin scanning through the documents that Mr.Cole is to go over when he gets back. The process of purchasing the hotel shouldn't be that messy as we have done business with this company before though I should call a meeting with his lawyers for this week.

"So..." Shawn slumps down in the chair directly in front of the desk, a plain white t-shirt now covering his upper half.

"Your little friend is gone already?" I ask looking back down at the multiple sheets of paper in front of me, not caring about her whereabouts.

"Mhmm" he mumbles, "it's just us".

I look back up to him and he's playfully biting his bottom lip, giving me a wink soon after.

"You're hilarious" I sarcastically smile at him and smile at my response.

"So what are you doing today?" He asks, pushing his tousled brown hair back away from his face.

"Working," I say shortly and look straight back down to the files I should be scanning through.

"Have you had breakfast?"

"Yup" I say flicking over the page though I'm not taking in what it all says. I'm just pretending to look busy so he gets the hint but I can tell by his playful mood that he's going to keep pestering me.

"What did you have?" he asks leaning forward a little.

"A smoothie" I answered, flicking through another page a little louder.

"A smoothie? What kind of breakfast is that?" he scoffs.

"A healthy one" I reply.

"More like a starving yourself one" he says and I look up to him, a small frown making its way onto my face which makes Shawn smile. I gave him exactly what he wanted, a reaction.

"You shouldn't be starving yourself, Emily. You have an amazing body. You may hide it underneath all your boring office clothes but I can still see it. You have potential" he grins cheekily.

"I'm not starving myself Shawn" I reply flatly, ignoring his compliment which was also an insult to my clothing choice. I don't think I have boring clothes, do I? I usually wear a pencil skirt with a plain blouse which is what is appropriate for an assistant, isn't it?

He stares at me for a while and him, watching as he tries to hide a smile that is playing along his lips though I can see it in his bright green eyes. He loves doing this whole trying to get a reaction from me and I must say I usually do quite well at suppressing them. However, this morning I feel like he is being extra difficult.

"What do you want Shawn?" I sigh giving in to his annoying charms.

"Have breakfast with me" he says standing up, "a proper one".

"I have so many things I have to do before your father gets back," I say as he slowly walks over to me.

"So do them after. I'll even make the breakfast for you." He says towering above me now, his crotch right in front of my face, making me slightly uncomfortable so I stand in my heels which now have us almost at the same height.

"If I have breakfast with you will you let me work in peace?"

"It's a deal" he says reaching out his hand, letting his dimples show as he cheekily smiles at me.

I take his soft yet firm hand and give it a couple of shakes before letting go, though he doesn't loosen his grip.

"Thank you for my tea" he says continuing to shake my hand.

"I didn't make your tea" I say raising my eyebrows a little trying to loosen my grip but he still doesn't let go.

"Well I know Olivia didn't make my tea exactly the way I like it without a little help" he smiles, obviously knowing full well I gave her instructions.

'"Oh so Olivia is her name" I sigh in relief as if I'm happy to finally know it.

"Yup. Gorgeous isn't she?" he smirks at me waiting for a response.

"Not as gorgeous as the blonde you had over last Wednesday night," I remark and yank my hand out of his.

He is so stupid with his petty little games. As much as I like Shawn and find it slightly amusing when he uses his natural charm on girls, I don't like it when he does it to me which is usually when he's bored. I know he's only kidding around but it still irritates me.

"Someone's a little feisty this morning" he teases.

"I'm just tired that's all," I say sitting back down, no longer being able to stand his smirk.

"Oh yeah sorry about that. I didn't realise she was such a screamer" he smiles proudly before walking to the door.

If his father wasn't my boss I would throw this thick pile of documents at the back of his curly head.

"I'll cook breakfast while you stay here and... do whatever it is you're doing" he says gesturing to the papers in front of me before walking off down the hall...

Chapter 3 3

Shawns POV:

"Bacon and eggs for the man, and fresh fruit for the lady" I smile at Emily from across the small table, and she raises her dark eyebrows much to my surprise.

"You think because I'm a lady I don't want bacon?" she asks as if I took a stereotypical approach to the meals.

"No. I think because you're Emily you don't want bacon. You only like fresh fruit in the morning" I say and her expression seems shocked, "Yeah, I noticed" I add making her close her mouth in shame.

Hah! I bet that caught her off guard. She thinks I don't notice these small things about her but I do. I've known her long enough to know what she likes and doesn't like. I know she gets irritated by me flirting with her. I don't mean anything by it but I love watching her reaction as I play out my charm. She doesn't take one minute of my crap which I find amusing since every other girl jumps on the chance for me to take her home. Not that I'm complaining.

"So what are you doing this weekend?" I ask even though I'm pretty sure I already know the answer.

She'll either be visiting her mum downtown for the weekend or staying at her apartment and working. It's the only two things she ever does in her spare time.

"I'm going to see my mum," she says poking her fork into a strawberry and then taking it into her mouth with her perfect white teeth.

"Surprise, surprise" I tease, taking a bite of bacon and toast.

Best breakfast ever. I especially need the energy after staying up all night listening to Olivia talk about her damn Chihuahua.

"What do you mean surprise, surprise?" Emily questions, chewing her fruit slowly as she waits for an answer.

"Well, it's not exactly a shocker that you're going to visit your mum. That's one of the only two things you do in your spare time" I say and I can see she's a little offended.

"So?" she defends.

"So, maybe you should go out sometime" I suggest and I can tell her blood is boiling from me advising her.

She purses her lips into a thin line as she tries to stay calm though I know she wants to say something to me about judging her lifestyle choices.

I can't help but smile as she dabs the corners of her mouth with the white napkin that I neatly folded for her. I didn't get one for myself but I knew she would want one. I always saw her using them when we went out to restaurants with my father for different meetings.

"Let me guess your plans" She gives me a fake smile before stabbing her fork into a piece of kiwifruit a little too harshly and I smile.

She leaves it on the end of her fork and points it at me as she talks, "Seeing as it's Friday night, I'm guessing you're going to go out with your friends, get absolutely drunk, come back here with god knows who to do god knows what. Send her off in the morning promising to keep in touch though we both know you won't. Then spend the rest of the weekend lounging around until I come in Monday morning and wake you up for your Uni class since you're always late" she finishes with another fake closed-mouth smile before popping the fruit into her mouth.

Wow, she got that down to a tee. Mind you, it's not that hard to guess.

"You're wrong" I sigh looking into her hazel eyes that don't seem mildly amused by my protest.

"How so?" she questions.

"You forgot that you also bring me tea on Monday mornings" I smile cheekily and she tries to suppress a smile too, I can see it playing at the corner of her lips.

"Fine, and the tea" she adds finally showing a shy smile.

She's very thoughtful to do little things like bring me tea in the morning. She may have a hard shell on the outside but she always lets it slide when she shows small gestures such as these. It's not in her job description and my dad has told her multiple times not to nurse me but she continues to do so on a day-to-day basis even though I annoy the crap out of her. The only time she won't come in is if I have a girl with me.

"Anyways, I have to get back to work. Thank you for breakfast Shawn" She smiles politely and I give her a small wink.

"I know exactly how you like it" I say and I see she noticed the double meaning I intended as she rolls her eyes.

Emilys POV:

Typical Shawn dropped an offensive comment about my weekend activity choices during breakfast. He can't seem to get a grasp on the fact that I am 'boring'. He told me that within the first week, I started working for his dad when I rejected him after he tried to pull a move on me. He wasn't that phased by the rejection as he had a different girl over that night. That was the first night I learnt that Shawn didn't really care about a girl's feelings and only wanted them for one thing. The only thing about him that gets me worked up though is his mention of my boring life. I don't think it's that bad but apparently, it is. So what if I like staying in on the weekends? It's none of his business.

Just as I walk through the doors into the huge office the phone rings.

"Mr.Cole office you're speaking with Emily" I politely say my practised phone greeting.

"Emily! How are you love?" I hear Mr. Cole's cheery voice boom through the earpiece.

"Very well thank you, Mr.Cole. Are you not supposed to be on a plane back to New York right now?" I ask a little confused by his call.

He should still be aboard his plane, making his way home from France. I hope he hasn't stayed another night, he has an important meeting to attend tomorrow morning and I don't fancy speaking on his behalf.

"No actually I'm already here. I took an early flight yesterday morning and am on my way to the main office right now" he states and I'm surprised he came back early, "Are you able to meet me?"

"Of course, I'll leave now" I say gathering the files up from the desk with my free hand.

"Oh, and bring Shawn" he adds and I roll my eyes at his suggestion.

Really? I have to bring Shawn. The last time I drove to the office with him he wouldn't stop fidgeting with everything in the car and was constantly trying to distract me.

"Will do." I try to sound chirpy, and we both hang up.

I neatly pile the folders now, careful that they are not to crease as I walk back into the dining room. Shawn is sitting with his feet up on another chair looking super relaxed as he scrolls through his phone.

"Your dad wants us to meet him in his office" I announce and he looks up to me once I speak.

"Us?" he questions, placing his feet back on the ground, and turning to me from within his chair.

"Yes. He asked me to bring you in also" I say.

He stands and starts to stalk towards me, a smirk clear on his face.

"This should be fun" he breathes past me....
