She had spent her whole life running and the thought of it alone fills her with the coldest feeling ever, 'fear' but who would have thought that she would need her most hated skill now? Vanilla could hear her own harsh breath and the loud thump of her feet as she ran, glancing back occasionally, unable to make sense of the monstrous creatures chasing after her, 'what the hell are those?' she screamed in her mind.
Not one, not two, but three large creatures the shapes of wolves were after her, Vanilla had once thought darkness was terrifying, but she was wrong, these creatures were daunting. "Get her!" she heard one of them growl in an inhumane voice and dread filled her to the bone as she quickened her pace. 'No! No! This must be a dream, animals can't speak' she muttered in disbelief. "Don't let her get away!" Fearing they would catch up to her and she might end up dead without a body, her pace increased.
"Please... no." Her breath turned harsher as the sound of paws drew closer. Now, she didn't care about getting hurt and attracting darkness, neither did she care about the purpose she had gone to the Lost Shroud for, all she wanted was to get out of there. To safety. Vanilla knew that as long as she found the guiding door, she would find civilization. However, her thoughts were interrupted when her hair caught a tree branch, Vanillan didn't have the luxury of removing her hair gently, so she yanked it back and the hair snapped. However, she was unable to escape either.
Vanilla was pushed from the back and she found herself flying in the air, her scream died out in her throat as she fell on her side with a loud groan, the ground was wet, hard and filled with rocks. "You run fast little muse." One of them jested. Pain engulfed Vanilla, and her breath left me as she rolled on the floor, she didn't try catching my breath, instead, she pushed herself up and tried to run again, but it was too late, they had already surrounded her.
She scanned around, trying to find an escape route, and when she found one, she didn't bother thinking of it before she stood up and ran straight for the open space, but she was too slow, one of them caught onto her and a hand dragged her hair back. "Where do you think you are going?" A deep human voice spoke, making Vanilla scream and thrash around, but his grip was unexpectedly strong, no matter how hard she struggled, she couldn't get her hair out of his grip. She tried kicking him or turning around, but her efforts only hurt her instead of helping.
"Let go of me!" Vanilla screamed. "Let me go." His reply was to pull at her scalp and drag her back by her hair, she was thrown to the ground, right in front of two large creatures, Vanilla turned back to look at the one who had grabbed her, only to see two large scars like claw marks across his face." Why are you doing this to me? I don't even know you! Let me go." She demanded,Yet the man said nothing, instead, he strided over to her, that was when Vanilla realized that... he was naked.
Her lips parted, as she slowly crawled back, hand searching for anything to protect herself, determined not to let him do whatever he had in mind to her. "Stay away from me." her hand caught a larger stone, and she gripped it with all her strength. However, before he got to her, he paused, then he frowned.
" Darren, Do you hear it?" One of the creatures spoke, its fur was black and it had a limp, a slightly unnoticeable limp.
"It must be Darkness. Go on, we will finish here." the other one with white fur added. Vanilla had no time to wonder who darkness was, her mind was filled with calculation on how to escape them
"This one is a fighter, be careful with her." The one called Darren said, then he turned back and ran towards the woods. The strange thing was that he was too fast for a human being. Just when Vanilla wanted to also make a run for it– she witnessed something that made her body refuse to move, the man... the man who had just grabbed her hair with his hand turned into one of the monsters. Vanilla couldn't take her eyes off where he had disappeared to, she had thought it was strange. But what was this?
"Ethan, pick her up." The black one with the limp told the white one.
"Alright, the dirty work is always mine to do." It was only then Vanilla came back to her senses, ignoring the pain at her side, she threw the stone in her hand into the eyes of the one called Ethan, she heard him curse as she made a run for it again, Vanilla's speed wasn't as fast as she expected, but she still persisted, knowing she needed to escape them, she didn't get far, because Ethan caught her again, and this time, she was caught in his teeth, then she swung her up and she was thrown on his back. Before Vanilla tried struggling, she was thrown off balance from Ethan's speed. "Race you to the castle." He told his companion.
"Put me down!" Vanilla hissed, struggling against his back, yet he refused to listen to her, instead he increased his pace and continued running in an inhumane speech, he was so fast that Vanilla could barely see anything. "Put me down you beast." She hollered.
"Yeah, I am a beast indeed, now stay still before I choose to carry you in my mouth instead." Her curses and screams were ignored as she was carried deeper into the woods, leaving behind where she could have escaped. Now, all she could do was hope that whatever laid before her would not be the end of her. The deeper they went into the woods, the darker it got. Vanilla got dizzy from the constant speed and a particular smell, the smell was strange, both comforting and terrifying, it had been lingering in the air since she entered the Lost Shroud.
She had been warned, she had been told not to go there and now here she was– dealing with the consequence. Instead of struggling, she chose to save her breath, there was still more to come... that was if she wasn't killed or eaten. 'I just survive, I have to survive, I have been through worse than this.' her heart was filled with determination, as long as she lived, she would bid her time to escape. The disturbing smell engulfed her till she couldn't keep her eyes open anymore, exhaustion washed over her, and her eyes shut close.
~~~
Vanilla groaned as she sat up on the cold, hard floor, the stale air made her sneeze. "Where am I?" She murmured. It smelled like mold and burning fire. She quickly stood up and tried looking around but It was dark, and the only light came from the outside of the room, or was it a store, her hand traced the walls and it was made of stone, a bar was placed right in front of her, just like... a dungeon, Vanilla's breathed a sigh of relief. At least she was thrown into a dungeon and not killed. Her feet were not bound, neither was she tied up. They were underestimating her, and they were right to.
Just as she was about to sit on the ground again, she heard footsteps, not the footsteps of those creatures, but of something even worse. Unhurried footsteps, as if the person had no care in the world. The same smell she had been smelling earlier filled the room– Vanilla instantly stepped back into the dark as she waited for whoever it was. The closer the footstep was, the harder her heart thumped against her chest– after what felt like forever– a shadow passed over the bar, then a man walked in.
The air around him was filled with dominance and his presence alone made her weak in the knee, not out of anything else but fear. Vanilla gulped. "So." His voice was low, smooth and unhurried, yet filled with authority. "You are the one who bloodied Ethan's face."
Vanilla didn't reply.
The man tilted his head back. "I heard your groans for survival, but now you are mute." He stepped into the light, it was then she saw him fully, he was tall, not only in appearance, but his presence, shadows clung to him like they were his to own. His hair was black, his eyes were unreadable, and something about the way he carried himself made her stomach twisted.
But what struck the most was his gaze, he wasn't looking at her, and she couldn't see what he was looking at either. "You run well," he said. "Most of them beg, scream, call for help or even search for death. But you fought."
"Who are you?" Her voice was barely above a whisper. This caught his attention, he turned his gaze to hers,
"You may call me Darkness."
Vanilla's lips trembled, she pressed herself deeper against the wall. "Are... you going to kill me?"
"Are... you going to kill me?" He observed her, his gaze filled with interest as her human scent filled his nose, she smelled like something sweet, something he was ready to possess, her soft feature made her look innocent but she had a different kind of fire in her, his eyes trailed down to the curve of her body, how he wanted to trace it.
Darkness ignored his thoughts, tilted his head back, his gaze filled with interest, like a curious predator. "Why would I do that?" Vanilla struggled to keep standing, anyone in her position would, the man's gaze held no hate nor kindness, just endless depth, depth filled with secrets she might never live to know.
"Because I know you are not human."
Silence. Darkness's lip curled up. "You are also smart." He murmured. "Interesting. Tell me, muse, you wandered into the Lost Shroud, left the human world, and entered mine. What is it you want?"
"I am here to find someone."
"And?" Vanilla hesitated. "Humor me, what will you do when you find who you are here for?"
"I will take her and leave."
Darkness walked closer to her. "No human leaves the Lost Shroud, the moment you walked into this realm,you were bound to spend the rest of your life here."
Vanilla eyed him, wheels turning in her mind. "But you make the rule, I will do anything you want as long as you let me go."
"And why should I do that?"
"I will do anything you want. I learn fast, and I won't get in your way."
"Are you staying then?"
"No." Not minding her fear, Vanilla stepped into the light, her eyes filled with desperation. "You don't get it! I have to go back, I can't stay here. What do I have to do to leave? You said you won't kill me, but you can't just keep me here either–."
"Death." A chill ran down her spine the moment he spoke, and she stepped back into the dark, her confidence deflated. "Death is the only way to leave here." He folded his hand behind his back. " You are neither the first human to walk this land, nor the last. You will do as everyone before you has, you will live in this land, die in this land, and you will do as you are told."
"I want to go home." Her voice was soft, almost pleading. Darkness watched her, his gaze filled with the same interest as before.
"Every human here has said the same as you, tell me, what makes you different?"
"I have someone waiting for me."
"So did they."
"I am willing to do anything to return home." Vanilla's gaze was filled with determination, even if she had nothing in the outside world, it was still better than living among these strange creatures. Besides, she indeed had someone waiting for her, and that person didn't have much time left. "You can't tell me no one has ever left this place. Okay, just let me say goodbye... I will say goodbye and come back."
Darkness watched her, his gaze wasn't like earlier, it now held a subtle emotion, the slight frown on his face was a visible sign of annoyance. He didn't like the way she was desperate to go meet someone else. Vanilla met his gaze, her will visible, without warning, Darkness turned and walked away. "Humans are fickle, you speak as if someone from your realm still remembers you. Tell me, is it your body he remembers, your lips? Or your flame." he leans in, his voice low. "What would he do if another touches you?"
"No one is touching me." Vanilla countered.
"That is for me to decide." He leaned back. "This is your home now, and you will stay here until that sinks in." He said, then the door shut close behind him.
The moment he was gone, Vanilla's knees buckled and her body met with the cold floor, the wound by her side was already almost healed now. This was one strange thing about her, no matter how deep or how large and bloody the wound or cut was, it would heal on its own, way faster than it should. She released a stretched sigh as she laid on the floor and curled up. " It seems I will have to act like I want to stay here." She concluded. "As long as I gain darkness's trust, I can get him to send me back, then all of this would be nothing but a bad dream."
"He won't let you go." Someone suddenly spoke, startling Vanilla. She jumped to get feet, looking outside the bar.
"Who are you?" The reply she received was silence, her brows furrowed, she was sure she heard someone speak just now. The jingle of metal drew her attention to the wall by her left, she could hear someone shifting, so she walked over and placed her ear on the wall. "Hello? Is someone there."
"You are the first to ever speak to him among those that have been here." The man's voice was soft and silky, almost as if he wasn't locked up in an underground dungeon. "You are a special one." He chuckled.
"You are human." Vanilla stated. "How long have you been here? How did you get here? Have you tried escaping?"
The man scoffed. "Escape?" A pause, then he continued. "No one can escape Darkness's castle, and even if you do, you will never get to live till the next day."
"How do you know when you haven't tried." He went silent. "Hey! Are you still there?" Vanilla urged. "I can't stay here, I need to escape."
"Well, good luck with that." She heard him scoff, then he went silent again. Vanilla sighed, and returned to her earlier position.
"I am going to get out of here, it's up to you if you want to come with me or not." Without waiting for his reply, Vanilla curled up and closed her eyes. The sound of water ripples lulled her to sleep.
~~~
Her eyes fluttered open and she met with the same darkness, disappointment filled her once she realized she was still in that cold and dark dungeon, how hard she had wished it was all just a bad dream. Frowning, she pushed herself into a sitting position, her wound had healed by now, the only pain in her body was what came from sleeping on the hard floor. A familiar scent caught her attention and she quickly stood up and ran to the bar, both in anticipation and dread.
However, who she expected wasn't there. "He came." The man from earlier suddenly spoke.
"Who?"
"The man who holds our fate in his hand."
"What did he want?"
"You." Vanilla had no idea why, but the thought of being wanted by Darkness actually filled her with anticipation. "You are not really planning to escape are you?" He questioned, after some silence.
"I want to, no, I will escape." The man went silent again.
"Conor." He mumbled. "My name is Conor."
"Vanilla." She paused, biting her lips before she continued. "Are you coming with me?"
"To leave here, we will need a plan."
"What plan?"
"The one who owns this realm, Darkness, he is our plan." Vanilla's ear perked up.
"How?" She wondered.
"He wants you, we give him what he wants, let him put his guards down, then we make him let us go."
"It can't be as simple as that, besides, how can you be sure he wants me?"
Conor shifted to the side. "He would never visit here twice in a day if he didn't." Vanilla's jaw tightened. "To escape, we have to bid our time, we must not do anything reckless, neither must we give ourselves away or forget our purpose. Can you do that?"
"Yes."
"Then from now, we are on the same side, we are each other's ally."
"Okay." Somewhere in her mind, Vanilla pondered if she was trusting Conor too easily, so she made up her mind to create a plan of her own just Incase he fucks up. As she was lost in her thoughts, she heard loud footsteps descending down, this time, she didn't bother going to the bar, as she knew whoever it was wasn't someone who could help her.
A man holding a tray walked over to her dungeon, he was tall, tall and bulky, his frame covered the light entering her cell, and she couldn't see his face. "Darkness says he is willing to give you a chance, you will be released, if you are able to escape on your own, he will let you go, but if you can, then you cannot leave. He said. 'If you are willing, I should let you go, but if you are unwilling, that is also okay. But it won't be fun."
The word struck Vanilla at the wrong side, she stood to her feet, her nose flaring, but she drew on a deep breath to calm herself. "Does he see this as interesting?"
"What the Alpha sees as interesting is none of your business." The bulky man grumbled. "Make your choice."
"I will take it." She spoke without hesitation, then she glanced towards the wall. "I want him with me too."
"He cannot leave this cell, be grateful the Alpha sees you as a plaything, what do you think you are to demand anything of him?"
"Then I will not leave."
"You are in no position to care for others, or has he promised you something you can't resist, I heard human females are good in bed." He mocked.
"And you must be frustrated because you can't even get a pussy to fuck."
"Mind your words human, or I will teach you how to." He hissed.
Vanilla rolled her eyes, then she retreated to her corner. "I am not leaving without him."
" And why is that?" Darkness's voice startled Vanilla.

Darkness had no idea why it bothered him that she wanted to save someone else, his eyes assessed her, those bright and fierce eyes of hers that got him hooked in the first place. His jaw clenched and he glanced towards Conor's cell. He didn't like his muse being interested in someone else. "I gave you a chance, isn't it what you wanted? Then why? Why do you dare think of helping another man?"
He could see Vanilla shift on her feet, he knew she feared him but she was trying to hide it, perhaps she didn't fear him enough. "I just want him to leave with me." She wasn't planning to back down.
Darkness's brow furrowed lightly. He mind linked Ethan "To the Bars, now." He didn't wait for the latter's reply before he cut off the mind link. Then he turned his attention to the bulky man by his side. "Out." His voice held nothing but authority, and a slight annoyance.
"Yes Alpha." Theo bowed, showing his neck, his brows pinched together as he wondered what he had done to annoy his Alpha. He headed out of the dungeon to get his job done, leaving Vanilla alone with
Darkness's attention turned to Vanilla who had not taken her gaze off him, eyes wary and alert . "You still want to leave with him?"
"Yes." His eyes Darkened, then in a deep voice, he spoke.
"Very good." Ethan walked in at this moment, the little scar gotten when Vanilla stoned him still there between his brows, he folded his hand above his chest,and bowed with his neck shown, a show of submission.
"Alpha, what would you like me to do?"
"Bring him out and break his leg." Vanilla's eyebrow snapped together, as she ran to the bar.
"What are you planning?" She demanded. Ethan smirked, his legs bouncing with anticipation as he eagerly made his way to Conor's cell to drag him out. "Wait! Wait!! Wait!! What are you doing to him?!" Vanilla's yells were ignored, all she could do was watch as a man was dragged out of his cell, his cloth dirty and brown just like his hair, he had a striking face but it was covered in dirt.
Connor said nothing, his head was hung low and he didn't struggle either as Ethan pushed him to his knees before Darkness. The distance between him and Darkness was strikingly different. Conor was covered in dirt and on his knees, while Darkness stood dominant with his head held high. Darkness's lips tilted up a little bit. "You shouldn't plead for others, it gets you in trouble." He told Vanilla. "But I will make an exception, the one you begged for should be the one to pay."
"No! Stop! Don't do this! He hasn't done anything wrong!" Vanilla screamed, pushing against the bars but she couldn't break the bars or get out, she could only watch in horror as Darkness gave the instruction.
"Break It."
"No!" Conor was pinned down without a struggle, Ethan lifted his feet, a sick smile on his lips as he brought it down on Connor's left knee. It broke with a sickening crunch, yet Ethan didn't stop, his feet came down on his knee over and over again, erupting a deep howl of pain from Connor. Vanilla hit the bar, her eyes filled with horror and pity as she watched her new ally being crushed. Darkness watched this with a sick sense of satisfaction, she had no right to plead for or to anyone else but him. After his left knee was crushed till it broke, Connor was left writhing on the ground, his gaze filled with hate.
Darkness observed Vanilla's pale face, satisfaction filled his heart at the thought of his message sinking in, he walked closer to the bar till he was standing face to face with her. Vanilla shifted back, having to tilt her head to look him in the eye. Darkness noted how short and petite she was compared to what he had expected, from where he stood, his sharp eyes could see her boobs, not too big or soft and it filled him with delight. He lifted his hand to grab her chin but she stepped back, her eyes filled with both fear and rage. She was indeed his.
But that didn't stop him. He pulled at the cell door and it opened, as if it had not been locked before, Vanilla's eyes widened, he deduced that she had not expected his action. She looked just like a frightened deer who refused to show her fear. He grabbed her chin and lifted it up. "Why did you do it? He did nothing wrong, why did you hurt him?" Vanilla fumed.
Conor's soft groans filled in the silence, Darkness took his time to look at her facial features. From her oval face to her bright eyes, to her soft lips. "That is what happens to those you plead for."
Vanilla gritted her teeth, her eyes filled with hate. "You are a monster." It was meant to be a curse, yet it sounded like a confession. She acted like she didn't want to be near him but he could see the way her body responded to his touch, trembling and anticipating. Darkness leaned closer, their lips almost touching.
"I never said I wasn't." She tried pushing him away but her hand was held by him. "If you want to escape, you will have to try harder than this when I want to hunt you down." Then he released her hand and her chin. Ignoring her hate filled eyes, he walked out of the cell and closed it. " Rest. I will free you tomorrow, you only have this one chance– If you are unable to escape me, mine, for as long as I want you to."
"I will never be yours." Vanilla ran after him. "Never." She emphasized.
"I guess we will find out soon enough." Then he turned to Ethan. "Send him back to his hole, he will go with her tomorrow."
"Yes Alpha." Ethan bowed once again, till Darkness was out of the underground dungeon till Darkness walked through the dark, back to the castle. The Lost Shroud was a name the humans gave the forest that never released any human who walked into it, but the Kingdom itself had a name. Moon Guards pack.
Moon Guards pack was home to a whole Kingdom of werewolves, vampires and other supernaturals, they were not just there to live, but also to guard an ancient demon and his minions. It had been his great-grandfather, grandfather and father's duty for millennials, and now, it was his own duty. And he had taken on this duty after taking his own father's life ten years ago.
It didn't matter if his people feared him for this, or if they called him a beast, all that mattered was that he would fulfill his duty till death. Darkness had sworn to never do many things, he had always gone by his rules, rules he had been keeping till he met the white haired girl. Ironic, he had not even asked her name, but it didn't matter– because she would be his soon. "Alpha." The servants in the castle bowed before him as he walked into his mansion, each of which he ignored as usual.
The mansion was a masterpiece of it's own, a blend of luxury and elegance, modern and medieval, black and gold, a deep contrast to how his father liked it. He made his way straight to his office where, the moment he opened the door, a familiar face greeted him. Greta was red lips, sweet pussy, seductive smiles and cold departures, she was nothing like Vanilla. However, her red lips weren't curled this time, her thick brow was tinted with worry, revealing the wrinkles that could have been non-existent, the only testament to her century old age.
"You are worried." Darkness headed to his desk and poured them both a glass of whiskey, when he handed it to her and she didn't take it, he placed it down, then he sat down on his chair, his head leaned back as he drank his whiskey slowly. Greta patted down her black gown, her face gravely as she spoke.
"That girl cannot be left alive." Darkness' hand paused slightly, then he resumed bringing the whiskey to his lips. "I am serious, I sense a great calamity with her presence, you need to end her now or it's never." Aside from being herself, Greta was also the seer of Moon Guards pack, she had almost the same position as the Alpha and no one dared disrespect her or disobey her, except Darkness himself.
"I will decide if she lives or not."
Greta's eyes widened with disbelief, Darkness could sense the long stream of words she had in mind. "I have told you to kill countless humans and you have done it without hesitation or protest, what is so special about this one human, she is neither a pussy to fuck, nor could she be your mate, why won't you kill her?"
Darkness placed down his glass with a soft click, and Greta immediately tensed up, her eyes darted around, it was obvious Darkness had no intention to continue the conversation, but she wasn't ready to let go, her hip swayed as she walked right to the front of his desk. "You are not possibly thinking she is your mate are you?" the air in the room immediately became suffocating.
