Love's Way

Chapter One: The Beginning of Alesther's Troubles

"Mum, I'm home!" I exclaimed, dropping my bag on the floor as I rushed into the house, searching for my mother. "Mum! Mum! Where are you?" I called out, my voice filled with concern.

Suddenly, a loud crash echoed from her room, like the shattering of glass. My heart skipped a beat.

I ran upstairs, my heart racing, and my mind consumed with worst case scenarios.

I burst into her room, and my world came crashing down. Mum lay motionless on the floor, surrounded by shards of broken glass. I sa5 a piece of the bottle,I quickly recognized it as the one containing the chemical meant for killing rodents. A wave of horror washed over me.

"No! No! No! No! No!" I screamed, tears running down my face.

I dropped to my knees beside her. "Mum, get up! Please, wake up!" I begged, shaking her lifeless body.

I then checked her pulse, but there was nothing. She wasn't breathing. I felt like I was drowning in a sea of despair.

"Nooooo!" I wailed, clutching her body to mine. "Mum, please don't leave me! Not like Daddy did three years ago! Please mom, wake up!"

In a desperate, grief-stricken moment, I spotted a sharp piece of glass on the floor. Without thinking, I picked it up and sliced my vein, feeling the warm blood gush out. "If mom leaves, I too", I thought deep within.

Just as I felt myself fading away, I heard a voice behind me.

"Alesther, no!" David exclaimed, rushing towards me, catching my already failing body just before I could reach the ground.

I looked up, my vision blurring, and saw David's face filled with worry, and just Then, everything went black.

David's POV

As I walked up the path to Alesther's house, I couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. I had been away for three months, working on a research project in Shanghai, and I had missed her terribly. I had always had feelings for her, but I had never mustered the courage to tell her.

As I approached the house, I saw the front door wide open, was there a robber here, I wondered within. With great concern, I ran into the house, just then, I heard a faint cry. My heart skipped a beat.

I rushed towards the sound. I burst through the front door and ran upstairs, my mind racing with worst-case scenarios.

I reached Alesther's mom's room just in time to see Alesther slumping to the ground, her wrist sliced open. I lunged forward, catching her in mid-air before she hit the ground.

"Alesther, no!" I exclaimed, holding her tightly as I applied pressure to her wound. She was limp in my arms, her eyes closed.

I quickly scanned the room, taking in the scene. Alesther's mom lay motionless on the floor, a broken glass bottle nearby. I felt a wave of anger and sadness wash over me.

Without hesitation, I scooped Alesther up in my arms and rushed downstairs, careful not to jostle her. I grabbed my phone and dialed 911 as I rushed out of the house.

As I waited for the ambulance to arrive, I held Alesther close, trying to comfort and revive her. She was still unconscious, but I could feel her heartbeat, and that gave me hope.

The ambulance arrived quickly, and the paramedics rushed over to take Alesther from me, also taking her mom along. I rode with her to the hospital, holding her hand and talking to her, even though she couldn't respond.

As we arrived at the hospital, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. Alesther was going to be okay. She had to be.

I sat in the waiting room, my mind racing with thoughts and emotions. I had always loved Alesther, but now, I felt a deeper connection to her. I was determined to be there for her, to support her through this difficult time.

As I waited for news from the doctor, I couldn't help but think about the future. I knew that Alesther would need time to grieve, to heal. But I was willing to wait, to be patient. I would do anything to make her happy, to help her through this difficult time.

As I sat in the reception room, still in shock from the incident, I couldn't help but think about how fate had brought me to thi

Chapter 2 A Painful Reality

Chapter 2: A Painful Reality

As I sat in the reception room, still reeling from the shock of what had just happened, I couldn't help but think about how fate had brought me to this moment. The sterile smell of the hospital, the sound of beeping machines, and the soft murmur of hushed conversations all blended together to create a sense of surrealism.

I had been away for three months, working on a research project in Shanghai. But during my time there, I had an encounter with a wise old priest who told me that life was too short to keep my feelings hidden. His words echoed in my mind as I thought about Alesther, the girl who had been my crush since grade 7.

We had been great friends, but I had never mustered the courage to tell her how I truly felt. Now, as I looked at her from the opening of the door to her hospital room, she lay helpless, her wrist cut and her eyes closed, I feared that I might have missed my chance.

A wave of anxiety washed over me as I thought about what could have happened if I had arrived any later. The thought sent a shiver down my spine, and I felt a cold sweat break out on my forehead.

Just then, a nurse emerged from Alesther's room, and I quickly rose to my feet, my heart racing with anticipation.

"How is she?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

The nurse smiled reassuringly. "She's going to be okay. We were able to stop the bleeding, and she's receiving treatment for her injuries."

I felt a wave of relief wash over me, but it was short-lived. "And her mom?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

The nurse's expression turned somber. "I'm so sorry. We did everything we could, but...she didn't make it."

I felt like I had been punched in the gut. The air seemed to have been sucked out of my lungs, and I stumbled backward, my eyes welling up with tears.

The nurse's voice seemed to come from a distance. "You can go see Alesther if you'd like. She's asking for you."

I nodded, still trying to process the news. As I made my way to Alesther's room, my heart felt heavy with grief.

_Alesther's POV_

I slowly opened my eyes, groggily taking in my surroundings. Where was I? The room was unfamiliar, and the smell of antiseptic filled my nostrils.

"Where am I?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

A familiar voice spoke up beside me. "You're at the hospital."

I turned to see David sitting beside me, his eyes filled with concern.

"Oh my goodness, David! You scared me!" I exclaimed, trying to sit up.

But a wave of dizziness washed over me, and I fell back against the pillows.

"Where is my mom?" I asked, my voice shaking. "Is she alive?"

David's expression turned somber, and he looked away, unable to meet my gaze.

"David, please tell me!" I begged, my voice rising in desperation. "Is she okay?"

But David remained silent, and I knew. I just knew.

With a newfound sense of determination, I threw off the covers and swung my legs over the side of the bed.

"I'll go look for her myself," I said, my voice firm.

But as I stood up, my legs gave way beneath me, and I fell to the floor.

David rushed to my side, lifting me up in his arms.

"Alesther, I'm so sorry," he whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. "We lost her."

I felt like I had been punched in the gut. The air seemed to have been sucked out of my lungs, and I couldn't breathe.

"Why didn't you let me die with her?" I sobbed, hitting David's chest. "Why did you have to save me?"

David held me close, trying to comfort me as I broke down into tears.

"Alesther, this is not the end of the world," he whispered. "I know it feels like it right now, but you have me. I'm here for you."

As I cried, David held me close, his arms wrapped tightly around me.

"I promise you, Alesther," he whispered. "I'll stand by you, no matter what. You're not alone."

Chapter 3 A Moment of Weakness

Chapter 3: A Moment of Weakness

As Alesther slept off in my arms, tears still streaming down her face, I waited for a while to ensure she was fast asleep before gently carrying her back to the bed. Her fragile form and the desperation in her eyes had awakened a deep sense of protectiveness within me.

Just as I laid her down, the nurse who had been attending to her came in to check on her, only to discover that Alesther had unplugged the drip from her hand.

"Why isn't she taking her drip?" the nurse asked, concern etched on her face.

I scratched the back of my head, unsure of how to explain the situation. "Well...it's a long story, nurse."

The nurse nodded sympathetically. "She shouldn't take this off again," she said, reattaching the drip to Alesther's hand.

As the nurse left the room, I sat down beside Alesther, taking her left hand in mine. I couldn't help but stare at her peaceful face, her features relaxed in sleep. Her brightly colored red lips seemed to draw me in, and I felt an overwhelming urge to kiss her.

"I'm so sorry, Alesther," I whispered, my heart racing with anticipation.

Just as I leaned in to kiss her, the door burst open, and a woman rushed in, looking frantic.

"Oh my, Mr. David! Am so sorry, sir!" she exclaimed, her eyes wide with shock.

I trembled, feeling like a criminal caught red-handed. The woman's apology was profuse, and she begged for my forgiveness, explaining that she had come to check on Alesther.

As the woman, who introduced herself as Alesther's family doctor, attended to Alesther, I couldn't help but feel a sense of guilt and shame. What was I thinking, trying to kiss Alesther while she was vulnerable and grieving?

The doctor's words brought me back to reality. "Looks like she's been crying," she said, checking Alesther's eyes.

I nodded, feeling a pang of regret. "Not really...she cried a little and then went back to sleep."

The doctor nodded sympathetically. "I understand what she's going through. The pain of losing both parents is immense."

As the doctor continued to examine Alesther, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude towards her. She was kind, compassionate, and genuinely concerned about Alesther's well-being.

Finally, the doctor finished her examination and turned to me. "Sir, I'll be leaving her in your care. I know you'll take good care of her."

I nodded, feeling a sense of responsibility wash over me. As the doctor left the room, I placed my head on the bed beside Alesther and closed my eyes, exhaustion finally catching up with me.

_Alesther's POV_

I woke up early the next morning, still in the hospital, but David was nowhere to be seen. It wasn't until later that I realized he had been by my side the entire time, watching over me as I slept.

As I slowly came to terms with my mom's passing, I felt a wave of guilt wash over me. David had just returned from his trip to China, and instead of resting, he was here with me, taking care of me.

I slapped myself lightly, feeling ashamed of my behavior. "Gosh, I'm such a bad friend," I whispered to myself.

But as I looked around the hospital room, I knew I had to be strong. I had to accept my fate and move on. I took a deep breath and steeled myself for the challenges ahead.

Just then, David walked into the room, carrying a bag of food. "You finally woke up," he said, handing me the bag.

I opened it, revealing a delicious meal. "What's this?" I asked, my stomach growling with hunger.

"It's food, eat," David replied, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

As I began to eat, David teased me about my behavior the previous night. "You acted out some drama last night before you slept off," he said, chuckling.

I blushed, feeling embarrassed. "Really?" I asked, playing along.

David grinned. "No, I'm just kidding."

As we chatted, I felt a sense of gratitude towards David. He had been my rock, my confidant, and my friend.

"David!" I called out, my voice filled with emotion.

"Yes?" he replied, his eyes locking onto mine.

"Thank you," I said, my voice cracking. "For everything, Dave. For everything."

David's expression softened, and he placed his hand on my lips, silencing me. "You don't need to say another word, now eat."

As I continued eating, My phone rang, breaking the silence.
