"Henry, I'm back."
Henry Smith had just walked out of the company building, only to be intercepted by a person in white. It was too late for those security guards around him to stop that person.
The familiar voice made Henry stand there stiffly with no expression on his face, while the people behind him were all shocked to see the woman hugging Henry. They all admired the woman's courage.
Everyone knew that Henry was immune to women, or to be precise, hated women. None of the women who wanted to sleep with him over the years had a good ending. As time went by, many people spread the rumor that he liked men, and then someone sent him men in order to please him. But as to what happened to those men afterward, no one knew.
Sofia Geller looked at the young woman who was hugging Henry and was surprised, but she quickly calmed down.
Many years ago, she had seen this woman, who rejected Henry's marriage proposal when she was around. If this woman hadn't rejected him, Henry's wife would be this woman today.
Sofia stood behind Henry and couldn't see the expression on his face. But she thought Henry should be very shocked and surprised as well. The woman who had disappeared for so many years suddenly appeared. He must be in a complicated mood.
"Henry?" Nancy Andrew hugged him, but she couldn't feel any movement from Henry. She let go of him and looked at Henry with excitement, "Henry, it's me. I'm Nancy. I'm back, I'm back."
There was no expression on Henry's face, and he looked at Nancy coldly with his eyes which were as dark as ink. He said even without any feelings, "Welcome back."
"Henry, what happened? Are you still mad at me for leaving you? Even though I've been abroad all these years, I only love you. I keep telling myself to finish my studies quickly and come back to you." Nancy pulled Henry's sleeve and explained, "Henry, I'm back. I won't leave again. Let's start over, OK?"
"No." Henry shook off Nancy's hand without a trace and said indifferently, "I'm already married, and I have no interest in cheating on my wife. Miss Geller, why hasn't the car arrived yet?"
Sofia hadn't recovered from Henry's sudden statement that he was already married. Apart from the Smiths, almost no one outside of the family knew about this matter. What did Henry mean by saying it so unashamedly?
"Sorry, I'll call the driver right away," Sofia said apologetically with a step forward. As soon as she took out her phone from her purse, she saw the driver drove over, "Mr. Smith, the car is here."
The car stopped, and Sofia walked over and opened the door, waiting for Henry to get into the car.
"You lied to me, didn't you? You're still mad at me, so you're deliberately lying to me that you're married, aren't you?" Nancy questioned him behind Henry, "How can you love another woman besides me?"
"Why can't I marry another woman?" Henry stopped before getting on the car and turned around to look at Nancy mockingly, "I'm married. I don't have to lie to you."
"I don't believe it." Nancy excitedly rushed to Henry, "I asked everyone. No one even knew you were married. And the news that you were married even never has been reported in the newspapers and magazines. And no one has ever seen your wife."
"Miss Geller, tell her if I'm married or not." Henry suddenly turned to Sofia.
Sofia, who was originally a little distracted, was astonished when she heard Henry's voice. She subconsciously looked at Henry and saw that Henry was also looking at her. She immediately resumed her professional secretary style and said in a serious manner: "Miss, Mr. Smith has been married. Please don't disturb him. He has a very important meeting later. Mr. Smith, please get in the car, or you'll be late."
Henry no longer looked at Sofia and he looked at Nancy, who wanted to cry. Then he got on the car with an indifferent expression.
When Sofia saw Nancy's sad and tearful appearance, as a woman, she felt sympathetic. She really didn't know how Henry could be so cruel as to leave without Nancy. Was it true that Henry had no feelings for Nancy anymore?
"Don't you get on the car?" Henry's indifferent voice came from the car.
"I'm sorry." Sofia apologized to him. She was a little distracted by Nancy's appearance, and she was just about to open the passenger door when she heard Henry's voice come again.
"You sit in the back." Henry sounded somewhat unhappy.
"Yes." Sofia looked at Nancy once again, took a deep breath, and then got on the car. As soon as the door closed, the car started up and left.
The flap in the middle of the car slowly rose up, isolating the space from the front seat and allowing Henry and Sofia to have a chat quietly and alone.
"Why didn't you tell her that you are my wife? Is the title of Mrs. Smith really repugnant so much?" Henry looked down at the document and said to Sofia.
"If you want her to know, why didn't you just tell her who I am?" Sofia smiled briefly and said calmly, "You had many chances to let everyone know who I am, but you didn't. So, Mr. Smith, you're the one who should be blamed."
"Mrs. Smith, you've gotten bolder and said that I should be blamed." Henry looked up at Sofia, "Don't worry. I'll let everyone know that you're Mrs. Smith."
Sofia was a little nervous. She didn't want others to know her identity and didn't want to live under the attention of others. But she looked at Henry calmly, "OK, but it's better to settle your affairs first. I don't want to be disturbed, and I don't want William to be in danger because his identity is exposed."
"You don't trust me?" Henry frowned and looked at Sofia sharply.
Sofia calmly looked back at him and said indifferently, "Mr. Smith, we're here. It's time to get off the car." Sofia wanted to open the door and get off, but Henry pulled her wrist.
"You still haven't answered my question. You don't trust me?" Henry asked Sofia again.
"Six years ago, you needed a wife and I needed a place to stay, and we each took what we needed. I'm grateful for the life and work and William you've given me all these years. The title of Mrs. Smith never belonged to me, and it's time to return it to its true owner." Sofia calmly finished her words, smiled gently at Henry, pushed his hand away, and opened the door to get off.
Henry looked at Sofia's back. They had been married for six years. Whether in life or work, he and Sofia had been together longer than with anyone else, and they even had a child, but he could never see through what Sofia was thinking.
"The beautiful pianist, Nancy Andrew, has been back in China for a week now, and there's been non-stop news about her. Our reporter filmed her returning to her apartment with a mysterious man last night..." The latest entertainment news was reported on TV.
Sofia sat there as if she was watching the TV very seriously. The expression on her face was so calm that one couldn't tell what she was thinking about, and Harry Smith and Howard Smith were watching her somewhat nervously.
At this time, footsteps came from upstairs, and Henry came down from upstairs. Sofia immediately picked up the remote and turned off the TV. Then she got up as if nothing had happened and walked towards Henry.
"Breakfast is already prepared. You go to the dining room first and wait for a while, I'll go to call grandma and mom and dad to come over for breakfast." Sofia quickly stopped looking at Henry and was going to leave.
"No. I'll go to call grandma to have breakfast." Harry looked at the awkward atmosphere between the couple and immediately found an excuse to disappear from the living room.
"Then I'll go to find Mom and Dad." Howard wisely followed Harry and disappeared from the living room as well.
Henry took a glance in the direction they left, and then looked at and asked Sofia who was a little bit distracted, "Do you have something to say?"
Sofia looked up at Henry and nodded gently, "Let's wait until everyone is here. There are some words I don't want to repeat. Let's go to the dining room first."
Sofia turned around and walked towards the dining room. Henry thoughtfully looked at her back and silently followed her.
Soon after, Harry helped old Mrs. Smith walk in, and the others also walked in one after another.
"Good morning, grandma. Good morning, Mom and Dad." Sofia greeted the elders as she brought breakfast to the table together with the maids.
Old Mrs. Smith nodded. After she sat down, the others also sat down one after another.
"Let's have breakfast." Old Mrs. Smith spoke as if giving an order.
"Grandmother, Mom, Dad, I have something to say." As soon as Old Mrs. Smith finished speaking, Sofia said calmly. It was unusually clear in this quiet morning and attracted everyone's attention. Sofia ignored them and calmly looked at Old Mrs. Smith, "I want a divorce!"
The dining room was unusually quiet, and if a pin was dropped on the floor, it could be heard. The atmosphere was somewhat oppressive, and everyone held their breath to look at Old Mrs. Smith.
"Henry, what do you think?" Old Mrs. Smith was too calm, so no one could see her inner thoughts.
Henry, who was called by his name, looked up at Sofia across him with his dark eyes, "Reason!"
"There's no reason." Sofia seemed to have anticipated Henry's reaction and just looked at him calmly.
They stared at each other. Neither of them actively said anything else. William Smith, who was on the side, jumped down from the chair and walked over to hug Sofia nicely, "Mom, if you and dad divorced, can I live with you?"
Sofia caressed William's head, lowered her head, and kissed him on the forehead and she smiled gently and said, "No matter how Mom and Dad's relationship becomes, we'll love you very much."
"But I want to be with you." William buried his head into Sofia's arms. His voice was a little muffled, making her feel distressed.
Sofia closed her eyes to sort out her emotions and was very calm when she opened her eyes, "William, you're a boy. Boys should be strong, so don't be so fragile. Sit back in your seat."
"William is still a kid. Do you have to be so strict with him?" Jennifer Smith, Henry's mother, was distressed to see William's being pitiful and unhappily accused Sofia, "I don't know what happened between you and your husband, but we Smiths have never treated you badly. When Henry wanted to marry you at first, I was very unsatisfied because you don't have a good family or property. I didn't even know anything about your past. But he insisted, and we gave in, but the Smith family isn't something you can just come and leave as you wish."
Sofia didn't retort, nor was she agitated or angry. She just hugged William and covered his ears so that he wouldn't hear the argument.
