It was a happy night. Flickering stars adorned the night sky. Invited guests filled the poolside engagement party venue of a five-star hotel. After the private proposal Jake gave three months ago, finally tonight Jake would announce the engagement party publicly. There were many guests from the upper class, especially colleagues and business partners of the Awan Company.
Caroline's face looked radiant. Her eyes emitted a huge twinkle of happiness. Caroline had loved Jake all her life. She gave everything she had, thinking she would receive as much as she gave. The sleeveless red dress wrapped around her body made her look so sexy. Her chest and ass had perfect curves, and the fat gathered where it should be.
Caroline stared at Jake with a sweet smile gracing her lips. She couldn't tear her gaze away from the 25-year-old man who had spoken in front of her. Jake looked very authoritative in his black suit.
"On this blessed night, I would like to introduce a woman who has stolen my heart. A woman who has accompanied me all these years. A woman with whom I decided to have a new family. I feel so blessed to be the man she loves. We have a simple dream: to have two children and watch them grow up together." Jake said without turning to Caroline at all,
Caroline felt so nervous; her heart was beating erratically. Her chest was pounding, and her legs were trembling slightly. In all her life, she had never felt this nervous. She was finally going to marry the man she loved, recognized, and wanted to live with forever. She felt like the luckiest woman in the world.
"Emily, once again, let me ask. Will you marry me?" Jake asked with a sweet smile on his lips. He looked at the woman in the maroon dress, standing not far from him.
Emily smiled shyly, gave a small nod, and stepped up to Jake. They looked so good together. Although not as beautiful as Caroline, Emily looked so charming and mesmerizing.
Caroline was petrified on the spot. All she knew was that Jake was going to propose to her tonight in front of everyone, but why was the other woman's name called forward? For a moment, Caroline felt her heart stop beating.
"Jake, what about me?" After trying to brace herself, Caroline was finally able to say the words. Her eyes heated up at the man in front of her.
"What's wrong with you?" Jake made a face as if he didn't understand.
"You said you were going to marry me. What are you doing now? Is this a joke? Why did you propose to another woman at our engagement party?" Caroline's voice sounded shaky, a sign that the pain she was receiving was so great. Her eyes glazed over at the man in front of her.
"Are you kidding me? How could I possibly marry a woman from a poor family? You think I don't know that your family went bankrupt last month. There's only a pile of debt left. I don't want to spend my life helping pay off your parents' debts."
"You can't dump me just because my parents are broke."
"Of course I can. There are many women who want to marry me. Look at you; you came here even in your cheap clothes!" Jake pointed arrogantly.
Caroline laughed slightly. She did not expect that Jake would be that cruel to her. All this time, Jake has treated her with great tenderness. She knew Jake as a gentle and responsible man. Who would have thought that she would be abandoned so easily just because her family is now poor?
"Ah yes, give me back the ring I gave you." Jake stepped closer, and he grabbed the diamond ring on Caroline's ring finger. "I've repeatedly asked you to return this ring, but you never wanted to. You want to keep it because you know it's an expensive ring, right? It's a family heirloom ring worth $10 million. It's a good thing it wasn't lost in your hands. You wouldn't have been able to redeem it even with your life." Jake said it harshly, then moved towards Emily.
Caroline couldn't believe that the happy night she had been waiting for had turned into the night she hated the most. She thought this would be her happiest night, but instead she was humiliated.
"I'm sorry that I made you wait to get this ring." Jake said this with great tenderness to Emily. He pinned the ring to Emily's ring finger. Followed by boisterous applause from the invited guests.
Caroline could only stand still. Her legs felt so stiff, as if her feet had been stuck in the place where she was standing. She wanted to get out of there, but she suddenly lost all her strength.
Jake and Emily kissed so romantically amidst the applause and whistles of the guests. No one cared about Caroline's feelings at all. Everyone was happy, except Caroline.
Caroline felt like her chest had been stabbed a thousand times. The lips she usually kissed were now kissing the lips of another woman. The arms that were usually around her waist were now around another woman's waist. Caroline was completely devastated; she felt that life no longer had any meaning.
"Are you going to keep standing here to witness our happiness? Aren't you ashamed that you don't deserve to be here?" Emily said haughtily to Caroline. She again crushed Jake's lips to make Caroline's heart even hotter.
"She's really shameless. She thinks she deserves to be with the Corner family."
"She thinks she can marry into the Corner family just because she's pretty."
"Now there are many toxic women who want to get rich instantly by marrying into a rich family. It's really shameless."
Caroline heard the nasty comments she received from the invited guests. It made her self-esteem spike even more. The longer she was there, the more insults she would get.
"Go home and return to the arms of your poor family!"
"Don't ever dream of being part of the Corner family!"
The cheers made Caroline's little heart ache even more. She wanted to cry, but her tears were too precious for a trashy man like Jake to cry. Caroline turned around, half running to get away from the party. She was too busy with her thoughts to focus on the path she was on. Unintentionally, Caroline fell into a pool with a depth of 3 meters. She couldn't swim, especially since she was wearing a dress, making it even more difficult for her to move.
"Help, I can't swim!" Caroline struggled to call for help. She was gasping for air; her mouth and nose were filled with water. She tried hard to get out of the pool, but she could not. The water continued to gurgle as Caroline banged and kicked at the water to keep breathing in air on the surface of the pool.
Everyone there just laughed as Caroline fell in and couldn't swim. They were happy because they were getting a free spectacle.
"H-help!" Caroline was getting weaker and weaker. She kept trying to reach the surface, but her energy was running out. Eventually, she stopped trying. She could only surrender, prepared to die that night.
Jared got out of the car in a very formal outfit. He was so busy at work that he was late for his niece's engagement ceremony. The 37-year-old man walked quickly, followed by two men as his accomplices.
In the Corner family, Jared had the highest position. No one could contradict his words. Everyone feared him. The power he had made everyone bow down to him. Moreover, the business he owned was able to support the country's economy.
"This way, sir." An officer gave Jared directions. He led the way to the engagement party being held at the hotel pool.
The man with the stern forehead frowned when he arrived and saw that the guests were more focused on something in the pool than enjoying the event. He had heard rumors of Caroline's impending death.
Jared was surprised when he heard Caroline's name mentioned. He wondered what was going on. Because he knew Caroline as Jake's girlfriend for the last few years.
Jared looked at his nephew, who seemed to be laughing with another woman in his arms. Now Jared understood what had happened. He wasn't surprised that everyone just laughed and watched when someone was about to die. He understood what the rich people around him were like. No one had a heart.
Jared took off the black tuxedo that wrapped his body. He rolled up his shirt sleeves and jumped into the center of the pool. Everyone was surprised to find a man jumping into the pool just to help Caroline, who was considered trash and worthless.
"Isn't that Mr. Madison?" A woman asked incredulously.
Who would have thought that Jared would jump into the pool just to save a worthless life?
"There's no way Mr. Madison would jump into a pond just to save that woman!"
"Even if he cared, he would have at least asked the guards. He wouldn't have intervened."
"You're right, maybe it was just a prankster looking for attention."
The invited guests exchanged comments.
Jared carried Caroline, who was already limp and unconscious, to the landing. The man looked very cool and charming when his muscular body was wet, and his muscles were clearly visible.
"Oh my, it really is Mr. Madison."
They all fell silent as Jared laid Caroline down on the tiled floor by the pool. The atmosphere, which had been noisy, was now suddenly quiet as no one dared to make a sound at all.
"Uncle, when did you return? Thalius said you were out of town." Jake asked in confusion. The man stepped closer.
Of all the family Jake had, only Jared could attend the event. Everyone was too busy with their own business.
Jared did not answer. He pumped Caroline's chest vigorously, hoping that her heartbeat would return. He even gave her an artificial breath, then pressed Caroline's chest again. He did this over and over again.
"You don't need to do that, Uncle. Just let her die." Jake said it casually.
Jared turned to look at his nephew sharply. He had spoiled Jake too much, so Jake had grown into a man who lacked empathy and acted as he pleased.
"What will you do if she dies? Shut up the cops with your money so you don't go to jail." Jared asked sharply.
Jake was silent; he was at a loss for words. Even if he had an answer, he didn't dare go against his uncle's words.
"I don't want the name of the hotel to be tarnished because there was a death here." Jared emphasized. He performed CPR again and again.
After trying for a long time, Caroline finally coughed with a lot of pool water coming out of her mouth. She was breathing again, although her body was still very weak.
"Oh my God, she's finally waking up too." Jared muttered.
Caroline didn't believe she could survive death. She thought she would never survive. Because no one cared about her.
"Uncle, you saved me, but why?" Caroline asked weakly. She had no strength at all.
Jared didn't answer; he was about to get up when Caroline suddenly hugged him tightly.
Everyone was stunned. Jake even chose to step back because he didn't want to take any risks. Because he knew how temperamental his uncle was. No woman had ever been able to touch Jared, let alone hug him like that.
"Thank you, Uncle. Thank you for giving me life. I couldn't believe that you would save a life that was worthless. Jake had thrown me away like trash, and I felt that life was no longer worth living. But you made me feel that my life is precious. I will do whatever you want." Caroline said it with a sob. She hugged Jared's body tighter and tighter. She cried until she sobbed.
Jared was silent. He didn't feel anything when he gave artificial breath by putting his lips on Caroline's lips. However, the hug he got, as well as the cry Caroline gave, made his heart suddenly beat very fast. He suddenly stiffened in place.
"Caroline, how dare you hug Uncle Jared? Let go of your hug, because you are trash. You'll only dirty Uncle's body!" Emily said it sharply.
Jared's little heart was touched. He didn't know what had happened before he arrived at the party. However, he could guess after hearing Emily's words.
"You intend to kill yourself?" Jared asked seriously.
Caroline shook her head. "I fell into the pond when I was going home. I can't die; if I die, who will take care of my parents?" The woman said it in a hoarse, trembling voice.
Jared nodded in understanding. "Tighten your arms around my neck." The man said softly, then rose to his feet with Caroline's body in his arms.
"Uncle, what's-" Jake's speech stopped before he could finish.
"Get the car ready; we're going to the hospital!" Jared ordered Thalius, the man who was his accomplice.
"Yes, sir." Thalius quickly ran to do what Jared wanted.
Jake was speechless. He couldn't believe what had happened. How could Jared be more concerned with other people's businesses than his nephew's?
"What's wrong with Uncle Jared, Jake?" Emily asked anxiously.
"I don't know either." Jake replied anxiously.
"What has that woman done that Mr. Madison would jump into the pool just to save her? I didn't even dare to dream that Mr. Madison would kiss my lips, even if it was just to give me artificial respiration."
"She's very lucky."
"She must have done a trick."
The nasty comments were exchanged after Jared and Caroline disappeared from sight.
Jake could only stay where he was with a puzzled look on his face. He had no idea what had happened. How could Jared, who he knew was against women, do such an act to Caroline? He wondered in his chest
"Uncle, I'm really grateful for what you've done for me tonight. I don't know what to repay you with. You even paid the hospital bill." Caroline said it sincerely. She looked at Jared with her beautiful eyes. Those blue eyeballs looked so beautiful; they matched her long blonde hair.
Jared was silent for some time. Caroline will be hospitalized for the night. The doctor said she could be discharged tomorrow if her condition allowed.
"It's not all free." Jared said then.
"I understand. I'll pay for everything after I recover and get a job." Caroline smiled in response. She didn't know Jared very well, but she had heard Jake talk about him often. She understood that Jared's attitude was not that good.
"You said you'd do whatever I wanted, didn't you?" Jared asked reassuringly.
Caroline nodded. Jared had saved her life, so she had to return the favor.
"Work for me. You'll be my personal assistant, accompanying me wherever I want. Tomorrow, you come to my office in a thigh-length black span skirt, topped with a tight white shirt. Do not button the top two buttons on the shirt." Jared said it firmly.
"But-" Caroline hesitated a little. She was scared because Jared asked her to come in sexy clothes. She was not used to wearing such revealing clothes.
"You have to return the favor, don't you?" Jared stared with his right eyebrow raised.
Caroline was silent. She had promised to do whatever Jared wanted. There was no way she would refuse when Jared asked her to do something.
"I'll give you a first salary of fifty thousand dollars."
"Fi-fifty thousand dollars?" Caroline repeated the sentence nervously. How could this be possible? She knew the salary of an assistant intern was not that expensive. This was many times the actual salary. If she worked for Jared, she would be able to help pay off her parents' debt.
"Give him my card." Jared ordered Thalius.
Thalius quickly handed Caroline a business card. "It has the address of Mr. Madison's office. I'll be waiting for you tomorrow morning at ten in front of the lobby door."
Caroline accepted the card hesitantly. She was still hesitant to accept Jared's offer.
"I want you to dress up nicely." Jared said, then walked out of the room.
Caroline could only stare in confusion until Jared and Thalius disappeared behind the door.

At ten in the morning, Caroline arrived as promised. However, she did not heed Jared's request to come in sexy clothes. She wore black material pants and a white shirt with black stripes. Her slightly wavy blonde hair was tied up to make it look neat.
Despite her casual appearance, Caroline can't cover up her beauty at all. She looks radiant this morning.
Thalius waved when he saw Caroline get out of the taxi. The well-built man immediately showed them the way to the elevator that would take them to Jared's office on the fifth floor. Caroline couldn't believe that Jared was the CEO of the cloud company. The head office that Jared held was in a luxurious building with 21 floors.
"Do you always welcome new employees like this?" Caroline asked Thalius, as he was being very nice to her this morning. This was their second meeting, so they didn't know each other yet.
"I'm just carrying out the duties assigned by Mr. Madison. If I'm asked to be nice, I'll be nice. And vice versa." Thalius answered as he was.
The elevator stopped when they arrived at the fifth floor. Thalius led the way down the hallway to Jared's office. When they arrived, a female employee came out of the room looking disheveled. Her hair was a mess, and some of the buttons on her shirt were open. The lipstick on her lips also looked very messy.
What made Caroline even more alarmed was when she saw the expression on the woman's face. She looked so upset and angry. She began to wonder. She wondered if the female employee had been forced to serve Jared in there. Imagining that made Caroline even more afraid. She clenched her hands tightly to cover her nerves.
"Sir, Caroline is here." Thalius said as he knocked on the door.
"Come in!"
Caroline took a deep breath, then let it out slowly. She stepped inside after Thalius had entered first. She was amazed when she noticed the man's study. It was spacious, grand, and filled with expensive items.
"I want you to fire that woman!" Jared said this as soon as Thalius stood in front of him.
"Yes, sir." The man nodded, then moved away.
"Have a seat." Jared looked at Caroline so tenderly.
Realizing she would be left alone with Jared, Caroline became even more afraid. She was about to turn around and follow Thalius out of the room, but Jared's words that asked her to sit down immediately made her turn around and take a seat in the chair across the table. She sat facing Jared.
"This is the file you'll be working on today. You've got this data, then set up my meetings with the clients." Jared handed Caroline several folders containing files.
Caroline accepted the handout. She still sat there, staring at Jared as she waited for her next order.
Jared frowned, giving Caroline a confused look.
"Okay, I'll go." Caroline rose to her feet once she realized she had to get to work.
"There are unwritten rules that you must abide by." Jared said as Caroline was about to touch the doorknob.
"What is it, Uncle? Uh, Sir." Caroline was at a loss as to what to call Jared.
"Never flirt with any man. You are not to speak to any male employee other than Thalius and Donny. Those two are my confidants. If you need anything, search for them if I'm not available to you."
"Yes, sir." Caroline replied, even though she did not understand what Jared meant. She quickly went out and looked for her desk so she could quickly analyze what Jared had given her.
