ELEANOR'S POV
With each passing moment, I felt his dark and piercing gaze bore into my soul, his patience running thin.
Quickly, I suppressed the pain and signed the papers then I pushed it slightly to him.
Desmond took the papers and scanned the document with meticulous care as if confirming if I truly signed the papers.
After he had exited the room, I collapsed onto a chair and rubbed my heart that clenched at the thought of the divorce.
Picking up my phone, I dialed my best friend's line who answered the call at the first ring. "Taylor, please can you pick me up at the house now?" I asked with my voice choking as I talked.
"What's the matter?" Taylor asked, his voice laced with concern.
"I'm fine," I'll explain everything to you when we meet, I said dismissively.
I went ahead to pack up my belongings into my box ensuring I did not take a dime from Desmond's house and waited for Taylor to arrive.
Taylor arrived in an hour .
"What's going on ?" Taylor inquired after I told him about my divorce.
"Ele, you know you can always confide in me and my doors are always open to you" Taylor told me.
I thanked Taylor for always being there for me though I felt guilty that I am always a bother to him.
Due to my father's betrayal, I couldn't go back to my family as my father was the mastermind behind my predicament, so I was left with no choice than to move in with Taylor.
Few days later, Taylor wrapped my thin and fragile body in a tight embrace, willingly to let me go. I chuckled as I deliberately cleared my vocals to grab his attention.
After a while, I was freed from Taylor's grip. I thanked him as I took my luggage and went over to the waiting line to board my flight.
I looked down from the plane with a glint of sadness in my eyes at the city that held lots of memories to me.
Hours later, the long flight came to an end when the plane landed in China.
I dislike long travels, but I had to go on this one to heal and take a break from all the dramas in New York.
I breathed a sigh of relief as I got my luggage at the baggage claim area and exited the arrivals gate.
Thankfully, Taylor made arrangements for someone to pick me up at the airport and help me around the city till I'm conversant with the city.
I saw a young, beautiful lady holding a placard with my name on it. I walked up to her and introduced myself as we went to the car park.
"China is so vibrant and stunning!"I exclaimed, feeling the gentle breeze chilling my skin with excitement as I threw my hands into the air to feel the gush of wind run through my face.
For once, I felt a sense of freedom and contentment that I've not had seeped through me as I took in the new breath around me.
Taylor has always known how to put smiles on my face. I requested him to get an affordable Villa for me to stay in for the meantime as I intended on enrolling in a college again and developing myself but he went ahead to buy the villa over for me and also refurbished the villa to my taste.
The documents and keys were evidence for this great gift. I couldn't afford to take this huge gift from him without repaying him back for his kindness.
I spent my few weeks in China freelancing while searching for a suitable school with a cheap tuition fee for me to enroll in. I took a lot of tests in a lot of colleges hoping to get accepted into one.
My dream has always been to complete my college and get my degree but my scheming father didn't give me the opportunity to complete my college education, which I dropped out of due to lack of funds.
These past few days, I have been having morning sickness and nausea. After I became unconscious in the bathroom, I decided to visit the doctor for a check-up.
Series of tests were run on me, I anxiously waited for the results to be ready.
"Excuse me Miss, can you join me in the consultation room please?" The doctor requested.
Anxiously, I followed the doctor into his office and took a seat.
"Your results are ready, Miss and you are medically fit."
I asked the doctor what was wrong and what could be the cause of those symptoms with worries evident in my voice.
I hate to fall sick as I wasn't a fan of medications or injections, so I really prayed in my heart that it shouldn't be anything complicated.
My heart kept pounding as I looked at the doctor flipping through the pages of my files with meticulous care. The suspense was too much for me to bear, so I had to break the silence.
"Doctor, please can you tell me what my result says?" I asked, my voice filled with desperation.
The doctor opted to reveal the result to me with my husband.
"Miss please I would love to reveal this result to you when you are with your husband because of clinical antics," the doctor stated.
I explained to him that I'm divorced and do not have a family for now as he could go ahead to interpret the result to me.
"Miss! As I said earlier, you're medically fit but rather your test results proves that you are two weeks pregnant!"
"Wait! What?."
DESMOND'S POV
I walked into my hotel room after a long day to rest and find a helpless young lady coiled up in a ball on my bed.
I looked around the room in confusion, wondering why she was on my bed.
After I was refreshed, I decided to join her in bed even though I had no intention of messing with her.
Lying on my back and staring at the ceiling while engaged in my own thoughts, I never knew that the young lady on the bed could make such a move.
I stiffened as I felt a thin and petite figure wrap my body with her little and short hands.
Our bodies were entangled with each other with a spark of unknown emotion seeping through me as I tried to control it even though I found it hard to ignore.
I've been with a lot of women who were more beautiful and sexier than this strange woman on my bed but I've never lost control of my emotions which was strange.
Carefully, I disentangled our bodies as I planned to sleep on the sofa but the woman was awake anyways and all over me.
I found it strange as I wasn't disgusted at her seductive moves that looked unskilled, rather I was concerned when I realized how hot she was when we fell back into the bed. My eyes darkened as I realized that she must have been drugged with an aphrodisiac.
I called a doctor to come attend to her while I fed her with liquid to reduce the effect of the drugs.
The doctor arrived at the hotel and attended to her.
The effect of the drugs wear off after the injection that was administered to her.
I saw myself caring for this strange girl, a behavior that struck me too. I helped her to change into one of my night wear as there were no feminine wears in my room.
The following morning, I left the hotel very early at dawn to attend some important business meetings.
On my way to the office, I couldn't help but think about the strange woman that I left on my bed even though I felt attracted to her.
I didn't want to pursue any relationship with her or anyone at the moment.
My phone buzzed from an incoming call, I picked it up to answer the call.
"Grandpa!" I was tensed as I stood up abruptly to answer his call. His stern voice ran through the phone.
"Okay," I replied finally as the call ended.
Hurriedly, I left the office and went back to the family mansion to meet a strange man with the woman from the other night in the living room with my grandpa.
The tension in the room didn't go unnoticed by me when I stepped in but I ignored it and greeted my grandpa before clutching down on the sofa beside my grandpa.
The silence in the room was penetrating into my soul and I didn't like it a bit when my grandpa was so cold.
"Grandpa, you sent for me," my voice rang in the room as it broke through the silence. Grandpa looked up to me as he told me to be patient as he was expecting another guest.
My eyes glint with excitement and concern as my grandpa has never been the type to expect visitors, so I was surprised and my curiosity increased.
After hours of waiting, a familiar young lady walked into the mansion, her face fell when she saw her father in the room.
I couldn't help but wonder if this was the guest my grandpa had been expecting.
I hoped that she didn't cause any troubles I thought to myself as I stole a glance from my grandpa to see his reaction just to find him so welcoming.
"Wilson came here to get some bribe from me to keep the scandal you had with his daughter from the media, but I think it will be quite unfair to the victim that's why I sent for her to inform y'all about my decision." Grandpa said.
I massaged my temples as I could foresee what my grandpa was about to do. This was an opportunity for my grandpa to fulfill his wish as he has always been clamoring on me to get married.
Patiently, I waited to hear my grandpa's verdict from the horse's mouth.
"Des, I'm sure that you know this young lady whom you got entangled with last night?" Grandpa threw the rhetorical question at me. "My stance on this matter is that you'll get married to her."
"Wait! What?." Even when I saw this coming I still can't believe grandpa will ask me to get married to someone I don't even know
At this point I was raging with anger as I tried to explain to my grandpa that nothing happened between us and that I found her drugged, but my grandpa failed to render a listening ear.
"Des, the better you understand that there is no going back on this matter for you,in fact if you don't get married in the next three days I'll seize all your inheritance."
My grandpa has never been hard on me and I wondered why that was different and why he had to be so difficult with me.
I stomped out of the mansion angrily and drove off to my Villa after I glared at him.
While taking a dip in the water, my grandfather's words kept ringing in my head. I left the bathtub, dressed up and left the house after I had made a call to the lady to meet me at the bureau.
I couldn't imagine how desperate the bitch was to marry me as I found her already there. I'm sure she had planned something with her scheming Dad but I was ready to give her the kind of marriage she deserves.
We met at the bureau and got a marriage certificate under my terms. I got to know my wife's name during the signing for the first time.
I hate to refer to Eleanor as my wife but that was what she was and I hated her the most for that, she didn't deserve to be my wife in any way.
Finally, I heaved a sigh of relief as the marriage certificate was given to us.
But I will make her regret getting married to me, i will make her life a living !
DESMOND'S POV
My heart has been filled with regrets as I remember how badly I treated Eleanor.
After our divorce, I came to realize how important she was to me. I also realized the impact she had made in my life while we were married.
I hated my pompous self for not realizing the gem I married. I also failed to admit that I fell in love with her at first sight at the hotel.
I've been to the family mansion several times to visit my grandpa and ask for his help to find Eleanor but he never yielded to my pleas as he said it was my punishment for throwing such a good woman out.
Grandpa was so disappointed in me and also missed Eleanor each passing day but she was no where to be found.
I feared that I may lose her forever.
Eleanor had suffered in our marriage of six months. I saw her as my wife in papers. I humiliated her on many occasions, especially at the company's dinner party.
My marriage with Eleanor has always been a facade to the public and my grandfather but a joke to me.
I hated her for siding with her father to get on my bed and made me end up in a forceful marriage with her.
I expressed my hatred in every way I could, even though deep down in me I felt that I was being too much. Sleeping out became my habit but now, I spend all my hours in Eleanor's room lucid dreaming about her.
The scents and old belongings that were left behind by Eleanor became my companions, as I sought comfort in them.
While I and Eleanor were married, I purposely got a mistress who was an A-lister in the entertainment industry just to shame Eleanor, though the relationship was secret to the public but I did rub it off on Eleanor's face.
The relationship got exposed to the media on the eve of the company's dinner night and I knew someone was behind it though I couldn't find out who it was.
Eleanor stormed in anger into the event hall and asked, "Desmond, how could you be so inhumane to be cheating on your wife and show it off to the public?"
For a minute I was lost, but I took a glance at the TV set that was above us to see the news of my infidelity circulating in the media.
A surge of anger ran through me for a moment but that didn't give the conniving bitch the right to judge me nor insult Ava who cannot be compared to her in any way.
"Eleanor!" I called out to her.
"You don't have a right to judge me or Ava here.
Ava is my mistress as you said and you are my wife and I hope you understand for once that you'll never be like her," I admitted shamelessly not minding the people present.
After Eleanor had left the company embarrassed, I addressed the people.
"Sorry, for what happened this evening but I do hope that whatever happened here remains here. This should not get out to the public in any way." I warned everyone present.
The party was dismissed but I ensured my men deleted any recording of the little drama between me and Eleanor before anyone left the building.
Once the party was over, I ignored Ava and went home to rest.
Thinking about these old and painful memories of Eleanor made me look like a piece of shit. I really hope I had given our marriage a chance as she and grandpa suggested.
The company was at the verge of crumbling as I wasn't in the right frame of mind to run the affairs of the company, so I had to step down as I appointed a trustee to stand in as the CEO and manager in my absence.
While I was absent from the company, I turned the country and the neighborhood upside-down in search of Eleanor but I couldn't find her.
I stationed my men across all borders and airports to find Eleanor but no news was found about her. I became desperate and frustrated with each passing day.
"Hello," a sweet female voice rang in my ears. I opened my eyes to find Eleanor smiling sweetly at me.
"Eleanor! Is that you?" I asked unbelievably.
"Yes darling, it's Eleanor, Grandfather told me how frustrated you have been so I came to find you."
Hurriedly, I rushed towards Eleanor with an open arm to embrace her. When I got to where Eleanor had been standing, she suddenly vanished as I hugged the air.
Eagerly, I looked around the room as I kept shouting at the top of my voice for Eleanor to come out of her hiding place while searching every corner for her.
I opened my eyes as the sun rays blinded my eyes.
Sadness enveloped me as I realized that it was all a dream that I could only wish to come to reality.
When I stepped out of the room, I heard voices in the room as I was surprised because I lived here alone.
What if Eleanor is back and it wasn't a dream.
Eagerly I went down to the hall to meet my mother and a woman who looked like Eleanor.
Yes, you heard me right, Eleanor's doppelganger. Even though I had never been that close or friendly with Eleanor.
I could still identify her myself, Eleanor was 5'4 ft tall but here this woman was shorter than Eleanor and was using heels to make her look taller.
Looking at this woman's face who tried to fit in as Eleanor, I became pissed.
Seeing the scars and stiffness on her face which she tried so hard to hide with makeup, I chuckled as it was evident that she went through the hazel to look like Eleanor.
"Mom, when you are done you can leave with this lookalike." I said as I walked back to my room ignoring her tantrums.
When I got to my room, my phone buzzed in my pocket. "Boss, we've found madam at the airport," my man reported.
