In the CEO's office of X Group,
Lincoln Jiang was lost in thoughts staring at the phone screen for a long time.
"Mr. Jiang, it's almost time," reminded Lucy Xia, his secretary. Beads of sweat formed on her forehead in fear of offending him.
Lincoln Jiang came back to his senses. He loosened his tie while responding to her, "You can leave now. I am yet to finish some work."
"What? But Mr. Jiang, it's a meeting with H Group!" Lucy Xia uttered in disbelief,
"So what? Cancel it!" Lincoln Jiang almost barked at her. "If anyone dares to call me tonight, I'll fire them. Do you understand?"
Lucy Xia opened her mouth but couldn't form any words. Her shoulders drooped realizing there was no way his decision could be changed.
She thought it better to keep her mouth shut and oblige his words.
Vicky Qiao breathed nervously standing before the glass door of Joy Hotel.
She quickly fixed her makeup watching her reflection in the glass door, then pushed the door open and walked inside.
There was a commotion going on in the hall when she entered.
She had a good appearance with her black lace dress that hugged her slim figure perfectly. In a single glance, she looked like a porcelain doll. Delicate long legs complimented her beautiful body curve. The moment she entered, the hall went quiet and all eyes shifted their focus on her.
Meanwhile, observing everyone's attention solely on Vicky Qiao, Lincoln Jiang looked displeased. Dissatisfaction covered his face as he watched her approaching him.
Lincoln Jiang quickly stood up, took his suit and put it on her.
"We're meeting after three years, right? I see, you've become a gentleman." Vicky Qiao smiled. She had her sunglasses on, so it wasn't possible to see if the smile reached her eyes and was genuine.
Lincoln Jiang noticed she had changed a lot since he last saw her. She looked tanned and was thinner than before; she looked more attractive.
"You are late." Although his heart was fluttering, he put on a calm appearance.
"Yes, I was stuck in a traffic jam on the way here," Vicky Qiao responded with a smile and tried to hide her nervousness.
She was so nervous and God knew how fast her heart was beating right now. She had to lie to him, because she couldn't just tell him that she had been hesitating at the door to the hotel for near half an hour.
She didn't know whether she made the right choice by coming here today.
She sipped some water and apologetically said, "It's my fault. Mr. Jiang. Please let me treat you to dinner as an apology from my side."
Vicky Qiao was acting different
and Lincoln Jiang found it annoying.
He couldn't help but ask, "You seem to have changed."
"People change over time, don't they?" Vicky Qiao countered quickly. "Or else it'd be really difficult to survive in a cruel society."
She smiled looking at him.
A surge of disappointment washed over his heart.
His enthusiasm to see her was instantly diminished.
Three years ago, she left without saying goodbye to him. He spent half a year looking for her crazily. Then, he finally gave up.
"Why did you come back?" Lincoln Jiang leaned back in his seat and pretended to be indifferent. "It couldn't be for just catching up with each other, could it?"
"I have booked a private room. Let's go there and talk while eating." Vicky Qiao smiled, which made Lincoln Jiang distracted for a moment. He remembered that hot summer.
"Sure." Vicky Qiao indeed looked like she had lived a good life during the past three years. Then, he also shouldn't live in the past memories. He needed to move on.
A frown never left her face after they settled inside the pre-booked room.
Her plan tonight was to get him drunk and sleep with him. Unexpectedly, she didn't have to do anything. He began drinking on his own.
She indeed got lucky today.
Lincoln Jiang had always been good at drinking, but today he drank more than he normally did as he was not in a good mood. Soon he got drunk. At one point, he looked at her with his blurred vision and asked, "Vicky, don't you have a heart?
You left me three years ago. Then why did you come back?
Tell me, why?"
His words made Vicky Qiao smile bitterly.
"Do you think I was willing to come back?"
she murmured. If she could, she'd have stayed away from him for the rest of her life, but now it was different.
She stood up and walked toward him. "Mr. Jiang, you are drunk. You need to take a rest now. Let me help you go upstairs and get a room where you can have a rest."
The room where she had intended to take him was already prepared. She took Lincoln Jiang to the room and laid him on the bed.
Then, she took off her clothes and hugged him.
It was not the first time they had made love. Even though it had been three years, Vicky Qiao knew all the sensitive points of him.
Under her seductive enchantment, Lincoln Jiang fell into her trap and took the lead from her.
Their lips smashed against each other and fire ignited. They couldn't hold back anymore. Their bodies that had been missing each other's touch for three years crashed into each other. They let themselves flow away along the storm of passion.
When Vicky Qiao woke up again, it was already the next morning.
As soon as she opened her eyes and turned her head, her eyes met his. Lincoln Jiang wrapped his hand around her and pulled her closer with satisfaction and greeted her.
"Morning!"
Although he was drunk last night, he remembered everything that had happened. The fire that was rekindled after three long years couldn't be ignored or forgotten.
After last night, his belief was even stronger that he still had feeling for her.
'I'm screwed.'
These was the first thought that crossed her mind.
She had planned to leave secretly last night when Lincoln Jiang was still asleep. But the warmth of his embrace messed up her intention. She couldn't believe she fell asleep in his arms.
But now she had no choice but to greet him.
"Good morning."
The room had the evidence of last night's events. The air was thick with the smell of sex, and the messy clothes here and there reminded the two of what happened. "Miss Qiao, what are you thinking?"
Lincoln Jiang asked jokingly.
Compared with his calmness, Vicky Qiao looked much more flustered.
Her gaze wavered as she blinked and looked away from him. She tried to appear relaxed now.
She sat up, reached for her wallet and took out money from it. "This is your earning for last night's performance. The amount of money should be more than enough."
The sudden absurd act of her was like a slap in Lincoln Jiang's face.
She considered him as a man-whore.
"What do you mean?" Lincoln's face turned pale all of a sudden. "You want to use money to solve this?"
"What else do you think?" Vicky asked with a smile as she pulled the quilt to cover herself.
A sense of aggressiveness showed on her face, but she tried hard to calm herself down. "Do you even want me to marry you?"
Before Lincoln could reply to her question, she giggled and continued, "Even if I want to marry you, I know that you don't like me. Besides, since when have you become so stereotyped?
We are both adults. Are you not satisfied and happy with what happened last night? I have never asked you to take responsibility for me, so you don't really have to worry about that." Her lips curved into a charming smile.
"Also, don't forget that you already have a fiancee. If Elin knows about this, do you think she will just let it go?
Let's just consider what happened last night as a consensual activity. We don't owe each other, okay?"
Lincoln felt like something pierced through his heart upon hearing Vicky's words. It was a little painful.
He looked at her for a while before he blurted out maliciously, "We haven't seen each other for three years, and I can say that you have become much more charming now than before. You have changed a lot, especially when it comes to dealing with men. I believe that you can't be this good at seducing men without practicing it. Is that what you have been doing in the past three years?"
With a terrible look on his face, he held her chin and squeezed it a little tight.
"Even though I used to look at your face for a half a year before, I still wouldn't get tired of it. A lot of men must have been pursuing you these years. Are they also as good as me in bed?"
Vicky's heart twitched. She felt like countless needles had been pricking it.
Her chest tightened, and she was suddenly out of breath.
"Of course not." She still managed to smile. "No one can be compared to you. That's the reason why you've never been out of my mind in the past three years. I've longed for you, so I did my best to be able to sleep with you again."
"Fuck off!" Lincoln cursed through clenched teeth.
Without a word, Vicky picked up her clothes on the floor and hurriedly put them on.
Lincoln had told her to go out, so she ran away without even looking back at him.
But as soon as she stepped out of the room, she helplessly leaned against the wall and cried.
She had been crying for a little while now when she remembered her phone. She turned it off last night to avoid any disturbance. Now that she turned it on, she found out that she had a lot of messages from her best friend, Geneva Gu. She was about to call Geneva Gu when her phone rang. The moment she answered it, Geneva Gu's voice came. "Thank God, I finally find you."
Vicky wiped her tears and asked, "Geneva, why are you such in a hurry to see me? Is something wrong with Queenie?"
"She..." There was a trace of hesitation in Geneva Gu's voice. "I'll just wait for you at the hospital." She hung up without even giving Vicky a chance to speak again.
Vicky felt like her heart was in her throat. She hurriedly went out and rushed to the hospital. Geneva Gu was waiting for her at the entrance. "Where have you been? Queenie had a fever the whole night. I had been calling you since last night, but your phone was off."
"How is Queenie now?" Vicky asked. The news that her daughter had a fever made her legs weak, and she almost fell to the ground. Fortunately, Geneva Gu was quick enough to hold her.
"Don't worry. Queenie is fine now. Her temperature has already gone back to normal. But Vicky, where have you been last night?" Geneva Gu tried to get to the bottom of the matter with Vicky, but she deliberately avoided the question. Instead, she said, "I'm going to see Queenie now."
When Vicky entered Queenie's ward, the little girl was still asleep. Her face looked so pale. Vicky's heart ached. If only she was the one who was sick!
"She looked for you the moment she opened her eyes this morning. It took a long time before I convinced her to go back to sleep," Geneva Gu said with a sigh. "Vicky, tell me the truth. Did you go to him?"
Vicky leaned against the window and looked at Queenie. But she didn't answer her question.
"Why don't you say something? Am I right?" Geneva Gu was a short-tempered woman, so she was easily angered by Vicky's silence. She grabbed Vicky's arm and pulled her closer. There, she had a clear view of the hickeys on Vicky's neck.
With a frown, she removed the hair that covered Vicky's neck. Looking at the marks on her neck, her face flushed with rage.
"Vicky, have you gone out of your mind? Why did you go to him? How could you..."
Geneva Gu was so angry that her whole body trembled. Vicky smiled bitterly and said, "Am I a bitch in your eyes now?
You're right. I am such a bitch.
But Geneva, you know how important Queenie is to me. For her sake, I can do anything. I don't care if I will have to kneel down in front of him or sleep with him." It didn't matter to Vicky whatever Geneva Gu thought of her. All she cared about was Queenie.
"Even if you do this, it's still not a guarantee that you can save Queenie. What if you didn't get pregnant?" Geneva Gu asked.
"That can't be true," Vicky replied firmly. "I have been counting the days. Yesterday was within my ovulation period. I'm sure that I will get pregnant."
She then held Geneva Gu's hand and added, "Geneva, Queenie is my life. You know that. Even if the chance is less than one percent, I will still give it a try. I won't even hesitate to offer my life as long as she recovers. But I'm so scared. I'm afraid that even if I lose my life, I still can't save her."
Vicky began to cry hysterically.
She didn't want to do what she did last night, either. If only she could, she wouldn't want to have anything to do with Lincoln.
But fate forced her to do so.
Geneva Gu looked at Vicky's sad face, and she couldn't help but sigh. She also felt sorry for her best friend.
Vicky had been through a lot these years, and Geneva Gu knew how hard life had been for her. Queenie was the only one that Vicky had, so she understood that Vicky couldn't just watch her daughter suffer.
"Okay, I'm sorry. Stop crying now." Geneva Gu held Vicky in her arms and gently patted her back. After a while, Vicky finally calmed down a little.
"You must be very tired. Go home, take a shower, and get some rest. Don't worry about Queenie. I will stay with her," she said while wiping Vicky's tears.
"Thanks, Geneva. But I want to stay here. I want Queenie to see me when she wakes up." Vicky forced a smile. "How about you? Why don't you go home and rest first? You've stayed with Queenie all night. I know that you haven't gotten enough sleep."
"I'm fine," Geneva Gu replied with a frown. "I am Queenie's godmother. Stop treating me like an outsider."
Seeing that Jack looked serious, Vicky didn't insist anymore. After all, she really had to go home to change her clothes. She couldn't let Queenie see her in such a kind of outfit. "Okay, I'll go home to change my clothes. But I'll be back soon."
"Vicky..." Vicky was about to leave when Geneva Gu stopped her.
She stopped and asked, "What's wrong?"
Geneva Gu hesitated for a long time before she finally asked, "How about Hayden? Have you already thought about how to explain this to him?"
Vicky subconsciously clenched her fists when Geneva mentioned Hayden Lu's name. She smiled bitterly and said, "I will find a way to explain everything to him."
She then turned around and left. When she arrived home, she hurriedly changed her clothes and went back to the hospital to take care of Queenie. When Queenie woke up, she saw Vicky lying on the edge of her bed, sleeping soundly. She quietly pulled the quilt from her body and covered Vicky with it.
At that time, Vicky had a bad dream. In her dream, she was watching Queenie leave. She felt so helpless and depressed, trying to stop Queenie.
"Queenie...Queenie..." Vicky suddenly woke up, screaming.
"Mom, I'm here..." Queenie quickly held Vicky in her arms and comforted Vicky like an adult. "Did you have a nightmare?"
Seeing Queenie holding her, Vicky finally felt relieved.
"Queenie, how are you feeling now?" she nervously asked as she looked at Queenie up and down. She was still scared that her dream would come true.
When Queenie nodded, she held the little girl tightly and said, "You scared me to death."
"Mom, I'm fine." Queenie tried her best to look calm. "When can I go home?"
"Queenie, listen to me." Vicky spoke in a soft voice to make Queenie feel more comfortable. "You are sick now, so you need to stay in the hospital for a couple of days. The doctors need to check up on you and observe your condition. But promise, as soon as you fully recover, I will immediately take you home. Will that be okay?"
"But Mom..." Queenie pursed her lips, looking aggrieved. "I've been in the hospital for half a month now. When can I get better?"
"As long as you listen to the doctors, you will recover quickly." Vicky forced a smile. But she didn't dare to look at Queenie's eyes in fear that the little girl would see through her.
She was afraid that her eyes would expose her clumsy lies to Queenie sooner or later.
"So... can I ask Nora to accompany me?"
"Yes, of course." Nora was Queenie's doll that had been with her since she was born. She treated it as her own sister, so she was very much attached to it.
Vicky helped Queenie lay back on the bed and tucked her in the quilt. "As soon as Geneva arrives, I'll go home to get Nora, okay?"
"Okay." Queenie agreed and nodded obediently.
When Geneva arrived, Vicky had a chat with her for a while before she went back home.
Soon, Vicky was home. But the moment she opened the door, she was utterly shocked. Their living room was in a mess. There was a bottle of red wine left on the table. She saw a woman's sexy underwear on the floor.
Judging from the current state of the living room, she could already tell what was going on.
With a cold expression on her face, she calmly went upstairs. She was about to open the bedroom door when she heard a familiar voice from the inside. "Hayden, when are you going to break up with Vicky?"
"Baby, why do you have to mention that woman's name while we are currently enjoying the pleasure?" Hayden Lu replied between gasps. Anyone who could hear his voice would blush. Vicky put her hand on the doorknob, but she didn't move.
"If you don't give me an explanation today, I will break up with you," said the woman in a dissatisfied tone. "I'm your girlfriend. But every time we see each other, we need to sneak around. I'm getting sick and tired of it. Ahhh..."
The dissatisfaction in the woman's voice was replaced by a flirtatious moan. Hayden Lu smiled and said, "Your words disappointed me just now. I have to punish you well today."
"No, no, no." The woman stopped Hayden Lu. "You must give me an explanation today. You have to decide now. Who will you choose, Vicky or me?"
"Why do you have to bother asking? Isn't it obvious? I'm choosing you, baby." Hayden Lu smiled coquettishly. "You are gentle and beautiful. And most importantly, you know how to satisfy me in bed. You can give me the pleasure that I always want to experience with a woman. Unlike Vicky, she has already given birth, but she still pretends to be reserved and timid. She doesn't even allow me to touch her. So why should I choose her?"
As expected, Hayden Lu's words made the woman felt very satisfied. She hooked her arms around his neck and said, "Well, you'd better make it clear to Vicky immediately. I've already had enough of our furtive days."
"But..." Hayden Lu hesitated for a while. But when he saw that the woman's expression changed, he coaxed her at once, "Baby, don't be angry. Let me explain first, okay?"
He held the woman in his arms and comforted her, "You know that I have a set of photo shoot next month. No matter how bad Vicky is, we can't deny the fact that she has exceptional photography skills. She is a famous photographer, so I believe that with her, I can become more famous. Baby, for the sake of my career, please bear with it a little longer. Once the shoot is over next month, I will break up with her, okay?"
"But baby..."
"Baby, I promise you." Hayden Lu hugged the woman. "You still have time to think about other things. It seems that I haven't worked hard enough."
Vicky stood still outside the door. She had heard the entire conversation of Hayden Lu and the woman. But instead of hating them, she felt relieved.
Finally, she didn't have to think about
how to explain things to Hayden Lu anymore.
Upon realizing that Hayden Lu and the woman were about to make love again, and thinking that Queenie was still waiting for her in the hospital, Vicky pushed the door open.
Hayden Lu and the woman screamed in shock.
"Vicky? Why are you back?" Hayden Lu looked at Vicky guiltily. But Vicky just ignored him. When he saw that she just picked up the doll and was about to leave, he got up and grabbed her arm. He didn't care if he stood there naked. "Vicky... let me explain."
"What else do you have to explain? I've clearly heard and seen everything," Vicky sneered.
"You've heard everything?" Hayden Lu held Vicky's hand. "Let me explain. It's not what you think..."
"Stop it!" Vicky shook off his hand.
She didn't expect this to happen. In the past three years, Hayden Lu had been good to her. He treated her and Queenie very well. She had even thought that he was the one she could rely on for the rest of her life. Fortunately, the truth was revealed to her now.
Vicky didn't want to have anything to do with Hayden Lu from now on.
"We are over now," she sneered. "Please clean my room and take all your stuff with you. Make sure that I won't see your face again when I come back."
"Vicky, please give me a chance to explain." Hayden Lu nervously held Vicky's hand again. He wanted to explain, but she obviously didn't want to listen anymore.
"If I were you, I'd keep the last bit of my dignity." Vicky smiled bitterly. "Don't worry. I will still do your photo shoot. I know that it's what you're worried about. Consider it as my payment for the years that you have taken care of Queenie and me."
Vicky paused for a second before she continued, "My sister has a bad temper. Be careful when you are with her."
"Vicky, stop pretending to be the protagonist here." The woman who had been sitting silently on the bed finally butted in.
