Chapter 1 Long Lost Tit For Tat

It was a quiet night. There was a slight chill in the early spring air. The same chill gripped the silver-grey BMW, which was moving at a leisurely pace.

"Clerk, is there no other way?"

Mary Yin's concern was obvious. She didn't want to have any contact with that man anymore. Their relationship had ended three years ago.

Clerk Yin lit a cigarette silently. He dragged a puff and exhaled the smoke. Frowning, he said, "We can't refuse."

His voice was heavy and helpless.

"But Nova is more competent than me," Mary Yin protested. Thinking of the commotion on the film set this afternoon, she couldn't help but laugh bitterly and shake her head at the irony of it. The one who wanted to do it was refused, while the one who didn't want to was chosen.

She was very annoyed.

She had been selected on the recommendation of her adopted brother for a modeling assignment for the KV perfume advertisement by the Ye Group. It so happened that the CEO of the Ye Group was the man she had been trying to avoid for many years.

"Sorry, I thought..." Clerk Yin's voice was full of guilt. He closed his eyes and said, "I thought it would help you. After all, it is the latest advertisement of the Ye Group, which is usually the most sought-after assignment for any model."

Mary Yin said glumly, "Do you think he will let me go?

Maybe he's looking for an excuse to banish me."

Clerk Yin slowly puffed out the smoke and said miserably, "It's my fault."

Mary Yin narrowed her eyes and asked coldly, "What if I cancel it?"

"It's impossible!" Clerk Yin snapped immediately. Realizing he must have sounded harsh, he immediately looked at his sister, but she didn't show any expression.

Her beautiful face seemed to be bathed in gold under the glow of the street lamp. "I know," she said in resignation.

"Mary, I didn't mean..." Clerk Yin tried to explain himself, but was interrupted by her.

"It's okay. I know." She said slowly, "Give me the material."

Clerk Yin's lips moved, as if he wanted to say something more, but when he saw her numb expression, he simply handed over the folder to her.

Lost in thought, Mary Yin stayed in the car for a while and finally opened the door to get off. Her movements were very elegant and graceful, a result of her habit as a professional model for many years.

Looking at her straight back, Clerk Yin was a little worried. Finally, he called, "Mary."

She stopped, turned her head, and didn't say anything.

Clerk Yin was at a loss for words. He moved his lips wanting to say something to ease her pain but eventually all he could muster was, "I'm sorry."

Waving the folder in her hand, Mary left, her high heels clicking loudly on the marble steps.

They had no choice, because Clerk was just a general manager of the company. She understood this and naturally couldn't argue anymore.

Exhausted, Mary went back to her room and took a shower. She dried her wet hair and walked into the bedroom. Only a bedside lamp was on now in the room, which threw light on the magazine on the bedside table, revealing the man's face.

The handsome face immediately made her heart sting. She picked up the magazine. The man on the cover page was smiling gently and was full of confidence. His slanted eyes glinted wickedly and his thin lips made him look roguish but attractive. This same pair of lips had issued her a threat three years ago.

"Mary, I will make you regret."

His words sent a shiver down her spine.

The memory of that scene still caused Mary to tremble involuntarily. She suddenly tightened her grip on the magazine and noticed the bold title: "Analyzing the dark horse of the business world, the powerful rising star, the youngest CEO of Ye Group, Marts Ye."

Seeing his name, Mary's heart stopped for a second but was revived by a sudden ringtone.

Startled, she looked at the phone and saw her friend, Win's name flashing on the screen. "Mary, are you in a bad mood today? How about going to the night club to unwind?"

Her friend's suggestion sounded inviting. She paused to consider it for a moment. Then looking at the magazine on her hand, she said, "Okay."

In the bar.

The crowd was dancing rhythmically to the deafening music. Mary, with her perfect figure and enchanting little black dress, stood out among the crowd.

She had already drunk several glasses of wine. Her body was moving as if it had a mind of its own. As she swayed her hips, she cut a striking figure in the club. She was glowing in the dim light and her sexy moves caught the eyes of a group of muscular men not far away.

Getting tired, gradually Mary stopped. The alcohol was making her heart race so she went to find some water to drink.

However, just as she stepped off the dance floor, she was stopped by several men. A hoarse voice hovered above her head. "Hey, beautiful! Would you like to have a drink with me?"

What a cliche!

Mary rolled her eyes. She was not in the mood for any more drinks.

What was more, they were so... Ugly!

The corners of Mary's mouth twitched. She stared at the strong men in vests and simply said, "Sorry, I'm not free."

They didn't expect that Mary would refuse outright without a moment's hesitation. They felt humiliated. After all, they were well-known in this night club. How could she refuse them so rashly?

One of the men with a beard tried to convince her, "Miss -"

"Shh!" Mary interrupted him before he could continue talking.

She smiled and held her finger to her lips. "I've drunk too much. Don't bother me again, and --"

Mary paused and looked at them up and down. Then she smiled sarcastically and remarked, "I don't like people with simple minds and overdeveloped limbs."

Nobody here recognized her, so she didn't have to worry about being polite.

"What did you say?" The muscular man in the lead was shocked. When he realized that he had been insulted, he immediately became angry. "Damn it! You shameless woman!"

He was really simple-minded.

Mary never spoke rudely to anyone so this was a first for her.

She smiled sardonically, but did not retort. Instead, she turned on her heel and left. However, she was stopped once again before she could take another step.

Chapter 2 Troublemaker

"Will you drink it or not?" The muscular man persisted, picking up the glass.

"Huh!" Mary, who was getting a little tipsy now, didn't take his threat seriously. Her judgment was impaired thanks to the copious amount of alcohol she had consumed. She looked at the glass in front of her and challenged him, "What if I don't drink it?"

The leader of the group was infuriated. He shoved the glass of wine towards her mouth and roared, "You have to drink it even if you don't want to!"

He nodded to his henchmen. They understood and immediately walked over to Mary. Her face turned red.

Did they really think that they could bully her so easily?

Snatching a bottle of wine, she smashed it on the bar counter and pointed it at the thugs dashing towards her. "Are you threatening me?" she asked.

The group of men froze. They were intimidated by the imposing manner of the tough woman. Being a model, she was over 175 meters tall. Although she was slender and thin, her manner was not inferior to that of these muscular men.

The bearded man in lead didn't see it coming. He was stunned at first and then enraged. He shouted at his minions, "Two useless losers! Does a bottle scare you?"

He couldn't believe that three men couldn't deal with one bitch. Embarrassed by their boss's taunts, the two men sprang into action.

They seized the wine bottle from Mary's hand, caught her wrist, and dragged her forward.

She flew into a rage and yelled fiercely, "Let go of me!"

Mary was not a pushover and she would not tolerate their vulgar demands anymore!

However, the rogues didn't take her words seriously as they outnumbered her. The bearded man had already picked up the glass and was about to shove it down her throat when suddenly Mary plucked the wine glass from his hand and threw it on the guy's face.

Splash!

Once again, the muscular man was caught off guard by Mary's violent reaction. He was stunned for a moment and when he realized what had happened, he was furious! He was about to take a step forward to teach her a lesson, but was punched hard on his face.

"Ah!"

Mary didn't understand why she was hearing screams all of a sudden. At the same time, the grip on her wrist loosened and she fell into a pair of strong arms.

She raised her head and saw the man from the cover of the magazine. However, he was scowling and his eyes were dark.

Marts Ye?

Mary blinked her eyes. Was she hallucinating because she drank too much?

She shook her head in disbelief. The man's face became more blurry, especially in the dim light of the night club.

'This can't be real, ' she thought to herself.

The good-looking man's mouth was set in a grim line when he saw Mary's hazy eyes. Her body was reeking of alcohol!

Mary had no idea what was on his mind. She just blinked and pouted. "Well, long time no see..."

There was a hint of irritation in her tone. After all, she came to the night club to distract her mind from this man. Now that the source of the problem had come to her, she had no intention of playing nice.

However, Marts Ye's brows were knitted and his expression was sour.

How could she be in the mood to greet him in this state?

He was so annoyed in his heart that he started to laugh. A mocking smile appeared on his handsome face. "Well, do you still remember me?"

Never once did he imagine that they would meet in this way three years later. Had she become like this in the past three years?

The idea aroused great dissatisfaction in him as soon as it popped in his mind. However, the next second, the little woman broke away from his arms and smoothed her long wavy hair disdainfully.

"Of course I do."

She looked at Marts Ye with misty eyes and felt a sting in her heart.

Thinking it was all a dream, she decided to enjoy herself!

An enchanting light flashed in Mary's eyes. She stretched out her slender arm and draped it around the man's neck. Her finger slowly swept across his cold skin and a seductive smile played on her red lips. She smirked, "Do you also want to buy me a drink?"

The intoxicating fragrance of gardenia in her hair filled his senses, making his eyes darken with desire. Three years had passed, but he still had no resistance to her.

'Damn it!' He cursed in his heart. Finally, he took a deep breath and held her slender waist in his arms.

The three bullies were already stunned and now their prize catch was being swiped away right from under their noses! They certainly wouldn't let that happen. They rushed forward, ready to attack when Marts Ye's posse of bodyguards stepped up like a wall between them.

Despite being strong themselves, the henchmen were still scared of facing so many well-trained bodyguards.

Marts Ye, who was about to leave, stopped, turned his head slightly, and said, "Deal with them."

No sooner did the words leave his mouth than the bearded man fell to the ground with a thump.

Mary was already asleep in Marts Ye's arms by the time he carried her to the car, but her frown deepened.

Marts Ye noticed how light she was even though she was so tall.

As he laid her in the car, there was obvious displeasure in his eyes. He took off his suit jacket and covered her with it. Then he fastened her seat belt before returning to the driver's seat.

Even in her sleep, Mary felt warm all over. Clutching the jacket, she pulled it tighter around her contentedly. She was sleeping so soundly that she didn't notice what he was doing.

Marts Ye started the car and his eyes narrowed. As he drove, the yellow street lights flashed past the window. In the diffused light, his profile turned hazy and his face darkened.

'Is this how much Clerk cared for her all these years?'

He glanced at Mary from the corner of his eyes. She had brushed the dark brown eyeshadow on her eyelids, which concealed her beautiful eyes at that moment while she slept. Even her cherry lips wore a different shade of red. But all this heavy makeup couldn't hide her natural charm.

Damn it! His mind was wandering into dangerous territory.

Suddenly, Marts Ye got a little angry and stepped on the brake.

They had been apart for three years and he still couldn't keep his hands off her.

He gripped the steering wheel hard for a long time before the car stopped.

Suddenly, something vibrated in the car. He followed the sound and finally found her mobile phone with her friend's name flashing on it.

He turned to ensure that Mary was still sleeping, and then he squinted and slid the answer button.

Chapter 3 Confess

Mary was awakened by her mobile phone's ringtone. Her head was splitting as she fumbled around to find her phone. "Hello?" she croaked, her voice still hoarse after drinking last night.

Clerk breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing her voice. "Where did you go last night? You took so long to answer the phone right now. We have to talk about the contract today!" he said anxiously.

His barrage of questions finally woke her up. She sat up immediately, but felt dizzy because of the sudden overexertion. Groaning, she rubbed her temple. "I drank some wine last night. I'll come to the office right away."

Hanging up the phone hurriedly, she lifted the quilt only to find that this was not her room but her friend's.

Why was she here?

She had no time to sit and ponder. Rushing to the bathroom, she started cleaning up. Perhaps Win had heard Mary as she came in from outside. "Mary, are you up?" she asked.

"Yes..." Mary said with a toothbrush in her mouth. They often stayed over at each other's places so Mary knew her way around her friend's house. Thinking of the person she had to meet today, she could not help but frown slightly. "Win, can I borrow a coat?"

When she arrived at the company, it was already half-past nine. Seeing her slightly swollen eyes, Clerk could not help but sigh. Opening the car door, he said, "Let's go!"

Feeling guilty for being tardy, Mary nodded and got into the car. Soon they arrived at the headquarters of the Ye Group, but before she could see Marts, she encountered a problem.

"Sorry, the boss wants to see Miss Mary in private." The secretary at the door smiled perfectly.

Clerk frowned at once and said, "I'm the general manager and Mary's brother. I have the right to accompany her to see your boss."

"I'm sorry, boss's orders! He only invited Miss Mary today,"

said the secretary with the smile firmly plastered on her face.

What a polite snake! He didn't expect Marts to choose a secretary who was exactly like him.

With a charming smile on her face, Mary held out her hand to stop Clerk, who was about to argue further. "It's okay, Clerk. Don't make things difficult for Lisa," she said coolly.

"But..." Clerk's eyes were full of worry, but he saw Mary grinning and was somewhat pacified.

"It doesn't matter. I'll manage." Mary tried her best to pretend that she didn't care. She gave him a reassuring nod and followed Lisa in.

The CEO's office was painted in the same color that he had always liked.

"Clerk is too indulgent with his artists. You have no sense of punctuality. How can you be late for the contract signing?"

Marts rebuked as soon as she entered. Mary frowned and looked up to find the man sitting on the chair staring daggers at her.

They hadn't seen each other for three years and he had become colder over the years. He folded his hands on the desk and sneered at her.

Mary clasped her hands under the desk, determined to not let him see her nervousness. His expression made her heart hurt, but she didn't show it. Forcing herself to appear cool and collected, she said, "If you're unhappy with me, you can get a replacement."

Her comment made Marts's expression turn sour.

He raised his eyebrows and his voice unconsciously. "Replace you?"

It was easy for her to say that.

"If I change to another model now, Clerk's efforts will be in vain," he remarked snidely.

Mary bit her lip and didn't answer. Right from the beginning, she knew that he would make things difficult for her, but she didn't expect him to turn on Clerk too.

Taking a deep breath, she calmed herself down. She couldn't afford to get into a conflict with him now, or it would do no good to either of them.

However, Marts was not happy with Mary's silence. It was too late for her to become obedient now!

Last night's events came rushing to his mind and it made him irate. He was disappointed with the way Clerk took care of his sister. What kind of a brother allowed his sister to go unaccompanied to a night club. Last night, if he hadn't appeared in time...

He closed his eyes. He hated to think about what would happen if he wasn't there to rescue her from those goons. Blue veins were pulsing on his forehead. He tried hard to suppress his anger, but failed.

"Clerk offered me his sister for his gains. It was a great effort."

Mary was shocked and hurt by his words. His mocking smile made her grimace inside. There was undisguised disgust in his slanted eyes.

He was hell-bent on creating trouble for Clerk!

Mary was annoyed. Even if he was upset with her, why was he targeting Clerk?

Unable to bear it any more, she retorted, "Mr. Marts, please watch your words. Don't slander others at will!"

"Slander?" His voice rose. Tapping his fingers on the table, he squinted at her. "You threw yourself at me in the night club last night. Didn't you want to seduce me?"

Mary was flabbergasted.

She recalled the scenes from last night and vaguely remembered seeing him in the night club, but she thought it was a dream! Her face was flushed with embarrassment.

She had done a lot of terrible things last night and forgotten. She didn't even remember how she ended up at Win's house this morning.

Mary hesitated for a moment, but said nothing.

What could she say when she was wrong? It was a big mistake to get drunk!

She bit her lip remorsefully and Marts immediately caught this small action. He smirked, not intending to let her go. "What? You finally remember?" he taunted.

It was not until he saw the surprised look on Mary's face that he realized that she had a blackout about last night. No wonder she strode in so confidently this morning.

The loaded question made Mary feel even more humiliated. She cringed inside but quickly regained composure. With a bright smile, she said, "If I remember correctly, you were the hero who saved the beauty last night. Am I right? Mr. Marts, are you still in love with me?"

Her question instantly ignited anger in his heart. He suddenly walked up to her and grabbed her wrist.

Pulling her into his arms, he held her chin, and asked in a low voice, "What? Are you admitting that you tried to seduce me last night?"

Mary was choked and couldn't say anything for a moment. Then she looked deep into his dark eyes.

The air between the two was crackling with heat and even their breaths were intertwined as a heavy silence filled the room.
