Letting The Odds Win

Author: : background21
Genre: Romance
Odds! Wouldn't it be odd to not have something to fight against like suppose just some odds that we have to face? We can't just escape them for sure. I mean numbers can't be complete with just even series, right? Just the same way, having odds has been a normal part of anyone's life. Yeah, sometimes these can be weird too. Still, they can be overcome and many can be successful in doing that also. Alas! Some may not be able to do that. A couple had let the odd win as them staying together was the odd thing and it is not because they want to but because they are tired. For how much longer would two people try to fight the odds without help from outside? And hence the failure resulting in separation. If the odds are that powerful then what if them getting back together is odd this time? Well, let's see if this time odds will win or not.

Chapter 1 Prologue

"Sha!" he whispered entering the cabin, but she didn't lookup.

"Yes?" she asked in a normal voice.

"Sha! How are you? I have been going..." he couldn't finish when she lifted her head to stare at him.

"I am here working, Mr. Kolgha. I don't want you blaming me if something wrong goes with that also." She commented making him flinch and she flinched inside.

She decided not to be bitter then why is she doing this? She thought taking a deep breath while he composed himself.

"I don't want to work here, but like you reminded me in the phone call, this is my duty according to the contract and that is for next one year. Let's just ignore everything and concentrate on our work." She suggested and even passed a smile.

"Sha!" he whispered, walking near to her table, but she shook her head.

"It's all in the past and call me Anusha or Ms. Bindla." She suggested but he shook his head.

"We need to talk, Sha... Anusha." He said to which she sighed rubbing her forehead.

"Satvik! I actually don't blame you for what you did. I mean for the way I ruined your life, what you did was so simple." She said looking at him.

"What are you saying, Anusha?" he asked, frowning with a confused look.

"I was behind you to have our dating life more public when you were not comfortable. Hell! I forced you to marry me, didn't I? No wonder you threw me out of your home." She replied, trying to control the tears.

"Don't! Don't say such lies. It was never like that. I was..." he couldn't finish when she suddenly stood up.

"If I shouldn't say such things then don't give me a reason to. Don't bring our past anymore near me otherwise I will dissect it as I wish. Now, if you can excuse me, I need to work and finish even the work for the time I was on leave too." She said gesturing the door to him.

But he just stood there looking at her in shock while she stared at the door and when he finally started walking off, she calmly added, "I am not asking you to leave as a tit for tat for the way you showed me. Whatever I do or say would be a normal thing and nowhere near aimed to do anything with you. So, please take those thoughts out of your mind."

When the door closed, she fell back down on the chair, feeling the energy drained out with just five minutes. And she knows so well he thought she was taking some petty revenge when she showed the door.

What can she say that she too learned to understand what people are thinking or at least what he is thinking after living with him for all those months. This is going to be a long journey.

Chapter 2 One

*Anusha Pov*

"Let me sleep, Bhai." I screamed, covering my face with the pillow, but he continued to knock on the door.

"Why are you torturing me?" I asked, opening the door to which he smiled and pushed me back before entering the room.

"I am not going to sit alone with them to bear their company. You can't escape it just because today is a holiday." He replied, shrugging and started checking my music collection.

"Then you go and sleep." I mumbled, sitting on the bed.

"Nope! Then he will start giving me a class on how a business man should spend the leisure days." He pointed out making me grin.

"A businessman is a businessman even in his sleep." I repeated the Dad's words.

"Exactly! Now, get ready and come downstairs. Otherwise, I am not going to give you this ticket." Saying that he took out a paper making me scream.

"I didn't get one then how did you?" I asked, reaching near him but he lifted it up.

"Connections! Now, let's enjoy the breakfast and in the evening I will even come along with you to the movie." He suggested.

"I can go with my friend." I suggested back.

"It is night show." He stated as an explanation and left my room while I sighed.

After getting ready, I walked downstairs to see Mom and Dad already in their places and I so I knocked on Bhai's door on the way to which he immediately opened the door. We both walked downstairs and took our places in the dining area.

"Did you talk to the client?" Dad asked looking at me.

"Yeah! He is ready to listen to our deal." I replied, taking the bread slice.

"Are you ready with the deal to show the client?" he asked, turning towards Bhai and all he got was a nod.

"Tell him to be proper at the meeting and get this client somehow." Dad said looking at me.

"Dad! He is best." I assured him, but he just shook his head and continued to have his breakfast.

"It's a good thing you woke up early. We need to go shopping today." Mom suddenly said making me frown.

"Mom! I can't come today and what is the need?" I asked her frowning.

She looked at me like I said some very bad joke, but she shook her head in the next minute in disappointment.

"That's why I asked you to attend the kitty parties with me. Anyway, we need to upgrade ourselves with the fashion developments. And you are really good at telling the proper ones that would suit me." She pointed out smiling.

"Mom! I am actually going out today. And I don't know how long will it take for the shopping." I said with a smile.

"Date?" she asked, smiling and there was a complete silence around us with Dad looking at me.

"Anyone we know?" he asked frowning.

"You know him too well, Dad." Bhai finally entered the conversation.

"Really? Who is that?" he asked with a relieved expression.

"Me!" when Bhai uttered that I couldn't help but laugh at Dad's expression.

"Ansh!" Dad warned, but Bhai just gave him an innocent expression.

"You don't know me well, Dad?" he asked with wide eyes and I wish he would stop that because I felt like laughing out loud seeing his drama.

"I am going to work." Saying that Dad stood up and gave a nod to Mom.

"Mom! Don't you think Dad should have stayed at home at least on Sundays?" I asked frowning at her.

"Why would he do that? Work is more important and even I need to meet the charity organization today." Saying that she stood up and walked off in the opposite direction.

"That's a relief!" Bhai said, sighing and leaned back with relaxed expression.

"Don't you worry that they are becoming even more distant?" I asked him frowning.

"Isn't it a good thing? I can't hear either both of them talking about society or about some new people of our standards." He replied closing his eyes.

"But I had fun today." He added grinning.

"You should have joined the drama school." I said, kicking his leg with mine.

"I wanted to when I was in school, but Dad just said a future business man never does drama. So, I decided to unleash all that on them." He said winking at me making me sigh.

"Just don't forget about the movie because of one of your dates." I said getting up to which he chuckled.

"Don't worry! Today I am very free with a fresh break up made yesterday, but I can't say the same about tomorrow. Who knows, I may meet someone today night only?" he asked and laughed seeing my expression before walking off.

"God! I want to meet some normal people in my life like completely normal." I said, looking up and walked off to my room to hear some music to forget all this.

*Satvik Pov*

"Stop that nonsense." I grumbled passing the living room, but my Bhabhi continued to watch the television not reducing the sound.

"Why are you scolding my daughter-in-law?" Mom asked, reaching the dining table with a frown holding the dishes in her hands.

"Who will watch a soap opera in the morning?" I asked taking my place.

"Because of the match we both missed it yesterday and you only suggested we record it and watch later." She pointed out and served the paratha.

"I gave a suggestion when you both started fighting with Dad and Bhai disturbing my reading." I pointed back that I was not involved with match at all.

Before she can open her mouth, we heard footsteps and saw Dad and Bhai walking towards the dining area which means she will go quiet making me smirk.

"Stop that! Who watches soap opera in the early morning?" Dad asked passing the living room and then I heard the television getting switched off.

When Bhabhi walked towards the table, I glared at her, but she just gave a shrug before helping Mom with the serving and everyone took their place.

"I will assume you are coming for tomorrow's meeting." Dad asked but I stayed quiet.

"It would have been a normal one, but seems like we have competition tomorrow. So, it would be better if everyone is present and be ready for any extra work." He added.

"Do I need to be there? My work doesn't involve in presenting the idea to the client." I pointed out to which he frowned at me.

"If any new idea needs to be given, then should we call you and wait for you to reach?" he asked making me grit my teeth but I stayed silent.

"Don't talk about business having breakfast and that too on holiday." Mom stated making me smile to myself.

She is always in first step to stop Dad from saying anything to me. Well, the perks of being Mom's favorite, but at work Bhai has it for being Dad's favorite.

"Thank you, Mom!" I said, hugging her when Dad and Bhai left the dining area finishing their breakfast to discuss about tomorrow's meeting.

"You can thank her better by doing one thing." Bhabhi offered reaching near us.

"How?" I asked her frowning.

"Every day we miss our shows because of your Dad and Brother. So, we both thought of having a television in your room. You are not interested in it. So, can we?" she asked smiling.

"Why don't you have one in one of your rooms?" I asked them frowning.

"Then they will occupy that along with living room's. Can't you do this for your poor mother?" Bhabhi asked, gesturing my Mom and Mom gave that sad look.

"Fine, Fine! When you look sad, you know that I will do everything." I said, pulling her cheeks and she smiled.

"But I don't want Dad to think I asked this for myself. It is your duty to get one and don't use my name." I added to which Bhabhi promised and I shook my head walking away.

Now, I will not have peace, even in my room to have a good time reading a book. But if it for Mom, then it doesn't matter at all! I thought, smiling and reached my room to finish the important books before the roommate, the television enters my room.

Chapter 3 Two

*Anusha Pov*

"Bhai! Help me here." I asked, frowning at him trying to not let the files fall down, but he is engrossed in his phone call.

"Wait! I am trying to get my Ex leave me." He replied with an irritated tone while I glared at him.

We both were already late for this meeting and Dad will kill both of us if we don't enter inside this minute. But this brother of mine is not even opening the door and to top of that talking to his Ex.

"Here!" I heard a voice and saw someone holding the door.

I glanced at the person whispering, "Thanks!" while he completely opened the door to which he gave a smile and I smiled back.

"Mr. Satvik Kolgha! How nice of you." I heard Bhai's voice and turned to see his face filled with amusement.

"Bhai!" I whispered glaring at him.

"Your sister?" the man asked, gesturing me to Bhai with a frown after which he walked inside but kept the door opened.

After Bhai and I walked inside, I saw that the man is sitting with Mr. Sumit Kolgha and his son Jatin. Then I remembered what Bhai called the man, making me realize he is the rival.

"Got it?" Bhai asked, looking at my face and I nodded feeling sad.

"Why is the rival so handsome?" I whispered making him gag.

"I need to give you another class about boys." He mumbled, shaking his head and I chuckled, but calmed down when Dad sent a pointed look towards us.

"Just like you he doesn't attend much, but seems like you got the fortune of meeting all the rivals." Bhai whispered sitting beside me.

"You men and your rivals." I mumbled, shaking my head.

"Please! Don't involve me with them. I have other worries than to think about them." He snorted, making me raise my eyebrow.

"Like your Exes!" I pointed out and he smirked nodding.

"Now, can we start the meeting?" I heard a disapproving tone and glanced up to meet Mr. Sumit's gaze who is definitely not my fan.

And with that the meeting started while I tried to take out as information as I can to use it for persuasion, but then I glanced away from the projector to see the person who looks like he wants to be anywhere but here.

The Satvik! I repeated his name in my head and as if feeling my gaze, he glanced at me but I immediately turned away.

At that moment I felt lucky to be in a dark room because of which he or anyone wouldn't have been able to see my blush at being nearly caught.

Still not getting a decent lesson of not to stare, I glanced at him, but my eyes met his back and we both sat frozen.

"Anusha!" my Dad's voice broke our gaze and I turned to see Dad looking at me expectantly and I just understood I need to talk.

As I already noted down a few points, I talked to them about that looking at the client presenting the best way I can remembering Bhai's presentation.

I sighed in relief when Dad gave a nod of acknowledgement and smirked when Kolgha's didn't say anything. I turned to see Mr. Sumit and Mr. Jatin glancing at Satvik but he didn't say anything.

And hence, we got the contract making my Dad kind of even show his joy to them. Bhai and I kept silent but we know Dad was doing enough show for us.

I glanced at the other team to see them keep on looking at Satvik with blame filled eyes. I felt bad but didn't say anything.

"Dad shouldn't have done that." I mumbled to Bhai, when we both waited for the elevator while Dad and others stayed back to talk to the client to keep up the presence.

"Oh please! If they had won, then those three would have behaved like that against us. At least we both didn't join Dad." He pointed out and I sighed, nodding before gesturing him to hold the files, but he just whistled walking inside the elevator taking out his phone and started typing something.

"I wouldn't have joined them." I heard a whisper and a presence behind me.

I rushed inside the elevator and turned around to see Satvik standing there looking at me and then gave a smile to which I smiled back.

"Want to get in, Mr. Satvik Kolgha?" Bhai asked, realizing we are not alone.

"How nice of you!" that's all he said, but didn't step in and the doors slowly closed while he gave me a last glance.

"Did he just mocked me?" Bhai asked, looking at me in shock.

"Why so surprised?" I asked him back grinning.

"Because he always stays quiet not saying anything whenever I tease him." He replied shrugging.

"I am glad he gave you back." I said, smirking to which he gasped.

"What a sister you are? Feeling happy at the humiliation of your brother." He mumbled shaking his head.

"What is the use of a brother when he can't even hold the files as a help for his sister?" I asked using his dramatics and he immediately took all the files from me grumbling.

"Now, you are such a sweet brother. And he was very rude to mock you." I said with a serious expression to which he glared at me but we both burst out laughing.

"Let's go and have a party." He offered making me frown.

"Last time we had one when we lost a deal." I pointed out stepping out of the elevator.

"That was because I wanted to skip away from Dad's lecture." He mumbled making me sigh.

"Let's go then." I said, nodding and he dumped the files inside his car but immediately his phone rang.

"Ex?" I asked and he nodded, giving a guilty expression before moving away showing me five fingers.

I sighed and leaned back on the door waiting for him, but stood straight when I felt someone walking this side.

I glanced up only to smile looking at the person and he smiled back whispering, "Ms. Anusha Bindla!"

"Mr. Satvik Kolgha!" I whispered back.

"Only Satvik!" he corrected me.

"Only Anusha!" I corrected back.

We both gave each other a nod before he walked off towards a parked car but I didn't look away. However, I definitely blushed when he waved at me before driving off.

"What happened to you now?" Bhai asked, reaching near me.

"I am thinking what will happen when a girl will make you speechless." I replied, remembering how I felt whenever Satvik stood near me.

"Never!" he said with a confident look.

"Never say never, Bhai." I said, smirking and got into his car still thinking about this interesting encounter.

*Satvik Pov*

Dad and Bhai didn't utter any single word during the whole day at work, but the moment we walked into the house, Dad threw his bag on the couch.

"What were you thinking, Satvik? Do you know how important today's client was?" he asked looking at me.

"I couldn't come up with new ideas." I simply replied.

Yeah! That's the case, but the reason behind that would be some interesting girl. But why interesting? I didn't even talk to her and I don't even know her. Still, it somehow felt interesting.

I was brought out of my thoughts when Dad continued to scold me which I finished saying, "You can't praise Bhai, when we get a deal and can't scold me when we lose one."

"Satvik! You think I am favoring your brother?" he asked with a shocked expression and everyone looked at me in shock.

"No! I am just disturbed." I replied, shaking my head to which he sighed.

"Don't be upset! There will be another deal and we will show those Bindla's what are we made of." He assured patting my shoulder.

"Lost to them?" Bhabhi asked with a shocked look and winced when everyone looked at her.

"All of you freshen up, we will have dinner." Mom said, gesturing her immediately saving Bhabhi from her slip.

That day we all had a silent dinner and everyone walked off to their rooms while I sat in the garden lost in my thoughts.

"Upset?" Mom's voice reached me and she sat beside me.

"Actually, no!" I replied honestly.

"Why? You always feel upset when he talks like that, right?" she asked smiling.

"Not today!" I replied, shrugging to which she chuckled.

"But I will still give my dialogue. He is just upset because you all lost the contract." She repeated her evergreen dialogue.

"He is more upset because he lost it to the rivals." I pointed out and she nodded in acceptance.

"Why should we continue such rivalry, Mom? Why don't we stop it?" I asked her frowning.

"Satvik! Now, there is peace at home and I want to have that always. If we sit and talk about the rivalry, then that peace will be disturbed and I will not like it." She replied with a serious expression.

She was very rarely this serious before me but now hearing her I can understand how against it is to even think of removing this rivalry.

Well, why does it matter to me whether there is a difference between these two families or not? I didn't think about it before and I need not think of it now. With that aim, I smiled at her nodding and we both left for our rooms.

"There you go, all my thoughts." I whispered to myself lying on the bed with a frown.

I don't even know why am I thinking this much about the issue when I know I shouldn't after seeing my Dad's reaction, and Mr. Bindla's attitude and Mom's words.

But she has a beautiful smile! I thought, smiling to myself and immediately shook my head to clear the image before my eyes.

Satvik! Focus on the next deal and make sure this time your mind doesn't get blocked and please next time don't think about her or her smile no matter how beautiful it is.

It is beautiful, isn't it? I asked myself smiling and immediately slapped my forehead.
