It was the end of the year, and Frimery was much colder now than in former years.
Stella Walsh was in the kitchen, busy cooking for the whole family.
While watching TV in the living room, her mother-in-law, Zoey Burton, urged her impatiently, "Are you not done cooking yet? What time is it now? Do you want to starve Adrian and me? You are really useless! You can't already get pregnant with a child, and you can't even do the housework well? I don't understand why my son married a loser like you."
Upon hearing these harsh words, Stella didn't retort. She could only lower her head.
She had been married to Waylon Burton for six years, and Zoey always scolded her for not getting pregnant.
If only Zoey knew the real reason. The truth was Waylon had never had sex with Stella once.
When the dinner was ready, Zoey and Adrian Burton, Waylon's younger brother, came to the dining room to have dinner. Stella could only eat in the kitchen.
Zoey never allowed Stella to have dinner with them at the same table, saying she would lose her appetite seeing Stella's face.
In the evening, a Maybach stopped in front of the villa.
Stella trotted to the balcony and looked downstairs.
A tall and slender man in a suit got out of the car. He was handsome and had an outstanding temperament. He was even more handsome than the big stars on TV.
Waylon seemed to sense that someone was looking at him, so he looked up. Then his gaze landed on Stella.
His eyes emitted coldness and ruthlessness.
Stella was already used to this kind of gaze. The corners of her mouth curved into a smile, but it didn't reach her eyes.
When Waylon entered their room, Stella had already prepared the bathtub for him as usual. She said, "Honey, your grandma has been at the convent for almost a month. In the afternoon, she called and said she wanted to pray for you..."
Before she could finish her words, Waylon interrupted, "We need to talk. I have something to tell you."
Stella turned her head and looked at him.
Waylon stared at her with dark eyes that had only indifference and alienation. There was no tenderness in them at all.
Then he said in a deep voice, "Ayla will be discharged from the hospital, and she's staying here. You should move out tomorrow."
Stella felt cold in her heart.
What Adrian had said was right.
"What if I don't?" Her voice was as light as a feather.
Waylon looked at her with a frown.
Stella had always been obedient to him. This was the first time she had disobeyed him.
He said coldly, "Don't forget how you managed to marry me six years ago."
Stella sneered inwardly. How could she forget it?
Back then, Ayla Wagner had a car accident. It was Stella who called an ambulance and took Ayla to the hospital. The doctor said that Ayla needed a blood transfusion, and it so happened that her blood type matched Stella's, so Stella donated blood to her. To thank her, Waylon granted her a request.
At that time, Stella's only request was to marry Waylon.
This had been her dream since she met him for the first time in high school.
When the doctor said that there was no possibility for Ayla to wake up again, Waylon agreed to Stella's request.
But since the day they got married, Waylon had always been cold to Stella.
Stella raised her chin and looked straight at Waylon without flinching. "I'm your legal wife. Why should I move out because she is coming back?"
Waylon suddenly fixed his eyes on her, and his face slowly darkened. He looked terrifying. "Why? Because Ayla said that you hit her six years ago."
Stella was stunned for a moment. Then she smiled bitterly. "If I say I didn't, would you believe me?"
Waylon approached her step by step and finally cornered her. He asked coldly, "Do you think I will believe you?"
His eyes never left her face. And they were full of disgust and hatred.
"You evil woman! How I wish I could let you suffer what Ayla has suffered," Waylon said through clenched teeth. His face was full of coldness.
Stella was shocked by the cruelty she saw in his eyes.
They had been married for six years and living under the same roof. But until now, his heart was still as cold as ice.
"It wasn't me," Stella retorted and pursed her lips tightly.
Obviously, Waylon didn't believe her. He looked down at her and said coldly, "You are a smart woman. You should know what to do."
After saying this, he left, leaving only silence and coldness in the bathroom.
Stella looked at herself in the mirror. She looked pale and exhausted.
Was this really her?
She used to be an energetic and proud woman. But now, she was so humble in this relationship.
Wasn't it ridiculous?
After standing there for a long time, she let out a long sigh and murmured to herself, "It's time to let myself go."
The next day, Waylon woke up early and took Ayla to the hospital for a reexamination.
Stella stood in front of the mirror, staring at her reflection. Then she took off the kitchen apron she had worn for six years, changed it into a white dress, and went downstairs with her suitcase.
Adrian was in the living room, sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed and watching TV. "Hey, Stella! Why do you have a suitcase? Where are you going?"
Stella just glanced at him indifferently without saying anything and walked to the door.
Adrian noticed that something was wrong, so he hurried forward, grabbed her suitcase, and scolded angrily, "Are you deaf? I was talking to you. Didn't you hear me? Have you cleaned all the rooms? Is breakfast ready? Where are you going so early in the morning?"
Adrian bombarded Stella with a series of questions. He was only sixteen years old, but he didn't show any respect to her. He even ordered her around.
He was simply a devil who made Stella suffer a lot.
In his eyes, she was nothing but a servant.
Stella yanked his hand away from her suitcase and said coldly, "Listen, I won't serve you anymore."
Although she didn't use much strength, he shouted, "Mom! Mom, come over here! She hurt me."
"What's wrong, Adrian?"
Zoey hurried downstairs and her face turned livid. She grabbed the duster and was about to hit Stella with it. "Damn you! Bitch, how dare you hurt my son! I will kill you!"
Zoey had hit Stella before. But for Waylon's sake, Stella endured it and never fought back.
This time, however, she could no longer tolerate Zoey.
Stella quickly grabbed the duster, pulled it hard, and threw it to the floor. "Don't you dare!"
Zoey was too stunned to react.
When she came back to her senses, she yelled, "Stella, how dare you! I will ask Waylon to divorce you."
In the past, Stella always avoided conflict with Zoey for the sake of Waylon's grandmother, Angelina Burton, and she didn't want to be disliked by Waylon.
She used to be afraid that Waylon would divorce her. But now, she didn't care anymore.
Stella just said indifferently, "Whatever."
Then she dragged her suitcase out of the villa, regardless of Zoey's fuss.
A red Ferrari was already waiting for Stella outside. The man in the driver's seat was handsome and charming. As soon as he saw her, he waved his hand and said, "Stella, get in."
After Stella got in the car, he drove away.
The man was Wesley Clarkson, her childhood friend, who was born into a wealthy family.
While driving, Wesley turned his head and asked Stella tentatively, "Have you made up your mind?"
"I've never been this so determined before." Now that Stella was away from the Burton family, she could finally smile.
She had a beautiful and delicate face. And when she smiled, it seemed that the haze clouded her face for many years was dispelled.
Wesley sighed. "I'm honestly relieved. I thought you would waste your whole life on that family. I've been worrying about you for the past six years. Until now, I still don't understand why you would fall for that jerk."
Stella shrugged. "I don't understand it either."
"Fortunately, it's not too late yet," Wesley said jokingly. "I was thinking that if you were kicked out by them when you were old, I would take you in. After all, we grew up together."
Stella rolled her eyes at him. "Shut up!"
"By the way, here's the divorce agreement you asked me to prepare. Check it."
Stella took the document handed by Wesley and checked it casually. "I won't take anything from Waylon. I didn't owe him anything in the past, and I won't owe him anything in the future."
Then she signed it without hesitation.
Wesley couldn't help laughing when he saw the decisiveness on her face. "Wow! No hesitation at all?"
Stella put the pen away and raised her eyebrows slightly. "Let's go to the hospital."
"Okay."
----
The wards on the top floor of the hospital were exclusive to VIP patients.
Stella stood at the door to Ayla's ward and knocked. Then she turned the knob and pushed the door open.
In the hospital bed lay a beautiful woman who seemed frightened upon seeing Stella. She hid under the quilt in fear with tears in her eyes.
Waylon's face darkened when he saw Stella. "What are you doing here?" he asked in a voice as cold as ice.
Instead of answering his question, Stella took the divorce agreement from her bag and handed it to him. "Sign this, and l will leave right away."
Waylon took it and read through it. His voice became even colder as he asked, "You want a divorce?"
"What else do you expect me to do?" Stella tucked her hair behind her ear and smiled mockingly. "I know that the past six years have been hard for you. After you sign it, you'll be relieved, right?"
Waylon's brows furrowed tightly, and he pulled a long face. He didn't know what kind of trick Stella was playing.
At this time, Ayla called weakly, "Waylon..."
What she did was like a hint.
Waylon looked at Ayla. Then he turned to Stella again and said, "Let's talk about this when we get back. Ayla needs to rest. You can leave now."
Stella smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes. "I'm serious. You're going to take her home anyway. Isn't it good if we divorce? I'm sure you don't want me to get in your way."
"Stella Walsh!" Waylon's voice was cold and deep. It was as if his patience for her had reached the limit.
"She is watching. Could it be that you're in love with me and don't want to divorce me anymore?" Stella smiled gracefully.
Ayla looked at Waylon pitifully. "Waylon, what's wrong?"
Stella looked at him, waiting for him to make a decision.
"Okay, I will sign it." Waylon pursed his lips, looking extremely cold.
Stella smiled with satisfaction. She took the divorce agreement he signed, turned around, and left the ward without hesitation.
But as soon as she walked out of the ward, her tears streamed down uncontrollably.
Her six years of marriage and eight years of love were all in vain.
She was a normal human being with feelings. It would be a lie if she said she didn't feel sad.
She felt like a sharp knife was piercing through her heart, and it was extremely painful.
----
When Stella returned to the car, she became that elegant and confident woman again.
Wesley smiled slightly. "There are some good-looking men in Bliss today. Do you want to go there and have a look?"
Bliss was a place for fun and unrestrained consumption.
Stella was rendered speechless for a moment. Then she snapped, "Are you out of your mind? It's only been a few minutes since the divorce agreement has been signed."
Wesley blinked, pretending to be mysterious. "Actually, someone wants to see you there."
"Someone wants to see me? Who?"
"You'll know when we get there."
Stella thought for a while and nodded. "Okay."
Wesley had an exclusive private room in Bliss. After he and Stella entered, the person on the sofa stood up and looked over.
He was a tall man in his twenties. He had sharp facial features, dashing eyebrows, and beautiful eyes. His eyes lit up upon seeing Stella.
"Stella, it's so good to see you again."
Stella felt the young man in front of her was familiar, but she couldn't remember where she had met him before.
"You don't remember him anymore? Didn't you and your father sponsor a poor student in Highsnow six years ago?"
After what Wesley said, Stella was finally reminded of someone.
"Kenneth? You are Kenneth Glyn?"
The young man's sharp eyes softened, and a charming smile appeared on his face. "That's right. It's me."
Kenneth was a very talkative person, and Stella learned from Wesley that he was now a popular model. He had already moved out of the poor mountain area and become a celebrity who often appeared in magazines in Frimery.
In the past six years, Stella had only cared about the Burton family, so she rarely paid attention to the entertainment news. She was gratified to see that the poor student back then had turned into a celebrity.
The three chatted for a while before they prepared to leave.
When they passed the bar counter, a green bottle flew toward Stella's head.
Much to everyone's surprise, Kenneth moved faster than Stella and protected her in his arms. As a result, the bottle hit his back heavily with a bang.
"Stella, are you okay?"
Stella was very grateful. She immediately checked his back. Fortunately, he was not hurt. She turned in the direction where the bottle came from with a cold face.
Then she saw Adrian.
"Bitch! How dare you cheat on my brother!"
