Chapter 1 Shattered Illusion

Sophia's Pov

I stared at the contract in front of me, my heart racing with anticipation. I had spent days finalizing it, pouring over every detail to make sure it was perfect. I thought my husband would be proud of me, that he would finally see me as an equal partner.

But as I looked up at him, I saw something that made my blood run cold. He was sitting at his desk, a cold, calculating look in his eyes. "Sign this," he said, pushing a stack of papers toward me.

Divorce papers.

I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. I couldn't breathe, couldn't think. All I could do was stare at the papers, my mind racing with questions.

How could he do this to me? After everything I'd done for him, after all the sacrifices I'd made?

The woman sitting next to him smiled, a smug, self-satisfied smile. I recognized her instantly. She was the daughter of his boss, a woman who was notorious for getting what she wanted, no matter the cost.

I couldn't stop the laugh that bubbled up in my chest. It wasn't a happy laugh; it was bitter, full of despair.

How blind had I been? While I was pouring my heart and soul into our marriage, he was busy finding an easier path - her.

Five years. Five years of love, sacrifices, and loyalty crumbled in that moment.

The man I thought I knew, the man I had loved unconditionally, had replaced me without hesitation.

I was no longer his wife. I was just an obstacle to be discarded.

I signed the papers, my hand shaking with rage and sadness.

As I walked out of the room, I felt empty - like a part of me had been ripped away, leaving a hollow shell behind.

Days turned into weeks, and I sank deeper into despair.

I barely ate. I barely slept.

The house we had shared felt cold and unfamiliar.

Memories of our time together haunted every corner.

Then, one evening, everything changed.

I was sitting alone in a café, staring blankly at my untouched cup of coffee, when a shadow fell across my table.

I looked up and saw a man I had only heard about in whispers.

Julian Saint Clair.

The CEO of Saint Clair Industries.

Ruthless. Powerful. Untouchable.

"I believe this belongs to you," he said, holding out my scarf.

His voice was deep, his words calm but commanding.

I muttered a quiet thank you, trying to ignore the way his piercing eyes seemed to see right through me.

I thought that was the end of it, but Julian didn't walk away.

"I've heard about you," he said, pulling out the chair across from me and sitting down without waiting for an invitation.

I frowned.

"You have?"

He nodded.

"Your husband... or should I say, ex-husband... spoke about you often."

His words caught me off guard.

My ex-husband had mentioned me to Julian?

Why?

And why did it matter to him?

"I don't see why you'd care," I said, my voice sharper than I intended.

Julian's lips curved into a small smile.

"I care because I don't believe in letting good people go unnoticed."

I didn't understand what he meant at the time.

But over the next few weeks, Julian kept showing up.

At first, it was subtle - a chance meeting here, a polite conversation there.

But then it became more intentional.

He invited me to dinner.

He sent flowers to my office.

He even showed up outside my apartment one night, claiming he just wanted to make sure I got home safely.

I didn't know what to make of him.

He was everything my ex-husband wasn't - kind, attentive, protective.

But he was also intimidating.

There was a coldness in his eyes that told me he wasn't a man to be crossed.

Still, I couldn't deny the way he made me feel.

For the first time in years, someone treated me like I mattered.

Like I was worth something.

Then, one night, as we sat together on his balcony, overlooking the city lights, Julian turned to me and said the words that would change my life forever.

"Marry me."

I stared at him, my heart pounding in my chest.

"What?"

"You heard me," he said, his voice steady and calm.

"Marry me. I'll take care of you. I'll protect you. And I'll make sure no one ever dares to hurt you again."

I wanted to tell him he was crazy.

I wanted to tell him I wasn't ready.

But as I looked into his eyes, I realized he wasn't just offering me a way out of my pain.

He was offering me a chance to rebuild my life - a life where I wouldn't have to beg for love or settle for less than I deserved.

So, I said yes

Julian brings positivity Into my life.

He changed my bitterness to sweetness. I couldn't have ever Imagined that someone could get married to me after my ex- husband divorce me.

I remember when love was glooming between my ex-husband and me. He was everything back then and satisfied me with everything both materialistic and non materialistic.

He was one of the greatest man had ever know until he lose his job a year ago

Things suddenly changed

Although I still try to make sure I provide for our needs with my little penny, my husband is not satisfied and always complains about his new state of life and always wishes to go back to his old lifestyle when he used to have everything.

I tried contacting friends and loved ones for help but all was not yielding good results for me.

It was until I met a friend who introduced me to a young billionaire.

The first day I meet him was in his office and he asked me to come the next day around 7pm but not in his office but a close restaurant although I didn't want to go when I got home , I explained everything to my man and he asked to go

I went there as usual but the man was demanding for what I couldn't offer

On getting back home, I explained everything to my husband and he asked me to do it for the sake of love and if he get the offer he would be able to provide for our needs financially and we would be able to move back to our old lifestyle back then.

" I can never have sex out of wedlock " I said

" But this not cheating Sophia, it is for our own good " he said

Chapter 2 A Deceit

A Life of Deceit

John's Pov

I watched as my wife, Sophia, walked out the door, her suitcase in hand. I felt a pang of guilt, but it was quickly replaced by a sense of relief. I had been living a lie for so long, and it was exhausting.

I thought back to the early days of our marriage, when Sophia and I were deeply in love. We had met in college, and I had been swept off my feet by her beauty, her intelligence, and her kindness. I had thought that I was the luckiest man alive to have her by my side.

But over time, things had changed. I had started to feel suffocated by Sophia constant need for attention and affirmation. I had started to feel like I was living in a prison, with no way out.

That's when I met her - Emily, the daughter of my boss. She was young, beautiful, and carefree. She was everything that Sophia was not. And I was drawn to her like a moth to a flame.

At first, it was just a harmless flirtation. But soon, it turned into something more. We would meet in secret, exchanging stolen glances and whispered promises. It was exhilarating, and it made me feel alive.

But it was also a lie. I was living a double life, and it was tearing me apart. I knew that I couldn't keep it up forever, but I didn't know how to stop.

And then, the inevitable happened. Sophia discovered my infidelity, and she left me. I was devastated, but I knew that I had brought it on myself.

As I stood in the empty apartment, I felt a sense of regret wash over me. I had thrown away the love of my life for a cheap thrill, and now I was left with nothing.

But as I looked around the apartment, I saw something that made my heart skip a beat. It was a photo of Sophia and me, taken on our wedding day. We were smiling, happy, and in love.

I felt a pang of sadness as I realized what I had lost. But I also felt a sense of determination. I was going to get Sophia back, no matter what it took.

I picked up the phone and dialed Emily's number. "Hey," I said, trying to sound casual. "I need to see you."

There was a pause on the other end of the line. "What's going on?" Emily asked, her voice laced with concern.

"It's Sophia," I said, feeling a sense of desperation. "She left me."

There was another pause. "I'm sorry," Emily said finally. "But what do you want me to do?"

I took a deep breath. "I want you to help me get her back."

There was a laugh on the other end of the line. "You're crazy," Emily said. "Sophia is gone, and she's not coming back."

I felt a surge of anger. "You don't know that," I said, trying to keep my cool. "I need your help."

There was a pause. "Okay," Emily said finally. "I'll help you. But you have to promise me one thing."

"What's that?" I asked, feeling a sense of hope.

"You have to promise me that you'll do whatever it takes to get Sophia back," Emily said, her voice dripping with malice. "Even if it means hurting her."

I felt a chill run down my spine. But I knew that I had no choice. I had to get Sophia back, no matter what it took.

"Okay," I said, feeling a sense of determination. "I'll do whatever it takes."

As I hung up the phone, I felt a sense of resolve. I was going to get Sophia back, and I was going to do whatever it took to make it happen.

But as I looked around the empty apartment, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was making a terrible mistake.

" you have to do it " I said

" No I can't" she said

I remember when I forced her to slept with the boss that promise to help me with a job.

Deep down me I have found an alternative solution to my problem and this was unknown to her.

Ever since I set my eyes on Emily, and we have been having secret affair and this was unknown to her. The secret love between Emily and I got deeper and she promised to make me the CEO of her father company if I would get married to her.

This offer have create a greed passage in my heart and I have been founding every means to divorce her so that I can get married to Emily so that I can be the CEO of the father company but I couldn't find any crime to accuses my wife of.

That is the major reason I always acting brood and depress at home using my lost of job as an excuse which was not so.

I continue this until I pushed her to the wall

By asking her to sleep with the man who promise to help me but he must have sex with her.

After the deal was done.

She told me that the young billionaire asked her to start work the next day but I have to follow her and she would Introduced me to him as the person who will take the job offer.

"What did you take me for ? I said

" What are you talking about ?" She asked

" You want me to work under the man who slept with my wife because he is a billionaire " I said

" I didn't understand " she said

" How did you want me to face him" I said

" I still don't get your point " she said

" Okay assuming I overlooked it can my mind ever overlooked it " I said

" You are twisting my brains " she said

" you cheated on me " I said

She stood up and her face changed

" you forced me into this and you and I knew I was not interested in this mess before" she said

" I test you and you failed woefully " I said

Chapter 3 A Savior's Gamble

Julian's POV

I watched her from across the room, her slender frame leaning against the railing of my balcony, staring into the city lights. She seemed so small, so fragile. Sophia didn't belong to this world of pain she had been thrust into. And yet, despite her brokenness, there was something about her-a quiet strength hidden beneath her sorrow.

When I first approached her at that café, it wasn't chance. I knew exactly who she was, and I knew the details of her messy divorce. The whispers of betrayal and heartbreak had reached my ears through business circles. I hadn't sought her out as a romantic conquest-at least not initially. She intrigued me because I saw potential in her, a potential she had clearly forgotten about herself.

Now, as she stood there wrapped in the crisp evening air, I wondered if she regretted saying yes to my proposal.

"Are you alright?" I asked, stepping closer.

She glanced over her shoulder, her eyes glassy but steady. "I'm fine," she said softly, though her voice betrayed her weariness.

Fine. A word people use when they're anything but.

"I can tell when someone's lying to me, Sophia," I said, standing beside her. My tone was calm but firm. I didn't believe in sugarcoating the truth. She deserved better than that.

Her lips curved into a bitter smile. "That obvious, huh?"

"It's written all over your face."

She sighed, her fingers curling around the railing. "I just... I don't know how to feel. Everything happened so fast. One minute, I was someone's wife. The next, I was disposable. And now... I'm here, engaged to you. I barely know who I am anymore."

I resisted the urge to touch her, to pull her into my arms. Sophia wasn't the kind of woman you rushed. She needed time to piece herself back together, and I would give her that.

"You're stronger than you think," I said, my voice low. "You survived something most people wouldn't. You're still standing, Sophia. That's no small feat."

She turned to me then, her eyes searching mine, as though she were trying to find some hidden motive. I didn't blame her. Trust was hard-earned, especially for someone who had been so deeply betrayed.

"Why are you doing this?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Doing what?"

"Helping me. Offering to marry me. You could have anyone you want, Julian. So why me?"

Her question wasn't unexpected, but it still gave me pause. Why was I doing this? I had asked myself the same thing countless times. I wasn't the kind of man who gave without expecting something in return. My entire life had been a series of calculated risks and well-thought-out moves.

But with Sophia, it was different.

"I see something in you," I said finally. "Something you don't see in yourself. And yes, I could have anyone I want, but none of them are you. You're different, Sophia You don't realize it yet, but you have the power to rebuild yourself into someone unstoppable. I want to be the one standing beside you when you do."

She blinked, her lips parting slightly in surprise. "You make it sound so... noble," she said, a hint of skepticism in her tone.

I smirked. "I'm not a noble man, Sophia. I've done things-things I'm not proud of. But with you... I want to be better. I want to protect you, to give you the life you deserve."

She studied me for a long moment, and I could see the wheels turning in her mind. She was weighing my words, trying to determine if I was being genuine or if I had an agenda of my own.

And I couldn't blame her.

"Alright," she said finally, her voice steady. "I'll trust you. But don't give me a reason to regret it."

I nodded, my respect for her growing. "You won't. I promise you that."

As she turned back to the city, I felt a strange sense of peace wash over me. For the first time in years, I wasn't thinking about business deals or power plays. I was thinking about her-about us-and what the future might hold.

But I knew better than to think it would be easy.

Sophia ex-husband was a fool, but he wasn't harmless. I had seen men like John before-cowards who didn't know what they had until it was gone, only to become dangerous when they realized they couldn't have it back.

If John thought he could come after Sophia, he was sorely mistaken.

I would do whatever it took to protect her, even if it meant going to war.

Because Sophia wasn't just a woman to me. She was my future. And I would destroy anyone who tried to take her away

I remember my past how I have been betrayed by love with some many ladies that I have dated back but with Sophia I think iam heading somewhere.

" Who is your first love " she asked

" Lillian" I said

" So why did she leave " she asked

" She complained about my tight business schedule" I said

" I hope that will not happen with me " she said

" Lillian doesn't love me " I said

" Why did you say that " she asked

" Lillian is materialistic and she was after my money " I said

I moved closer to her and hold her in the waist

" I sacrifice everything I have for her but she was never satisfied" I said

"Some ladies are never satisfied," she said with a hint of frustration, her words piercing through my thoughts. Although that wasn't the major reason why she left me, I knew that Sophia would soon discover the real secret behind my inability to hold onto any lady that I dated.

I had always kept this secret hidden from them during the courtship phase, showering them with attention and affection. But once we were engaged, I would reveal my true nature, and that's when the problems would start. I had a tendency to sacrifice everything for them during the romance phase, but once the commitment was sealed, they would discover the real me, and it would be too much for them to handle.

My track record was dismal - after marriage, they barely stayed for six months. But Lillian was an exception; she lasted a whole year before she finally gave up on me. I couldn't blame her, though. I knew I wasn't the easiest person to be with.

I wondered if Sophia would be any different. Would she be able to see past my flaws and love me for who I truly was? Or would she, too, discover the secret that had driven all the others away?
