Calantha got out of the car. She felt overwhelmed when she saw the luxurious mansion in front of her eyes.
"Miss Ellis, please follow me. Lady Selena is waiting for you." The butler saw Calantha still standing and looking at the mansion. He warned her.
"Ah, yes, yes..." Calantha was embarrassed. She chased the butler into the mansion.
To this day, Calantha still cannot believe that one day she will step into such a majestic mansion.
The butler led her to the garden in the mansion. From a distance, Calantha could see the beautiful lady Selena enjoying tea.
Clear blue sky, cool air, gentle sunshine.
When she was only an inch away from Lady Selena, the butler stopped Calantha, alone, approached Lady Selena, and informed her of Calantha's arrival.
"I would like to speak to Miss Ellis," Lady Selena said.
At this time, Calantha could approach Miss Selena. The servant in the mansion quickly arranged more seats for Calantha.
Calantha was very confused. She comes from a poor family, and she doesn't know how to enjoy tea.
"Don't worry, Miss Ellis. Just be at home. And don't mind those extravagances." Lady Selena smiled friendly at Calantha.
Lady Selena's words reassured her. Calantha slowly relaxed.
Lady Selena discreetly assessed Calantha, she was extremely interested. When the butler told her he had found someone like her to replace her at the wedding, and gave her a photo of Calantha, she was surprised. She couldn't believe there was a person who looked like her. When she met Calantha in person, Lady Selena was even more surprised.
Calantha has similarities with her not only in the face but also in body, especially her clear green soulful eyes. When Calantha wears a wedding dress and chiffon, it's hard for anyone to recognize the differences.
"Did Asher like my eyes the most?" Selena thought sarcastically.
"Miss Ellis, you must have heard about your mission, right? Become my substitute bride, holding off my fiancé long enough until I can run away with my lover." Selena said.
"The butler told me," Calantha answered. "And I'm completely ready for that job. Just pay the amount in the transaction."
"Of course, I won't break the deal. But this is a hard mission, Calantha. Don't you wonder about my fiancé?" Selena asked.
Calantha shook her head. She did not care who Selena's fiance is, what she cared about is the amount of money she received, which is enough to cure her younger brother, Gael, and let him go to the best school in the city.
"My fiancé is Asher Pittman."
What?
Asher Pittman...
Calantha didn't seem to believe what she'd heard.
Asher Pittman is the leader of the rich and powerful Pittman family. His influence was so strong that everyone believed he could change the political landscape if he wanted to.
Asher is the prince in every girl's fairy tale.
Calantha also holds a certain admiration and gratitude for him. Because last year, Asher donated some money to the school Gael was attending.
But for Selena, Asher is nothing more than a madman. Whenever she looked into his eyes, Selena could see his desire to possess her. Selena understood that as long as she became Asher's legal wife, she could never leave his mansion, Rosé, forever.
If Selena does not meet her destiny, she will resign herself to becoming Lady Pittman and will be with Asher for the rest of her life. But just a week ago, Selena met a bodyguard, John.
From the first time she met John, Selena understood she had no reason to be Lady Pittman anymore.
"Asher and I have known each other since childhood, and I believe I have a certain understanding of him. If he knew I ran away, he would never let you out of his mansion until I was found. And maybe your family will be in danger too." Selena said.
Calantha was worried about what Selena said. In the first place, she was only thinking about how to hold Asher, but didn't think about how to escape from Asher's mansion.
If she could not escape, then Gael...
"Miss Ellis, you have a younger brother named Gael, don't you?" Selena asked.
"Um, yes..."
"Apart from the money you get, I will protect your brother from Asher's wrath, send him to the best school, and hire someone to take care of him. What do you think about it, Miss Ellis?"
"How can I be sure my younger brother will be safe? Asher has great power, he can quickly get information about Gael." "Asher's power is worrisome, but I don't believe I can't protect an ordinary person from his pursuit. Take this bracelet, Miss Ellis. This bracelet is tagged, it will tell you where I am. If I break my promise, you just have to give this bracelet to Asher." Selena revealed her left wrist with a bracelet identical to the one Selena gave her. "I wanted to test the performance of this bracelet," Calantha said. "Layla, help her." Selena accommodated her request. "This bracelet works great. I can trust Lady Selena," Calantha thought. Selena watched the entire process as Calantha seriously examined the bracelet. "You never let yourself suffer," Selena commented. "Asher will have a hard time getting useful information from you. I will put my trust in you."
Calantha hesitated for 2 seconds.
"I agreed," Calantha answered firmly.
Calantha understood that the transaction with Lady Selena was her only option.
Selena motioned for the servant to bring two copies of the agreement.
"If you have agreed, then sign and fingerprint this agreement. And of course, I will also sign and fingerprint. This means that our transaction will be valid. If either party violates the agreement, we will meet in court."
Calantha looked at the agreement neatly placed on the table. She was a little nervous because this agreement would change her life forever.
"May I read this agreement carefully?" Calantha asked.
"Of course, that's what you should do," Selena said casually.
The content in the agreement is very clear, the rights and responsibilities of both parties are equal, Selena has no intention of taking advantage of her.
Calantha took her pen to sign the two agreements, and the butler quickly brought her a tray of fingerprint ink so that she could stamp her fingerprints on them. Selena also signed and fingerprinted without delay.
"Take a copy of the agreement, Miss Ellis." Selena reminded her. "The rest, Layla will work with you for me. May I go first, Miss Ellis?"
"Tell the driver to take Miss Ellis to where she wants to go," Selena told the butler.
He nodded respectfully and immediately fulfilled Selena's request.
"My assistant, Layla, will contact you to discuss the preparation of my plan. I hope that in a one-month period, Miss Ellis will be ready to help us prepare for the plan at any time." Selena told Calantha.
Calantha understood. Selena wanted her to quit her job at the café and spend all her time preparing for the wedding.
"I understand," Calantha replied.
After Calantha left, Selena immediately went to the reading room, where her lover, John, was.
Selena embraced John, giving him loving kisses.
"Is everything going well?" John asked.
"Above all great, Calantha is more convincing than I thought. Because she really needs the money," Selena replied, inhaling the scent of his body. "You know, my John, Calantha is very interesting and wise. Asher will hardly take advantage of her."
"I don't want to hear about Calantha, Selena, I want to hear about you," John pulled Selena into his lap and they gave each other a big kiss.
...
Selena's driver took Calantha to the hospital where Gael was being treated.
In a few days, he'll be moving to a better hospital. He would doubt for sure how she's going to pay the huge toll.
Calantha, of course, has a way of solving this problem.
Just as Calantha had predicted, Gael was constantly questioning her about how Calantha could afford the huge amount of hospital fees.
"Gael, I've been tired of working all day," Calantha said, and she showed tired.
"But...," Gael wanted to ask, but he stopped.
But he's still angry because Calantha won't tell you the truth. Gael decided he would not communicate with Calantha until he was relieved.
Calantha looked at Gael. He was lying on the bed and tucked in like a small snow-covered hill. She sighed.
Except for shirking whenever Gael talked about the hospital bills. Calantha had no choice but to be old enough to be aware of so many issues, anyway.
Calantha was reading and watching Gael for a while when she felt bored. Calantha turned on the television to explain, and suddenly she saw Asher Pittman's speech.
Asher is really handsome with amber eyes and slicked-back brown hair. Asher could attract the gaze of every girl at the first meeting.
But Calantha couldn't focus her attention on the beauty of Asher. She thought of what would happen, if Asher found out she wasn't Selena on her wedding day.
What would he do to her?
Especially since Calantha didn't even know about Asher's personality.
Calantha turned off the television, and tried not to think of Asher.
Asher didn't seem to want to leave her. He appeared in her dream that night.
In Calantha's dream, Asher stood in the distance and looked at her with an angry expression. Calantha tried to run away, but as she turned her head to look at Asher, the distance between them was still the same. It was as if Asher was a ghost and chased after her as she ran and didn't notice her back.
Calantha sat up, panting. It was dawn. The sunshine was so feeble that it wasn't enough to banish the darkness in the room.
"Damn, I'm so worried," Calantha said.
"What are you worried about?" Gael asked. "Did you have a nightmare?"
Calantha almost screamed in a jolt, but she calmed down shortly after.
"You're up early, Gael. Get some more sleep. We're going to help you transferred to another hospital today." Calantha reminded.
"Do you have to work a lot these days?" Gael asked.
"I will not work as hard as I used to. I'm going to take some extra work off." Calantha said.
"So, what are you going to do?"
Calantha stared at Gael for a few seconds, causing Gael to be jumpy.
"I'm married to a billionaire." Calantha winked at Gael and gave him an unimaginable answer.
"What, you..." Gael wanted to ask more, but Calantha went out of the sickroom.
As she walked out of Gael's sick room, Calantha felt freezing despite the rays of sunshine reminding her that the weather was nice and warm today.
At this moment, Calantha realized that she had been sweating when she was dreaming of Asher.
"Holy shit!"
They quickly transferred Gael to a state-of-the-art private hospital that afternoon.
Calantha checked Gael's medical contract. At this point, she really believed the transaction between her and Selena wasn't a joke.
"Ting..." The message buzzer rang, which was a message from Layla, Selena's assistant.
Calantha rushed into the WC to read the message.
Layla informed Calantha that tomorrow Calantha would have to go to Lady Selena's mansion to prepare for her plan.
"Fine, I have to learn how to leave Gael. Even though it's necessary, I still feel restless. Even though I'm so used to seeing Gael every day for 21 years." Calantha thought, she's a little upset.
Calantha washed her face with cold water to keep her awake and so that no one would find out she was crying.
People who don't have money have to learn to choose.
"Mr. Pittman, this is your periodic inspection."
When Calantha walked through the hallway, she overheard.
Pittman...?
Calantha curiously looked out over the hospital hallway stealthily.
She saw a back view of a rugged adult man whose hair was brown. He was wearing a black suit; he seemed to smoke. On his left is a man in a black suit who is bowing to him with a respectful attitude.
"Is that person Asher Pittman? Isn't he in Los Angeles, right?" Calantha thought.
Only this morning, Layla had informed her that Asher Pittman was on a business trip to Los Angeles.
"You get the car ready, I want to get back to Rosé right away." Asher Pittman said.
Calantha hurried away from there to argue in doubt.
His voice is indeed like Asher Pittman, the voice is low and serious...
If he was Asher Pittman, why did he go to the hospital?
Periodic inspection...? What was wrong with him?
Was the information Asher is working in Los Angeles real or fake?
Calantha had too many questions, but she tried not to think about them. Because finding the answers to those questions does not help her current life.
Curiosity killed the cat.
...
Asher returned to Rosé when it was late at night. The butler had waited for him beforehand. Asher gives the butler his periodic inspection results. The housekeeper, Mr. Hart, read it carefully.
"Your condition has improved, but you still need to maintain regular medication and treatment." The butler reminded him.
"I got it." Asher returned grudgingly.
Rosé was the private mansion of Asher, which was full of roses. Asher inhaled the scent of roses and gradually calmed down.
He missed Selena.
"A month from now, this mansion will welcome its true owner," Asher said. He was content with what he would get in the future.
At Layla's request, Calantha moved into Selena's mansion the following afternoon after she had said goodbye to Gael.
This was Calantha's second visit to Selena's mansion, however, for the first time, she did not enter the mansion and did not see its full lavishness.
This is a two-story mansion, designed in European royal style.
Layla arranged for Calantha to have a room at the end of the corridor of the second floor. It was a large room with large windows. From the window of the room, she could see the garden.
"This room will be the only one that gets the first sunshine of the day." Calantha thought.
After Calantha finished her dinner, no one told her what to do. Calantha tried not to think too much and focused on enjoying life in a new place.
The mansion's reading room attracted her.
Two days later, Calantha spent all her time reading, and she still didn't take any requests.
Lady Selena did not seem to be here very often. Because except for Calantha's room, the butler's room, the reading room, and the kitchen, the rest of the rooms were locked.
She had only seen the butler for the last two days. He prepared all the meals, and she even prepared the dinner herself yesterday, because the butler wanted to go out with his friends.
However, on the third day after Calantha moved into Selena's mansion, Selena also appeared with Layla.
"Sorry to keep you waiting so long, Miss Ellis," Selena said. "The day you moved into my mansion, I discovered an interesting tourist destination, so I enjoyed the sweet moments there with my lover, despite my heart condemned my own late behavior fiercely."
"Lady Selena really isn't as serious as I think she is when I think about the elites." Calantha thought.
"As compensation, I have prepared a small gift for you."
As soon as Selena spoke, Layla gave Calantha a small deluxe gift box. Calantha opened the gift box with curiosity.
A diamond engagement bracelet...
Calantha was stunned.
"Lady Selena, this gift is too expensive," Calantha said with a bewildered face.
"Calantha, never felt shy when you accept a gift, feel you receive this gift because you deserve it, especially for the gift from your lover." Selena said.
"What if the person who gives me a gift wants to take advantage of me?" Calantha thought.
She wanted to rebut Selena, but immediately Selena had urged her to prepare for Selena's plan.
"Thank you." Calantha said.
"You're welcome." Selena replied.
"The first thing you need to do is to imitate Lady Selena's gestures." Layla said that when she and Selena were in the practice room, which the mansion's valets unlocked and cleaned up 30 minutes ago.
"Since you only have to pretend to be Lady Selena at the wedding, you only have to imitate a few moves." Layla said.
...
Two weeks later
Layla was thrilled with Calantha's performance. She not only mimicked Selena's entire gestures at the wedding, but behaved like Selena. Plus, Calantha dyed her hair and eyebrow to look more like Selena.
Layla could be sure that no one could recognize the bride at the wedding was not Selena.
"Everything is very good. You can spend as much of your time as you want today." Layla said. "I'm taking Lady Selena shopping with her lover, so if there's something important, call me."
Calantha nodded, and after Layla had walked out of the practice room, Calantha sat down in the only large armchair in the room and took a breath.
For training, Calantha had to wear Selena's wedding dress. Selena took the wedding dress she was going to wear that wedding day for Calantha to practice. Selena really didn't care about the wedding and her fiancé.
The wedding dress was bulky. Calantha felt very uncomfortable when she wore it. But she had to admit that this wedding dress was beautiful.
That ballgown-style and strapless-neckline white wedding dress impressed her hard.
"This wedding dress must be very expensive." Calantha thought.
She knew that, even if she had spent her life working hard, she could not have had a beautiful wedding dress like the one she was wearing.
So tired, Calantha fell asleep on the couch.
The rattling doorbell woke her up.
"Is Lady Selena back?" Calantha wondered. She was still drowsy.
"No, Lady Selena has the key."
The doorbell suddenly stopped. Calantha curiously walked out into the hallway. She peeked downstairs stealthily.
A man walked into the living room, Selena's butler followed him.
"Where is Lady Selena? I want to see her." That man said.
Calantha realized she had heard this voice somewhere.
Asher Pittman...
This was Asher Pittman's voice, why he was here?
Calantha ran away in a hurry. She wanted to hide from Asher, but he found out there was someone on the second floor.
"Young Master Asher, please wait in the living room. Lady Selena will come to you shortly."
Asher did not care and still went to the second floor.
The butler called out.
"Young Master Asher.."
"You'd better make a cup of tea, dear butler. I'll be back with Selena in a few minutes. I hope we'll be able to enjoy the hot tea right away." Asher said in a threatening tone.
The butler was angry. Selena's servants did not like Asher. He was so possessive, he always considered Selena his and so was everything of Lady Selena.
Right here, in Lady Selena's mansion, he was not being polite. Lady Selena had only one way to remind them not to do anything against his will. Cause Asher and the Pittman family were the savior of the Anderson family at past, present and future.
Asher Pittman is a maniac, a possessor maniac.
But Lady Selena and they must indulge him for the Anderson family.
If Asher found out that Selena prepared a plan to flee with her lover at the wedding, then things would get worse.
The butler did not dare to express his anger in front of Asher. He bowed slowly, apart from his usual agile office.
"I understand, Young Master Asher. I assure you of the best hot tea at Lady Selena's mansion."
