Chapter one

Emery Tyson

A smile curved on my face While Watching my kids play with each other.

" Can you two stop making mummy run around the room?" I asked panting while they both giggled and stopped running too .

" We are sorry mummy " both Cecilia and Alexander replied simultaneously.

" Now come here and get dressed Am Taking you two to aunty Jessica's house, and I know you don't want to get late right?"I asked

" No mummy, I don't want to get late but maybe this dummy here will want to" Cecilia replied pointing at her twin brother who glared at her.

I chuckled at their behaviour shaking my head.

" Did you hear what she just called me mummy?" Cecilia asked glaring daggers at Alexander.

" Aren't you a dummy?" She asked folding her arms .

" If I am a dummy then you are a Big for nothing fool" Alexander replied sharply.

I sighed waving my hands in the air, this two won't be the death of me.

They are always fighting here and there and I am beginning to get tired of their bickering all the time .

" That's enough kids, now to your room. I will meet you in two " I said to them.

" Yes mummy " they chorused running into their room .

Sighing again, I turned to the Bathroom to take my bath , I on the shower as the water fall down from the shower to my Body.

My Life has been full of pains and I sorrow

I face palmed myself trying hard not to cry but I couldn't help it.

This past few Months I lost my job as a Waiter Life hasn't been easy for my kids and I.

We find it hard to eat, even if I see a little. I'd keep it for Cecilia and Alexander leaving me to starve .

I don't know how I would have survived it without Cindy by me.

She has really been my back bone and I owe Her a lot.

I have no money with me to buy at least snacks for them.

What am I going to do?

" We've dressed up ourselves mummy but we can't put on the shoes " Cecilia yelled.

I use the soap and water to wash my body, I just wish that everything will be fine soon.

I quickly wiped my Body and wrapped the towel around my body .

I don't want them to know I cried. It won't go down well.

" I am coming Cup cake " Yeah that's my nickname for my kids.

I entered into their room to see both struggling to put on their shoes.

" Here come, I will help you " I said to Cecilia who nodded.

Alexander stared at me with a frown on his face.

" Mummy?" He called with the same frown not leaving his face.

" Yes Cupcake ? I am almost done with your sister, just give me a minute " I replied.

" Did you cry? Did you hurt yourself? Did anyone insult you? "

Ah! I thought as much! What will I do with this boy? He's so sensitive !

" No cupcake , I didn't cry, I didn't hurt myself and no one insulted me " I replied ruffling his hair .

He fold his arms staring at me without saying anything, I am sure he doesn't believe me.

" You were thinking about how life has been hard for us to right?

You don't have to worry about us mummy, we will be fine and Aunty Cindy will always here for us .

Cecilia said.

I blinked away my tears engulfing them in a hug.

They are so understanding and mature than their age.

My bundles of joy, the kids I am struggling to live for.

" Thank you babies, mummy promise to get a job very soon and we will live comfortably " I said to them while they giggled.

Will I ever get a job again? I have struggled to train myself in school, I read business and I have been searching for a job since I lost one.

All the vacancies were filled up! My chances of getting a job is 0.00%.

" We believe in you mummy and I love you " Alexander said excitedly. They don't seems to be bothered about our current financial situation.

But I promise as their father and mother, I will struggle to give them the best I can .

" I love you too momma, more than this sister of mine " Alexander snorted and Cecilia smacked his head running out of the room with her school bag.

" I am so going to kill her mummy " Alexander groaned and I burst out laughing.

I wore my clothes quickly, maybe Cindy has something for us since she invited us over to her place.

Let's go kids, I closed the door behind us, walking outside the compond we were lucky to get a taxi to Cindy's house.

Few minutes later we arrived at Cindy's house ********.

I Was about to press the for door Bell when the Door bursts open.

" Hello everyone " our heads snapped to the door to see who it was.

" Aunty Cindy " the kids shrieked running to meet her.

I haven't introduced myself, I will do that as time goes on and I am sure you know brief informations about me.

" How are my little munchkins doing?" she asked squatting to their height.

" We are fine Aunty " they chorused.

I fold my arms watching as the kids faces brightened up.

Ouch! I am hurt, they're taking away my best friend's attention.

" Let's go inside i cooked Pasta and garlic sauce stew.

My face curved into a smile, a satisfactory smile.

Isn't Cindy a life saver? At least, they will have something to eat .

" Thank you auntie .

" You are welcome, we will be going to the dinning and after that we will go for shopping, you too will be going back to school.

Cindy winked at me while I rolled my eyes. We didn't plan on going anywhere or did we ?

" Okay aunty , we love you mummy " they said, both pecked me and rushed out

" I love you too kids " I yelled after them smiling widely.

It not being easy taking care of them since the last four years.

My mind went back to that night and I shook my head.

Will I ever find their father? Will he accept his kids? Even if I see him, I don't know how he looks like so how do I recognize him? Is he even alive?

" Earth to best friend " Cindy said waving his hand in my front.

" Good morning to you too Cindy " I glared at him walking away.

SHe held me by the hand scratching his head.

" I am sorry buttercup, maybe I should still leaving the greeting to later. Here take this, rush to my room, put on the dress and meet me down here "

SHe commanded shoving a bag in my hand.

I narrowed my eyes at him giving him a questioning look.

" We're are we going to Cindy ?" I asked.

" Do you have to ask cute pie ?" He groaned.

" Well if you must know, I saw a job interview and its starting by 9am. Just 25minutes left so go dress up "

My face lit up at I heard that! A job interview?

" Oh my God! What is the job about? Is it a company? What position? " I asked curiously.

" Calm down will you? It's Vivo group of company, the CEO is in need of a personal assistant and I am sure you will fit perfectly for it, are we cleared now? Hurry up we don't have all day "

" Thank you so much for this Cindy , I owe you a lot" I replied jugging into my room excitedly.

" I love you too buttercup " She said. Whatever!

" Stop being paranoid will you?" Cindy said as we stopped in front of the company.

I am hella nervous and the thoughts running in my mind added to it.

" I am scared, what if I don't get the job?" I asked.

" I have told you about this your pessimistic attitude but you wouldn't listen, I believe you will get the job trust me " She assured.

" Thank you Cindy "

" Thank me later, I applied for the job for you earlier with the copy of your credentials with me, you might be among the first to be interviewed "

My heart jumped out of my chest. First to be interviewed?

" Don't panic, I got you. Call me when you are done, good luck "

He said as I came down from his car. I waved him good bye and entered into the big building.

Chapter two.

Emery Tyson.

I sat down among six other applicants who are anxiously waiting to be called in.

A beautifully dressed lady came into the waiting area after few minutes to address us.

"You are welcome to J. K. T Int'l, ladies and gentlemen. Emery Tyson?"

"Yes, ma'am?" I stood immediately with a faux smile.

I was told that smiles brightens hearts and minds.

I hope mine works on this lady so I would get the opportunity to be an employee here.

"This way, please" she led me into a massive office.

An administrator in charge of the interview sat around a big table and faced me when I came in.

"Good luck, Emery," The lady returned my smile and left.

Seems my smile worked on her, I will try it on this lady too but the big problem is that she doesn't want to look up at me.

"Good morning, ma'am" I greeted as I settled down on a chair meant for guests and waited patiently for her to speak.

"Emery Tyson, I guess?" She went straight to the point.

"Yes, ma'am" I replied taking quick breaths.

She asked series of questions, I was able to answer some carefully not to implicate myself.

My stomach churned, she didn't even reply my greeting. How does one hope to get a job from such a person?

"After reviewing your CV and cross checking your provided credentials, I don't need more information about you so you can be worthy of the job"

She opened a file in front of her and didn't look up all the while as she talked to me.

"Sorry, I don't think I understand..." My voice trailed off uneasily.

"You don't have much experience but I can tell you will do a good job, congratulations, Emery" She smiled at me and extended a hand.

I hesitated to shook her hand because I don't know if that's also a part of the interview or she is being serious.

"I said you have got a job, Emery. Congratulations to you" she smiled more widely and I took her hand quickly.

"Thank you! God bless you, I am really grateful for your kindness!" I almost went down on my knees when she told me not to.

"You don't have to thank me, just count yourself lucky because the CEO reviewed your details himself and signed you in, welcome" she said.

"The CEO? Well, thanks still, you are just kind and I appreciate" I said grateful for her satisfactory words.

I guess my first impression of her was wrong, a book shouldn't really be judged by it's cover, she's doing a great job.

Maybe am being enthusiastic and praising her way too much because I got the job, what if I hadn't?

All credit goes to Cindy, what could I have done without her, she's a friend in indeed and I owe her a lot.

"You are welcome. Submit a resume and get ready to start work tomorrow and now if you are okay with it" she emphasised.

"Okay, ma'am. I will start tomorrow, I need to get some stuffs ready and I promise not to disappoint you" I said.

"Okay. By the way, it's Paula Montana" she introduced herself.

Wow! She's getting formal with me already? I can't wait to tell Cindy! This looks more like an acceptance and not just any interview at all.

Who could the wonderful CEO be? I can't wait to see him and thank him for choosing me as his assistant.

"Okay, then" I left the company in vibrant spirit and felt on top of the world for the first time since I had my cupcakes.

"Mummy! See, it's a rollercoaster!!" Alexander said excited to be around other kids in the amusement park.

"I see it, Cupcake! Go play with your sister and be careful not to get hurt" I sent him off to have some privacy with my best friend.

"So, tell me about the interview, friend" She wanted to know what went on because of my excitement.

"I thought you didn't want to know. Cindy, haven't you done enough? This is not shopping and you have work to take care of too" I said worriedly.

She promised to take them out to shop for things they will need in school and this is where she ended up bringing them.

"Come off it, Emery and gist me about the interview, those kids deserve the best no matter what," she shrugged.

"Fine! Thanks to you, Emery Tyson has got a...job!" I announced happily.

"I knew it! Aren't you my lucky friend?" Cindy smiled hugging me.

"Cindy, this is all thanks to you, I really don't know what or how to pay you back for your endless love and kindness to me"

"Hey, don't start, what are friends for? If I was the one facing troubles, I trust you will do more for me"

"But it's too much already! Thank you, Cindy" I said appreciatively.

"Don't mention, I'm happy for you, I mean, you are worth it, aren't you?" She smiled fondly.

"My cupcakes are worth good life, I want the best for them"

"Best for them is best for you, so let's go grab lunch and check out stuffs in the shopping mall"

"It's too early for lunch and besides, I don't have money to pay for..."

"Shush! We have lunch now and shopping later, bill is on me, honey pie" She dragged me with her.

"Good gracious! I hope you are not planning to pay their fees because I won't allow that?!" I breathed.

"Of course, yes, I shall..."

"No way! I will pay their tuition fees when I get my first salary in a month's time" I cut her off.

"Let's argue it out later, I will pretend I didn't hear that," she laughed lightly.

"It isn't funny at all" I complained.

"Alex and Cecilia, over here!" She called my kids and ignored my assertion.

"Oh, Mummy! This is so much fun!!" Cecilia jogged happily towards us.

"I see you glowing, cupcakes!" I scooped her up and Cindy took Alexander.

Episode Three

He walked to the tall transparent windows of the huge skyscraper. The sun rays shone brightly on his face and the female staffs in the room couldn't help but gasp.

"He is so handsome... Why is he not my boyfriend?... I would do anything just to have a night in bed with him... If he would just look at me lovingly once, I'll die happily," they chattered endlessly.

The male staffs looked at their lovestruck colleagues and sighed in regret. "Boss has captured the hearts of all the females in the company," they complained regretfully.

Though their voices are low as they dare not let him hear what they are saying, he still felt annoyed at how noisy they are. He finally turned around with a slightly angry look.

One of the female staffs even forgot to breathe as she stared at him. "Why is he so handsome?" He frowned, seeing the dreamy look on her face. One of her friends hurriedly hit her to get her out of her reverie.

Cause if the boss gets angry, he may sack her and even make sure she never gets a job anywhere else. "Why are you all here?," he asked in an icy tone.

Everyone quickly brought out the files they came to submit. He checked the files hurriedly, rejecting the ones that aren't satisfying and accepting few. Finally the lady who interviewed Emery earlier. What's her name? Mhmm.... Yes, Paula. She walked forward with a file.

"Sir we gave her the job. Here is the file you requested for," she said giving him a file. She is still wondering why boss actually picked this lady out of all the applicants. Though she acted a little bit cold when interviewing Emery, she was observing her.

She isn't as beautiful as boss former assistants. She looked ordinary. Though she is suitable for the job, there are still others better than her. So why did boss pick her?

But she doesn't dare ask him cause he's the boss.

Who dares question the boss on his decisions? "You can leave," he dismissed them with his usual low icy tone. As soon as they all left, he sat down and opened the file.

He looked at the words boldly written on the file, EMERY TYSON. He stared at the picture attached on it. Why does she look familiar? The picture is already fading so he can't see it well but the lady in the passport looks familiar.

He tapped his finger on his hair and thought," Have we met before?"

Emery Tyson.

I walked into Cindy's kitchen feeling so exhausted. Someone should remind me that I should not go shopping with Cindy and the kids again. She would have emptied the whole children section if it was possible.

After taking the children to the pack, she bought lots of snacks even though I protested. But no one ever listens to my protests. I smiled bringing out a frozen chicken out of the fridge.

The least I could is to prepare dinner tonight. I owe Cindy alot. Once I start earning enough money from my new job, I'll pay back every single penny. I was just about to add spices to the chicken soup when my two little troublesome cupcakes ran in.

"Mom!!! Alex doesn't want to give me my new sneakers," Cecilia cried rushing into the kitchen. Alex followed hugging a shoe box tightly.

"Mom don't mind this shorty. Aunt Cindy bought these for me and she's claiming it hers," Alex said making a mocking face at her. You know the one you do when you bring out your tongue and wiggle it at someone.

"We are the same height so you are also shorty!!," Cecilia shouted wiggling her tongue at Alex also. I stopped stirring the soup and turned to them. If I don't stop them now, I'm sure few minutes later they will almost bring the kitchen down with their screams.

I bent down to their heights and secretly smiled. Short calling someone short. The both of them are short but I dare not tell them. Looking at them glaring at each other, I said," Cupcakes what did I always tell you two?"

" That we shouldn't fight with each other," they replied in unison. "Then why are you fighting with each other now?," I asked even though I already know what they would say. Just as I expected, they pointed at each other and said,"He started it first!" "She started it first!"

Cecilia pouted seeing they both said the same thing again like always. She rushed into my embrace and did that cute puppy face expression. " Mom the shoe is mine. Aunt Cindy gave it to me," she said slowly like a baby.

Alex felt annoyed and brought out the shoe to show me the designs on it,"Mom see this! These are designs of a dragon, gun, ranger, cars and many more. Mom does this shoe look like one a girl can wear?"

I looked at it and noticed he's right. This is totally a boy's sneakers. I looked at Cecilia,"Cupcake he's right. This shoe is not suitable for a princess like you." Alex made that mean face at her again.

I hit his head gently and he whined rubbing his soft hair curls. "Don't be mean," I told him and turned to look at Cecilia. "Mom I like the shoe," Cecilia said and I sighed.

"Alright cupcake. I'll get you sneakers similar to this but with different designs, okay?," I asked her and she nodded happily. Immediately, she stood up and wiggled her tongue at Alex before shaking her small bottom at him. Then she ran away with Alex chasing her closely.

I shook my head at their childish antics before I quickly checked the soup to make it's not burnt. Then I brought out my phone and searched for that similar sneakers online. As soon as I found the one designed for girls, I gasped at the price.

"I'm sorry cupcake. You'll have to wait a little longer for the sneakers," I soliloquized after making the calculations of the bills I need to pay. I'll just get her the shoes later. She still has new ones she can manage. I then went on preparing dinner.

The faint sounds of the alarm abruptly woke me. I hurriedly stood from the bed. God I have get the children ready and also prepare for work. I quickly walked out of my room after checking the time. It's almost late in the morning.

I was very surprised to meet the children already dressed and even eating breakfast. That's when I remembered that Cindy insisted we stay over at her house last night. Gosh! Cindy is such a sweetheart. They looked up and saw me.

"Good morning mommy," they chorused. Cindy also looked up and said,"Sleepy-head hurry up. You can't be late on your first day at work." I was about to answer her sarcastically when she said," Don't worry. I'll take the kids to school."

I swallowed my reply and blew a kiss at her before rushing back to the room to get dressed.

As the beautiful Porsche followed by a trail of similar luxurious cars drove into the school, everyone stopped to watch. A chubby but cute looking boy came out of the Porsche. Some people turned away disappointed that it's only a rich kid showing off his parents wealth.

But as soon as the door opened again and the other occupant came out. They turned back to look at the handsome man feeling stunned. Some of the parents started shrieking in surprise at the sight of him. Their children looked at them feeling disappointed with the way their mothers are behaving like fangirls.

The chubby boy noticed what was going and turned to look at the man. "Uncle don't bring me to school again. I'm supposed to be the star here not you. You've stolen the attention of all the ladies from me," he retorted shooting out his potbelly.

The man frowned while looking down at the funny stance of his nephew. Little brat. At his age, he's already thinking about ladies.
